I asked for SD-cards used for the flashing process. Since the X51v will only understand SD cards over 4 GB _after_ flashing, I think you didn't quit understand my question. But thanks anyway for the reply.
I don't think the over 4GB is true, as I use a Sandisk Ultra II 2GB card just fine with A03RTM. I also have a 1 GB CF card in the unit as well if that makes any difference.

I read your website and saw your excellent ROM. I especially like the native TrueVGA mode. I definitely hope that you continue Football's work and implement these features in the A05 (or whatever it will be.. whatever happened to A04?) ROM. Just please do it in English! :)

I just don't know what was in football A05, I guess the latest wm6 aku. I don't want to try to build a new wm6 En rom now, I will wait for wm6.1.

I could take over and continue the work on A05, I have asked some question to football, I hope he will come back to me.
You can see my work inspired from football here:
http://www.ppccool.com/index.php?showtopic=7670&hl=
I have built two WM6 A00 french rom for x51v, they have the same aku level like football, they have both the latest fix for x51v WM6 rom and they also come with registry optimization. The A00 core is close to A03 EN, and the A00 private comes with native trueVGA mode, TCPMP with youtube and subtitle support and other nice tool for the x51v.
One more time thank you football for your excellent work on x51v rom.
Hi there!
I do not speak French, and i am sure it will be terribily difficult to post here and there, HOWEVER, is it possible for you to even create an englsh "fullt:" translated version ?
I see ou are using the French version BUT some programs are in Englsh "help menu stats etc"
I do not know where to join anymore, seems like everybody has their own forum..........no rudeness meant, i had some myself one even with over 100k p[ost in 1 yr hyust BS'ing around.
Anyways, I think it is VITAL for you to do a dual language Section, s we can all band together.
I did not see Football responding to the donating offer at all which makes no sensse to me whatsever but okay so be it.
I do not know how you fininace yurself, not my viz...........
All I am interested in is to keep this from being sread over multipile boards/
I am sill stuck for example getting on any ne of my three own wireless networks "all different ip sets etc"
The secondary fix did not resolve this.
We need peple like you desperatly this is obvious.
So jhere is what I suggest, open a new thread out f curtesy to the owner here, if they are against the idea and do not make this a sticky, than please open a English sub Category on your board.

Just to let everyone know that I got one of these and works fine in my X51V with Football's A03 RTM! From what I've read, without WM6 this won't work at all on the X51V, so this is yet one more reason to thank Football for his work! :)

Like I mentioned before, if I ever build an English wm6 x51v ROM, it will be wm6.1. If I do so I'll open a thread @ xda. Right now the last level of x51v wm6 EN rom is aku .7, and it's the A03 built by football. I am not aware of what is in his A05.

Makuu, first off I just want to tell you that your the man (or woman) for being willing to pick up the torch and continue on footballs amazing work. I think a lot of people might forget that no one on this thread has to do anything, everyone who is programming or coming out with new versions are doing all of this on their own, with out the promise of compensation, and simply to help others. I'm not saying this happens often but for everyone who makes request, demands, or expresses concerns about something being released faster, I think we all need to remember that dell left us flat on our asses with out any updates, and without the wonderful selfless work of all these wonderful people we wouldn't even have a WM6 RTM A03. We shouldn't expect even a new release, and we all should just be extremely happy if one does happen to come out. I just wish I was a whole lot smarter when it came to programming so that I would be able to help with any new release, but I not so I try to help out as much with any questions on here or the other threads about X51V WM6 that I belong too. I am so glad that we do have an online community that we can go to where people can ask questions and get help (even if many of those people just need to read the previous threads to find out the answer to there question that has already been asked 1000 times) and I really appreciate all of you that are very good at helping, and for people who are a lot smarter than I am like Makuu and Football who are willing too do us all a favor and help us all improve our X51V for no other reason than they like helping people. Also football I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and I am very sad to see you go. Lastly I just wanted to say just remember that all this work is done out of the goodness of all these hard working peoples hearts so we non-programmers and people who are not helping out with the new ROMS are all just basically moochers, and we have no right to question, demand, or whine about anything that is or isn't going on with the new ROMS. I hope I'm not being misunderstood because this behavior doesn't happen much, and even when it does happen its most likely because a difference in native language, and just the fact that writing online is a very ineffective way to express our true meaning with what were really trying to say. All I'm trying to say is us as a community should try to just be grateful that we have great people that are willing to help us with our PDA and try our hardest to just be grateful and not needy.

Hi all,
Big thanks to Football and all other contributors to this Axim WM6 initiative.
Not sure how many of you are following the thread in relation to the development of a 'kitchen' (i.e. for cooking ROMs) for the Axim x51v
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343991
This will simplify the creation of ROMs for the x51v. currently the developer is testing based on Football's A03 rom and (maybe) he has some of footballs A05 work too.
Suggest that we keep an eye on this to see where it goes.

Yes they are two different sets of files one for the X51v and one for the X50v but actually Maglite is the one that developed the X50v ROM, but I think Football helped with it. If your looking for the WM6 release for X50v all you have to do is do a google search for "Maglite WM6 X50V" and you should find it right away.

I am posting this to confirm the SDHC support in the A03RTM Football ROM for the Dell Axim X51v. I recieved a 4 gigabyte SDHC card for Christmas, and I am able to utilize all 4 gigabytes (and believe me, thats just what I'm doing)!
Additionally, contrary to some rumers I have heard, I am still able to utilize my ordinary 1gig SD card. I think that these rumers may be in regards to the other SDHC solution that is making the rounds out there.
I hope this was useful to someone.

