View Full Version : [08/03/2008] PocketCM ImageViewer 0.9

Hi tene!
You are doing a really great job! I'm using your ImageViewer since the first release and I love it!
Two things:
1) If we only have on folder with all cached images in it, doesn't it slow down the application becaus it takes longer to search/find the specific cached image in a folder with many items? Would it be better and is it possible to have subfolders in _cache for each album? I don't know if it would make loading faster or not, but I had this idea right now :)
2) How about DPAD support in ImageFlow view?
Thank you!
Vi

0.7 is up, delete, send as MMS, caching. Have fun!
Hi tene!
Great job again! Thx for 0.7 version. (meanwhile I found the version 0.5 which I searched and requested...)
My problem is similar as the others mentioned... despite caching, the images loading is a bit slow still. Besides the order of the folders (without picking favs) is scrambled. The 0.5 version kept the order of the folders based on the number of the images in them (the folder containing the biggest number of images first).
It may be useful either to return this method as the 0.5 works or make alphabetical maybe?
Nevertheless it is an eye-catching app... thank you again!
Ps. I wish the touchflo would be this smooth as the scrolling in PCM Image Viewer...:(

excellent work Tene.
i have two minor annoyances -
- all of my portrait images are upside-down. can this be fixed easily?
- i usually have my pictures ordered by "newest first" in camera pic folders for easy access to pics just taken, at the moment there is no way to reorder and have to scroll right through them all to get to most recent
keep up the good work, you've implimented the "Send To" feature in a matter of days, i have been waiting (im)patiently for months for this in S2V and it's the most important feature for me.

as always another great update but this may sound a little picky but could you simply include the back-round pic with-in the theme.zip file;) when ever the next update is? or is there a way by tweaking the settings.ini file?
much appreciated..

Outstanding!
Any chance of a version for vga devices, the buttons are way to small on my pda, it tokk me ages to work out how to set favorities due to the small images.

Thanks again TENE !
I have already ask a request on your forum and I would like to know if you will answer it some days :
can you sort the photo by alphabetical order when opening a folder ?
It would be very use full for me because I found that pocket CM image viewer is a wonderfull application to read comic books.
The probleme I have it they does'nt beggin by the beggining.

Hard to achieve, as I'm using simple standard API for sending the mail/MMS. (and also I don't use this).

What are the name of your image, I fear simple sorting won't do it (you could get things like: image1, image10, image 11, image2, etc...)

I tried doubling the size of the icons, but the software does not recognise the images or refuses to use them. Any ideas why that might happen?
Edit: I've sorted the buttons, just had to archive but not compress and clear the '_cache' folder and all is good.

damn nice imageviewer, i thought Slide2View was great but this one beats'em all.....Great work!
On my KS20 i just have one little problem, maybe some other people recognized this as well with other devices......when i slide the image it gets in the middle bit distorted (vertical) while it's sliding to the other pic.
No other bugs seen so far, great job.

A rotation from portrait to landscape would be cool so you don’t have to turn your device sideways to see the pic. That setting could be for the picture and the scroll direction of the left to right image slider to make it up and down. And a sort by woudl be nice too.. Date..
Very nice work….

Already posted this but never got an answer: the program keeps exiting after 10-15 seconds, consistently. I thought it wxould be a bug so i tried the new 0.7 version, but still the same.
Is there a conflict or some registry setting i should be changing? Or perhaps i should install it in some other way (I made a folder under 'programs' an just pasted the exe and theme-file there.)
I use a European touch dual with stock rom BTW

