View Full Version : [REVIEW] Nushield Screen Protector for Kaiser
My review of the screen protector from Nushield.
(Purchased 2 anti glare, 1 clear model screen protector [comes in a package of 3 only]~ 12 USD)
Install:
-Installation is pretty straightforward but requires some experimenting to get the film in.(Doesn't use a sticky film, but rather a slide in)
-Warning, Make sure that there is no dust under the screen! It is a pain to take out. Trust me i know, i accidently wasted a film by bending it to take it out.
-When you first get the product, u might think that the screen protector they sent you wasn't yours since it looked to big to be fitted in. But actually it fits perfectly once u manage to slide all sides in.
Sensitivity loss:
-On a scale of 10(10 meaning no sensitivity, and 0 meaning no screen protector) it receives a 1.
-However, I did find a HUGE improvement in the touchflo scrolling than without the screen protector.(If you own a kaiser, you should know of the smears and awkwardness of sliding ur thumb to scroll.)
Overall feel and look:
-I actually dont notice it, and it is fingerprint proof.
-Using touchflo feature, the thumb easily slides across with no smears, in other words i dont get that suction feeling.
-And dont forget this is a slide in, so you dont get those bubbles you get from using the provided screen protector you got with the kaiser. The screen protectors surface is really smooth, its like sliding a thumb across a sheet of printing paper)
PS: I have not tried the clear film yet, and dont think i have to. The antiglare film seems to be secure and feels as if it can last years...
My rating for the nushield screen protector is a 9/10.(would be 10/10 if it was easier to install, but then it wouldn't work as good ;))
As for purchase instructions, go to www.nushield.com and choose the HTC TYTN as for screen specs since it is the same as the kaiser. (I was foolish to try to custom make the screen protector for the kaiser only to realize that its the same size as the tytn!!*got email telling me that :(*) You can mix and match as i did by putting which films you would want under the comments on checkout.

Thanks for that, i was looking for a good screen protector but i didnt want those sticky ones. This is perfect and from your review, it seems to do a great job too!
Thanks, i just ordered one, but as you said, there was no 'kaiser' ones so i just ordered it for the tytn

I'll always be a fan of PocketPCTechs.com's WriteShields. And during October, you can get 20% off if you use this coupon code: PPCTRC1007
Type it into the Special Instructions field.

Just as an FYI to anyone else considering ordering the NuShield: I decided to try some based on this review, and also decided to get two anti-glare and one clear. I got the following response:
While we are always trying to be accommodating to our customers
special requests, this one has gotten out of hand. Someone must have
posted on a discussion board that we will do this. This request is
now occurring several times daily and represents a significant amount
of time and effort to put these special packages together.
Guess they don't like doing that very much.
EDIT: and fwiw, they appear to currently be out of anti-glare anyway, so I ended up ordering clear.

Martin Field's OverlayPlus (http://www.overlayplus.com/US/dis_product.asp?model=HTC_2TyTN&modeln=TyTN%20II&prod_type=screen)
Best. Screen protector. Ever. Period.
It's non sticky, invisible, and best of all: If you mess up (e.g. bubbles, dust) while putting it on, you can just rinse it off with water, let it dry for a few minutes (or blow dry), and voila: It's clean and sticks again.
I've been using these things on my mobile phones, PDA's, Nintendo DS, etc, for as long as I can remember. Even after 5 years, you can simply take the screen protector off and your screen will look brand new.
Already have a small scratch? Put the screen protector on and it's gone :)

I thought the 8525 is the same as the TyTN, and the screen protectors for it won't quite fit the Tilt.
But you can confirm these will fit the Tilt?

Unless it's an unusually small screen protector for the TyTn/8525, you are correct that it will be too large for the Tilt. I had to trim about a millimeter off of each dimension of my Boxwave ClearTouch Anti-Glare for it to fit.
I really like the Boxwave protectors. I had one protector last for over two years on my Treo 650, and similar to another protector described, if you want to clean it just use hand soap and water and stick it right back on.
In fact, I found that if the protector is slightly wet, it is much easier to get the bubbles out. It took almost no effort after I trimmed it when I put it onto my Tilt's screen.
So do any of these make the screen easier to see in direct sunlight?