Hi,
installed WM6 A03, works like a charm, but I have one problem:
I use qmail (3.0.2 WM5/6) to synch my gmail over POP3 (because pocket outlook keeps deleting all my mails the next time I send/receive). However, it now says it failed to initialize SSL. Release notes say it uses openSSL 0.9.8g
Is this a WM6 problem, Qmail problem or just my problem?
Or does anyone have a solution for gmail with outlook?
In any case: great work!
Thanks

Iceman,
As rlarson mentioned, I too have been using A03-RTM since its release (and most of its predecessors, as well) and have not had any difficulty with the Contacts (or any other) button.
Not to insult you if you already know this, but button assignments are made in Settings/Personal/Buttons, but there is no way to assign a function to press-and-hold that is different than press-only (unless, of course there is a hack or utility out there that does this).

SPB Pocket Plus does this (lets you assign different functions to pressing and holding a button than to simply pressing the button quickly), and there are probably some freeware utilities that do this, too.

It's strange that the button does not work. (for my pda anyway)
I installed A03, SP1, and ALL of my programs before checking this button so I can't be sure of what is wrong.
Anyway:
I have a qtek 8310 with cooked rom. WM for SmartPhones lets you assign a different program if you press and hold the buttons of your device. All you have to do is make/edit some shortcuts. Maybe there is something for WM for PPC

In SP1 there are some files and registry keys from
Spb Software House (Pocket Plus)
Maybe this is what messed up my "contacts button" I will have a look and let you know
edit
I have just installed pocket plus and found out that a "destinator" .cab installer had altered the button settings.
Problem solved with pocket plus & re-assigning the button!

could someone help ??? I'm sure there's a simple solution somewhere ;)
Tried so far:

again ... everything is fine until I installed the SP1 cab.

I think what may have happened is that the shortcut to contacts was moved or deleted. For some reason the buttons point to the shortcuts for the startmenu rather than the actual .exe
1. Try assigning the button to a different program and then changing it back.

That link is for posting the fixes to the problems with A03, so I can take those files and manually apply them to the kitchen. If you read that thread, it states that as well... I only want to know what the problems are, and post the fixes to those problems. Some are still saying they are having issues with WiFi. I myself, have no problems... So maybe, it's a certain particular attribute in the WiFi settings that is borked, that maybe not all of us happen to use. That is what kind of stuff I need to know. And yes, it's probably posted in this very thread, but that link is a central location of those fixes, and those fixes only. And it will be closed as soon as I get them all, and kitchen is released... Then All bugs will need to go to the kitchen thread... Which I will closely monitor myself...

I understand completely, but I heard getting a mod to do anything here is close to impossible... You see, the main issue is, I post to like 5 diff forums. So when I release something, it's better to have one source for it, instead of having 5, or 6 diff bug threads to keep looking over... So that is the main reason...

Well, I've just about given up. Just thought I'd ask to see which SD cards people have had the most success with to update to A03 (or any firmware, for that matter). I've tried the 3 different cards that I have, and can't make any of them work. They are: 512 MB PNY, 1 GB PQI, and a 2 GB Kingston.
I've double checked and they are all formatted to FAT32, even tried it formatting both on a card reader and on the X51v (with Pocket Mechanic, as someone had mentioned in an earlier post) with all cards, then copied the required files to the root. I've also tried re-downloading from a different mirror, just in case I had a bad download and still no dice.
I find it hard to believe that 3 different cards from 3 different mfgs. would all be incompatible but hey, stranger things have happened. I'll go buy a new card (or 2) if it appears many people have had luck with it. Any other advice is certainly welcome. Ah, frustrations...

Yes. I have made a cab file to re-enable the encryption feature. The link below will take you to the post where the cab is attached. Not sure why it was disabled tho, so beware using the encryption. I'm not responsible if anything goes wrong.
After you install, but the device in standby mode for at least 20 seconds so it'll save the change. Then simply soft reset the device.
Ok, been told by Football that the encryption on his ROM has been known more than once to wipe out the SD/CF card of all of it's data. So I would not recommend using this at all!!! I'll leave it up just for knowledge, but I would not install it.

When I've had problems I found I had to re-format the SD card, then do as advised in the forum [as nellypageli says and so on], hold down the on/off & wireless power buttons and do the re-set.
Continue to hold down the two buttons after the re-set until [hopefully] you get the message about the re-format ...

Don't buy another SD card just yet.
I had already updated my ROM a couple times without problems.
Then unexpectedly on one of the ROMS, (don't remember which one),
the loader didn't see the file and I couldn't flash.
I knew for certain that my SD card worked for flashing since I had already
done it a number of times before.
After trying several times to get the file recognised I started to look at the
way the file was being copied to the SD card.
It finally worked after making changes to the copy process.
-----------
Now, here's the problem, I can't remember 'exactly' what I had to do to get
the file copied over but I believe that I ended up having to use
'ActiveSync' and change the 'convert to PPC format' setting.
NOTE: that was not needed for the previous ROMS.
So, I agree that it is unlikely that all of your SD cards don't work.
It may be that you have to be creative about how you get the
files onto your SD card.
I will look over my old records and see if I can find the details.

...found it
It was 'A03 Preview' and I had to use 'ActiveSync'.
Here is the note I made to myself:
===
I had to copy this image and CRC to the SD card using 'ActiveSync' with
the PPC in the cradle and connected to the PC by the USB cable!
Every other attempt at copying and the updater FAILED to either
recognize the image or the CRC file.
===
That's the only thing I can think of that might help.

