i'm using an r35 itech headset. has ad2p, you can change the headset to plug in more quality cans (uses a 3.5mm jack), there's a buzzer that can be enabled when a call comes through. take note, this is a clip-type headset. which means the "body" is clipped to my collar while there's a wire which leads to the earpiece. i like it because i don't have anything dangling in my ear all the time.
others like the jabra have features like caller id, a2dp, etc.
cheers

I have both Jabra BT8010 and i.Tech Clip D. I myself would recommend Jabra for using with Advantage.
I have a Jabra 8010 and now I like it. Initial results were poor but not because of the Jabra. The problems were regristery settings and I suspect they affected most blue tooth headsets.

I tried the Jabra for a while and still use it for stereo, but for everyday use, I'm back to my BlueAnt V12. The V12 has vibrate feature and shows incoming numbers (not names). It is working well for me. Keeps a good connection, great range, voice dial works reliably. I can hear people and they can hear me. That's the main things I want.
IMHO, the Jabra is better in theory than in practice. Biggest deal breaker for me was that all audio seemed to go to the headset, with no audible alarms or ringtones. Since I only put it on when I need it, this wasn't so great for me. It you wear it 20/7 (allowing four hours for sleep) I think it would be OK.

I'm using the simple HTC M100.
Everything goes OK. Only problem I got is because I have beard and when touch the microphone of the M100 they hear terrible noise in the other end.
Two solutions: a) Peel my face or b) Change to other headset that avoid the problem.
The HTC M100 is cheap and reliable anyway.

You use regular headphones by the 3.5 headphone jack often? How is the sound qualty of the X7500? Ive heard its pretty bad but Ive also heard it depends on what player you use? How do you connect a BT headset and a regular pair of headphones at the same time? Ive read so much info about the X7500 now so Im a bit confused :D

nope, i hardly plug anything in the 3.5 jack of my u1000. my bluetooth is turned on like 24 hours a day =)
what i do is my itech r35 is bonded with my u1000. the setting is only for hands free...meaning when a call comes in i then answer it using the r35. i have another bt headset: jabra...and i forgot the model...but basically it's the same as the r35 (interchangeable headsets). that unit is bonded to my u1000 for music. i leave the jabra in my car as it's connected to the car stereo. so, whenever i'm in the car i can then listen to my soundz anytime. when a call comes through, the music pauses. i then answer the call using my r35.
when i'm not in the car, i can set the r35 for both handsfree and stereo....if i want to listen to my tunez that is.
even if you have a headset bonded to your unit, you can still plug in a 3.5mm jack headphone. what happens is the music will be played. if there's a call, it goes through your bonded headset. the music will simply pause...once your call is done the music resumes. unless you set your headset for hands free AND a2dp stereo, plugging in a 3.5mm headphone will not be a problem.
sound is not bad at all. i mean we're not talking about having bang and olfusen quality here =) but the soundz coming out of my r35 or the jabra are quite good. coupled with the car speakers, there you go. i use the regular media player and i've installed the skin with large keys for easy control.
cheers and i hope that doesn't add to your confusion =)

Go for a Style-i !! Then in car use the headphones on it - works great, and you can use it to make callls during the day too when not in the car - and you dont look like a knob talking to yourself like you do with an earpiece on!

Can you recommend the best bluetooth headset for the HTC Advantage? Im getting confused with so many options out there. Jawbone, Jabra, Blueant? :(
My HTC is far more than simply a phone for me - it is an indispensable productivity component for my business. In particular, I'm addicted to Microsoft Voice Command - and use it heavily to announce my daily appointments and upcoming events. While the style-i seems quite compelling, I don't see it as a hands-free device. I need to look like a "knob" as I've trained myself to listen to announcements from my PDA such as "Meeting with Mr. Smith in 10 minutes" or "Mr. Smith calling on mobile" during face-to-face conversations while not going through all the fumbling, grabbing and excusing myself I would have to do without a hands free bluetooth device. For a busy person like me, the "whisper in the ear" aspect of hands free bluetooth is incredible - even if I do look like Lt. Uhura.
So, I need the following from my bluetooth device:
1) best sound possible
2) complete functionality with MS Voice Command
I have been using the Jawbone now for about two months and I am utterly, completely thrilled. Granted, it took some registry hacks to get the HTC to only accept voice input from the Jawbone and also to only output to the Jawbone (I am a user, not a developer) but it now works flawlessly. I cannot recommend it enough.
Many people complain that the buttons on the Jawbone are "mushy". I think the problem is that users simply take one of the stock earpieces and put on the Jawbone. I certainly did at first and found the volume too low, the Jawbone very uncomfortable and the buttons incredibly mushy. I then spent over an hour trying the different earpieces and earbuds provided, bending the earpiece I preferred until the earbud finally fit snugly and comfortably in my ear. Suddenly, the sound quality was fantastic (I had to turn down the volume - a first for me), I couldn't even feel the Jawbone and the buttons felt far more crisp.

