OK, it's looking good now. The update to A02 went OK, although each step takes a bit of time. Right now I'm flashing the 0PP ROM and based on what I've seen now, don't think I will have any problems. Thanks for listening!

Thanks Mike and others for those tips. I would never have thought about renaming the files. I was having the exact same problem you were c the 4 files I had unpacked with WinRar--kept getting the "suitable image not found" error. Will try the update on Sunday or Monday once back in town! :)

In fact, you can just go through from 2003se to wm6 by one step flash.

Hello, I was wondering If anyone tried to install the Chainpus Gamepad BGP-100 driver or the Belkin Thumbboard Snap'n'Type....
I'd like to know if both will work flawlessly before I update my x50v from WM2003SE to WM6...;)

I dont know what to do now. i reset my hand held when opera stopped responding and now ooting it hangs at 20%, so i remove the batt for a coupple hrs, nothing. then ive tried to reflash with wm6 rmt and wm5 a03, they both hang on erasing storage. i assume that the boot area ofthe handheld is still ok because i can get into the sd loader. i am going to try and take my axim apart and remove the backup batt for 24 hrs and try to reflash. i really dont want a 200 dollar brick, but if it has to be i guess i can always sell it for parts.

Hi everyone!

I just found the thread and the WM6 ROM for the Dell X50v. My device is still operating under WM2003SE and I was very excited to see the ROM to upgrade to WM6.

I downloaded the ROM as well as the 2 upgrades to WM5 which I understand I have to do first. But when I wanted to install the new ROM's I noticed the files were .nb0. I have upgraded by ROM before but always through the ones provided by Dell and to be honest I have no clue how to install the ROMs on your posts...

I hope someone will be able to help and explain me how to do the upgrades and start enjoying what seems to be a fantastic new ROM.

Million thanks !

i just found this out and wanted to share the knowledge. if you hold down the power and record button and the hit the reset button, same timing as getting into the sd loader, you can get into a diagnostic menu.

It's the same procedure as is listed in the first post of this thread to upgrade to WM6.

Where is the application to capture the screen? I have two caps of WM6 on my device, but in the A02 RTM I cant see it. Where is? It's removed? Maybe I made the caps from the A02 RC2? First I installed the RC2 when it was released and then upgrade to the RTM version when it was available. Only two possibilities and I can't be so blind to see the app in the programs or settings menu.

I do apologize if this was mentioned earlier. I looked at every post for the RTM and pre-release threads and did not find this mentioned.

Does this ROM include the drivers/software for enabling the VGA-out capability of the x50v?

Some software includes its own drivers (Resco, Conduits PocketSlides). Has anyone tried these?

This has been my first visit to these forums and I'm glad to see that there are people out there still developing OS ROMs for the X50v! I've been toying with the WM6 A02 rom and love it so far! The only thing I'd ask for is to build us a CAB for the app switcher. Unless of course, someone has a link to it. :)

Does anyone else here use pocket player? I recently noticed a new "feature", whereby pocket player will appear to freeze the axim, then you tell it to exit and it acts as though it has closed, but the process is still running. There is no was to terminate it and you have to do a soft-reset to get it working again. anyone else?

Does anyone here have any info as to how I can go online with my Axim. I posted about this earlier but have not gotten any response. Every time I try to go online with it(and I do have wireless in my house) it wont work. I have tried it on the cradle, and it keeps on saying that there is no internet connection. I have tried it off the axim pressing the wi-fi button and nothing happens. I don't know how to set up the axim to recognize my wireless internet..if that is the only way to do it..any help would be greatly appreciated..thank U

Have you tried reading the instructions on how to configure a wireless network?

Step 1:
Make sure your wireless is turned on.

Step 2:
Find your wireless through Dells in built utility.

Step 3:
Tap your network.

Step 4:
Navigate to the "Authentication" tab or whatever (I don't have my Axim on WM6 so not entirely sure)

Step 5:
Select the network key type (it should say on the bottom of your wireless box if you got it from your ISP)

Step 6:
Input your network key.

Step 7:
It should be connected within a few seconds

If anyone can revise this to make it simpler and/or more accurate to WM6, don't hesitate. it's 6:30AM and i'm a little tired :)

Is anybody else having problems with overheating, I am getting freezes which display the 80% freeze at restart and during which the Battery and Axim get very hot. If I let them both cool and do and restart it says there has been a memory error and restarts, this time correctly.

