I got this one: http://www.pdashop.nl/product/41080/45045/3327/veripart-standard-headset-converter-htc-extusb.html dunno where to get that outside of Netherlands but they gotta have it somewhere...
I aspecially like the very short plug and the very flexible short wire; there 's hardly no chance of breaking this because off too much strain on the plug :)

The best one I have is the one I made by taking a TyTN's headset with nice angle connector, chopping it off and modifying it as per Matt and Tracy's Blog;

I can second this one; Got it originally for my Hermes and it also fits the Kaiser. It's compact, has 3.5mm jack AND Mini USB connector.

I like this one
http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productdetail.asp?productid=22740
The right angle the cable takes easies my fears of straining the miniUSB port and weaking/loosening the contacts. I don't like the longer, straight-out USB connections on other headphone adapters. Although RemE's Semsons combo miniUSB/3.5mm adapter is pretty cool. I probably would have gotten that if I had known about it earlier.

right angle with a stereo plug/jack make sense ... because when you turn/twist ... the round plug would rotate ... less stress ..etc
but with a mimiUSB/extUSB ... IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE AT ALL !
when you turn/twist ... that rectangular connection would just twist/turn ... the damage would be the same whether it is right angled or not ..
:)

Except a right angled plug takes stress off the plug because it moves tword your head, as opposed to straight, unless you have the kaiser upside down. If its sideways in the holster, instead of pointing out it points up

I prefer the angle for watching video in landscape mode, the cord goes straight down.
I think it also has less damaging "leverage" on the connector of the phone, I'm less worried about twisting, it's bending I worry about, simply my opinion.

This is just wire, no active circuitry, there is no effect on sound.

This is just wire, no active circuitry, there is no effect on sound.
Technically there has to be an effect on the sound as you have just introduced a connector which has impedance . Whether you can hear the difference is another matter. If the connector is a really, really cheap one then you may be able to hear.
RemE
6th October 2007, 09:01 PM
Yah, whatever. Technically the "impedance" of a 1-6 inch piece of wire ain't much, far less than fraction of an ohm which is mouse nuts compared to the impedance of the ear buds speakers, so I'll go with "makes no difference". Quibble away...

Hi,
I was hoping for a little advice from someone who has the Vario III. I am on T-mobile in the Uk and I am currently thinking of getting shut of my N95 and getting one of these. I primarily want a smartphone that has good music playback facilites as well as a good web browsing phone. The N95 can play Mp3's through headphones but the quality is noticebally not as good as on my Ipod.
Is the Vario III a good music player , it seems to have a high spec in all other areas. Also do you use the built in MP3 player or is there a better third party app that can play them. What's the battery life like when just playing back music and what is currently the largest memory card it takes.
Lastly, am I right in assuming the Vario III is the same as the Kaiser? Is it just rebranding?
Thanks for any help!

I tried to use my wife's USB-headphone jack Motorola converter on my 8925 tonight and it didn't work. Could it be the motorola branded converter?
What are most people in the US using for the Kaiser that is actually working?
Are there any settings I need to change? Both ATT and HTC ROMS work using these converters right?

No, the Motorola "audio through Mini-USB" pinout is completely different from the HTC ExtUSB pinout.
You need an adapter meant for an HTC device.

This is nice, but I have issues when answering calls. First, both my headphones and phone rings when there is an incoming call. Is there a way to make it ring only in my headphones? Second, I can hear the caller but the caller can't hear me. I guess the phone is assuming that I'm using a handsfree set through the USB, when I'm only listening to music with regular headphones.
Any solutions?

it may be alot for a remote control, but next time you buy a phone, it's cheaper than most places, at least the phone is the same prices as retail stores and the shipping cost is not marked up, like most online like to do.

Beware, I also bought one from Hong Kong off ebay.
When listening to music/audio, only some of the audio data plays in the left ear (it's not a problem with my headphones), so everything sounds lop-sided.
I bet most of the products are ok, but quality control probably isn't that great and I got a defective one. Sending it back to Hong Kong for a replacement (an option from the seller) and paying for shipping both ways makes the overall cost not worth it.
YMMV.

Compusa had nothing at all. They offered me a pretty nice, but expensive ($130), bluetooth stereo headset that wraps around the back of your head (made by motorola). It has standard earbuds so it doesn't look like you have these large things over your ears which has made me stop using my current bluetooth headset...
Best Buy was close...they had 2.5mm/3.5mm adapters for several kinds of phones but nothing for mini-usb. They had a mini-usb stereo headset for $30 ("for motorola phones") but they looked cheap and I doubt the quality would have been that good.

The rubber of the cable has lost the connection with the connector and the copper is now visible. I've temporarily fixed it with a glue pistol. The mic is also bad.
I need a 3.5mm headset with adapter (withouth headphones) because I want to use them with my Etymotic Research ER4P headphones. Gold plated connectors would certainly be a nice addon.

The first one is retractable and according to the miniature image both the HTC and 3.5mm connector are not gold plated but according to the big picture it is? I don't understand which is correct. Could anyone enlighten me?
The second one is a very short model and this is what bothers me. I have my phone hanging around my neck and this would result in a mic hanging to low. The good side is that both the miniature and normal picture matches each other.
Has anyone tried any of these models?

