View Full Version : 30.53 MB of storage - REMINDER

utak3r

As people keep asking over and over... I'll remind you all the procedure of joining your ExtROM with a storage space, giving you as much storage, as 30.53 MB :D

First, you have to download ExtROM Unlocker, install it on your device' storage (not on SD card, nor on RAMDisk!). This will give you 4 shortcuts in Programs folder:

- unhide ExtROM
- hide ExtROM
- unlock ExtROM
- lock ExtROM

First, choose "Unhide ExtROM" and perform a soft reset. After that, choose "Unlock ExtROM". Perform a soft reset.

Now, get HimaDOCTool. Run it, and do a DOC (disk-on-chip) format.

Then, hard reset. Generally it should be enough, but you'll be safier if you will do it this way:

1. Hold Camera and Record button and press reset. Hold it a while, until you'll see three options at the top. Choose:

* Enable KITL: No
* Clean Registry Hive: Yes
* Format Storage: Yes

You can walk between them and change with Camera and Record buttons.

And press Action on your DPad.

Voila :D

Attention!:

Ather90 developed an UI (user interface) for above apps, which gives you a lot easier progress with this task. All the info about its usage is contained on the first page of this application.

I'd like to throw in that you'll get a 'trusted certificate error' unless you install the unlocker on the device - running off the storage card won't work.

Hi utak3r,

Can you explain how to unlock the ExtROM step by step?

Thanks.

1)download ExtROM Unlocker ->done
2)install it on your device (not on SD card!) ->done
3)and unhide your ExtROM.-> done
4)Then perform a soft reset. ->done
5)After that, unlock your ExtROM. ------> how to do this:confused:
6)Perform a soft reset.

2) install on Storage, not on RAMdisk either
This step should show in Start>Programs 4 icons (shortcuts) named
-unhide ExtROM (use for step 3)
-hide ExtROM (do not use)
-unlock ExtROM (use for step 5)
-lock ExtROM (do not use)
Do not look for a FILE called Unlock! It is a SHORTCUT in the PROGRAMS folder.

If after step 4 you either do not see the unlock icon, or if it shows some neutral icon instead of something that looks like a yellow padlock, or if you get a "unknown certificate" error when you cilck this icon, it probably means that you accidentally did install on RAMdisk or SD card. In those cases go to Settings>Install>Remove Software, select ExtROM Unhide/Unlocker>remove, soft reset, install again, this time to Storage, EXTROM should still be unhidden so go straight to step 5 and so on till DOCtool is finished.

30 mb is the max storage enhancement possible?

Yes, as far as any of us know. It takes either an incredible genius, an incredible discovery about our hardware or a soldering iron to change this fact.

Well, there's only that amount of NAND ROM memory in Himalaya, so it can't go further...

Good job! Perhaps a bit more stress (bold?) on the shortcuts? Although there will always be noobs trying to find programs using File Explorer...

Well, there's only that amount of NAND ROM memory in Himalaya, so it can't go further...
Never say never. Not the NAND ROM itself is the limit but the fact that the OS currently only allows itself to look there for Storage. In theory a kernel hack or a driver could change all that.

what happens with my (in Extrom) installed applications if I use the DOCTools Restore function ? Will they simply be overwritten ?

So long

Maggy

Once you've followed the instructions above, you do no longer have an EXTrom, it's space has been added to Storage. If you would use DOCtool restore option, it creates a new, empty, EXTrom space and your storage would shrink back to 14MB. Which part of the files created in Storage will be lost is unpredictable.

I doubt if anybody could ever find a good reason to do so?

Try normal soft reset, and right after that try again. Are you pressing it for some time? It sometimes gets a second or two to enter this mode...

Hell, no!
Ask Buzz or baniaczek, maybe there is some similar method for BA, too. Some of the devices are hacked this way already. Some are not, though...

Hello,
Just New to the group and to the O2. got it from someone who "upgraded" to the iphone. i was checking out how to upgrade this phone to wm6 as seen in your forums and came across this how to guide, i cant seem to install the extrom_unlocker properly because when i try to run the extrom_unlock nothing happens and i lose the storage card folder in file explorer, where exactly should i place it? Storage? that folder * disappears after i run extrom_unhide *

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply, anxious to get this thing upgraded. yes, i put it in a folder called "Storage" and also tried putting it inside the temp folder in what i would guess to be the root directory. still the same thing, i run the unhide and it prompts me to restart. and when i click unlock after boot nothing happens.
Thanks again

Yep, exactly so. Unhide, unlock and restore binary partition :) Soft reset between all the steps. Hard reset with storage formatting after the last one.

