I have a rom kitchen that can cook roms for startek. I am going to try to make a rom today with all the info I have found so far. My 3125 is scrap to me so if I brick it I don't care. Wish me luck I'll keep you all posted.

Just a little update, super CID unlocked the phone and have been able to manipulate some files. Attempted flashing an os.bin from typhoon but phone would no longer boot. Retrying, thought bricked device but no. I'll update as I make progress.

Sledwrecker, thanks for taking the initiative on this. I also have a dormant QTEK 8500 when you get a little further along and need another tester. Let me know, I'm up for it.

Well seems as though I have bricked this turd.... I am locked in bootloader I can't recover from SD fallowing all the steps I have found around here.
Trying to D/L the qtek rom now maybe that will work.
I can't get the phone to connect to pc in bootloader mode. Phone enters bootloader, I plug in USB and it shows "USB" on the bottom left but I can't see the phone through MTTY or throught the RUU setup.
I'll update if I figure this out.

Prepare your SD card with the OEM ROM per this method and this should (hopefully) unbrick your device. Please report back so I can also know if it works in this situation. Thanks!
From the WIKI: StarTrek SD Card flashing
It is necessary to format your microsd card to FAT32 filesystem!
# Empty (erase the contents) of your microSD card from the Windows Mobile file explorer or format it in fat32 from your computer using a card reader (in some cases format doesn't work).
# Extract the .NBH file from your prefered ROM upgrade: In windows use winrar (right click) to extract the contents of the exe file. In Linux / ~MacOS use [cabextract | http://www.kyz.uklinux.net/cabextract.php].
# Rename the .NBH file to *STARIMG.nbh* and copy it to the root folder of your microSD card.
# With microSD card inserted on the phone, start the bootloader (The bootloader is invoked by pressing down the Record button and Camera button at the same time).
# You should see the screen with SD Card searching, then confirm flashing on screen by pressing Softkey.
# Flashing might hang after some time but this is normal. Just wait. Complete flash takes about 25 minutes, so check your battery or connect to charger before the flashing process starts.
~SuperCID devices are able to flash any official NBH image using this method.

I've tried this several times with the english nk.nbh from HTC's american rom and the CWS rom as well.
1. Extract RUU_STAR100_4.1.502.5_02.79.30_CWS_SHIP.exe
2. rename .nbh file to STARIMG.nbh
3. format "my" 1 gig micro SD card FAT32
4. copy STARIMG.nbh to MicroSD card
5. Insert MicroSD card into STarTrek
6. Power on in bootloader mode holding camera and voice record then pressing power.
7. White screen with blue text "searching for SD card"
8. Tri-Color Boot loader....
Never finds / Sees the SD card
PC sees MicroSD card just fine.
Also, as mentioned above I can't get the phone to connect via USB and bootloader either.
Here is what I KNOW I did "wrong" possibly....
1. I was in MTTY trying to upload a WM6 os.bin to the startack.
2. Ran set 32
3. It found device "ok"
4. lnbs os.bin
5. it did a format and copy
6. restarted phone
7. Nothing.......
8. Hard reset ........
9. Nothing
10. camera, voice record, power = bootloader... Works..
This is where I am at. Like I said I jsut want to get a WM6 rom working if the phone is done the oh well. I am here to help.

If you want to connect in bootloader and you see the usb connection try the following:
In Activesync, unckeck the Alloy USB connections box.
Remove the device entry from control pannel under mobile devices
plug in the device to USB
Run the enableRAPI program to try to re-establish communications
Here is also a rapidshare link to the latest OFFICIAL WWE ROM for WM5 QTEK 8500. Try it as RUU after the above, if that does not work, extract the contents and try the SD flash again. My gut says if you can get to bootloader, you haven't bricked it yet.