PocketCM ImageViewer 0.7
PocketCM ImageViewer is currently a test version, the purpose is to experiment what's possible with image on our Windows Mobile device using the PocketCM framework.
ImageViewer 0.7 (07/24/2008)
- Added send via MMS, mail, ...
- Added delete picture (with confirmation)
- Added image caching, remember it's caching, so the first load still takes some times, the second load is faster.
- Bug fixes
ImageViewer 0.6 (07/21/2008)
- Favorite folder list: now you can mark folder as favorite, in order to get a shorter list of the useful folder
- Folder are sorted alphabetically not by image count anymore
- Improved look: comes with a default theme now
- Performance enhancement
- Bug fixes
- You can customize the theme in theme.zip, feel free to post if you make something that look great ;)
ImageViewer 0.5 (07/20/2008)
http://www.pocketcm.com/img/imageviewer/imageviewer1.png http://www.pocketcm.com/img/imageviewer/imageviewer2.png
- This is a major release, so expect lot of new things... and lot of new bugs
- Integrated "flow", grid, slide and folder browser in one app
- New image grid, showing thumbnail
- Press the upper right button to exit
- Press the mode button (@) to switch between flow and grid, or to go back to image list when in slide mode
- Press the back button (top left) to go back to the folder list
- Pressing on an image in flow or thumbnail mode, goes to slide mode
- For theme: the application always dump all the setting when exiting, have a look at dump.txt in your imageviewer folder to start customizing it. Like PocketCM Contact, you need to put a settings.ini with the settings you want to customize in it, they will be loaded at startup. Future release may include theme/options support, but for now, it's intented for testing
ImageViewer 0.4
- Folder list: your start the application, you'll see a scrollable list of all your folder containing pictures, simply tap on one to see the pictures in this folder
- Images smaller than screen aren't resized anymore
- Fixed zoom out animation: not it revert back to unzoomed image position correctly
- Zoom now focus on the tapped zone (tap on the head of a friend, you end up with his head zoomed
- Performance tuning
- Migration to PocketCM framework, settings documentation will come soon...
- Bug fixes
ImageViewer 0.3:
- Image rotation support: maximize the visible space by rotating image.
- Lanscape mode support
- Memory optimization
ImageViewer 0.2:
- zoom: tap on a picture to zoom, double tap to unzoom.
- improved memory management
ImageViewer 0.1
Initial version:
- To close: tap on the upper right corner (like if there was a close button)
- Copy (unzip) to a folder that contains image.
- ImageViewer load image in the background, if you see a white grey box in the top left, that means ImageViewer is loading image.
- Simply slide left or right to go to the previous/next picture.
I don't know yet if it will become a product one day, it's just a experiment for now, if you want it to continue to evolve, support me: http://www.pocketcm.com/donation.php
You can get it from http://www.pocketcm.com
i just tested it on my GENE(new 3400i) wm 6.0 its working perfectly..
it would have been much better if it had an option to set a picture as today's wallpaper..
Rest is excellent.

Works damn nice on TMo Wing.
Allow me to open separate Favorite folders as portrait or landscape (i.e. open all the pictures that I took with the built in camera rotated 90 degrees, all others as 0 degrees) and it would be perfect for my needs...

Great Job!!
I'm not sure anyone has mentioned this before, with the latest version:
- when showing the thumbnail, it runs from the last pictures; instead of from the first picture
- I believe that most pictures are taken in landscape mode; so when press the thumbnail of the picture, it should automatically rotate it to the full pic in landscape. The next pic shown should follow the mode; until you rotate it to the portrait. What I like about S2V is that once you rotate the current picture, the next picture will follow that rotation until you specifically rotate it to the other mode; then next picture will follow the current pic mode again. Go on like this give us more convenient.
- the thumbnail listing, if possible, should have been faster.
I'm using S2V and I like it a lot because of the above features. I also found that showing full screen without the transparent bar and white rim is better because I usually resize my photo to fit 320x240 and I hate to lose additional details for the surrounding white rim.
I think if you try using S2V, you will see which of its features could be used to improve your excellent image viewer. I definitely like the album flip mode which do not have in S2V.
Sorry if my English is not very clear

yes me too it crashes after around 30-60 seconds. but in that time everything works perfect and superfast. I have a tmobile wing with wm6. also on my device I have snap2face for facebook and the image viewer picks up all of z folders, around 200 folders, could this be z problem?

Tene, your app is really great since v0.6, for me it's the perfect replacement of S2V.
Now here my results :
- When zooming on a "big" image it's long to have all pixel removed (not easy to say in English but in French cause I say your understand [Lors d'un zoom les images son pixelisés puis une sorte de "filtre" est appliqué, celui-ci est long...]
- If you can add an option for adding an image in S2U2 (registry value + S2U2 reload)
- the last thing is a question : how to have a black backround in photo view (not in folder list) ?
Thank you this app is really really great !