I agree that both Tomtom and Igo run great on WM6 Hima.
-offtopic-IGo looks better, easier interface, locks satellites much faster, does great track logging, but calculates the most weird routes straight through cities.
-back on topic-

I am curious to do this, and the result is the old partition doesn't come back :) May be because I merge extrom in WM2003 :) Big possibility I have to go back to Window2003 to bring back my old partition :)

Hi

for several reasons, I want to go back to the original T-Mobile german ROM for MDA2.
But: because of the "unlocking", it is not installing it's "T-Mobile Rom" anymore, neither the programs, that autoload after the "upgrade" (after the hardreset, one has to first set up the device, and then, automatically some special additional software was installed - that does not happen anymore)

How can I set up the MDAII in a way, that this will happen again?
I tried to reverse the mentioned process with the Lock/Hide commands, did the doctool and a hardreset. No success :-(

Any help is most appreciated.

then I did as your steps to unlock ext-rom, but checked the memoy was shown as below,
Storage total:30.53MB, In use:2.55MB, Free:27.96MB;
Program Total:24.35MB, In use:13.65MB, Free:10.71MB.

Maggy
22nd November 2007, 11:28 AM
your Storage total is correct and that's what this thread is about. There is something wrong with your Program memory (unless you have a huge page pool) but the tools mentioned in this thread do not influence that. Either something went wrong with flashing your ROM, or the ROM itself is faulty. You can reflash the same ROM to see if you get the same numbers. I advice to redownload it first. Or you can pick another ROM

First of all, there're several types of DOC chips from M-Systems. Then, there're different types of locking extrom from device to device. Next, partition tables are different, too....

I'm a noob and had the same problem but I was able to get it. You can't automatically get a NO/YES/YES without doing anything or just by waiting for it to come up the way you expect it to be. When your on the boot loader, you have to press th RECORD button to change the value from No to YES. To go to the next option press the CAMERA button, then press RECORD button again to change the value and when you're happy, just reset you device and that's it. Hope I was able to help.

Help I'm stuck.

I installed EXTROM and did the first bit, i.e. ran "Unhide ExtROM"

This gave prompt to reset.

Then when I tried to run "Unlock ExtROM", the icon did not react or do anything.

At this point there was no sign of the storage files when I tried to browse

anyway, I then ran HIMDCOTOOL and did a hard reset.

But I don't know how to tell if I got 30.53 meg or not. The deviceinformation says 32MB flash size and 14.57mb storage size.
I'm assuming the latter suggests it didn't work ??

Someone tell me where I've gone wrong please :o

Hello!
I have the same question as tangwd898.
I tried to unhide the extrom - the storage card is unavailable now after softreset.
Now I call unlock it by the program-nothing happens!? No window appears-nothing!? After softreset-storage card still not visible.
Also after installing HimaDOCTool and executing it-nothing happens!? I guess I miss a step everyone knows exept me (and tangwd898).
I copied the installation file on the storage of the MDA2 and instaled it by selecting it with the filemanager. Is that OK?

Can anyone help me???
Thanks in advance!

Hello!
My question is answered (my fault): I am working with an old WM that I want to upgrade to WM6. Thats the reason I looked in this thread. But someone told me, WM6 is possible not working for me because I have Extrom not given free?
Do I have to run any version of Extrom before upgrading to WM6?

WM6 works fine without doing anything to your ExtROM. Are you sure you've installed those programs on device's storage? And not on a card?

Hey everybody here! I want to say a big thank you for all your work!!!!!

At first sorry for my bad english.

Since I have seen what I can do with my Himalaya I grabbed it out of the place (didn´t know the right word for "Schublade" :D) were it restet the last 3 yrs. I installed the ather rom that looks like the htc-touch and some other programms after reading hundrets of hours in these forum. I´m a fresh single so there is time enough. :) :( :D
But after installing all this nice progs my device makes me angry because of the storage warning!
And now I found this here!!!!! Great!!!!! Thank you soooo much!
I hope all the rom cookers will do it with the himalaya for a long time!!!!

Sorry, I have an untopic question. What does that Manilla think means? Is it a Programm that I can install like a cab file? Would someone make a Manilla-Rom? Would be nice to use the Himalaya like the Diamond!

Once again thank you to everybody here!

Grüßle! (greets)

I unhide extrom then soft reset, after that I press on unlock extrom, but it has no response. it's just like a dead application.

How now?

I know how now. In fact, do" unlock extrom" first, then "unhide extrom"

voila.

Hi
I have as follows:
1. Storage - 30M
2. RAMdisk - 30M
3. Programs - 70

How can I repartition RamDisk - half to programs, half to Storage?

Thank you

Maggy
23rd January 2009, 01:20 PM
That is not possible because of two types of chips used in this device. There are ROM's with different sizes of RAMdisk and Program area's and if you're willing to dive really deep into cooking your own ROM you can can change RAMdisk and Program size manually. But your Storage is at its maximum.