In addition, since I moved to WM06 with the excellent Maglite WM06 A01 I have been hav-ing problems with movies of the CF and SD card playing in the Coreplayer. In WM5 the big-gest problem I error experience was with audio/ video being out of synch. Since the update to WM6 I am getting a lot of bad stuttering during video playback. Video freezes and audio con-tinues and then returns 10 seconds later. This seems to be an i/o problem,

I have this exact same problem... however it rarely even connects, but when it does, it is only for a second.

This seems to be a very slight problem, perhaps faulty wireless cards with a particular batch of X50v's? Are you a UK user? What router are you using?

It appears to work on WM5A01 but nothing after that... .would there be a way to get the Wireless drivers off WM5A01 and use them on WM6A02?

I am experiencing slowdown (and very occasional crash) issues with my X50v now that I have installed all my apps... May move to 0MB PP if the wireless can be fixed.

Hi Obsidiandesire...
I'm from Italy and I'm using a Dlink G-624T Router...
And I used my x50v with WM2003SE everyday with WIFI WPA encryption without any problem. After upgrading to WM6 A02 RTM (Zeus_Alex 0PP version) the only way to connect is using WEP or no encryption at all...;) Perhaps we have to wait for a new fix...

Even with WM6 A02 RTM I can't see any OpenGL ES improvement in games... I suppose that the PowerVR driver for the 2700G chipset is the one that comes with the latest Dell Official WM5 A02... Is it right?
If so... Is there a chance that someone highly skilled could write a new faster driver? I found reference of open source PowerVR drivers for Linux that could be a good starting point... It would be amazing to have a really faster machine... By the way, is the D3D Mobile driver also the same as the first release of WM5 x51v ? I read that this driver was bad implemented and easily outperformed by a software implementation...

Thanks MagLite. I flashed my device to this latest ROM. As far as I can see now everthing is working, so far :D

Well I experienced my first problem(s)
After switching it off this morning afther the upgrade I wasn't able to switch wifi on. I had installed the first four programs of post #1
I uninstalled them one-by-one to see if they caused the problem which wasn't the case.
I decided to hardreset and it worked again. Now I hope I don't have to hardresert every time wifi doesn't work.
Until now. I installed two of the programs again, switch wifi on/off a few times, still it kept working.
I made a small backup.

[QUOTE=MagLite_RUS;1520502][SIZE="2"]Attention! If you have Windows Mobile 2003SE ROM on your device, FIRST, please download THIS ARCHIVE (http://rapidshare.com/files/53847340/AximX50v_WM5_A01_EN.rar) (RAR 32.4 MB), and update your PDA to A01 Windows Mobile 5 ROM.
After that, please download (http://rapidshare.com/files/53856933/A02_WM5_x50v.EXE) official WM5 A02 ROM and update your PDA to WM5 A02 ROM.

After doing this in the order you listed does it matter which A02 I install?

Hi all, please help me as my X50v is dead after upgrading toWM6.

I followed every instructions stated here and successfully upgraded from 2003SE to WM5 A02. I have also finish using the SD card to upgrade to WM6. At the last screen it says I have to hard reset to take effect. I hard reset it but nothing happened. The screen is blank, totally blank now. I did remove the battery and put it back, But still the same.
And there is no way to reflash the ROM cos there is totally no screen display at all. The screen is just blank either using battery or on the cradle.

the help desk, for computer and network support at your university, if a certificate is needed for wireless access, they will give you one.
I dont know where it is, because I dont go to that university.

you should search for this issue when you have the certificate, ive seen threads where people explain how to put these in, on WM6, likely in the A01 rom thread.

After much reading about WM6 for x50v, and having successfully run my x50v on Maglite_RUS' WM5 A03 since early August, I have decided to flash to his WM6 RTM 0_PP. Before I flash I plan to buy a 4G sdhc card. What class (2/4/6) is supported? I don't want to over buy.

Thanks :) Maglite_RUS :) for all your excellent and hard work on the ROMs (and to Zeus_Alex and others for PP testing and feedback). I'll provide my own feedback after I flash.

EDIT: NEVERMIND. . . the price differences among 2/4/6 are so small ($5-6 US) that I just went ahead and bought the Class 6.

If I am right I think this has been told before. that protocol is not supported by the Axims (It is not a problem with maglite release... but with any Windows Mobile). It is just the Axim hardware doesn't support it.