Thanx you so much for this great app... the rotating and zooming system is just AMAZING...
I'm juste pointing out 2 little problems i've seen on my Kaiser :
- I'm not convinced about the new loading system =S, the loading takes a lot longer that in 0.7, even if it's not first load.
- The photo is pixelised (this word exists? Oo) when you zoom (event if it's good quality)
- Could the last made photos appear first in thumbnail ?
Thx so much for your work !

- The photo is pixelised (this word exists? Oo) when you zoom (event if it's good quality)
That the problem that I say : in fact your photo isn't "pixelized" in this version (in previous yes) but you must wait without touch to zoom or rotation to have the picture actualised (from top to buttom) without pixel, so it's too long ;)

But there is still no folder structure.. all the folders containing images are listed mixed... and the listing starts again at the next start of the app...

I noticed it crashd after a few seconds. It turned out I had a rogue file in the folder which was a large, corrupted jpeg. Once I deleted that, it doesn't crash anymore.
On my Touch, the button bar at the top disappears shortly after loading so I have to remember where to press. It would be nie to have the option to turn off the "shadow/reflection" effect in grid view, I think it just slows it down. If I flick up and down the grid list, it can accidentally trigger the close button which is annoying. The full screen view of a photo would be better just as a full screen and is today very slow. The coverflow style view is very nice but would look better slightly larger I think. Startup is very slow, would be nice to go straight to the favourites list straightaway.
Great app, thanks.

First, I really want to say how great this version is.
I am using HP 6828 running WM 6.1. I have iFonz & Active sync running on the background before I start up PocketCM ImageViewer 0.8. No problem.
Load real fast (better than previous version). The zooming & animation is really a big improvement.
Nevertheless, I have found only 1 little issue.
It have problem viewing PNG files that I saved in Photoshop.
Hopefully this will be helpful for future improvement.
The biggest jpeg I have successfully open is 648k. Quite good, isn't it.
Thank again:D

Too long? what time are you seeing? what's the size of your images? It's about 50% faster as previous release... remember that showing big image will always take lot of time and resource, if you copy your camera image on your phone, expect it to takes a long time, there's no miracle.
The only improvment could come from using another jpeg decoder, and there aren't that many on the market.

Yes it is faster as old versions but it's about 20seconds for 1600x1200 pxl pictures (take with my Artemis/Prophet camera). I've made a test with Windows Vista wallpaper and it'sabout 30 sec to make a mask on pixelisation ;)
So I've not this problem with AC S2V or HTC Camera Album, it's not really dramastic but some people can want to have a direct (or quasi) rendering.
So for me that the best picture tool for the moment, just some options to make a picture as Windows backround, or S2U2 backround ;)

Wow !!! Excellent work tene ! This one is really becoming a must have !
Here are some remarks than I hope will help you making it even better !
- When firing up the App, sometimes favorites folders are not shown immediatly, but just when the directory listing is done. It can take up to ~45sec... I can just switch between to empty list until it's done... (and, yes, I have a lot of directory with images...)
-Zooming is always performed on the center of the image. It would be much more confortable to zoom on what is on the center of the screen (or on the touched point)
-When sliding to the next image, if you maintain a slight rotation degree during sliding, the image stay "rotationned" when you go back to it (bug just appear with a really slight rotation)
Thanks again, and keep up the good work !

This application is awesome, it makes me happy to see how far its come from its first release
any ways, its running very smooth, almost scary smooth, makes me think im not using a winmo phone that lacks 2d drivers lol. heres my short list of suggestions
- I agree with above poster, zooming should be based on the center of part of the image you see and not the center of the image period.
- I would also like to have the rotation on both sides of the screen. Not only that, im assuming it would be a bigger programming feat. but since i dont know much about programming of this type any ways, would it be possible to have the rotation occur in the same fashion? Ie, not around some center axis, but the center of the actual view
Okay, the reason i made these suggestions is because ive found it pretty fun to rotate an image and zoom in without releasing the stylus from the screen. This type of image navigation feels natural ... still, it is cosmetic. This thing runs better than anything else on my phone including the phone app, everything after this .8 release is frosting on the cake.
Not to forget anything, i dont know what the name of the mode is, but when you click on an image from either the grid or the slide show, it takes you to that actual image. This mode allows for you to slide to the next image in order. Ive noticed that some images dont load up a proper thumbnail/preview in this mode, as it seems to be not be the full image.