I had similar problems flashing with WM6 A01 through A03 where the loader would not find the ROM. (If I recall correctly, I transfered the files using activesync.) I don't know why this worked, but I was always able to get the ROM and CRC recognized by renaming them to anything, then renaming them back to the standard naming scheme.
I used Total Commander as my file explorer, so I cant say if the standard File explorer works the same.

Hello, I'm new to this board.
I was doing a bit of searching to see if anyone got Mobile 6 on the X51v, and sure enough, Google pointed me here.
I've read through a great deal of the thread, but there are still a few questions I have.
1. Is the WiFi bug fixed? (Does WiFi work the same way as it did with WM5 now?)
2. Is WM6 noticeably faster or slower than WM5?
3. Does WM6 take up much more space than WM5?
4. Are there any huge bugs that make it not worth the upgrade?
5. Is WM6 a lot better than WM5?
I'm a pretty big geek, and my PDA is my baby. I have my X51v pretty pimped out, and I'd love to have WM6 if it's stable, but I'm really unsure as of now.
Thanks for your help!

I hope that this thread here which i subscribe to will be used to notify peple than Kitchen is ready.
Otherwise the WM6 wrks WAY better than any release thgat dell has ever made !!

I have had my X51V on WM6 A03 for almost 3 months now with no issues of any type including any WiFi issues. WM6 is more stable than the A12 from Dell and its at least twice as fast (IMHO).

Note: If I'm not mistaken, the Dell "Kitchen" is not a rom, it is a tool to build custom roms from OEM versions of the different parts that make up the built-in rom. Rom "cookers" have been using similar tools to customize the roms on other devices, then flashing their devices the way they want. This would allow one to say, leave out the Odessey WiFi tool, or include the latest Compact Framework, add a new item (like Q-menu) to the built in ROM. Think of the rom as the "meal", the the Window Mobile base OS and OEM software addins as the "ingredients", and of course the "kitchen" where you put it all together and "cook" it. I can't wait for the various "recipies" (build versions) that will pop up once this tool is finished.
Football actually tinkered with the core of the Dell rom, upgrading where he could (WM6) and adapting drivers from the wm5 where none existed for wm6. While it looks like Football will no longer be working on Dell roms, the Kitchen will allow us to build our own versions of the A03 rom, with any updates to built in app or drivers that may become available. Hopefully, there will be some great "chefs" out there who will be able to update the core to whatever the latest WM version is without us bricking our Axims.

Whoever includes ALL individual Fixes and outs it into a ROM, once verified by at least three people, I will host the ROM.
This Rapid share and oteher sites just isnt worth the wait or restrictions or missing links.
Once uploaded, I would leave the rom up there for 48 hours, i know this is a lot of downloads but i have to cut it at some point and than reopen.

Since I cannot replace ANY of the individual fixes, "access denied on PDA" i am waiting for a release that has it all included.

If possible, add Card export. Its a program that I think too many people use because its very usefull to transfer data betwen PPC and any PC with USB. But you need to be careful to take a version that works good with this version of windows mobile. If you post the link and I will test on my x51v

I followed the instructions and my Axim X51 is now flashed correctly and it asks me to do the hard reset. When I do that, it prompts me to press the "contacts" button and when i press it, it just turns off instead of rebooting. I tried to press all other buttons but the only one that reacts, is the "contacts" button and the "mail" button (cancel).
What to do? I tried to flash the rom 3 times and every time it says it's successfully but it just shuts off when pressing the "contacts" button after the hard reset.. I can only make it to start up in bootloader mode or hard reset mode - nothing else :(
Any one please help!

Get the flowControl Hack.reg here http://www.mediafire.com/?exni9wt1lgk just copy to the registry ...............!
Technology,
Can I use the BTSpeedSwitcher & registry hack with the BT stack in my 4PDA WM6 iPAQ hx2755? When I launch the BTSpeedSwitcher, I get a "Current Bluetooth Unknown". Is that what you see on your Axim? If I go ahead to set the speed to 921600kbps, will that affect the my device's BT function in anyway? Also, which registry key/value does it modify? Maybe I can try the hack by modifying the respective reg value/key & see if it works.
As for the above suggested reg hack, that is easy to achieve.
Thanks!

i disagree, the powerpoint program is extremely useful if you dont want to lug around a laptop. you can juse use the vga-out cable for the x51v and hook the axim up to a projector to do a presenation. its also helpful for rehearsing presenations

Point well made. But looking at the overall axim x51v community would you think more than 10 percent use PP ?
I stumbled across a post sometime somewhere (sorry, can't remember where) that claimed PP uses almost 50 percent of the total ROM capacity.
I would love to use this capacity otherwise.
I hope it will be optional once the kitchen is released. The present release is just the appetizer and I hope we will get chance to boil our own stew once the kitchen is released.

I agree with you. The main reason for me upgrading to the X51V years ago was the screen. In addition to the storeage of my data in ROM rather than RAM, the increased amount of memory, the CF and SD card slots and last its ability to be upgraded via ROM flashing. My perfect PDA other than having the latest OS since Dell abandoned its user base. Of course 'football' fixed that issue for the Dell user base.

You're lucky... I own x50v and x51v and thanks to Football and MagLite I put WM6 on both.:D
Well.. The x50v appears to be just a little bit snappier in opening/closing menu and programs due to XOR memory, but it still suffers the Filesys.exe 100% compaction issue... Programs execution performance instead is exactly the same...
They have same amount of RAM, same CPU and same 2700G chipset so beside the x51v have to load code from a bit slower NAND memory the execution speed is the same. I did many benchmark with PocketPC Mark, SKTools, Spb Benchmark, BenchGLES and GLBenchmark. So playing games or using you favorite programs is, once executables have been launched, the same experience on both x50v and x51v. In conclusion I can say that x51v is faster because it's better to wait 200-300 millisecs when wandering around menus and apps instead of having an unusable 100% CPU hog. Best thing for my is also that my x51v overclocks better than me x50v.
Cheers!