As Maggy said: RAMDisk is just a part of your RAM, so you cannot do with it anything but freeing and returning to RAM pool (so to have like 100MB of RAM). The Storage is on another chip and moreover: of different type... (NAND and NOR).

Dear seniors,

I installed all three programs listed on the first page.
I opened a folder in the program files containing lock, unlock, hide and unhide ExtROM.
I chose unhide, followed the instruction to soft reset but not using the hardware button.
Afterwards, I chose unlock.
A window with 'debug' written appeared.
I chose OK anyway.
Nothing happened.
Checked the storage in setting>system>device, it was still 14MB.
I soft reset the device and rechecked, still 14MB.
I repeated the process several times. Nothing.
Then I saw an application in the Program Files with clear instruction.
Thinking that I had unhidden and unlocked the external ROM, I proceeded to step 3, "Do it".
I soft reset the device.
The screen just go back and forth between O2 XDAII opening page and ROM:6.1.2a16CS then blank.
I pressed camera, notes, and reset, then chose No, Yes, Yes.
Nothing changes.
Please help me, pretty please...

Dear seniors,

Problem solved! :D
I put the device in it's cradle which is connected to the PC and power.
The system boots, and asks me to calibrate the stylus (hard reset procedure?)
Rechecked the setting>system>device info, storage size 30.53 MB
Many-many thanks for the instructions, download materials, and tips.

Yours sincerely

Dear seniors,

uhmm.... are you saying I'm old?... :p

The system boots, and asks me to calibrate the stylus (hard reset procedure?)

correct, it's a cold init, run always after hard reset performed.

Cool, I'm glad you made it.

I had got a rom upgrade of Imate pocket PC [equivalent of O2 XDAII]. it gives me the option to choose the memory for the storage and the programme while it assigns 15 MB to the RAM[from total of 128MB] but the problem with this is that whenever i change the battery or if phone remains closed due to low battery then I loose all of the installed files and it re-installs some of the windows own files.
can anybody figure out how to tackle this problem. I had used other roms but they do not had the flexibility of changing the memory assigned to the storage or programmes, so would like to continue it

Seems to be a combination of a poor backup battery (hard reset after empty battery) and a still locked and not erased /EXTROM. Try to follow all the steps in post #1.

Thanks Muckelmaus for such a quick response, but I had tried to install extROM unlocker.cab file but the message comes that it is Unsuccessful. what could be the reason.
futhermore, about the above ROM, I am interested in it since it is very fast and gives me a storage memory upto 70Mb but could not figure out how to prevent loss of installed programmes.

Anyone of any help is welcomed.

Ups, accidently double post, no prob.
I think, your problem is, that you first flashed and then try to unlock.
My suggestion is to downgrade back to WM2k3SE unlock and erase. Follow the first post step by step and flash again. I had to to it once, too.
Sometimes the RAMdisk is not softreset resistent, however. As I remember my own test of this ROM it wasn't ,too. Maybe the problem is solved afterwards, if you are a lucky guy.

Ah, it took some time, but I think now I understand.
You ran Hima_Doc_Tool and merged Storage and Extended ROM, or so.
Now you want to switch back?
But with the help of a tool that merges, that's impossible. Try to use Hima_Doc_Restore.

Hi everyone,

I have an mda compact II (HTC Charmer)with ROM Version 4.0.0.0 WWE (german) and ExtROM Version Charmer Touch V6.
I cannot perform Active Sync for Contacts and Calendar. I receive the Error message 8007000e telling me that there is not enough memory available (although there are no programs running). So I found this forum with the tools to enlarge storage. I performed as described - transferred the ExtROM_Unlocker.cab to my XDA II, unpacked it and found the new program folder. I performed Unhide ExtROM - worked; Soft Reset OK. Then performed Unlock ExtROM - and received ERROR: message (with no further details). Could choose between "debug" and "ok", doesn't change anything.

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanx for quick help - I really need to get my contacts and calendar sync'd!

The easy way to brick your device is to use software, that is not designed for it.
Most of those tool are not compatible to othe devices.

so what do you think should I do? Install the official T-Mobile 3.3 AKU?
I thought this forum is about developing better versions than the official ones...

Look here, this is the forum for your device:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=344

There are German ROM here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=360

The active sync Error you got is a known issue on Charmer upgrading.
Watch post#1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363882

BTW: I do not know anything about your device, but I know, it is a good idea to practice to use the search button.

Hi muckelmaus,

thx for the reply. I realised now that the Charmer needs different ROM upgrades than Himalaya. I did so with the WM 6.1 diamond upgrade by cyberdel, hoping that this would solve my problem, but now the charmer is completely stuck.
I read that I should have flashed back the official T-Mobile WM5 release before flashing the new one. Bad luck. I posted this problem on the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4200424#post4200424

Maybe you can help on this one.

Thx, Max