I've never came across any that would. The only thing that helps is the... ummm, shade. :)

I confirmed it in my review. BTW Dont be stupid and trim it, it fits perfectly, trimming it would cause it to be loose once its in which will become an annoyance.

keep trying to fit it in, if you read the original review he says that it's very hard to get it in there, but once it's in...it's gonna do good.

I was able to fit it in but its not on perfectly because the overlay uses a silicone adhesive, which makes it somewhat difficult to maneuver unlike the nushield screeprotectors which you just slip in.

wait....i think this is a case of miscommunication, I thought that you couldnt insert the NuShield protectors in, so I said to keep trying because the original poster said that it took him a little bit, but now it seems like you are talking about another kind of protector.

a lot of 99 cents only stores have 10 for 1 screen protectors that are larger than the kaiser. i bought like 5 of these (50 count) and just cut them to the size of the manufacturer's protector. it takes about a minute and avoids the highway robbery of screen protector prices.

Just ordered from Martin Fields. Really expensive, but I remember how good the protector was for my old nokia 6682. FWIW, it comes with protectors for the front and rear cameras as well (not that I have a use for my front one)

I just received the Martin Fields screen protector for the kaiser and the main protector fits perfectly. However, the rear camera protector is not a perfect fit although it does cover the majority of the lense.

I bought a pair of these and promptly screwed the first one up installing. The 2nd one however, went on much easier. I have a mm of space on one end and it's the only way I can see a protector is even on. I need to see how long it lasts but would definitely buy again based on my use thus far.

NuShield SUCKS !!!! I bought it because of the review it got on this thread and though the sensitivity isn't gone, but the touch is now inaccurate because the screen moves around. The website says there is a thin mask film but all i got was a screen with a blue vinyl strip on the top end about 2 mm wide. What that is for I have no clue. I should have went with my old classic...Boxwave. or something else at least. This has NO film mask. I'm not asking for a sticky adhesive but the plastic should cling onto the screen at least. Now this silly screen protector moves around as I swipe my finger to use TouchFLO.

Hmm if it moves around nushield probably didn't cut your film correctly (if they did bitch @ complain for free wipes?.) and/or you trimmed it. If you trimmed it you fail @ life.
the sides should have been cornered to hold it into place, resembles an awkward diamond shape w/ top and bottom cut flat.
the thin mask film applies to the clear version, not the anti-glare.
The anti glare has a blue strip to tell u that thats the side to face away from the kaiser, not to it(another way to tell is that one side is smoother than the other, wheras the smoother tends to stick to the lcd better than the other side) And if you didnt take the blue strip off before installing it, its darwinism at work.
however i received a perfect order, everything was cut correctly (from bottom to height is 63mm, using a calibration meter) for those who didnt get it cut correctly, theres always 99cent screen protectors that other guy offered.

I have to say the Nushield Clear Version I received is one of the best screen protectors I ever used. It fits perfectly. There's no play at all. There's no bubble under the screen, and I cannot not tell if the protector is even there. Writing feel is far superior to the original protector that came with Tilt. I also was collecting dust and skin oil on the corner where there's no coverage before, but, now the screen is covered from corner to corner.
Well worth the price.

I did the same thing and got mine in the mail yesterday. It is a bit tricky to install because it is much taller than Tilt's screen. When you put it into sides, pull it under the bottom portion of the screen, not the top. Bottom has more space for it so it is easier.
So far it has been good except one thing. When I apply pressure with my finger, it creates marks under the screen. Kinda like air bubbles. I have no idea how to fix it :(

If you have something that looks like air bubbles, means you put it on the wrong side. You will have to take it out with a piece of tape, and put it on the right way. It took me like 3 tries before i got it right. Hope this helps.

I got the martin fields cover and have to say I am extremely disappointed. The fit isn't perfect for the screen either. I slipped the first time and screwed up. On reapplications, I can't get the bubbles out. It seems to suggest using a hair dryer will help it stick better but I don't have one. Was way more expensive than the other brands too. I only got it because I thought it was the brand I got for my nokia 6682. Turns out the one I got for my nokia was a Insten brand. I found the packaging and was quite pleased all over again. Came with a lintfree cloth and all.