Been about 3 months since I blasted my x51v with football's awesome initial wm6 rom. I just upgraded to the latest and am very pleased to see WPA working. I'm also tickled to see live search working.
I'm having one small problem. Search engines haven't been able to solve the issue yet, though I think it's something small like a registry key or xml tag missing. In live search I'm unable to specify a storage size and location for the cache. I can't get the checkbox to stick for using a storage card for the cache. When I do check the box, the size options are all set to NONE. Anybody have live search working with a storage card based cache?

So if this kitchen could make it possible to force my powerpoint onto my memory cards wouldnt it stand to reason that their would be some way to just put all of WM6 except the boot loader on a memory card. I don't know very much at all about programming or PPC tech really so this question might by absurd, but all I know is I memory card space out the wazoo but too much of the operating system is on my devices internal memory and it makes it so I can't run Quake 3 on my X51V. I figure if there is an option to force most or even some of the operating system onto a fast memory card it would free up tons of internal memoryit might speed up our PDA's and I might actually be able to play Q3 on my pocket PC without having to pay $160 for a 128 RAM Upgrade.
Antineutrino
13th January 2008, 09:42 AM
Removing PowerPoint from internal ROM will be useless to run Q3CE because it needs at least 40 MB of RAM not ROM...The only way to go, beside the PPCTechs RAM upgrade, is to try to flash your device with the smallest Page Pool (1 MB not 0), disable ALL startup programs and today plugins, and run Oxios Hibernate to free up memory before launching Q3CE...

I'm waiting for the release of the kitchen to try some things like that... But btw I don't believe the X51v will be able to run Q3CE :( months ago I tried everything to make it run... and I achieved the goal. But I was using not the latest version, and it took 40 minutes to start... the device was very hot (OC 728 MHz). So no one has ever been able to get Q3CE to run consistantly on a X51v w/o the $160 RAM upgrade? I find it hard to believe that the X50v can run it just fine but there is no way to get it's upgrade the X51v to run it smoothly. I know they both have diffrent kind of RAM but their gotta be somthing you can do with pool size or a way to make a new WM6 ROM with the kitchen that allows you to have atleast 40 mb of RAM open. I know this is a little off topic (lol this whole thread has started to get a little off topic with all this new talk of the kitchen) but I've unsucessfully been trying to get Quake 3 to run on my PDA since the day I got it (like 2 years now). I don't %100 understand the hex pagepool editing thing and have yet to find a good tutorial on how to do it. So if sombody knows how I can free up 40 mb of RAM so I might be able to play it I would really appreciate it if you could tell me how, or even if you could just send me a url on a tutorial on how, that would be great. I really don't want to upgrade to the 128 mg of RAM untill my 3 year warenty is up since it would void my warenty and I would loose the upgrade if anything ever happened to my PDA (I've already had to replace it twice, thank God for the warenty).

I have 1 and 1/2 remaining issues.
1) I need to enter the name for my hidden network plus the password required for the encoded network. This is done in the settings screen of the WM6 WIFI tool. After entering my data and clicking OK to accept the changes the settings screen hangs and does not terminate. It also blocks the right portion of the title bar (clock, loudspeaker, ...). I have to go to Settings/system/memory/running programs to force terminate the window. Not to bad once you know what to do.
1/2) WIFI looses the encoding parameters sometimes (every 3 weeks?) and needs to be re programed. Having WiFi plus BT enabled and the BT program crashing seems to aggravate the issue but I would not call that a WM6 FE related issue. ;)

Here is a step-by-step video tutorial on updating you'r AXIM X51V from WM5 to WM6 mayby if we can post this video as a sticky it'll stop alot of questions from being asked over and over again.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=vEDvCklrNs0
This video is my first attempt at making a how/to guide so please don't be too critical. This guide is my attempt of showing a comprehensive explanation on how to update your PDA's and give you a step by step guide on what you need and what to do. I only have a X51V so this video is mostly about that, but to my knowledge updating the X50V is not MUCH different so this might help those of you who are stuck with that as well. JUST SO YOU KNOW THIS VIDEO IS NO EXCUSE TO BE LAZY. DO NOT UPDATE YOU'R PDA IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING, DO NOT UPDATE YOUR PDA WITHOUT DOING ALL OF YOUR RESEARCH WHICH MEAN MAKING SURE YOU READ ALL OF YOUR RESPECTIVE FORUMS FROM BEGINNING TO END, AND DO NOT UPDATE YOUR PDA IF YOU DONT WANT TO VOID YOUR WARRENTLY. This update is a great update to your PDA's but I don't know everything there is so PLEASE do your research before doing this update. JUST A REMINDER: DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU DO THIS UPDATE AND I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BRICKED OR BROKEN PDA'S

Greetings ;)
Edit: this problem has been solved, this post is here to help others with similar issues.
Original post:
I need help from someone who has not yet started Word Mobile on the WM6 Football Edition to track down a bug in the WM6 Rom.
Could you please start Word Mobile (first start ever after flashing the Rom) and post the time it takes to start Word Mobile. I expect app. 2 Minutes. This time will be much shorter for the second start (typically 2-3 Seconds).
Please send me your times and if you could please mention that (to the best of your knowledge ;) ) the times are for the very first start of Word Mobile.
I hardly ever use Word Mobile and do not know how it would typically behave under this conditions. Please start Word Mobile and let us know your findings. Your help is much appreciated.
BTW Yes, I could flash back and forth between the Roms to find this out myself, but I hope to avoid the work. ;)
Solution:
I received a few posts that helped me (to my own embarrassment :o ) to sort out this issue.
Considering these replies I found the culprit. I had a large CF card in the device that I did not remove for the flashing procedure. The card has minimum one directory with more than 300 html files. Word Mobile digests all these files (for the all folders options in the file select menu) and "hangs" for a long time. I can repeat the slow start condition by selecting this folder in the file open dialog.