can you add "send via bluetooth" ?
that is the only reason i stick with resco photo viewer.. despite all the candies and whistles you guys develop here at xda-dev..
HTC album sucks in ram and rom space. it feels clumsy and don't have send via BT
S2V looks and feels good.. but loading a bunch of pictures takes a looong time.. and i only use it ATM for changing S2U2 background pics.. and also, no send via BT..
PCM image viewer seems a bomb in user friendliness and interface.. and it's a lot faster thant s2v.. but still.. like the HTC album (and i suppose iphone photo viewer) bandwagon, there is no send via bluetooth option..
not all people have unlimited 3g access (or no data plan at all), and stick to more conventional, free means of transferring files (from device to device).. and BT, as far as i know, is still the best one..
c'mon.. bluetooth is not just for A2DP.. people forget that it is also used to transfer files.. more and more programs have been neglecting BT as a means of sending files now a days..
hope this goes through the next build.. thanks...

Tene,
When I'm viewing 320x240 photos that I use as backgrounds for my Wizard, it displays them with a side margin as well a top margin used by the status bar. I would love to be able to display the 320x240 photos in full unscaled resolution. Right now they are being scaled to something like 300x200 and its making them look very grainy. This will also help the image quality when viewing 640x480, 1600x1200, etc since it would be downscaling to an even factor of their size (ie 640x480 will be at even 50% scale instead of 47% scale).
So can you consider removing the top status bar and side margins when viewing an image full screen? Please and thank you. =)
Also a couple more things if you don't mind:
1) Can you consider adding the rotation jesture in the coverflow-style view so that you can switch it to landscape view without having to slide out the keyboard or flip the screen orientation. The coverflow view looks a lot better landscape.
2) Can you please consider making the coverflow view in landscape have larger thumbnails. Somewhere between 150-200% of the current size would be wonderful.
3) On the grid view in landscape, its using the 3 column wide row that leaves a gap on the right. If I restart ImageViewer in landscape it'll space it out nicer without a gap. But just wondering if a 4 column wide row would better fill the screen. (Someone might have suggested this a while back...sorry if this is a repeat suggestion)
Once again, thanks a lot for your hard work. My dated Wizard always feels like a brand new toy whenever I install a new version =) I really appreciated it.

Great work.. New improvement with new releases. Keep up the work.. I am using 0.8 version of image viewer. To sumarrize great work, fantastic improvement. But here are some observation which needs improvement.
1) Takes a while to load the Image when you click on it.. This pbl wasn't there with ver 0.7.. First displays loading msg(bit slow) then loads the image,, which is also slow.. Displays black bkd then slowly renders..
2) First few images under a folder loads fast may be some 10 images.. Afterwards again takes time to load the rest of the thumbnail images.
3) When scrolling thru the Folder list, moment you take your finger up.. rolls back to the previous folder view.. Eg.. If i started from 1st folder and swipe my finger to scroll same around 15 folders, and take out the finger it goes back to 1st folder, instead of staying @ 15th folder.
4) A small blue box comes up at the top right hand corner when scrolling thru the images in Grid view.. I think you might be using it to show that it's doing something.. Not sure..

I really like this program. I would like a combination of this program and the Resco image pro (minus the editing). This program is a pretty good viewer however, I dislike the load time for my default picture folder of 233 pics on my storage card. It picks up the small folders, as I wait for the large folder to load. This even occurs if I can add it to favorites. It would be nice if upon start it loaded favorites first in means of priority. Recso is faster but I like your interface a good bit more.
I tried installing on my storage card and device; both having the same wait time for my main folder.