I ordered the nushield based on reviews here. Here is my review. Awful. fit is Ok, except it slides around, because of that any tiny little piece of dust under it is creating scratches on my screen, kind of defeats the purpose of a screen protector. as far as the "bubbles" go, it doesn't matter which side is down, one is much worse then the other though. Yes I removed the film before installing, yes I read AND followed the instructions. Also new dust has no problem getting underneath the nushield because is slides around in the case. So I'm back looking for a stick on alternative now.
I really don't know how anyone has given these a good review. I have tried everything and these protectors are just NOT GOOD.

I have to say, I'm not to crazy about these either. I don't yet have the moving around and dust problems mbritten has, but I do have the bubbles, which really makes the screen look bad. The included instructions say that if you have bubbles, you didn't install it with the correct side towards the screen as instructed (the side you peeled the plastic off of). Although I was certain I had it right, I removed the screen, and put another new one on, making sure it was right, and again, bubbles. Having sandwich fit vs. adhesive is nice because you can't see any edges, but the resulting bubbles aren't worth it.

I purchased the anti-glare ones because of this review.
I just installed one.
It's EASY to install.
The "Klear Screen" wipes are WORTHLESS and durtied my screen.
The Blue wipe that came with the protectors made my screen greesy. This is bullshit. Totally worthless wiped and blue POS.
The screen protector its self is nice. It doesnt slide and it did improve touch scrolling.
I'd say all in all the whole package is worth about $5 though.
Its a good screen protector because it covers the whole screen by sliding underneith the frame. Beyond that it's nothing special.
P.S. The anti-glare one is a tad foggy. My screen IS clean. I'd suggest going with the clear ones instead. Wish i had one of each to compare.

I received my nushield clear screen protector yesterday.
It's definitely a pig to install, failed on the first attempt and left with a bent protector. Second time, I followed a previous posters advice and inserted the sides, then the bottom and finally the top which made things slightly easier.
I like the feel of it, nice and smooth. It is pretty much invisible when viewed head-on and covers the entire screen. The fact you could potentially take it out and reapply as it isn't "sticky" is also a bonus.
The only downside is I have a kind of mottled air-bubble effect which is visible if viewing the screen from an angle. I don't know if anyone else has this, perhaps I need to give the screen a better clean and reapply?
All in all, it is way better than the protector provided with the vario 3 which had far uglier bubbles in several spots, felt a lot less "smooth" and didn't cover the entire screen.

The protector that came with the Tilt worked fine for me. I am trying out the Nushield one described in this thread and spent quite a bit of time reapplying it, trying to get rid of all the dust getting trapped underneath after it was installed.
I used a dry cloth and spray duster and it did the trick. The Kleen wipes included might have made the problem worse. Use a dry cloth instead. However, since then, it's worked fine. The protector moves around a bit, but there are no bubbles (which came up, initially, no matter what side I installed the protector) and no dirt underneath. And it spends a lot of time in my pocket.

I have the boxwave protector on my tilt and didnt have to do any trimming. they prolly fixed that issue. I only use boxwave products for all my lcds. had it on the old audiovox xv6600, mda, d50 and now the tilt :) they are supre easy to put on, non sticky, and can be cleaned. no sensitivity loss either.

I'm a little lost, and would love it if someone could "sum up" the different protectors available. This thread seems to be the only active protector thread, and it's kind of all over the place.
If not, I guess my biggest question is: It's been mentioned that the anti-glare NuShield improves tactile performance; but does the clear? Clarity is more important to me than anti-glare, but tactile enhancement is more important to me than clarity, so...
:) Thanks, all.

that film you take off is the top side it tends to stick to the screen and i bent the first protector of the 3 because it was doing that. If you flip it over it slides freely inside but mine doesn't slide very much.
Review: I prefer the nusheild because its basically invisible and the other kind the tacky ones develop hazy patches on the screen. These protectors are basically invisible except the the slight bend i accidentally created putting it in(due to inexperience installing). Using your finger on the screen feels better it sticks less. Its not any less accurate to me. It took me forever to get the dust from being trapped under it while i was putting it in because it takes some force to put in and i totally messed up the first one.
For all you people complaining if it moves around alot,
heres a simple solution...
shove the film to the top where it sticks by pressure.
That hold should be enough to keep the anti glare from moving around.
yes, im a genius, no need to compliment

