Andot released several ROMs for Tornado in a Chinese forum. I don't know if anybody has already posted it. The system font is Yahei.
For Tornado without WiFi (SPV C600 etc):
http://www.coolcode.cn/andot/wm6-for-c600-chinese-and-english-version-released

With WiFi (577w and 586w versions provided seperately):
http://www.coolcode.cn/andot/wm6-for-577w-586w-chinese-and-english-version-released

I tried to translate andot's explanations which originally are in Chinese:

This version is based on the Windows Mobile 6 for Tornado perfect chinese V2

* Added english support.

* Deleted customer feedback.
* Deleted Celetask (Replaced with IA Task Manager, Celetask English and Chinese cab files are provided in the attachment).
* Deleted WM5torage (WM5torage English and Chinese versions' cab files are provided separately in the attachment).
* Deleted Registryeditor and Multi flashlight.
* Deleted some useless files and registry entries, system is optimized even more.
* Keypad drive is either that of C600 or 577W and 586W in corresponding ROMs.
* Defined shortcuts.
* Fixed MidiaPlayer not playing Midi problem.
* Default input is M$ ABC.
* Power management is activated by default. This results in longer standby time.
* Added whether or not to charge via USB option. You can find it in Settings> Power Management.
* Added Internet Explorer shortcut setting, you can find it in Settings>internet Explorer ->Shortcut.
* Added Internet Explorer advanced option, you can find it in “Settings->Internet Explorer->Advanced Option”.
* Added Start Menu setting. You can find it in "Settings->Start Menu".
* Looping alarm by default.
* Fixed Shutdown screen (it is different from that of Windows Mobile 6 for Tornado perfect Chinese V2).
* Deleted all the WiFi related options and programs (this is SPV C600 and the like only).
* Deleted Internet Calling.
* Deleted SQL Mobile 2005。
* Deleted Wireless manager (comm manager?).
* Deleted Downlaod Manager.
* Optimized the size of some picture and sound files.
* Added MsYahei ClearType font (3MB and 10MB of size in different versions)

(Sorry for the translation. Neither my Chinese nor my english is good enough to render it perfectly.:))

I hope andot gives an explanation of what is new in these roms.

well, since I'm such a flash-a-holic, I went ahead and flashed the WM6.for.577w.chs.eng.cleartype-20070920 version . . .
took me a bit to figure out how to get it into english, but now it really doesn't seem all to different from andot's earlier "perfect english edition" feature wise.

not really worth flashing in my opinion, but I'm just antsy waiting for phil to release his beta II.

Any questions about this rom that I can try to answer? Tomorrow on my way to work I'll try out the A2DP and see if it sucks.
I really need to sleep now . . almost 3am.

Yeas, I've got some questions:

Does the joystick light up the screen/backlight while the keypad is locked?
If so, how long does the screen stay on?
Does the unlock screen feature the clock/date?

And something you might not be able to answer:
What's up with the "cleartype" roms?
Why do they come in 2 variants (3M and 10M)?

Cheers! :)

Joystick does not light up screen/backlight.
Unlock screen does have date/time

You're right about me not being able to answer the others, the text looks nice, the soft button text is pretty small/thin. Not sure how the old rom looked.

There are a few things going through the menus that are still in chinese. Like when I setup my moto ht820, that was all in chinese, and btw, the a2dp is the same as his p.e.e. rom . . . high freq distortion for me :'-(

Not too sure what you mean about the 3M and 10M.
I went here http://download.coolcode.cn/dopod577w/wm6/
and got WM6.for.577w.chs.eng.cleartype-20070920.zip

hope that helps!

Cheers mate!

Uh, very tempting. :)

About incomplete english: Did you try manually applying a localisation?

What I meant about the cleartypes is this:

"Added MsYahei ClearType font (3MB and 10MB of size in different versions)"

So you've got the 10M version. From what google told me, Yahei is just a simplified chinese font set. So unless one's using chinese fonts, I'd guess using the 3MB version might be more rational.

Think I'll flash mine too (from Phil's Beta). The "no backlight joystick" and the "lockscreen-clock" alone might make it worth it.

Just gotta note down how to get to the language menu while it's in chinese. :o

Edit: Done.

- Bad thing: Pushing the joystick while keypad is locked DOES turn on the screen. Am I missing something? :confused:
- Font for latin is very small / thin. Tbh. I preferred the one from Phil's Beta. Guess I'll need to find out how to install another one.
- Avail. Storage: 18.98 MB Total Storage: 21.94 MB
- Boot time is about the same as with Phil's Beta.
- No issues flashing, sync'ing. Would've been nice if the standard language was english instead of chinese. Now I've got to find out what all settings I didn't enter on first boot.

So much for now. Let's see how it performs. :)

3MB and 10MB means the size of the font msyh.ttf. The smaller one (3MB) is a much shrinked version of MsYahei which is 14MB. So the small one can display simplified Chinsese but can't display Traditional Chinese perfectly. Traditional Chinese part (or most Traditional Chinese lettes) was removed to make more storage available. If you want traditional Chinese to be displayed perfectly you have to install the 10MB font version. But 10MB vs 3MB naturally results in smaller storage space. You can see size of the ROMs are different because of the size of the font implemented.

P.S. I think the 3MB version is enough for the guys who don't use Chinese or traditional Chinese.

Yep, that's what I figured out too. :)

- Good thing: While the joystick does turn on the screen while the keyboard is locked, the screen then only stays on for 7 seconds (and not the full standard non-locked-timeout length as defined by the user).

Btw. just noticed that there's a mxip_lang_ger.vol in Andot's rom. Isn't that used for german localisation...? Just curious how it got there for one thing's for sure: it doesn't work. Whenever I set my phone to use that localisation file (\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows - LangDbPath: mxip_lang_ger.vol) , I cannot access any settings windows afterwards.