Really great app, Tene, thanks a lot :) Works really smooth on my Wizard. Unfortunately, i'm facing similar problems as ones mentioned before. In my opinion the most serious of them are png's not loading properly (not displaying at all, or having messed up colors where they should be transparent), sometimes not all images load in thumbnail view.
Also, modifying rotozoom behavior so that rotation and zoom is performed around the center of the screen, not center of the image would be nice.
And another optional feature i'd like to see: replacing the list of all folders containing pictures with some simple file explorer, something like the one seen in S2V. Having a list of all folders with images seems cool, but when you have a lot of images (usually in program folders) on the card, waiting for the one you're looking for to pop up (and to actually catch it, since the list can grow as you scroll) is a real pain. It would probably be simpler to navigate to the correct folder manually.
Tene,
When I'm viewing 320x240 photos that I use as backgrounds for my Wizard, it displays them with a side margin as well a top margin used by the status bar.
Actually, this can be done with a proper theme. Try extracting and opening the setttings.ini from theme.zip (included with image viewer) and add these lines to it:
header.*.info.background=fillalpha(#CCCCCC,128)
imagezoom.*.box=0%,0%,100%,100%
slidecontrol.*.margin.top=12p;
slidecontrol.*.box=0%,0%,100%,100%
gridcontrol.*.box=0%,0%,100%,100%
gridcontrol.*.margin.top=12p
folderlist.*.box=0%,0%,100%,100%
folderlist.*.margin.top=44p
default.scrollbar.box=-6p,12p,100%,100%
Save the file, put it back into the archive and copy the theme.zip over back on your device.
Now the images will occupy 100% of available screen space and the status bar will be semi-transparent and drawn over the images. Also the folder list and pictures in grid view will be visible under the status bar as you scroll.

noticed a bug:
some images are shown already zoomed in and croped. weird behaviour.
also a feature request.
Something that is not available on any picture viewer is a folder immage thumbnail like there is on XP.
Also, I would get rid of the line type scroling (looks like the commanager) and use a folder outline with a thumbnail of the first photo in the folder... or at least incorporate that thumbnail in the line folder chooser thingy. (that's a technical term :) )
Gereat program and very small.
Another thing that would be cool is incorporating a regisry addin to make it the default picture viewer. Is that possible?
very impressive scroling, but sometimes it gets ahead of me. maybe I just didnt get used to it yet.
most of my folders are numbered instead of named which is why I ask for the thumnail preview. it is something nobody incorporated yet. Great GUI looks nice and very simple too. Much better than the HTC Album. :)

Tene this a very good viewer. It's fast and smooth. I am loving it. I have a few suggestions though.
- The top bar (one with carrier name and time) should be disable-able in full screen. (so we can view the images in true full screen)
- When we flick from one image to another (in full screen mode), no bars should appear to distract the image. (tap and hold for menu bar or something like that would probably be more preferable)
- It would be nice if you implement the zoom function like htc album (circling the area to zoom in to). The tap zoom isn't too finger friendly, some times it scrolls instead of zooming while using thumb.
If this app does these, goodbye to all other picture viewers from me.
Best of luck mate and thanks for making WM's more finger friendly.

For the speed part. Still takes about 10 seconds to load my default pic folder as it is located on the storage card. I have it listed as a fav but still requires about ten seconds for the folder to come up. If you fixed this problem, I may use this as my default pic software. Like I said previous, a mix between this and Resco Photo Viewer would be a slam dunk I think, though it is solely my opinion.

I think it's the best viewer I've ever used. Amazing!
I tried reading Trasformers comics with some viewers and guess what: this one has the best zoom quality! I can actually read the text while image is zoomed.
And the animation is simply fun.
Couldn't stop myself from posting about it in my blog... sorry... :-)
1 comment though, the movements are very sensitive, (when I try to move the zoomed picture it sometimes zoom in or out when I'm not intending for that to happen...), is there a way to configure the sensitivity?
Or, is there a way to move the image (left/right/top/down) using the d-pad? I think it will solve it...

This version is nice. It's definitely faster, but I wouldn't say 400%, maybe like twice faster than before. But all in all still beats everything out there :)
I think the only real problem is with the sensitivity of the program as a whole, especially rotating. There were quite a few times when the program confused between rotating with zoom/next picture. Maybe I have clumsy fingers, but it happens quite often.
Thanks again for the great app

Depends of lot of things, it's "up to" 400% faster with my testing, for instance 1600*1200 images tooks around 4300ms to load, now around 1100ms the first time, then 800ms. But it's the performance of the loading algorithm, not the whole application, if you rotate your image while the app is loading the next image then it's not gonna be 100% faster. Also the performance gain for smaller image is closer to 200% than 400%... but hey it's marketing you know how it goes ;).
I guess it also depends a lot of the hardware, the place were the images are, etc... I'm guessing on faster CPU it becomes more IO bound than CPU bound, so a better algorithm can't help.