You said
*Remove the device entry from control pannel under mobile devices
Can you be specific, I can't figure that part out? asside from removing the device entry I've done everything else.
When I try to run the enablerapi it just sits at a blank cmd prompt?
Still no luck get the 260 error when running the RUU

Well I went through device manager and can't find any reference to mobile device or startrek. still can't get the phone to connect.
SD card flashing still did not work even using the .nbh from the rapidshare link above.
When the phone first goes into bootloader it says searching for SD for about 1 second then goes to tri color screen. it's as if it doesn't see the SD card at all.
When in bootloader if I plug in the usb cable I get the little USB down in the bottom but I can't get the enable rapi to work. It just hangs or sits at a cmd propmpt

Sounds like we need to get the SD flashing to recognize your card,
Let me walk through the process with my working QTEK and the same ROM I posted to Rapidshare, then we can compare notes again.
EDIT: By the way, My IPL/SPL show 3.06.0000 and the USB connection does link when attached to my PC (Vista).

Well, I found only a few contentious points with the SD flashing guide:
1) VERY CLEARLY states you must format for FAT32
I had to buy a new microSD for this test. It came standard in FAT16 not FAT32. Took quite some time to format it.
2) Extracted the .nbh file using WinRAR version 3.7
3) Rename the file STARIMG.nbh in CAPS as shown. This was the only file on the card and was in the root directory
4) when installing the microSD, it was necessary to put my SIM card in to keep the SD located properly.
The rest went as expected without fault.

Dude you are my personal hero.
I got it unbricked or fixed using your method.
Here is what I did EXACTLY so maybe this will help someone else.
1. Take 1 gig Kingston MicroSD card
2. Put it in SD sleave and Plug into Computers SD card reader
3. Open Disk Management by right click on my computer then "manage"
4. Selected Removable Disk
5. Format as FAT32, Cluster size = 512 and NO QUICK FORMAT and NO Volume Name
6. Extract ship.......*.nbh from official rom RUU installer.
7. Rename Ship......*.nbh to STARIMG.nbh
8. Copy to SD card
9. Place MicroSD card in phone
10. Insert SIM
11. Insert Battery Pack
12. Holding camera and voice buttons press and release power on
13. Phone searched for SD card
14. Success Phone found SD card press middle side button to start download from SD.
15. Took less than 10 minutes to complete recovery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw some other threads around with people stuck like I was earlier. Try this it worked for me!
Back to the cooking I'm either going to brick this phone or get WM6 working!!!
THANKS AGAIN!

Haven't given up yet.. quickk update.
I've been able to succesfuly extract the WM5 ROM completely.
I've been unable yet to extract a complete nk.nbf from Tornado.
After close comparison looks like tornado is closest to Startrek. It has the same OMAP 850 Proc and architecture was going to port typhoon since it's the 730 and the 850 is basicly the same but faster.
I have got an os.bin tornado WM6, not sure what to do at this point.
----
From what I found if I use the XIP from the WM5 rom then the main drivers, keypad, etc.. should work. in theory..
Can I mesh the os.bin into an .nb file ?
I was consifering pdocwrite.exe to upload it but I need to know how to caluclate the header size. Unsure here.
Can I take the os.bin, convert it to .nb and then mesh it in with a WM5 nk.nbh?
Looking for some suggestions, if there is anything OBVIOUS that I am missing please poitn it out.

Try to contact with Erofich, sp3dev or pof, cause these gays working on this project and use the pdocwrite. So they can tell you how to caluclate the header size.

Here's a windows.nb we can try if you wish from the Typhoon WM6 ROM in my signature. I know you said the Tornado has similar hardware, but I think the Typhoon is also a close match. This comes from the Typhoon os.bin but I am not 100% certain of the process to make it.
(I do have WM6 working excellently on my Typhoon from this file)
I believe if you replace the WM5 windows.nb with this one from WM6 then recook it, it just may work.

Now that your phone is out of 'Brick World' perhpaps running the EnableRAPI pogram will engage your phone rather than just sitting there at the command prompt. (since it now has a working OS).

I WAS able to recover back to WM5 from SD no problem.

After it succeeds you are supposed to hard reset. I went through start->accessories->clear storage.
So after succesfuly uploading the typhoon os.nb device no longer boots except to bootloader.
I'm going to try uploading a startrek os.nb that I extracted earlier in the week and see if atleast this succeeds after the device is rebooted. I'll keep updates coming!

