How to to activate the gps photo on the TytnII (like the Artemis)
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\
in the folder called P9 change the value "enabled" from 0 to 1.
Now if you launch the camera you must find a new menu called "gps photo".
When you shot a photo in this way the tytn write the position (lat and long) in the exif data of the photo.

Cool. Note that GPS photo doesn't show up in the menu -- it's another camera mode, like photo/video/contacts/etc.

You can use the lat and long in google maps, in TomTom etc.

When you select GPS Photo, the camera software turns GPS on itself if you're not connected already...

If you want to simply view the point in google maps:
with exif reader read the coordinates of the photo i.e
GPSLatitudeRef : N
GPSLatitude : 41 0706 [DMS]
GPSLongitudeRef : E
GPSLongitude : 14 5225 [DMS]
Now open google maps and write in "find" the coordinates in this way
41 07' 06'' 14 52' 25''
Google maps show you the point were you have take the photo!

It's called geo tagging in google.
Use the picassa image software from google. if you load the photo's in there, the tool will recognize the coordinates and by following a menu it will bring you to the location in google earth (which you already have of coarse). It shows the photo (and all other photo's geotagged) indexed by picassa in Google earth.

Thanks, but I want to see them in Google Map, is this possible? Any different procedures?

Read post #1 and #3 again..... The position information is stored in the EXIF information of each photo.

Hi, I've just activated this and I am getting the GPS photo on screen with the GPS on. But when I take a photo there is no location data on it. Anyone have any ideas?

Forgive my ignorance. I'm assuming the regedit for the TyTN II? How do I get there?
If for the PC, I don't have it and can someone explain how that would adjust the setting on the phone?

SierraDelta - is the little red light for GPS on ? On my Kaiser not. What I tried is to start TomTom and then make the pic - no change . same result ??? Do you change something in the menu of the camrea when you are under GPS photo ?

When you switch to GPS photo, do you see a message indicating that the TyTN II is initializing the GPS?
It you don't, then something may not be set properly.

The decimal systems counts like:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17
The hexadecimal system counts like:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F, 10, 11
So 10 in hexadecimal is 16 in decimal and 11 is 17...
But up to 9 everything is the same, so 1 in hexadecimal is 1 in decimal and 9 is 9.
When you use Resco Explorer with the registry add-in to edit the registry, you see both, hexadecimal and decimal, untill you edit the value. There you have to choose to use hexadecimal or decimal. After saving, you see both values again...
My point is:
There's no difference between 1 hexadecimal or 1 decimal, so 'changing' it won't help...
Please forget this:
Because in some settings 1 stands for 'on' or 'enabled' and 0 for 'off' or 'disabled' it's used nor as a hexadecimal number, nor as a decimal numer, but actually binary...
But that's another story...

Note:
Did you try to change the external port in your GPS settings?
Because this is known to cause problems...
After that pretty much all you can do is hard-reset and try all over again...
I believe it's much safer not to change anything in the GPS settings menu...

Hexa oder Decimal - doesn`t bring a difference !
Wonderful - now I made a hardreset and it worked - but then started the backup file and the same result - it does`t work - so when I do the backup which part do I have not ! to backup - does this anyone know ????
My comp port is before and after the backup on com4 ???

Could anybody help me with how to display the pictures in Google earth by using picassa or any other tool?
- GPS picture works
- Picassa has tools, geotags, show in google earth
- google earth opens with a new temp picassa link
but nothing happens after .. and when I zoom into Google World I can not see a picture or tag at the location
What else do I need to do to get a marker displaying the picture direct into google earth

Flickr recognises the GPS info, but doesnt recognise the "-" in the longitude info, resulting in an incorrect position, if i manually enter the coordinates including the "-" i get the right location.
Any suggestions?

Open the camera, press left on the d pad, or keyboard. and voila, you have GPS photo mode.
Although it measures in hours, minutes and seconds and doesnt seem to like negative longitude figures. lol.