I use it with a Sony Ericsson HBH 662. It has a small display for the number. I especially love the great sound. Works really well with voice dial. Even in the car.

I agree!! Style-i is fantastic... it does drop calls sometimes, but all you have to do is quickly go into Comm Manager, re-activate bluetooth and press the call button on the style I and you're back... takes seconds... and only happens to me once every couple of weeks if that!
It's crystal clear both ends, easy to use, and has a dial pad on the device! 9/10!

OK, after reading this I ordered a Jawbone. It's fantastic. I've spent ages already phoning myself while doing the vacuum cleaning.
Anyway, I was wondering if you have any pointers for:
1) Microsoft Voice Command - Is it necessary to purchase this or is it included in the ROM? And what version do you recommend
2) Registry settings needed to get VoiceCommand working as you described
Thanks for any help

I just bought a Sennheiser VMX 100 bluetooth headset for use with my Dopod U1000. A very good one in term of audio quality on both ends.
The problem is that it keeps disconnected after several calls. Anybody knows how to fix this?

Is there any chance that you could explain the registry hacks you used, and whether you have WM5 or WM6?
I am using PK3.0 ROM and can't get Voice Command to respond to the keypress of the BTHeadset, nor to announce through it.

For those who plan to buy Sennheiser VMX100, please reconsider as it seems like not compatible with Athena. Even it has good audio, but it just lack compatibility with Athena as it keeps disconnecting.

I should check my posts more often
I'm running WM6, downloaded from the HTC Europe website a few months ago.
Im running ROM 2.21.405.2 - also downloaded from HTC website.
I truly cannot remember the hacks but I found them on this site.

I too have the Tritton TRIBH102, this was an upgrade to my sony hbh-ds970 (which has crap sound quality!!!).
I use my B&O headphones with them so the sound quality is much better (still not managed to find where in the registry to increase bt audio play back!!!)
Overall I recommend the tritton but the down sides are:
control buttons less intuititive than sony
no vibrate
doesn't clip on to clothing (t-shirts) very well, falls off
I had purchased it on the understanding that it would display the caller name and number, it only shows the number
upsides
usb charging interface
oled
better battery life than sony
you can use decent quality headphones with it
firmware upgradable

Try going to www.trittonusa.com
I have used the Tritton for about 6 months now everyday and am satisfied with the basic functions and very good sound quality (coupled with Sony earphones). However, problems show up when trying to use it with any voice command software - it is just not intuitive and seems to get confused easily.
Connectivity is great however, again, it gets confused when trying to answer a call when music is playing on any software other than the HTC music manager. These are probably both issues with the BT stack and not the Tritton device.
Anyway, I have been able to still enjoy it since they are both minor issues but dont expect it to work perfectly out of the box - but that goes for any BT device.

I too have the same problem. for me it is a real pain as i listen to music a lot whilst travelling
Why would this be the bluetooth stack if it is not an issue for other BT headsets?
Having looked at both the tritton and omiz site I get the impression that the tritton unit is the rebrand. might be wrong though

I am currently using the Style I, I bought on ebay. Started having problems with incoming audio. When i get the volume where I can hear well, it has static. My voice, i'm told, is clear, as long as the athena is on my hip anyway. It just randomly disconnects and has t be reset, maybe twice a week, maybe once a day. If i get 10 feet from my device, all I hear is "you're breaking up." I'm sure most of these symptoms simply mean I got a lemon, but I chose to buy the used black 'bulk-bagged' option, shipped for $15.
I think i'll buy a blueant v12. The only thing I would change, based solely on a few reviews and threads, is a lock switch. I plan to carry it in my pocket or on the lanyard maybe, until i get a call obviously. Seems like it woUld be perfect for the athena. Vibrates in the pocket, see who's calling, decide to answer or ignore, execute, clip it on your ear, talk. I dn't see why you couldn't remove the clip and just hold it to your head while talking. The earbud might be awkward for this, but i'm always open-minded. It seems every bluetooth 'headset' is missing something, keeping it from being perfect for athena users. Style I has no vibrate, v12 has no lock. The range is also important for me, v12 is apparently great in this category. Any v12 owners use it this way? Any issues? Any feedback?