I also tried the customized full ROM method by warpping everything into a single nbh file, but the device refused to load the ROM because it's not properly signed. I guess there have to be a complete different solution for StarTrek.

I also tried the nbh approach, hoping that the SD Flash would take it , but it did not. I'm thinking that the pdocwrite approach has the best chance at present, but that has many challenges to solve as well. We'll keep trying, as sledwrecker has said, until we brick our devices!

Yes I wrapped the WM5 package back up with the WM6 os.nb inside.
It gets all the way to the copy screen on the bootloader hits about 2% then kicks back an error to the desktop that the image is corrupt.
I've been reading a lot in other device forums that use nk.nbh files and have also been in contact with some pretty good developers.

Unfortunately i am not an expert on that kind of problems.
From what i know you'll be needing a good working XIP for the Startrek. That you could attain by extracting the full XIP of your phone with something like bepe's xipport. Then you could use a XIP from the device you say it's very similar and extract it's XIP then you have to copy some modules from the wm6 XIP to yours and then relocate them. After all this is complete you can start working on the OS side of the problem.
You take the wm6 OS and extract it, then add your drivers, OEM, dpi files to this wm6 and then relocate the modules and only then you can compile it back and pray that it works. It's a very difficult task and it may be impossible too. It depends on your luck.
For porting WM6 to startrek you can ask cmonex and maybe whiterat. Also try to search for the developers of the Football rom for the Dell Axim X51v (which also didn't had WM6) and ask them how they did it.
Good luck ! you'll need it.

USE AT ONE'S OWN RISK!!!
At the given moment is found only one method to pierce unofficial rum in our StarTrek. This is the use of the utility pdocwrite forming part of itsutils.
ATTENTION! Your startrek it must be COMPLETELY [razlochen] and it must be made SuperCID!
itsutils it is possible to [skachat] here.
You can pierce only Windows- the part of rum! (OS.nb)
YOU BE MAXIMAL THEY ARE ATTENTIVE with the introduction of command!
QUOTE
pdocwrite of 06_OS.nb of 0x0 of 0x2600000
where 06_OS.nb - part of rum, in which is contained itself Windows
2600000 - the size of the file Of oS.nb are byte-by-byte in the hexadecimal form (HEX)
It is necessary to make after completion [khard] [rezet] (if they were moved away/they were added new files in rum).
P.S. Appreciation goes to sp3dev of aka Of alex [OF DFR] after it the fact that prompted to me command for pdocwrite victory.gif
Accessible to the data moments of the piercing:
Original last piercing Of qtek 3.6.261.0, but from coredll of version 5.2
Original last piercing Of cingular 4.1.502.5, but from coredll of version 5.2
(Step-by-step instruction)
1) we make SuperCID ([manual] look - there is it on the forum)
2) we stitch through piercing necessary to us (if we be going to change rum from [singulyara], then => we stitch through [singulyarovskuyu])
3) we make complete [anlok] of list, and it is reloaded:
CODE
CODE
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Of security \ Of policies \ Of policies \ 00001001 = 2
-> to change value for 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Of security \ Of policies \ Of policies \ 00001005 = 16
-> to change value for 40
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Of security \ Of policies \ Of policies \ 00001017 = 128
-> to change value for 144
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Of security \ Of policies \ Of policies
-> to add new key “0000101a”: Dword = 1 "
-> to add new key “0000101b”: Dword = 1 "
4) we start through the command line on [kompe] for the beginning pdocwrite without the arguments:
CODE
CODE
C:\itsutils > pdocwrite
If all ok, then all possible commands for this program will appear
5) we copy windows.nb in the folder [s] itsutils and in the command line we write:
CODE
CODE
C:\itsutils > pdocwrite of windows.nb of 0x0 [of [razmer]_[fayla]_[v]_HEX]
where [[razmer]_[fayla]_[v]_HEX]
- for [kutekovskoy] Russian piercing - 0x2500000
- for [singulyarovskoy] American - 0x2600000
i.e., will as a result must come out something like:
CODE
CODE
C:\itsutils > pdocwrite of windows.nb of 0x0 of 0x2500000
5.!) ATTENTION! If the size of the received nb- file is differed from two those enumerated, then on no account sew, since this file of [zaporot]! You will kill your [devays]! Better recheck again correctly you was gathered rum.
6) we await during about five minutes thus far [vinda] it will be flooded into [devays]. When process ends, then two versions are possible: cursor will move and it will be finished for the introduction of new command, or command line simply will be shut.
7) we make it [khard]-[rezet] (we go launching> standard> to clean depository)

This has been used to flash the OS part of WM5 to the StarTrek, however writing the OS.BIN for WM6 is not yet possible using pdocwrite.