I did not have any of the issues you are describing after my upgrade to ROM WM6 A03. I have had no issues during the past three plus months now. I would suggest doing another ROM upgrade to make sure no issues are there. If they continue after that there may be something wrong with your unit.

This happened to me and I found the solution somewhere. The problem is that somehow your ROM flashing didn't finish successfully. The cure is to put it in the cradle and perform a ROM flash back to Dell's version A12 using the .exe file that you run on your desktop. Once that successfully completes, you're back with an Axim that has been effectively hard reset. Now try the SD loader for WM6 again, carefully following the instructions you can find a few posts up in this thread (there's even a YouTube video on it)!

I have a Next-G mobile phone that I would like to setup with my axim, via Bluetooth, to connect to the internet. Has anyone had success doing this with any type of mobile phone? If so could you explain how to go about it? I have both devices recognising each other and the axim recognises a DUN and a Serial Port service on the phone, but where to go from here I don't know...

I was crushed when Dell dropped the x51v. I think it was darn close to perfect. I'd been through the same thing with Toshiba and the very very good e750.
Football; I just got this loaded and will live with it a while to make sure it is reasonably stable and I can do the stuff I need to do. But you certainly deserve some compensation. (Microsoft does too...hope there is a legit way to work that out). Dell should give you big bux for having done this, and then give you even more to continue perfecting it.
How do you/to whom does one do the Paypal thing?
Thanks also to Drakey for the very helpful installation video and whoever correctly posted that you have to hold down POWER, WIFI, and RESET simultaneously and release only RESET to actually get the bootloader to show.

I was wondering if anyone have already tried to flash x51v with a smallest PagePool. The question is how does an executable bigger (E. g. 4 MB exe with 2 MB Page Pool) than the available Page Pool will work?
As soon as I put my hands in the release of the kitchen Iīll do some tests to figure out the Pagepool size that is better, and post a comparative chart of each: 12, 8, 6, 5, 4, 2 MB pagepool. Today Iīll try to dump and edit the FE WM6-RTM rom, but iīm not sure that I am clever enough to find the right place to edit
Could I have some help?
BTW I read somewhere that you can actually reduce the pagepool to have 36 megs free, and then, q3ce1.1b will run... Iīll try when I have time to convert all the textures again and IF I make a 4mb pagepool rom...

In this thread and in the WM6 x50v thread it has been extensively advised that if you don't own the "VGA" version of the Axim you should not try this ROM as it would indeed brick your device, anyways I read a while ago a post from someone that tried to flash his x51 with this ROM and sure enough it didn't work, but the device was NOT bricked.
In your case I think it's the end dude, if you can't get to the bootloader there's nothing else you can do. Please confirm if you can get to the bootloader, it doesn't matter if the device won't turn on, just follow the same steps you took to flash your device and check if the blank screen appears, if it does try to find a good x51 ROM on the web (I'm not aware of any, but you might be lucky). If you can't get to the bootloader, well, you just got yourself a very expensive paper weight :(

I have an x50v and I have been playing cooking rom for it. I have issues with wifi, I don't know why this problem happens. This problem is fixed on my x51v rom. It could be that it's related to odyssey client. It's available in x51v rom but it has been removed on maglite x50v rom. Try to contact maglite to get his idea on this problem. I'm going to have to agree with Makuu. I believe the same thing has happened to me on the X51v when I remove Odyssey. It's prob just one file that is being removed that is needed for the WiFi. Even though the only files being removed are all for Odyssey, there must be one that is used all the time whether you actually use Odyssey or not. I had an even worse issue pop up when I tried to use the newest version of Odyssey on the X51v ROM. Not only did WiFi have a lil trouble directly after a hard reset, but ActiveSync wouldn't work unless you disabled Advanced USB Mode. So, I'll try to get with MagLite, and "cook" a new ROM for the X50v peeps. I'll be making a new thread under my X50v forum on my site here shortly...

I have been trying to port my french WM6 x51v rom to the x50v. I have stopped this project because of the issues I have with wifi. The WM6 x50v rom is not a full wm6 rom Maglite has removed a lot of things because the x50v rom image is not big enought to contain a complete rom. I guess he choose to remove odyssey because there was nothing other left he could remove. He had already removed MSN live and transcriber. The x51v rom i've built have both odyssey and MSN live plus other extra software and trueVGA in the private version. I also have a core version with everything including transcriber.