Hi!
I am reading and searching but at the moment, can't find a solution to this.
I changed the registry and can now launch GPS Camera, but it does not connect.
I have also launched Tom Tom and got a fix, then GPS Camera,
and Google Maps then GPS Camera..
The software displays 'initialising GPS.... .... ' but doesn't succeed!
Any advice appreciated, back now to re-read and see what I can find!

i have already tried this. i can have a gps program working (like tomtom or google maps. but if i open my camera with one of those running and hit "left" to see gps picture menu it only shows the message "initializing gps"
maybe my spanish version ROM has a different camera software version....
any idea?

Just wait for about 30 secs, itll get a fix on your position.

And by the way, GPS needs line of sight, so if your indoors, your signal will be very weak/non existant.

I was in the middle of a field and waited for 5 minutes. Then tried again for another 5 minutes!

i will explain how i run the gps photo...
1 download modaco gps for kaiser
2 soft reset u phone
3 open tomtom and wait the gps signal
4 open camera( if the signal came)
5 select category of the photo type '' GPS''
6 you ll see the '' GPS initilaze''
7 when the info cant visible you can take photo easily
8 now you can upload the photo to http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/ site
9 now,you can easily see where u are..

Might be the same problems as with the Artemis.
In the latest version of Irfan View, there is also an exif mode and a link-up to google earth implemented.

I had your problem. In fact I had given up meaning to look into it sometime. However, yesterday I accidentally slipped the scroll wheel onto GPS Photo. I decided to leave it to see if it would get a fix. It did.
No settings were changed. Like you I could run tomtom and others GPs apps. I ran quick GPS. I double checked ports etc etc. In the intervening two weeks the only things I had done were:
1
Reset the registry tweak to NOT show GPS Photo (as it was a pest trying to find a lock)
2
I installed jongma's Kaiser Tweaks application.
On the Kaiser Tweak application I selected Camera save GPS position.
I promptly forgot about it until yesterday when I tried it and it worked.
I do not offer this as a solution but merely a comment on the vagaries of life and TyTn II.

I edited the registry yesterday and tested out the GPS photo, it worked fine, I pulled the image up on google earth and all was well. Today I tried again an it connects to the GPS, I have green gps icon on the camera screen, but now it is not saving the coordinates. The only things I've done are backup's, I have not restored anything. all other GPS programs (tomtom, google maps, live search, gps tuner) are working fine, and everthing in the camera program is acting the same way it did yesterday, only difference is there is NO gps info with the picture anymore.

Ok finally tried a hard reset and restored a backup I made earlier today (backup was after gps photos stopped working) and now everything is working. I have no idea.

With the Artemis this occurs, if you choose the SD-card as storage space before entering the GPS-Mode. With the internal starage everything works fine.

Hi all,
I have the same problem.... Did the reg hack - I know it works because I have the option of gps-photo. However, starting it just gives the message 'initializing gps...' which sits there until I get bored and cancel it. I can confirm using other GPS utils that I have signal and I have left it for easily long enough to require (10 mins) when other apps aquire after 15 to 20 secs...

I took a photo in Rochester, NY, USA and I this is in the EXIF

@0x0000296=662 : Latitude = 43,29,20
@0x00002ae=686 : Longitude = 77,48,4
I put those into google maps and that's in Kazakstan??
I uploaded the photo to flickr and it says the photo is in Lake Ontario, about 20 miles into the lake (toward Canada) --the lake is only about 10 miles from here, but still.. something just isn't right. Maybe it thought it had a fix but I should have waited a bit longer.

Note that in Google maps, west longitude and south latitude are specified using negative numbers. I just did a GPS photo here, and Google Maps puts it about 50 feet south of my living room.
Sounds like you may not have had a good fix. Use VisualGPS or some other utility to determine how many sats you're seeing -- you need at least 3 to get a good position fix.

That is normal!
With WM5, there is always a deviation up to 300 m in east west direction. Its a software bug.
With WM6, the decimal place of the position is not stored in the exif data. Therefore, You have a deviation up to 30 m in all directions

Umm, works for me. It's at my apartment. Good thing it doesn't do altitude or someone could pay me a visit :) I'm using the ATT rom.