This is the best screen protector I've ever had. It makes the stick on ones look stupid.
If you follow the install directions and are careful then installation is not a problem.
For the people that are on the fence about this like I was a week ago while reading this thread you should definitely get one. Any of the people saying it's horrible are NOT reading the directions and are probably putting them in upside down.
Do yourself a favor and get one.

these protectors are grabage, they do move around in the phone and trap dirt under the screen. i just took mine off to put a different protector on and theres a bunch of little scratches from dirt getting traped under the screen. you guys make it sound like rocket science to put on, it's pretty straight forward but they still move around when you put them on properly, it rocks at the top and bottom cause only the sides touch. i admit that they do look good initially but after a while when dirt gets under the screen they start to look pretty awful.
you can try to shove the screen to the top but that holds it for a few hours until you press too hard and it moves again. i've tested both side it doesnt matter which side faces down it still moves cause there's nothing holding the top and bottom edges. maybe some people are getting screens with better fit that doesn't move around as much but for the ppl that have ones that move should really get a new screen protector asap or you'll end up with scratches
a screen protector that scratches the screen what a waste....the martin fields are so much better it even makes the scratches from the nushield less noticable.

I purchased this screen protector after reading the reviews here. The idea is awesome, but the screen protector is crap. Once you get it in, it slides all around making the touch screen difficult to use. On top of that, stuff can still get underneath, which, as other posters have noted, scratches your screen. I managed to cram it far enough down that I wedeged it into something so it doesnt move, but it leaves a 2mm gap at the top that is uncovered. If it fit better it would be awesome. The material makes TouchFlo great, but as far as protecting your screen, it fails. I would not purchase another one, infact i still have 2 others I wont be using (comes in a 3 pack).

I ordered some nushield, and I must say it was a disappointment. Even after you get it in place, new bits of dust and fiber get under it. While its very smooth and good for touchflo, thats its only good point. Its hard to get in place and impossible to keep clean. I got 3 sheets, and 2 of the 3 came with small scratches or marks already on them. They were minor, but they should come from the factory flawless. Also I would see oily spots under it. Even when put in the correct side down.
Two thumbs down. A waste of $15.

I have to admit I was really liking the NuShield but I had ordered a Martin Fields to see how it was and really like it much more.
1.) It is a stick on but it's much thicker so you don't get the ton of air bubbles.
2.) It is cut EXACTLY the right size. Closest I've seen so far.
3.) Washable and re-usable...which makes the $15 not such a large investment for a screen protector :)

Thank you Laakness, I have a Martin Fields in the mail now. I personally prefer sticky protectors. The only reason I'm not using that one that came with the tilt is that I messed it up and got dust under it when I applied it.

Installed nushield. People are complaining that it slides all round, but in my case it doesn't. Fit perfectly. The biggest problem is getting it installed without any dust particles trapped under. Had to remove the first one because of dust. Wasted the second one installing. Got the third one in, but still couldn't get rid of all the small dust particles. I did thoroughly cleaned the screen before installing. But still dust somehow gets under the protector as it takes effort to get one to fit perfectly. Because of these dust particles there are some oily spots under the screen. But these are not visible while the screen is switched on.
Touchflo scrolling is indeed a lot easier. Feels a lot more responsive.

So I too, thought the nusheilds were great, but after a few months, I have some serious scratches on my tilt screen. As stated, dirt or grit seems to get underneath the screen, and rubbing back and forth causes permanent scratches on the screen below. Thats a BIG f'ing flaw!
Does anyone know how to get these small scratches out?

Thanks for this post I have been meaning to get a protector as I am really getting a greasy screen and don't want to ruin the tilt

Ever since I put my Martin one on I've never taken it off or had an issue. I haven't even scratched the protector yet!

Confirm that after a month or so of usage dust somehow gets under the screen protector. Removed nushield and installed Brando. In my case the dust particles did not cause any scratches though.

Hi,
Is there a screen protector which really protect the ENTIRE screen ? Not only a portion as OEM (scroll bar pb) ?
I have found this one
http://www.disagu.co.uk/product_info.php/info/p7151_DISAGU-Ultra-Clear-Screen-Protector-OVP-for-HTC-TyTN2.html
Does someone test it ?
They are saying "Our screen protectors protect the entire screen, not just a portion thereof."
Regards