I have been running this ROM for nearly 4 week with 0 PP for 2 weeks now. I had to move to 0PP as my battery was spontaneoulsy drining away with 4 MP PagePool. Since moving to 0 PP that problem is solved and device is genrally very responsive. I have recently intalled Micosoft Reader and sometime the programme does not initates properly. The problem usually solves after a soft reset. The other programmes including Adobe Reader , TomTom 6.032 and Garmin XT 4.10.20 pw are working fine. My copy of Reader is not activated yet. I am going to activate it now and see what happens .

Thanks Hendrixus.

I'll try it out.
It also seems that the HI_RES_Aware via the *.mui files works well for WM 6.0. See:

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/windows-mobile-5/103786-how-force-hi_res_aware-true-vga-windows-mobile-5-0-a.html

It makes Adobe Reader much more usuable!

I had a problem getting a GPRS connection via bluetooth to the LG850 Prada phone from my PocketPC. It seems that for the GPRS connection the phone requires an extra initialization string to tell it which network profile to use. In Windows Mobile 6.0 (WM 6.0) non phone edition the functionality to add an extra initialization string to the modem has been removed. But there is a workaround. One has to edit one of the registry keys of the PocketPC to add the extra initialization code. Try at your own risk:

1.
Download a registry editor, such as the CeRegEditor v 0.0.3.1 by mdsoft. This even allows you to edit the registry of your PocketPC on your PC when your connected to your PC

2.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\DRIVERS\Unimodem\Init

3.
Now enter a third string value for the initialization:
Click Edit\New\Stringvalue
Enter under

Valuename:
3

Value data:
AT+CGDCONT =1,"IP","apn.address"

You have to change apn.address with the GPRS APN (Network profile Name) that allows your phone to connect to the internet. I also think that the space before the =1 is important.
In case you don’t know the GPRS APN for your network provider, you can find these for the UK at:
http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html

4.
In the CERegEdit click on the green star icon to perform a soft rest and change the Registry on the PocketPc.

Maybe this is of help to somebody!

Microsoft reader is not compatible with WM6, it results in the cpu auto-speed maxing out, and killing the battery in a few hours.
Either a google search or a good read over at Microsoft's site will tell you more, but basically they have no plans for updating MSreader to work properly with WM6.

Yeah, i was upset too. i switched all my books over to mobipocket though, which works fine.

Youtube videos will work with Mobile Internet Explorer after installing Flash Player 7 for Pocket PC (free from Adobe), however the videos I've tested were not playing very well... I tried to change the temporary internet files to the SD Card but there was no speed improvement. Looks like the processor is still weak for flash videos.

You are saying you are able to stream videos from youtube? I find that impossible, it won't work. Flash Player 7 cannot play flash 9 movies. Even Adobe says this.

There is a TCMP plugin, but it doesn't work with youtube.

I am still looking for a streaming solution.

Thanks for your advice. The best Reader in my view is Adobe Reader for PPC version 2.0 as you can set it to autoscroll and unlimited options to change the font size clours etc . Adobe Reader is basically not intended for WM6 but in practice works fine . Do not use Adobe Acrobat to tag the files otherwise you can not open the files in WM5 or MW6 though it was fine with WM2003SE. Just drag the file to folder while active synchro runs and leave the tagging to PPC Reader. I am using Microsoft Reader and have tried to activate but it still stays not activated with this ROM. I have to soft reset occassionally but once it runs it does so smoothly.

Thanks for the amazing work you've done!

Unfortunately not everything seemed to go flawlessly. After the ROM was updated it ended with "Update fail (-1)". Is this expected behaviour? After resetting it did boot into WM6.

I also got some errors after the first boot which complained about not being able to start some programs and after changing the regional settings from US to UK my device hangs around 80% while trying to boot.
Restoring to factory settings did not fix the problem, entering the SD Loader and flashing the ROM again got it working again. Still got the feeling though something's wrong. When I flash back to WM5 it keeps the background I set strangly enough.

Again thanks for the great work! :)

Filesys is doing exactly what it is meant to do - compaction. If it didn't, you would not be able to write to the internal storage. When you 'write', a whole sector (hardware dependant) must be written - you cannot just add or update (this is how flash memory works). Eventually you run out of 'virgin' sectors and you must compact (i.e. shuffle files around to ensure sectors are as fully used as possible). This involves erasing a sector and re-writing it. For devices shipped originally with WM2003, the flash memory is NOR flash. This is fast at reading and writing, but very slooooow at erasing - this is what maxes out the filesys.exe. Later (WM5/6 only) devices use NAND flash which is not as fast read/write (check out SKTools benchmarks) but are very quick at erasing.