Ok, thanks for the info. Do you know if the first one allows charging and data transfer at the same time when answering/making calls or listening to music?

Weird, it worked ok for about 5 hours then it started sending "answer button" signals to the phone in different manners. Now the phone is making calls all by itself and It's very annoying. The answer button is responding to my input though. I think it happened after I unplugged the usb cable connected to the computer while listening to music. This doesn't not happen with my old headset. What could it be? short, humidity? It seemed like it was of much better quality than the one I had before and It's sad if it has to end like this.
edit: I remember that at one time the headset was completely dead.
edit2:
It works fine now except a low whining sound in the background when charging and listening to music.

A bit of warning on this adapter: http://cgi.ebay.com/2in1-USB-Adapter-MIC-for-HTC-TYTN-II-VARIO-III-V1615_W0QQitemZ200165910257QQcmdZViewItem?hash=ite m200165910257
The construction is pretty solid, button works fine, but the mic has terrible quality. Maybe glueing a horn like appendage to the mic hole will boost quality ....
Had a cheap hongkong 3.5 to 3.5mm adapter with my previous phone, wich tended to split along the seems, but mic quality was spot on.

I'm using a 3 to 1 adapter, this way I can charge my device, and listen to my headphones, either the 3.5 or mini-usb, or both at the same time. I got mine cheaper then on one listed below ... no way would I pay 5 bucks for shipping for a less then one oz. object.

I ordered one of these before I even got my Tilt - put it in the first day I got my Tilt- it fight so tight that when I tried to remove it, the housing came off, leaving the metal connector stuck in my phone, which I carefully extracted with optical needle nose pliers. I worried that the contacts might be damaged, but everything is OK.

1) Anyone have any of these adapters and feel like their music playback quality is near PERFECT (with a decent pair of phones, of course)?
2) Does the HTC W100 wired remote have a port for charging while listening (doesn't look like it, but why not ask, right)?
3) Anyone who owns this adapter (the ebay one from neTimes):
http://cgi.ebay.com/FOR-HTC-VOX-MTEOR-SHIFT-ADVANTAGE-TYTN-II-2IN1-ADAPTER_W0QQitemZ320204043544QQihZ011QQcategoryZ15 040QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
any particularly terrible experiences with this thing, e.g. bad audio output quality, useless mic, completely falling apart, etc? Kaag2000 says the mic is terrible; anyone else experiencing the same thing?

I have the neTimes adapter & recently used it on a cross-country flight with a set of Etymotic ER4p headphones. Sound quality is excellent, as you might expect. Build quality is pretty good -- everything fits together well and the plug/jack connection is solid.
Haven't checked out its mic; I suspect it wouldn't work too well unless it's right next to your mouth, as I don't see any secondary hole for capturing background noise like you see on many BT headsets.

It worked good for a few weeks, but I started losing sound out of one headphone, then finally both. The connection to the phone gets bent, maybe because of the angle? I tried fixing it, but it only lasts temporarily.
Has anybody else had this problem with this part? Do you have better luck with an adapter that is straight, rather than angled?

When you say "the connection to the phone gets bent" are you referring to the adapter or the port on the phone itself? I have had the same problem, at least only with one ear so far and would like to have an idea if it is the adapter or the phone. I'm going to order another adapter and if that clears the issue the answer is then quite clear.

The adapter, as I have no problem charging the phone with the same port.

I'm looking at getting a cheap car charger through ebay. I notice that the connection of all the chargers is the smaller end of the USB cables (not the one that goes to the PC). Is that what the connection is for this charger? I cannot tell in the pic due to the angle. I want to avoid getting an adapter as there will be a lot of wires.
cig lighter-->car charger-->2-in-1 charger-->phone
aux in from Alpine car stereo-->3.5 cable-->2-in-charger-->phone
Will this work?

No, but there are "pigtale" ones that do have a mic.
Is there any way to get the phone's built-in mic working with the 3.5mm audio adapter plugged in? I constantly use Skype, and I can barely hear the person I'm talking to...
BTW, this is my first post 'cuz it's actually the first time I've been stumped... been on here for 3 weeks, got my phone working perfectly thanks to the guys here! :)
Hope someone can help... Thanks.

2-in-1 mini USB and 3.5mm Stereo Audio Multi-Adapter for ATT 8525, T-Mobile Dash/Wing, HTC TyTN, Sprint Mogul at http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/105-5701713-1017261?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=2-in-1+mini+USB+and+3.5mm+Stereo+Audio+Multi-Adapter+for+ATT+8525%2C+T-Mobile+Dash%2FWing%2C+HTC+TyTN%2C+Sprint+Mogul&x=14&y=17
(is shown as add-on when ordering AT&T Tilt, which BTW is being offered for $199.95!)
Well, this one stuck in my Tilt so firmly that it broke apart when trying to remove, leaving metal connector stuck in port, which I had to carefully extract with needle-nose pliers.
So I no longer recommend this item
Has anyone else had the same issue with this product, I'm trying to determine which adapter to buy and I like the ability to charge/sync while also using the headphones.

Since nobody replied, I went for it and can confirm that the mini-USB jack fits correctly on my adapter. Although the device is a bit bulky, having the ability to listen and charge is nice!
Cheers.