I use the Jabra 8010, and I was having bad static problems both on incoming and outgoing audio. I was using the stock WM6 ROM and the stock radio, v. 1.47. I recently upgraded the radio (see other threads on this forum to unlock and upgrade the radio) to v. 1.57 and all the static issues are gone. It sounds like I'm talking on a wired headset - first time in the 6 months I've owned it.
Everyone here posting problems, try upgrading the Athena's radio.

im using the v12 by blueant and its working really well. sound quality is very good and no problem with the caller id. Except for the fact that it only shows the number and not the name. Still trying to look if there is a way to make the name come out instead of the number in the screen when someone is calling.

I am using the Tritton TRIBH102 with my Advantage and it works very well. You can find it here:
Although I was happy with mine initially I have now decided that it is crap.
It only displays caller number for a couple of seconds and gets confused when you are listening to music, not allowing you to answer calls.
i also find that I have to keep turning the bluetooth off and on to pair the phone and unit. Sometimes this will result in the unit working with phone functions but not music...
Complete pain in the rear and replies from tritton customer services take in excess of a month.
I also get static if something, like my body, gets in the way.
None of the above were ever an issue with my previous sony ds970, shame that the sound quality was cack.
Still waiting for a firmware update to resolve the issues, might be easier to contact omiz instead, get the impression that they rather than tritton are the makers. Have no way of knowing though as both companies keep side stepping the question :(

All,
Of all of the headsets that I have owned, the plantronic's discovery series and especially the 665 works the best in normal use environments (including loudness, clarity, DSP works great in generally semi-noisey environments).
The other models in the discovery line work well, but they don't have the same quality of DSP as the 665 (IMHO).
The voyager line also has the 855, which is cool in that it has an attachment for stereo use and a boom extension for clearer voice calls, while I love the longer battery life and the stereo music replay, I still don't like it as much as the 665 series.
I have purchased Gennum's NxZen and it works great for noise cancelation, it is soo much better than the Jawbone in its ability to cancel external noise, it also has the stereo music adapter and a software based EQ. The ability to cancel noise during calls is superb, but the problem is that it always sounds like the quality of the call is being processed by Dolby NR, even when you don't need it. So if you are on a job site or if the wind is too powerful for the Jawbone, then the NxZen is perfect, but for those of you who like crystal clear / in person like phone calls, the NxZen seems to be a bit extreme and always has low quality voice calls. It may sound harsh, but the fact is that when all of the other headsets don't work at all, at least you can count on the NxGen to work just as bad as it was when you didn't need noise cancelation. Again its a bit harsh, since ALL of the other headsets will give up on you and the only thing that you can count on is that the NxZen will not give up, that it will continue to work, it will continue to allow you to hear clearly processed sound and you will be able to carry on with your business calls as you need to do without seeking a quieter place to communicate.
As for the Jawbone, you have to love the loudness, clarity and styling of the Jawbone, but if you plan to pocket it when it is not in use, then expect that sooner or later you will be breaking and replacing the retaining clip and then it will make it a bit more difficult to use, without holding your headset to your ear all the time. It is also without the stereo adapter that you can find in both the 855 and the NxZen. For normal users who don't pocket their headsets and who don't work in terribly normal environments the Jawbone is a champ. Take into account that it is also a bit heavier and bulkier than the 665.
The one headset that I hated was the Jabra JX10 (its been a while now, so I believe it was the series one edition). It didn't clear up any noise for me and it always seemed full of static on my athena with 1.47 and below radio stacks. It was the only headset that I ever took back to the place of purchase.
The other headsets that I started out with were the Motorola, but I couldn't find any of them that were loud enough or that had enough clarity. Or get this, I would hear the motorola's breaking up and loosing quality when I would swing my arms back and forth when walking down the street and talking on the phone. I have since sworn off using motorola products at all. I especially hated the bluetooth speakerphone that they sell, it was much worse than using the built-in speakers on the Athena to begin with.
I have used several other headsets and have multiple copies of each, but thought that the community would appreciate hearing about my experiences with these.
Other tools and utilities that help with M$ Voice Command were BTAudio and Bluecast, my personal preference was Bluecast and I hope that this information helps you all...