So, it is a hardware issue that pre WM5 devices (like the x50, hx4700) cope badly with WM5/6, not down to the way the operating system is set up. The way to mitigate this is:

Don't install too many things (not more than 50% of the total) on the internal storage
Don't put anything on the internal storage that makes many updates (use SD or CF card)
Move messaging and browser cache files to your SD or CF card

Devices like the x51/x51v are fine as they use NAND flash, but even these slow down if you fill the internal storage too much. The best thing is to let filesys run, uninterrupted, for a while if it needs to.

I tried a few times to hard reset but the X50v just cannot power up.

Is this the final day of my X50v? Can someone provide some help cos I do not find any same situation in the forum.

Thanks.

Dock your Axim to its Cradle, if the power button lights up, its not totally dead yet.

Can you get to the bootloader? Try this.
1. Press WIFI+POWER (hold, don't release)
2. Short press with your stylus the Soft Reset button at the Back.

If you can get to the bootloader, try upgrading again to WM6.

migatxu

How did you made the upgrade? Step by step. Maybe after you've installed the bootloader, when the device asked you a Hard Reset, you saw that black screen, the device didn't start again, it's normal, repeat the last step (wifi+power+reset) and install the OS. Maybe your problem was that.

BTW, I have noticed that every time I hard reset the system takes on a different personality. the last time it was very snappy.. I can all kinds of trouble upgrading my Axim X50v with the pre-requisites for the WM6 upgrade, namely the WM2005 A01 and A02 ROM upgrades. When the upgrade is done through ActiveSync you have to perform a hard reset of the device after the first stage. Unfortunately, I could never get Activesync to recognise the device until I rebooted and so I couldn't complete both stages.

The solution was to uninstall ActiveSync 4.5 and to install ActiveSync 4.2 and then to install the A01 and A02 ROM upgrades and then follow the instructions on the thread for WM6.

Hope this helps someone.

Cheers!

alright mine has been dead for awhile so i will prolly sell it for parts unless i can get it working again by some miracle. does anyone know a way to format the flash storage on the device through a boot up utility on an sd card, because my unit hangs at 20 percent and when i go to re flash it with either wm5 or wm6 in the sd loader it hangs on erasing storage, but at different locations in each. and the odd thing is, that the whole unit passes the built in diagnostic test. i would really love to use it again.

Hello everyone,

I am just another X50v user and today I have upgraded to WM6...and it looks so great.

I still have a possible "issue" with Activesync...it is connected but no files are transfered.

Any hints?

I would like to Maglite for this nice release.

Thanks to all who have made this version of WM! I have been dealing with a sluggish WM5 version on my Axim x50v. I upgraded to WM6 and it is like a miracle! The increase in speed is incredible. I have reloaded all of my apps and they are all working well.

Thanks for a quality app. I wish that manufacturers could do as well.

Well you are doing better than me. Yes, the Maglite upgrade was easy and I was able to reload my old apps from the ActiveSyc menu ( which was really neat).

I have set the speed to 624Mhz and still it runs really slooooowwwwww:mad: esp in PI 2007

I would be interested to hear if you if you have done any reg tweaks or the apps you are running.

Thanks to Maglite, I have downloaded WM6 and installed on my Dell Axim X50v. Everything works now after minor teasing problems with the exception of Axim Wireless Keyboard. :o

I have tried installing the WM2003SE version that came with my Dell Axim, unfortunately driver does not work with WM6 upgrade.

Any clues please anyone?

Kind Regards

Hibble 2007

Problem is resolved by downloading a new driver from http://www.thinkoutside.com/support/Drivers.asp - Hope this link will help those X50v users who might have a Dell Wireless Keyboard with similar compatibility issues.

A few points that should be noted:

1. wifi + power can be pressed even when the Axim is switched on.

2. I pressed the action buttons more than twice.

3. SD card need to be reformated to fAT32.

I've tested async with USB and bt.
when syncing using bt make sure that there is no serial port installed .

The latest PlE is much better than opera.
It has a high resolution mode which allows the complete display just as in Pc while not suffering from any distortion.