Some things need to be fined tuned and will probably change, but also you need some training to use it, like every new GUI, you'll probably get used to it. I'm also thinking about changing the zoom feature to be different, but it's not 100% clear yet and need some work. Also zoom/rotate from the center of the screen should make things look more clear and less disturbing (now if you rotate by accident, it can completely change the image you're seeing, if it's center, at least you still see what you want to see but rotated), but it's quite hard to achive (I'm bad at math).

Thanks for all the hard work tene, its becoming quite a kickass viewing program.
Along with the thousands of other requests you are probably submerged in, is there any way to implement 'slippery' dragging like in EyePhoto. Where you drag the image it keeps going a little bit more, rather than stopping exactly where you leave your finger.. it feels a little more fluid and organic this way.
I love the current rotation method, it takes a bit to get used to but is pretty good I think. The only other think I would like to see is easy skinning and basic d-pad navigation.

Actually, it's very easy - very similar to standard rotation/zoom around the center, you just need to move the image before and after the transformation, or use a different (3x3) transformation matrix.
I don't know how you originally implemented the rotation/zoom, but i guess you used a 2x2 transformation matrix and just multiplied the pixel coordinates by scale factor before or after the rotation. If so, transformation around screen center would only need two additional math operations which can be inserted into the code rather easily. You'd have to first translate the image pixel coordinates so that the center pixel of the image (0,0) is at the center of the screen, rotate the image, scale it, and translate it back.
So, if coordinates of the center pixel of the image are [0,0], and coordinates of the pixel that is currently displayed at the center of the screen are [Xc,Yc], coordinates of a pixel before transformation are [X1,Y1] coordinates of a pixel after the transformation are [X2,Y2], RM is a rotation matrix, and ZF is the zoom factor, coordinates of a pixel zoomed/rotated around screen center can be calculated as:
[X2,Y2]= ( ( [X1,Y1] - [Xc,Yc] ) * ZF ) * RM + [Xc,Yc]
Of course it will have to be done for every pixel.
I hope you can understand what i wrote here :P
If not, feel free to ask :)

I get it, and yes that's the idea, the prob is to find something that works well between all the transformation: once I know the coordinate of the pixel at the center of the screen it's obvious, the prob is how to get a pixel...
If you want to help, I have:
-coord (0,0) is upper left corner for screen.
-angle is the rotation angle in tenth of degree
-zoom is the zoom (1000 == fit to screen, 2000 == twice the size of the screen)
-width/height of the screen and the original image.
-offsetx, offsety the offset of the image from it's center after zoom applied. (basically: the number of pixel you move your finger, so it has to be applied after the zoom, otherwise, a 2 pixels movement on a 200% zoom will give a 4 pixels movement).
I have a StrBltRotated method that takes care of clipping and take an angle and an output rectangle as parameter.
the rest is "just" math, but I'm quite bad at it and I take abnormally long time to figure this out...
ps: and of course I need the rotation to works reverse and give me the source coordinate, so I always process at most the number of pixel on the screen, not the number of pixel in the image.

but one question..
will it or is it possible now to change the 'white' background to a 'black' one?
i looked at settings.ini in the theme.zip but didn't see anything that resembled background color or gradient.
am I missing something? or is this hardcoded into the app?
other than that tiny little issue (for me at least) this is one smooth flowing app and will use it regardless of the white background.