What is that supposed to mean makuu? Maglite's WM6 is a full ROM (full WM6) - it has nothing to do with how many applications his ROM comes with. (the x50v rom image IS big enough to contain a complete ROM the same way the x51v is; i don't get what you are trying to say here.) Maglite's WM5 Aku 3.5.2 had lots of applications in it. And now, as much as i can remember, Maglite got rid of the transcriber, Data Backup and Windows Live because he doesn't use it, and so gave an option for others to install what they want such as alternatives to those applications. The point is to make Rom as light and fast as possible. (i do, however, use those programs, so it's annoying to reinstall them back after hard reset). Football also removed transcriber as far as i know in his ROM. And the problem with Odessey client, now that it come s to me, i believe was the problem it caused with notification in WM5 or something like that. Correct me if i'm wrong Makuu, but i'm quite certain that this is the case.:)

The best person to ask why the x50v Maglite wm6 rom was built this way is Maglite himself.
Why Football didn't put transcriber and MSN live, I don't know either.
All I know is the following: If you make a diff between the content of the WM6 x50v (maglite edition) and x51v (football edition) rom you will see that the x50v rom misses some of the OS files, especially I noticed that some of the WMP files are missing (however I don't know if the files are mandatory for the x50v). You can check that by yourself and you will see what I'm talking about). The real size of the nb0 for the x50V is 34560 Ko, while the x51v nb0 is 40960 Ko.
It's impossible to fit a WM6 classic rom and OEM in the x50v nb0. You have to remove at least transcriber, Odyssey and other system dlls. I know what I am talking about because like I told you I built some rom for the x50v, and this is the only way to have them boot on the device.
Because the nb0 is bigger on the x51v, it' possible to have a complete WM6 classic rom for itself, I have built one with transcriber and with MSN live, I named it core. I built another one removing some of the un-necessary files that comes with WM6 classic (like some tsk, jpg and helpfiles) and removing transcriber, the home & data backup applications. To add wirelespower, x51v mix, tcpmp & youtube pluggin and ozVGA plus dlls.

What is it that you are using upx? I understand that you can compress dll or exe but can you compress a module? I am waiting your kitchen. I tried to check your rom it doesn't seems to be correctly handled when I tried to open it with bepe's tool. I will give it a try by flashing my device.Yeah, I think "compression" that lennysh referring is upx. But he may forget to use the -9 option as I was able to squeezed the same file to 800k (818,224 byte) w/ this option set. But upx may not work perfectly sometimes, so any program got upxed must tested carefully.

So I think i may have bricked my Axim. Its a X51, not an X51v, and I flashed it with this ROM and now it will not turn on. Can anyone tell me if it is completely useless now? The flash was successful and I did not lose power during it. After the flash it just would not power on.
Thanks in advance,

I didn't really read this tutorial to well and I really dont know what your specifically dealing with but maybe this link will help and hopefully if you do ever unbrick your PDA you'll do a little more research before you decide to do somthing as technical as reflashing your ROM

My point is, why can't someone do the same for Dell's 2405FPW 24" LCD monitor to make it accept SDHC?

I noticed a driver file in \windows (a ROM file) that says pxa27x_sdhc.dll or something like that. I wonder if that were copied over to a WM5 machine whether SDHC would then work?

Couldn't get the point... I don't have a monitor like that but I think itīs a simple card reader on the side, isn't it? If this is the case maybe the reader part could be a not flash able one, and the software that controls it is working in the real pc. The Axim has no such problems, so is possible to deal with the hardware deeply when upgrade the OS.
Your easy solution is buy a new card reader for $10 bucks on ebay :p

Hi everyone! New member on the forum here. I just got done updating my Axim X51v to Footballs WM6 A03 edition. My question is about applying the Wi-Fi WPA-PSK(TKIP) fix. I got the .dll file but can't seem to find the /windows directory on the Axim using the file explorer through Sync center. (I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate) Can anyone help me out how to find this directory so I can put the .dll in there. Everything seems great so far except the wireless. To be fair I was having trouble getting it to pick up before on WM5 A12 rom. I'm using a Netgear WGT624 V3 router.

I got it working... thanks to Football for his awesome ROM and Mamiware for his wifi cab file. I have never been able to get the wifi to work till now. I had almost considered selling my Axim (having given up on Dell to put out WM6 for it). Now I am more excited to have this thing than ever before! It works so much better! Hi, Lennysh (and anyone else) -- I'm a little confused about the status of Lennysh's hot new ROM? Is it available to the public yet? I'm seeing things that imply that it is, but I've followed all the links that have been posted and can't find anywhere to download it.
Lennysh's "list of released ROMs" says:
"LennySh Football AximX51v WM6 ROM #1 (Public)
This is my first Publicly Released Rom. Please comment on it, and let me know how it is!!"
But I don't see a link! Am I missing something obvious?

Been reading that thread for the kitchen. No thanks, I'll wait til it's more refined. Football A03 is still da best.
For example--
The kitchen ROM has Adobe Reader in it. Don't want to burst your enthusiasm but a 2.3MB QVGA program on main memory is bloatware IMO.

Football is no longer working on Axim ROMs, but someone else (search for lennysh) is working on a kitchen, which will allow you to cook your own ROMs (and he has a ROM built using that kitchen which people can try out).

The ROM upgrades that are not from Dell are for the X50V and the X51V only. Using these ROMS to do an upgrade of the OS on any other Axim unit will turn it into nothing more than a brick.

You got the point. I just wish Dell designed things a littlle bit better so a simple firmware upgrade takes care of SDHC compatibility. Other than that, apparently, there's no change in hardware for that to happen. My issue is that want to keep the toys on my PC desk as uncluttered as possible, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do...

Hey, Lennysh, so any progress yet on WM6.1 for x50v? Supposedly, WM6.1 should bring better stability and speeds. I know it comes with junk like threaded sms, or getting started guide (both - waste of memory), but it also comes with beautifull new IEMobile with "zoom out" function. I actually installed the new PIE on an Axim, and "zoom out" works great, but is kind of slow. To speed things up, i installed IE scroll fix, but now "zoom out" is screwed up. Don't know why???
But again i'm totally fine if you are not planning on making a new ROM; i just want that WIFI bug to be fixed (the one that has to do with Odessey Client missing).

