sync problem

Just aquired my xda orbit having problems setting up sync, uninstalled active sync installed latest version so no old profiles but my pc doesn't even seem to recognise the device when connected with usb,i can send bluetooth files but sync doesn't work yet or i haven't got the com ports setup correct to work that way. HELP :confused:

well something happened, the computer crashed big style so i rebuilt and of course very few problems followed but with suggestions from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327504and all is well running through 2x usb extensions as well! over the moon :D :D
