Hello there

Suddenly my prophets speaker at the back stopped working ! For no reason.. I found out that if i pressed a little at it it worked again but only while i pressed at it.. I took my prophet apart, because i thought it was a jamed connection, but it wasn't and now the speaker dosn't work at all..

So i would like if anyone could tell me where i can get spareparts for the prophet ? I come from denmark, so if its possible, i need them to ship internationally

Thanks !

I had the exact same problem. It seems HTC was saving money on the glue for that batch in particular. I 'fixed' my speaker several monthes ago, and it's still working fine.

What I did was put a small piece of twist-tie, (or wire would work too I guess) in the shape of a half circle between the speaker and housing. This keeps the pressure on it, like you mentioned when you push it. When this stops working I may consider buying a new speaker, but it works just fine!

This seems to be a frequent problem, my speaker also just died yesterday, again for no reason. My solution was similar to Stuclint's, I put a bit of folded paper to keep the pressure on it. Sound quality is awful though, so I ordered a new one for £6 from ebay, but at least now I can hear it ringing :)

... but mine is from IPMART. Costs around $4.00 US, but I only bought it to fill up my shipping weight. The prices are great, but shipping (to germany at least) costs a fortune! I also ordered a new housing ($19.95), but got the wrong one. It was a 818 housing instead of the 818pro I ordered. I'm still trying to get the right one, and was also waiting until then to use the new speaker. But like I say, the solution I'm using now works fine. No noticable distortion. My housing is toast though, try not to drop it on the SD card side.... I did and now have a huge opening all down the Camera, Volume, CommManager side. :(

It's quite easy to replace. You don't need to solder anything. There is a little white clip that fits into a connection on the mainboard. You can change a speaker in about 10 minutes.

If you live in Rome, there is a shop that sells the speakers and all spareparts along the road leading from stazione tusculano towards via appia.

It will just pull out (there is no clip). You still need to be careful, but it will come out.

Someone had already replaced prophet speaker with a sony-ericcsson one. I, personally think that HTC devices are perfect except 2 things. the camera (if you try to compare it with any sony ericcsson device, and the sound quality (of both the rear and the front speaker.
however, the pipe phones that ship with I-mate JAMin have an excellent quality that is very far better than ANY sony-ericcsson's. their responce to high frequencies (10000 to 20000 Hz) which is called "treble" is very very far better, sony ericcsson's in-ear pipe-phones (which usually ship with W series) have a better responce within the range (50 to 400 Hz) "Bass" BUT I-mate's pipe-phones are ALSO better in responding to frequencies lower than 50 Hz. which causes you to hear a richer bass that is not as strong as sony-ericcsson's, but closer to professional quality, and delivers frequencies that can't be delivered with any sony-ericcsson pipe-phones.
well, let's go back to the internal speakers.
I think the sound quality in HTC internal speakers SUCKS.
I've seen some registry keys that can modify the values of frequencies given to these speakers but I wish I could understand their legend so I can modify them and provide you all with a really better sound quality with the same (original) speaker. (Hey! I really think I can do that!)
however, a friend of mine just replaced the original HTC rear speaker with a Sony-Ericcsson one!!
although it's Oval, while the HTC is circular, but he just replaced it!
in fact, removing the black rubber around the speaker isn't a good idea, because it helps isolating the area in front of the speaker from the area behind it, which is the most important aspect of producing sound!
you can try it. just play anything on a speaker while it's put alone without anything around it, and then try the same speaker after putting it in a circular hole in the middle of a piece of cardboard that fits it as perfectly as possible. make the piece as large as possible. and tell me what you get? in the first case, you'll get no bass at all you'll just get the treble and the mid-range, but in the second you'll get faaaaaaaar more bass!!
so now, my first project will be to make a replacement to the rubber thing (maybe I'll do it with silicone), in a way that fits a sony-ericcsson speaker.
also, please if anyone got info about the mentioned registry values, it would be very appreciated ;)
wish me luck :D

Hi OSX, I couldn’t agree more with your opinions about the HTC speakers. Maybe I´ll try do the registry mods, if somebody helps us with the values and the proper explanation to do it on the registry.
Don’t forget to tell how it went ok?
Best regards

Hi

My Jamin have a sony-ericcsson K700 back speaker, The original speaker is suddenly died ... so I opened my old K700 taking out its back speaker and push it in the back of my Jamin..
If you want to do that you have to do a little knife work since K700's speaker is a little bigger than Jamin's speaker and and you have to override the 4 connectors of K700 speaker to 2 ,since K700 have stereo sound system its speaker have 4 connectors unlike Jamin speaker which have 2...
Finally, don`t expect to get the mighty stereo sound of the K700....