The good news on that is that 0 and 1 are the same no matter whether you are using decimal, hexadecimal (or binary for that matter).
But to emphasise the point, you do need to perform this registry hack on the TyTN II or else GPS Photo will not be an option.
Now...for me, I have got this piece working and am pleased so far. But I do find that the first time "GPS Initialising..." is run, it takes 2-3 minutes to find the satellites, even in open space. It is worse if you don't run the Quick GPS utility first. After that, the camera/TyTN takes a more reasonable 10 seconds from powerup for the GPS Initialising bit to run.
Has anyone found a way to speed up that first GPS fix so that it does not take 2-3mins to initialise the GPS satellites?
Same issue as others - stuck on GPS Initialising even though Tom Tom has a fix.
Im assuming that the cab file only changes the reg setting?
Anything else that we can try?
People who have it working what COM port is your GPS set to please?

Programs ->com4
Hardware -> none
Access -> GPS automatic enabled
These are the settigs for the Orbit; never know if it works for the Kaiser too

Finally found a work around for the failure to initialize. I started "Windows LIve" let it grab the sats then went to the camera (while keeping WL running), started the 'gps photo" and within seconds the green gps button on the camera came to life. Snapped a picture upload to GPS Visualizer and it was very accurate.

...that the tomtom or another navigator could read the photo for not to use the exif reader.
I make the photo, and I open the navigator; I say to it that find the poi in the directory and ok. But I have tu use an exif reader for see the coordinates.Ħbuf!

I got the GPS Photo to work and extracted the data, i tried to pin point the location using maps.google.com and it found it. But whenever i try to search for the same location using google maps mobile it comes up with "No results found for: "

Guys, is there a way to simply mark a waypoint with the Tilt? I have the GPS photo tactic working, but it seems like a hassel if I just want to mark a waypoint and upload to Google Earth/Maps. Any ideas?

GPS Photo works for me but the pictures aren't saved on the phone! If i choose to send the picture as a mail it works, but if i just save it the picture dissaperas. I found a reg entry in the same place where you enable the function that is called "SaveFolder", it was set to "My POI". I changed that to "My Pictures" but it didn't help.
Any ideas?

Yes - same here. I have resigned to the fact that I have to copy from "My POI" folder...
Another question I have is a problem I have with the GPS Photo and how the geo information is stored.
From the EXIF metadata, it stores coordinates as space-delimited, eg: 2 18 54.
However, Google maps doesnt recognize this format. I had to manually edit through another EXIF tool to this 2 18'54 before Google Maps recognized it as:
2 deg 18, 54.00 north.
I see some of the folks here having comma-delimited geo values in EXIF. I suspect that i am missing something in my config/registry.
Can anyone share with me their GPS Photo registry, please ?

thought i might add, i think newer versions of the phone come pre programmed with this already in the registry - i took my phone out of the box and it had it already in the camera menu.... not sure if that was something new or not, but i thought it was cool! regedit software shows "enable" already set from 0 to 1!

does in the Video (after 16sec Video)

It's called geo tagging in google.
Use the picassa image software from google. if you load the photo's in there, the tool will recognize the coordinates and by following a menu it will bring you to the location in google earth (which you already have of coarse). It shows the photo (and all other photo's geotagged) indexed by picassa in Google earth.
I had older phone so insatled Kasier Tewak & Adv Cofig
& have it enabled
But its still not loging on GPS
what could be the problem :(

Are you sure you have a GPS fix when your taking the picture?

All had to do was
start & set my Telenav & works Fine Now

Hmm I have the issue where I have GPS signal/connection, take the picture but the picture is nowhere to be found... I have tried both setting it to save on the card and the device - any solutions yet? :confused:

It should be in a - My POI folder
could be in my documents

Now that alot of us has this working there is a new option under capture settings called grace period with the selectable options of ; none, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or 30 minutes. So far i know this has nothing to do with the time out for initalizing the GPS since that setting remains unchanged in the registry nomatter what i set the grace period to. Also it has nothing to do with the review time.
So far my only guess is that maybe its a grace period on you GPS Fix in that it will only grab a fix every 5, 10 or 30 minutes or if set to none it will grab one for each time a photo is taken.
Is there any one out there that has this option standard so that maybe the setting are in the brand specific manual. Since even HTC doesnt even include the info of this option in the manual.