I'll be looking into it. I've ported WM6 across platforms, from Hermes to Wizard, so it should be possible to do the same here.
The biggest hurdle is being able to take a raw ROM dump and converting it to individual dump files, separating it into packages, and extracting the XIP. I'll have to research that unless anyone already has this knowledge and would share, that would really save me some time.

As much as I normally like to say - give them time they'll announce stuff when it comes - I wanna know too - it's been too much time since any works been in this forum. In fact, last night, I was looking through all these threads myself starting to pull stuff together for me to start playing around (though I have very little exp. building roms so I had no expectation of getting anywhere.
From what I pulled together last night was:
We have the ability to flash the OS portion of a rom to the phone but not a full rom.
Using this method, there have been a few modified WM5 roms created (though I don't think they've been readily posted in this forum)
People have made a couple attempts to port WM6 by trying to fuse a XIP from a WM6 rom to a WM5 OS but have never successfully gotten past the boot screen.
The developers here had started hacking a SPL which would allow a full rom flash but had not success as of the last post where they might have something but it was expected to have about a 20% chance of failing and that thread then basically died there.
I've tried Google/Bablefish translating several russian sites that were working on such things but from what I could make out (and these translations were far from good) I got the impression that the people there (who were mostly the same people working here I think) basically gave up too :(
I don't know if this post helps but this is just a gathering of the imformation that I've pulled together - hopefully it can help somebody who is smarter then me so they don't have to track down the info themselves again! Most of this information is with in this thread and this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311776 started by Erofich. While there is a bit more info in: http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=43194 - it is all in russian so I don't know how much help it will be. Neither Google or Bablefish did a great job translating.
Maybe if we all put in the info we have it will help cracking this nut?

Yeah, it looks like the development on WM6ing our devices stopped cold a couple of months ago either here or in Russia. From what I could tell is everyone is testing out the pdocwrite meathod of flashing apparently already modded nb files of the 'Official' WM5 flavour... The RUU meathod seems to be not functional.
Don't know about the rest of y'all, I am not a gambling man, but if there is a 80% chance of having a "stable" WM6 on my Cap'n Kirk - I would probably go for it...
Guess we'll have to just keep checking this and the other posts for updates (when applicable).
Peace.

Got it to work, flash another rom :)
I followed the steps in another thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=292068&page=2
1. Application unlock your phone using regeditstg and do the following :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 1001 = 2 -->Change the value data from 2 to 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 1005 = 16 --> Change the value data from 16 to 40
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies\0000 1017 = 128 --> Change the value data from 128 to 144
Reboot the phone
2. Run SDA_ApplicationUnlock tool. Reboot the phone after it finishes.
I found it here: http://www.elims.org/downloads/HTC-Tmobile/SDA_ApplicationUnlock/
3. Download itsutil.zip from http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/tools.html , version from 2005-6-28. There is even newer version, but with that version you can not use pdocread without arguments.
4. Connect the phone with activesync
5. Run Command Prompt, go to subfolder named "build" in itsutils folder, and run pdocread without arguments
6. Note the value of "uniqueid". It will be something like : "00 00 00 00 12 03 02 14 3b 07 1b b2 04 05 07 54"
I used a later version and used pdocread -l the uniqueid will be displayed somewhere :)
7. run pdocread again with these arguments : "pdocread -n 1 0x000000 0x10000 -b 0x4000 original-bdk1.nb". This will make original-bdk1.nb file in build folder (where the pdocread is located).
8. Upload this file and value of uniqueid to http://www.spv-developers.com/strtrkCID/. It will open a new page after few seconds. Go to bottom of the page and click the link "Download patched BDK1"
9. Download the file (it will be named like "supercidxxxxxxx.bin) to "build" folder
10. Run the pdocwrite from command prompt with these arguments : "pdocwrite -n 1 supercidxxxxxxx.bin 0x000000 0x10000 -b 0x4000". Replace supercidxxxxxxx.bin with the original name of downloaded file from step 9.
11. Wait 15-20 seconds and that is it. Reboot the phone and install the ROM you like

