2 areas:
1) Eastchurch, Kent, and
2) Various locations, on a train from Chatham to London Cannon Street, most notably around Lewisham.

Stupid question, is this a planned development?

I think EDGE is being implemented for the iphone. Glad we can benefit from it too though.

Another in Kent, on the A249 heading north past Sittingbourne.

.....also in Maidstone town centre - had this steady all the while I was in this locale.

Apparently, this is 'imminent' as the O2 Cust Servs peeps are having training on the new products.

I am all for improvement and all, but can anybody actually notice any difference in speed whilst using EDGE? I have been using loads recently and I cant really see any speed difference.

It has all gone quiet now...the (2 or 3) spots I found before no longer register. Are others finding the same?

What is the difference between EDGE, 3G and HSDPA? and what are the pros and cons?

Thanks,
Sebastian

OK, I've found out.
There's a good site about it all, www.gsmworld.com

For anyone else who doesn't know:

GSM - Global System for Mobile-telecommunications - 9.6Kbps
GPRS - General Packet Radio Service - 28-64Kbps
EDGE - Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution - 84-192Kbps
UTMS (aka 3G, W-CDMA) - Universal Mobile Telecommunications System - 384Kbps
HSDPA - High Speed Downlink Packet Access - UTMS with a faster download speed - 1.8Mbps
HSUPA - High Speed Uplink Packet Access - the same as above but with upload speed.
HSPA - High Speed Packet Access - HSDPA and HSUPA put together.

Each one is an improvement upon the last. (except HSUPA and HSPA)

Hope that helps people :)

TBH I dont know.
EDGE allows 3 times more data to be transfered at one time than GPRS, but whether that means that there can be 3 times more users or each user can have a speed 3 times faster depends on the network and how they choose to use the bandwidth.

Give it a try

i'm back after being reconnected to the network after my mum paid my bill! :-S

i'm not getting edge i'm liverpool city center :-|

i'm not gonna pay £7.50 to o2 for 5 times less data than i get on t-mobile for the same price. i wouldn't be leaving O2 if they had reasonable data rates. love the orbit and my tariff but hate the data rates.

cya O2!
