GPRS works in IExplorer but - applications other applications can't use network conne

Dear friends,

I'm experiencing the following wired problem with my Sim-unlocked O2 XDA Neo (with original O2 software), which I'm using in Austria with the cell-provider tele.ring.

I've properly configured a new network-connection called "teler.ring GPRS" as described by my provider and it's possible for me to dial-in and connect.
When I start the WM5 IExplorer (or Opera Mobile) the phone dials in with GPRS and everything works fine as I'm able to surf the web.
Well unfortunately all other applications except those two (e.g. email, qmail, fring, skype, spbweather) are not able to use this internet connection - the email application for example tells me that the server cannot be found....:(

I have the feeling they are not accessing the proper network-connection. Is there any special profile I have to alter (e.g. network connection "ISP" or "O2 GRPS", etc.) with the GPRS settings so that the other applications can access the connection too?

How can I debug in this case to find where the problem could be?:confused:

There are two possible causes:

1) When you created the GPRS connection you did it under 'My ISP' correct?
If in the connections dialog you go to the 'advanced' tab and click 'network selection' you will see two drop-down lists. Make sure 'My ISP' (or whatever group your connection is under) is selected in both.
This way all programs will know to use it.

2) The other possibility is more problematic: some cell providers block traffic on all ports except standard HTTP ones (80, 8080) so any program that uses different ports (probably anything other than a browser) will not work.
You will have to settle this with your cell co.

Well I'm not quite sure where to find "My ISP"?
When I've created a new Networkconnection I directly wen to the connections dialog, "the advanced tab" and said "new" in one of the two drop-down lists.

After I've created this new connection, it is available in both of these drop-down boxes. After this, I selected it in both - so that all programs should acutally know how which connection to use.

I'm in email traffic with my cell provider, but actually - as they even offer email as an option - they actaually told me that the specfic ports (e.g .125 for IMAP) should not be blocked..

3) Is there a kind of network monitor for my PPC where I can read the exact statement of failure (e.g. use ping, or other network instruments)?

4) Is it possible that O2 (that's the software I'm using) has a predefined ports or application block on the device, as they I think are offering something like a gprs-flat?

I don't have the answer for 3 and 4 (I know there are network tools just can't remember any right now) but I think your problem is in step two.
You created a new group for your connection and this may confuse some programs.

By default, when you open 'Settings->Connections->Connections' on the first tab you should see 'My ISP' in bold and under that a link 'Add new network connection'. You should create your GPRS connection through that link and not in a new group (don't go to advanced).

If it is not there that could be something O2 did with the settings and unfortunately I am not sure how to get it back.