Hi guys, if I could be of any help... just say so, I am into programming and all. I'm not up to date with phone programming though. But, if I could help in anyway, just say so.
On a side note, I am really mad that Cingular/ATT just ditched our phone and didn't even try to upgrade it. Microsoft opened it up for free for goodness sake! And, I am mad with Microsoft, but thats a whole other story. After 10 years of Beta testing for Microsoft, and they could not include me in the beta test of Longhorn/Vista before they released it to the open public. Now, I'm beta testing its Network Operating system.

If I can find access to a machine still running WinXP I will certainly give it a go but all my machines are currently running Vista :S
EDIT:
I just called a co-worker and he said he could bring an xp laptop to work but we don't work the same day again until next tuesday. Hopefully, somebody else has already tested this by then (I'd love to see the progress! Where are those dozen or so people who said they would test things!) but if not, I'll give it a go on tuesday.
Also, just for my understanding (I'd hate to loose the phone but it's not my main one and I will test on it regardless) but what is the recovery possibilities if this flash fails? You're using the softspl which was posted a couple days ago correct? So it shouldn't damage the phone if the flash fails though I wont be able to use the softspl to flash again correct? I should be able to flash a manufactures rom from bootloader over USB or memory card though? (Yes I understand that shit happens and it could easily screw the phone but this should generally be the situation?)
As I said, I will test on tues (or sooner if I can find an XP computer sooner) regardless of recovery chances but I am just trying to gain some understanding of what I'm getting myself into :)

Bad news is when I go to install the OS - I run the Rom Update Utility and I get an ERROR 208: File Open
The Update Utility can not open the requested file. Please check your Update Utility.
The only option I have from there is to quit. I'm quite sure it's the .nbh file - I used it with an official rom and it worked fine :(
Where do we go from here - got another attempt? :)

Few questions:
1) when the WM6 is ready and running (lets say there wont be any problems and it'll be running), will it be possible to downgrade back to WM5? If YES, then HOW? Just run the official WM5 ROM? This is one of the most important things for me
2) let's say I want to do backups every night and I have WM6 running on my Qtek 8500. Will the backups work fine? That means will the WM6 on Qtek 8500 behave like any official WM6 for any other device, or will it behave somehow "special"?

I think you are jumping the boat a bit here! However, you should be able to revert to WM5 by flashing an original rom - however, we're still at a very early stage of trying to get this to work so unless you are ok with potenially bricking your phone, I'd hold off until we get something a little more "finished"

The only improvement I noticed with WM6 over WM5 is nicer looking menu bars. I have many WM5 and WM6 devices and that's really the only significant difference I can tell. I think that's why WM6 isn't really version 6, it's actually 5.2 and WM5 was 5.1.

It's not Windows CE 6 because Windows CE is the core, and they didn't release Windows CE 6 yet. I've been using WM6 on my new blackjack II for about a month now, and can say I've noted several improvements.
Windows Update for OTA updates
Nicer UI
Nicer icons
OFFICE MOBILE (!!)
Slight improvements in exchange server setup
Few extra office and management applications
That's just a few of the more notable ones...
GnatGoSplat
13th January 2008, 06:18 AM
Office Mobile can be installed in WM5 and I don't think Windows Updates will work on non-official WM6 devices because it sends a unique device ID to Microsoft.
So the only real obvious difference is the nicer UI and icons which is great but not really super exciting.

The WM6 bluetooth stack seems an improvement over the WM5 release. For instance, my car's central console shows phone reception strength (bar icon) when paired with WM6 devices such as my S730, but does not give that information when paired with WM5 devices such as my 8500. Further, in my opinion, Email set-up screens seem more usable in WM6.