Thanks for the help, I was trying to do it with a full sdcard so I copied it all over to the PC and then did a format from within Resco explorer, since I do not have a card reader yet, and then placed the two files on my sdcard and low and behold worked like everyone said.

That being said.....I just want to thank everyone who worked on this ROM, it blows the socks off of WM5 which I stinking paid for. You have given me my device back, and everything I used to do with WM5 I can still do with WM6, it is sooooo sweet!! And battery life has increased so much that I cannot believe it, I was beginning to wonder if the ROM was broken in its ability to find battery % it was dropping so slowly!!

Again, THANKS A BUNCH for this ROM and the work you have put into it!

Ok. This could be a stupid question or it might have been answered before.
My Axim was working quite well with the WM5 by Maglite (12Mb pool).
Then I tried WM6 A02 (4Mb pool) and found it to we worst than the WM5.
Then tried the WM6 A02 (0Mb pool) and also had trouble with that (slow).
Of course I always try to install programs on CF Card and apply hacks and redirect PIECache and so...
The question is why is 4Mb pool or 0Mb better than 12Mb? Why was it reduced with WM6?
I am thinking about trying a WM6 with 8Mb or 12Mb pool and see how it goes.
Have anybody tried that?
Thanks.

Because a big Page Pool is a waste of Memory...
If you have a memory hog application , you can barely run it...
To define the size of the Page Pool is to understand your real need...
A bigger one will make faster the loading of the code of the application but the execution speed will be the same... A lot of free memory insted will allows you to run every resource demanding application.

Thanks maglite_rus for his great works!

I am new here and also suffering by the filesys. please bear with my ignorance if it does not make sense to you: I found some data points:
1. An MS WM expert shared their research result of filesys on nor device:
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2006/06/07/621132.aspx

The MS WM expert believes the algorithm is not designed for nor device as storage (write is too slow). Maybe it's time to change the algorithm in filesys?

2. Someone claimed WM5 has a well-behaved filesys, there was an attemp to hex edit it for WM6 and somehow did not work. If it is really working well on WM5, can this filesys expert who delivered the filesys in WM5 help to port it to WM6?

Problem is, this button stopped working on my AXIM a couple of weeks ago!! Is there any other way to hard reset the device???? do I NEED to be able to hard reset???!?!???!? WM5 and WM6 both have the added feature, persistent memory, that is, they DON'T hard reset when the battery goes dead.
that sucks that your button broke, I've worn nearly through my d-pad on mine.

UMMM... wouldn't that be a hardware relative symptom??? I know that the new wm5 and 6 devices use flash memory often intead of our "memory loss without power" memory. I don't see it not hard resetting without power is this true?? can anyone try their flashed x50v for me?? leave the batt out and see if it hard-resets????

I guess my real question is this, when you go through the flashing process, and it flashes and the next step is to "hard reset the device" what is the PDA actually doing at this time, does a soft reset not do the trick??? would a soft reset somehow give you the old OS????? surely not.

Ummm, I did the first flash, using the Dell official version 2. It found the image, spent maybe 2 seconds on it and then sid it was done. I hit power and reset like it asked and now.... Only response I get out of the thing is the boot command, soo, I retried the flash and it is taking its time this go round, sooo, I'm hoping for the best.... I love how I'm just typing to myself here, it's at least helpful for me to think things out! lol.

Oh, BTW, you don't have to press the "contacts" button for the hard reset after the rom flash, so I'm OK there.

After my experience with this, I'm guessing that "bricking" your x50v is only meaning it doesn't have a proper ROM, but it's no problem to put one onto it even if you've messed up the exiting one????

The SD Card does not suffer form the NOR issue so is there away to transfer any temp writes to this through the WM6 O/S (registry)

It's not dependant on any hardware changes, because with wm2003, the OS was stored in rom(the flash memory), all programs and user data was stored in ram, but the thing that set the x50 apart was it's large chunk of flash memory. under wm2003 what was left after storing the OS image was made available to the user as a seperate drive, called BIS, or Built In Storage. under wm5 or 6 this is simply available as the file system's root, without any splitting.

this enabled it to be upgraded to wm5 or 6, and when that happened, it went from using the ram for shared program storage and program operating memory to just using it as a computer uses ram, and now stores the programs in the flash memory.

a soft reset would not return you to the old OS, what it may do is leave bits of the old stuff you have in the built in storage laying around to muck things up. It's more of a house cleaning thing than an absolute need.