First read this thread completely since it contains what you are asking in several places. Second, reread this thread again and copy those instructions onto a piece of paper. Third, follow those instructions to the letter. ALSO NOTE if you do not have a X51V or X50V the ROM upgrades listed on this site if applied to your unit will turn it into a brick and an unusable brick at that. :)

The High Resolution gets way to tiny for even my bifocals and with text set to large. There needs to be more selections for text size or its worthless IMHO.

Makuu, the high resolution mode in WM6.1 IEM is there it's just that you don't need to select, but it is rather set automatically for VGA devices. The problem is that WM6.1 IE without IE scroll fix is very slow. So that's why i will stay with the older version of IEM. As for zoom, speed, ets, i will wait for the hacked version of Opera Mobile 9.5 (it will blow safari mobile to mars). Skyfire sucks, as it is server-based (i just recognized), doesn't support currently VGA at all, and only designed for phones. I tried NetFront 3.5 Concept version, and this version has some really cool visual bookmarks, iphone interface, but is slower than safari mobile, and is just a trial version ending May 08. Opera Mobile 9.5 is perfect if i can find a way to get it for free.
Otherwise, Makuu, do you have any solution yet for the WIFI bug regarding Odessey Client being removed in Maglite's ROM???

Are you sure about this? When I try WM6.1, it's not in high res. I did compare the result with two different VGA device. I did the try on a WM6.1 rom that I am building, so I could double check by only installing the WM6.1 PIE on a WM6 rom, could you explain how you did that?
I don't want to waste my time with x50v rom, it's a hell more difficult to build than the x51v one. If you can know what Maglite has done to activate wifi on it's rom let me know and I try to give it a second try. (I have MP Maglite already but didn't get any response).

Makuu,
well, of course, i wouldn't know what maglite has done to activate wifi in the ROM, but there is a folder in Program Files in file explorer called Funk software, Odessey client, and while the folder looks empty, it is definately there for a reason. And i definately do agree that it is Odessey Client that is causing those problems, since first time i noticed that wifi bug was in WM6 A01 (the first Rom to remove Odessey Client). Also, makuu, keep in mind that this wifi bug (where you turn on wifi, but then you need to turn off and on again your device to start peaking up the signal) only happens after a soft reset. It works ok under other conditions. So i think it might have to do something with start up. According to aximsite, when Odessey Client was installed, there was "odClientCeAutoLaunchSmart.exe" in windows/startup folder. However, i don't know exactly if this is what causing the problem. (if it was that simple, Maglite would have already left it there.)
Maybe, the easiest thing, Makuu, would be for me to install the whole Odyssey Client (the version that came with my x50v), since x51v has it anyways. However, i can't be sure if it will safely install on my device. (i have a lot of programs installed on my device, and don't want to screw up my device right now). So, Makuu, if you have x50v running latest A03 beta, could you be kind enough to try to install Odessey Client on your device, and then report the outcome. Also, could you post me that Odessey Client cab that came with my device, since i searched for it and couldn't find it anywhere????

If I use the Pagepool editor to increase the pagepool size from 8 to say 12MB or 16MB will that make the ROM run any faster/increase stability or will it have a debilitating effect on performance/stability?
And how does increasing pagepool size differ from the hacks provided by sktools/tweaks2k2 that allow you to increase font cache/font glyph cache size?
FYI: I've got the 128 MB RAM upgrade from Pocketpctechs; So I can afford to sacrifice some free RAM for increased pagepool size if it'll help.

Like I told you it's not very easy to build a x50V rom. I cannot put the Odyssey client back because first there is not enough room in the rom for it, and second Maglilte already removed all registry refence to Odyssey. The odyssey client is part of the original rom (not from any CD). I don't want to waste my time playing with the rom, I did spent much time already. So unless I can have some guidance from Maglite, I don't want to try more about this (for the moment).
About WM6.1 IEM, I tried from the file you mentioned but I have the same problem, It's not VGA high res. So it's really lousy for a VGA device.

Thanks for the reply (through not exactly what i wanted to hear). But yeah i quess i was wrong about thinking that i can install Odessey Client back on my x50v just like any other application (like transcriber) using a simple cab. I'm not talking about putting it back as part of a ROM, due to limited space. But i do remember reading somewhere at the very end of "Dell Axim x50v WM6 A01" thread that Maglite was intending to put up a cab for Oddesey Client for those who needed it, but he never did. Anyhow, if you are saying that he removed all registry reference to Odyssey, putting it back probably wouldn't even fix the wifi bug. It was still a good try though.:)

I have already investigated this way but even though, I cannot have wifi working. You can try to do it by yourself and I would lead you into this if you think you want to try your own cooking.

I would try the upgrade again. I have had it on my unit for over 4 months now with no issues. Your problem could be a hardware issue and that would not be resolved with a ROM upgrade.

The name of the application is 'Pointui'. I tried it for a bit on my X51V with WM6 A03 Lennys upgrade and it does work. Do a google search and you should find it. Just be aware that it did not uninstall when I wanted to get ride of it. I have to do a restore of my OS from an earlier backup.

? I used "search thread" and couldn't find (e., Lenny, Lennys) this here. What post# is this "upgrade on?"
So far the closest "upgrade" I have is the SP1 patch from many posts ago...

Guys, this is my first post, and i bring a issue that might help a lot of people from my country.
Sinse i am from Brazil, my Axim comes with Portuguese Language installed, and i can't upgrade to Football ROM cause there is allways a message saying that there is no compatible room. I guess that is happing just cause of this language difference. Is there any way i can "modify" the room soo it would be recognized as a Brazilian Portuguese?
If there is an Hex editor and the language is registred somewhere in the ROM, it would be possible to be changed? The code language for Brazilian Portuguese is BRP.
Thanks.
Edit: by the way, i got an Axim x50v, and as far as i could read this huge post, i saw that this ROM is compatible with my device.

