Is it possible to take the MDA firmware and install on the 8125? I'm using the 8125 with t-mob and would like to improve the network scanning etc..
Thanks.

Tell me what is your IPL/SPL that is displayed when you first boot up the phone and depending on your answer, I may be able to help you.

Alright. That's what I was hoping you would say. Your 2.25 IPL/SPL means you have a G3 which is the only model that can be CID unlocked and CID unlocking is the only way you're getting T-Mobile firmware on your 8125.
Lets begin. You really hope you are VERY GOOD(better than very good preferably). The first step in your adventure is to downgrade your device from a 2.25 IPL using the button rom (http://www.sendspace.com/file/q4qzne). You want to make sure your device is connected to your PC via ActiveSync or first put your device into bootloader mode by turning it off and then holding the camera button while powering it back on.
Now your device should have an IPL, GSM, and OS that is less than 2.
Now you want to download lokiwiz from here (http://www.sendspace.com/file/q64p4w)
Make sure your device is connected to your computer via USB cable but do not sync!! CANCEL ACTIVESYNC SETUP BEFORE CONTINUING
Unrar Lokiwiz and run the program lokiwiz v.02b I'm guessing your device is already sim unlocked since you are using a Cingular device with T-Mobile so you can go ahead and click C and then enter. Lokiwiz will CID unlock your phone and then automatically soft reset the device.
When your device powers back on, it will be CID unlocked.
Your next step is to flash the T-Mobile official rom that can be found here (http://rapidshare.com/files/39070721/T-mobile_Wizard_Rom.exe.html).
And now if you did everything correctly, you should now have the official T-Mobile WM5 rom and 2.26 IPL/SPL instead of 2.25. The extended rom, also included with the T-Mobile official rom, will automatically configure your netwok settings so you will also have the T-Mobile EDGE network and all MMS settings will be automatically configured for you.
Now this step is optional but highly reccomended. I reccommend you flash the IPL/SPL 3.08 for faster boot times. It flashes just like any other RUU so it is easy to use. You can download that here (http://rapidshare.com/files/31072268/IPL_SPL_3.08.rar.html).
I really hope this helps you. Please post your results whether good or bad so I know if I was able to help.
NOTE: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR FROM USING THIS METHOD. This method is proven to work and I personally did exactly this same thing to my own phone with no problems.

Thanks very much. I already have my 8125 CID unlocked and SIM unlocked. Yes, I'm moderately good. .LOL.
I will try this today and post the results right after. Also, no worries, you are not liable for any damage that I might cause but fairly certain this will work.

Dan, thanks very much for your clear instructions. It worked like a charm. You're a genius! My 8125 is running IPL/SPL 3.08 now.. I have to reinstall my apps (like ms voice commander, tcpmp etc.). Great work!

Glad I was able to help! Now your 8125 should be more accepting of your T-Mobile sim card and network settings(re-installing apps an un-avoidable part of the rom upgrade process).