Whenever I run pdocread.exe from itsutil to cid unlock the command prompt shuts down soon as the words appear so I can't see what the uniqueid is. Any body else had this problem?
UPDATE: Sorry I figured it out but the http://www.spv-developers.com/strtrkCID/ seems to not be working anymore the site just refreshes and does not give a download link. Can anyone confirm?

I have an OS.nb, what do I use to make the nbh file? I tried nbhgen and every time I run the RUU, it goes to 2%, then the phone restarts and I get "Error [270]" and a message about the image being corrupted.
I tried both the original and modified RUU, and both the built-in and Soft SPL. All did the same. My phone is CID unlocked.
Only thing I can think of is I didn't make the nbh file correctly.

the best for strtrek is imgfs_tools_182 by mamaich
GnatGoSplat

Thanks Erofich, I tried imgfs_tools_182 by mamaich and it results in the nbh file being 38MB instead of 35MB but it still won't flash. Still Error 270 and "image file is corrupted".
Any ideas? Is nbhgen the correct program to convert OS.nb to nbh?

GnatGoSplat,
I'm using htc rom tool - search a forum for it.

You need to use SoftSPL only every time when flashing non-cingular rom

Thanks Erofich, I got HTC ROM Tool to work. That was the problem.
I cooked a WM5 and it worked. Then I tried a WM6 and now my bootscreen is flickering! :) Onto bootloader mode...
You can try asking Helmi_C for help, but I've never seen him do a Smartphone before, just PDA phones.
I'm determined to figure it out. :)

Woohoo! May I have the XIP.bin now? I'm impatient. :)
What are the white squares on top?
Looks like the SYS needs to be updated as well. 5.2.1711 goes with Build 18165.0.5.0.

The white blocks are some sort of graphical error (I don't know if there's mis-linked/missing images or some other glitch). They are clearly where an image should be (signal strength, battery status, bluetooth etc). Could be an incompatible .dll perhaps? The phone feels stable - I've made several phone calls on it and it seems to work fine :) The few bugs I've found have been reported to Erofich and he's working on them :) Other then those, everything seems to be working well (even the external screen - I was shocked at that one - I thought it was going to take some doing to make that work correctly!)
Great work Erofich!

Maybe someone can help me...
I am using only the XIP from Erofich WM6 on my ROM.
Icons work, green SEND button works, everything else works except one thing: ActiveSync doesn't work. I get Error 608. I have added the asyncmac.dll driver from the T-Mo Shadow (which seems to be the same for all WM6 smartphones) but that didn't seem to help. I can't even get into the Connections screen.
Anyone have any ideas?

7. run pdocread again with these arguments : "pdocread -n 1 0x000000 0x10000 -b 0x4000 original-bdk1.nb". This will make original-bdk1.nb file in build folder (where the pdocread is located).
Stupid question....how to run pdocread with those arguments "pdocread -n 1 0x000000 0x10000 -b 0x4000 original-bdk1.nb" ? Someone help me plz...tks http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

Hi all. Excuse me for my English...
Erofich,
I like very much your wm6.1 standard rom. Thank you! I am also very interested on your wm6 "professional" on qtek 8500 (if I got you right).
I've never used a PPC so I'm wondering how it is possible to use Qyek 8500 and applications with the same OS of a touchscreen device but without a touchscreen.
Some things in some way related to that issue:
My qtek 8500 (wm5) was able to recognize a bluetooth mouse but I was not able to use it (to do the same job of sphelper for one example or the same job of a PC-mouse controlling my qtek via activesync for another)
Is there a way to use bluetooth mouse on qtek 8500 wm6 "professional"?
I know there is "cc snake" a game that let you control snake path utilising smartphone camera. Is there any chance to control a mouse pointer the same way?

Hello,

Stable or not, there isn't an official one yet though.
Only self-made ROMs are available. So you have to try by yourself, whether they're stable or not. ;)
But seriously, the most of them are stable enough to work smoothly.
You can find several WM6 ROMs here on this board.