Lenny's ROM has some bloatware on it. It seems to be the result of testing his kitchen to make sure it works. It has all the fixes for footballs ROM preinstalled. It also has a smaller pagepool (do some searching to find out about this, I only have a basic understanding myself). I would say that each has it's benifits and weaknesses, but when the kitchen is ready, I will construct the uber-ROM and rule them all!

First, thanks to football and lenny for the rom. I've just updated to Lenny's WM6 rom, but didn't really notice the increase in speed like others have said in this thread, maybe I'm not using it for anything heavy (!?!). Anyway, what other advantages of running this WM6 rom? Is it more stable than WM5? better memory management?

The increase in speed over the original 'Football' I found to be in the Calendar applications speed to go from day to day. I have almost 6000 entries going back to 1999.

You should not have bothered the mighty magicians that are guarding this thread with your desire for knowledge. I know how hard it is to acquire the required powers but thou shalt not falter in your quest. I will reveal a secret part of my powers to you to guide you in your endeavor.;)
Open your eyes and start reading the text that you see on the screen in front of you. If the information that you desire is not visible on the screen use the tiny magic up/down arrows on the far right side of the screen to magically reveal more information.
If this does not help there is even more information available in this thread... ... ...I think ... ... YES, I will disclose a seemingly little known secret to you and hope I do not get in trouble with the other magicians who are fiercely guarding the information in this thread. Listen closely my apprentice: If you use the magic up arrow that you have learned to use in our last exercise you will be able to reveal tiny numbers above this scroll. These are the magic information provider numbers. Click on any of the numbers and more information will be provided to you.
If all this does not help I am almost at the end of my vast magical knowledge but here is one last advice my beloved apprentice... Try to search this thread for the name of the great sorcerer "lenny". The 5th hit will be what you are looking for (and it teaches you how to search a thread).
But beware, if more people keep asking this question over and over again it will become the 5th, 6th, ... hit in the search. This is a magic that is not under my control and I fear the valuable information I have provided for you will vanish more and more. :o
Now with regards to other question you might have: try to click on the link (the blue underlined text) that you found in the search described above. This will transport you (using some internet magic that I will not explain in detail) to an internet page that is related to the search that you performed during your mighty quest. IMHO both ROMS Lenny has published are an improvement over 'footballs' original ROM posting, which says alot. 'football' was the originator of the WM6 ROM postings and it was a great speed increase over the last Dell A12 release. Lenny just picked up the ball (no pun intended) and improved on what 'football' did. Both have helped out the X50V and X51V user community greatly and all should give them a thank you for giving life back to our units. As for me I was ready to put out $450 for the new HP 211 when it was released but with any of these three ROM upgrades my existing unit matches up with the HP 211 (IMHO of course). Lennys first ROM release contains some extra applications which you may or may not want. His second release has them removed. For me I prefer his first release as almost all of those applications he included I had installed onto 'footballs' release.

I'm no magician, but I successfully did this a couple of days ago.
Do you have both files in the root of the SD card?
Are they named correctly (DiAd_K_AximX51v_WM6_A03EN.nb0 and DiAd_K_AximX51v_WM6_A03EN_nb0.crc)?
Are you sure it's FAT32 formatted?
Are you holding the WiFi and power buttons, then poking reset, then continuing to hold WiFi and power until the display lights up?
Some people have reported some cards just don't work for this (perhaps I got lucky, the first card I tried worked).

please help me on this:
a friend just gave me his X51v , which he bricked using a JASJAM ROM upgrade.
his initial thought was , it's finished . however ,when i plugged to power in , and used reset + power , a screen appears , which shows the famous windows 3.1 window , asking if i want to reset to factory settings or cancel. i gather , this means the device is not totally bricked , yet.
so i tried to reflash it with RTM wm6 . i couldn't . here http://www.aximsite.com/boards/x50-x51-forums/112012-tutorial-long-awaited-solution-how-use-sd-image-loader-flashing.html
it said that i shall copy 2 files , including the CRC file into a SD card , which i did ,and push wifi+power+reset . but nothing happens , it just goes back to the window which asks whether i want to restore factory settings.
so my guess is , there is still bootloader on device , but it's incompatible with ROM image i'm trying .
could somebody tell me , if there is a way to directly flash the device with this ROM , or should i first install an official ROM image , using the same method , and then upgrade?
also , if bootloader is damaged indeed , where can i find a good one to replace?
cheers

I've searched, but I can't find a clear answer.
I have an x51v.
If I update to WM6, with the ROM linked to in this thread, are all my programs currently working on my x51v (WM5) expected to continue working?
In one post, I read the WM6 ROM is actually "a stripped down version".
I have a lot of programs like iSilo, epocrates, style tap, Johns Hopkins Antibiotic Guide, Skyscape .... are all these programs expected to work with the new ROM?
(I've searched this forum for the above programs, but nothing comes up)
(I realize specific answers for each program may not be possible: but is it "expected" that the programs will work?)

By "stripped down" what is meant is that some of the usual apps that come along with the ROM (ie. what you'd see after a hard reset) are removed. Such as perhaps Powerpoint, Explorer etc leaving more space for other apps for you to load. I haven't seen anyone complain about apps that ran under WM5 not running under this (Football-derived) ROM. The only issues some have had at various times with other WM6 ROMS is with WiFi and security setting (but not this one, I believe).

The only thing that I have found so far is that some of the purchased programs required new keys. All software vendors have complied with free keys to upgrade the software to WM6. The only difference that I have noticed is that all my programs are now much more reliable.