Bug report windows live build 10.6.0031.260 crashes on log in on the X50v updated to A03.

Also a strange occurrence: if I map the contacts button to an app call Taskmanager and map the old Home button to the "iLauncher task manager" both buttons open the same app i.e. task manager. Doesn't seem to happen with other combinations but might be a bug related to the way the Home has been disengaged, as there is no icon for this button in the buttons list (only a number).

I'm having major problems. Here's where it started.
I installed WM6 RTM A02 and everything was fine until that dreaded day (about a week ago) :( . The X50V locked up when I was in messaging. I have gotten so used to soft resetting I figured that would solve my problem. I soft reset the Axim and then it got to 75% loading and locked completely up and just stayed at 75%. I soft reset it a few more times and it it did the same thing. I had this problem before so I went into the SD loader by holding power + wireless and then pressed the soft reset button. I proceeded to reflash WM6 A02 RTM and it looked like everything was fine until at the very end of the installation when it was finishing erasing the memory I received an "Update failed - 1" error code. I then began to freak out. I couldn't get out of that screen until I performed a hard reset. I was able go through the initial set-up (screen alignment and all that other good stuff) and then it locked up completely on me again at 75% loading. I knew I had some big problems after that. So then I tried to go back to WM5. I grabbed Maglite's WM5 A03 rom and tried to install it. Got the "Update failed - 1" error code again at the very end of the installation. The crazy thing is that it installed WM5 but it locked up when I started using it like before. I then tried to use Dell's reinstallation to Windows Mobile 2003SE but that didn't make it all the way either.

Does anyone have any helpful ideas or is my PDA toast? I so badly need this PDA is not even funny and I'm too broke to buy a new one. I hope someone can help me. I have a lot of meetings to keep track of and this past week has been chaotic trying to keep my schedule in order.

Thanks in advance for your help! :o

Thanks Maglite for your excellent work.
Successfully hexedited the nbo file of the A02 rom to give myself a 6MB pagepool which is slightly larger than Maglite's 4MB, as I do tend to run multiple applications at the same time on my axim. I have downloaded all my applications, this time all onto the SD card, as recommended by many axim experts, to keep the filesys ferocity minimised. Filesys wear leveling still kicks in from time to time but it is certainly less frequent, and when it does it lasts for a shorter period of time. So, a definite recommendation to everyone who wants less menace from filesys: please install as many things as possible on your SD card, and keep all write operations to your main storage memory to a minimum.
Apart from a few minor things I am truly pleased with this rom, and it has certainly brought a new life to my pda. With WM6 now fine tuned by Maglite, the X50V lives on. I am truly amazed at how versatile this device has been through the years.

How in the world can I speed my unit up? All my programs are installed to the CF card and even when I turn the SPB apps off on the Today screen, this thing is slower than cold mollasses. It also frequently locks up and I need to soft reset.

Any ideas? I will be searching on the 'pagepool' thing I keep hearing about, but can anyone attest that it actually will help?

I'll try but I have a gut feeling it won't help. I had just downloaded the file a few days ago and did a format then brought the files over to the flash drive. ic3d3m0n, I put this file in windows/startup, and it yields the error message

"Cannot find filesys:msflash compaction thread! This version of patch_filesys is not compatible with your ppc or your ROM version. Sorry!"

The hex code for my x50v is af e7 ff d6. After getting the above error message, I used a hex editor to look for the right place to change the device hex code, but was unable to. How do I get filesys_patch.exe to work on my x50v WM6 A02 RTM?

Thanks for posting.
Chas

Thanks ic3d3m0n, the patch seems to launch at reboot now (a quick white box flashes by with a "cancel" button inside), but filesys then kicked in at 25-100% of CPU (per MemMaid) and ran for about ten minutes. Isn't the patch supposed to slow it to a max of 25%?

Also, I am an amateur - I don't know how to work with source code (I don't have visual studio) - I only know how to hex edit (using xvi32) the exe file if I am told which string to change. So thanks for inserting my hex into the file so i could try it.

My x50v has been running well on Maglite's WM6 A02 RTM 0-PP for about a month now. However, several days ago I installed "SpbPocketPlus4" and "TimePanic" (both to device), and filesys again became an issue. So I uninstalled both softwares, but filesys issues remain.

Therefore, I am going to reflash again - to A03 4-PP - to see how it works. If you are interested in knowing what other software I use, see http://www.aximsite.com/boards/vbgarage.php?do=view&id=70590.

I tried the patch 2 month ago, I recompile it with visual embedded c++.
I tried diferents configuration inside de file.

My conclution is that this patch only slow down filesys process, but not compaction threat, filesys process do a lot of things like control access to the ROM. When I tried slow down filesys to 1% the axim can't read from the flash because only have 1% cpu to read, write and compaction.
When I tried 30% the axim read to slow from the rom and compaction thread takes a lot of time and still slow down read and write.

sorry my english.

I still do the fake server hack as a default with every ROM upgrade. If you haven't already, give that a try. Also make sure Activesync is closed after every sync - it doesn't close by itself. And install as many apps as possible (especially those that create data) to Card (not device). When I upgraded to WM6, I bought a Class 6 SDHC - I have no data to prove it, but it feels faster than an SD card did in WM5.

The slowness might be filesys (3rd party software like MemMaid will reveal if it is) - I plug in my Axim every night, and have set a quiet alarm to wake it up early so filesys runs its course (about 10 minutes) before my first use of the day. I'm still playing with filesys_patch.exe to see if that helps, too.

You must use a freshly formatted SD card with nothing else on it but the ROM files. Follow directions given on first page of this post very carefully! Flashing success requires following a very strict protocol.

Everyone who has upgraded their x50v to WM5or6 eventually sees filesys run. On mine it completes its run in about 10 minutes if the axim remains powered on. If its run is interupted (axim is powered off while filesys is running), it starts over again - thus it is especially problematic when running on battery because the max timeout on battery power is 5 minutes.

Does anyone know how to hack the registry to allow a 10- & a 15-minute battery timeout? I tried changing \\\registry\HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\ Power\Timeouts\Batt** settings, but it left my axim unstable requiring a hard reset.

Heey again guys.

I'm a tweaking/ocing kinda guy and since I have an HTC touch and a dell axim x50v I've been researching registry tweaks for both my ppc's.

I have found the following to help on the x50v and maybe the OP can put some insight into it and maybe on the next release apply them ;)

Battery Saving Tweak (still testing it on the x50v but I heard on other ppc's it works)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\AsyncMac1\Parms]
Default value type and value are
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1
Change to
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\Irsir1\Parms]
Default value type and value are
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1
Change to
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\PPTP1\Parms]
Default value type and value are
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1
Change to
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\L2TP1\Parms]
Default value type and value are
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:1
Change to
“DisablePowerManagement”=dword:0

Startup files and Services Tweaks

Delete the following:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services]
sqmupload
certenroll
SNApi

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\init]
uptimesqm
wifioff

To apply the above registry hacks you must use a registry editor (I believe there are a few free ones roaming around here) and make sure you do a backup of the registry before working on it.

More to come!

I found A03 is so great as the XIP really help to save the DRAM usage. Now more programs can be running in the same time with much less DRAM. Great job! Maglite.

However, with A03 beta, the Dell GPS navigator program causes the system running exremly slow, almost not responsive at all. As long as the Dell GPS program stops, the system goes back to normal. With A02 RTM seems to be not as bad as A03 beta for this program. Anyone can advise what's special about this program? Any advice is highly appreciated!

Yes. I get it every time, too. I thought it was normal - pressing the contacts button simply does a soft reset, and the axim is good to go..

It shouldn't be normal. There is an internal battery that is suppose to kick in while your changing out. Its just anoying, but everything else is so much better then Wm5. thought i'd ask and see. accidentally did a factory reset..oops. It also is a little anoying while watching a movie and have to switch out the battery.

THought i would ask to see and if there is a way to keep it from having to soft reset it. the error is telling me power just being cut, just me tho.

I remember on Dell's 2003 and WM5 when the compartment was opened it would go into sleep mode and off internal power. This would also display a note once powered back up.

cmagdanz Thanks for the info tho at least im not the only one.

I have worse problem. When I replace battery and return it, I get question reset to factory or cancel. After that I press cancel and system can't load. Loding progress stops near about 20% from the end. If I select reset to factory then the same situation. Only image update solves this problem. It happenes with WM5.0 A03, WM6.0 A02, WM6.0 A03. Because right now I checked 3 ROMs and with two of them, I have the problem when x50v couldn't start after power off. And with official it doesn't happen.

On my side I think thatI solved this problem. I increased pagepool on WM6.0 A03and now it restarts more stable after replacing battery than with 4 Mgb.