Hi Tene, I got a problem with the RAM consumption.
image viewer always crash after a will when I open a folder with a lot of images(60 images and 350ko average size).
In fact it craches before it finishes to load all the tubnail (about 70% tubnails loaded).
My hardware is HP 4700 with WM6.1
I don't have much ram but I thuoght it would work :
total : 54.30 MB
Free : 26MB
after each crash, I have seen that I went from 26 to 2MB free RAM so I can tell it crashes because of the RAM consumption.
Is there a way to limit the number of tubnail or images loaded ?
For exemple, It would be enough for me if it would load the only 10 images next to the one I am viewing (it would make 20 in total so it should be OK)
The best would be to be able to customize the number of image loaded next to the viewed one in the .ini file.
an other idea is to stop loading images when the ram consummed by imageviewer is more than 10 or 15 MB.
I hope you could find a solution because I don't have yet a 128MB total ram device ;-))))
thanks again !

about your rotation issues...
8'm not a mathematician, but...
If you divide the immage into 9 equal parts and code it so that only touching the corners allows rotate; and the rest of the 5 "middle squares" are for gesture / navigation only. it seems like that would be a simple thing to do.
another feature request: unfortunately, right now I can't tell if I am rotating an immage or scroling to the next one. perhaps if you would put transparent indicators in the corner boxes/ divisions it would be easyer to know which way I am scroling.
Also, add folder thumbnail support if you can?
Thank you I use it every day. :)

Sorry i didn't post back earlier - had a busy week.
When i thought about calculating the center of rotation with the data you have, i think it might be easier an probably faster to create a separate function/method for drawing a translated and rotated image than try to include some wild workarounds in the one you now have.
I dug out my old program (win32, not windows mobile) and modified it a bit and commented to demonstrate how the rotation+translation could be done. The program and sources are attached to the post (i compiled it with Dev-CPP with SDL library). The program can read and transform a .bmp image of any size and display it in a window of any size. It can take two command line parameters (width and height of the window), 5 parameters (width and height of the window, name of a bitmap, its width and height), or no parameters at all (uses default image and resolution). I included two test images and some batch files to launch it in different resolutions with these images.
Usage is much like PCM viewer - dragging on the screen drags the image, dragging near the right edge of the screen zooms the image, dragging near the bottom edge of the screen rotates it, and clicking top-right corner closes the program.
The only problem is that the method i propose requires random access to all image pixels. But if you have the ability to access them directly, then it should be usable for you.
Detailed info about how the program works is in the comments in "main.cpp" file.
But what it basically does is going trough all of screen pixels (of course it can as well be different, smaller area), and for each of them calculates corresponding pixel of the loaded image. Let's mark the screen pixels coordinates as (i,j) and the resulting image pixel coordinates as (x1,y1). All you have to do after calculation is to copy the color of the (x1,y1) pixel of the image to the (i,j) pixel of the screen. Since the "for" loop processes only pixels of the screen (not all pixels of the image), you don't have to worry about clipping. In case it's too slow you can always do the calculations only for every second pixel and use some pixel doubling during transformations.
The transformation matrix requires calculating sine and cosine of image's rotation angle, but this has to be done only when the angle changes (in my program i do it every frame because i didn't want to complicate it too much) so it shouldn't be too hard on the CPU. And if it is then calculating trig functions can always be replaced with a look-up table.
I don't know if this will be of any help, but maybe it will at least be a push in the right direction ;)

In fact, I already have most of what you describe, the only thing I have tot do to make it right is that 1000 zoom -> 1:1 scaling. In my implementation 1000 zoom makes the image fit the screen, which makes thing more complicated (even if in theory a simple transformation should work).
Thanks, I guess I can use this to make it right.
ps: I'll have to worry about clipping anyway; sometime the image isn't fullscreen. But that's already handled by my implementation anyway.
ps2: if you're interrested you should try Windows Mobile programming, it's basically the same as Win32, with more constraint, you might like it.

This is indeed the best imageviewer out there, a lot faster than S2V and cooler looking (I like how it doesn't automatically slide the pictures all the way when you swipe your finger, but that the images actually follow your finger and only take over when you release, just like in the iphone).
The only problem i find is that in the grid mode, the images are shown in landscape (with the reflection beneath them) so there is a lot of free space between pictures and the pictures themselves are very small. I think a default view of the pictures in portrait, which would not leave any blank spaces in the grid, would be better (that, or showing a square thumbnail). So actually the same as when your device is turned landscape (then the thumbnails fill the grid nicely), but in portrait.
Also, a default autorotate to fill the screen when viewing one picture would be nice. I find myself rotating every image to fill the screen (most pictures are landscape).
If these matters are resolved (maybe I can do this myself by changing the settings.ini?) this program would be the best out there.
Also, a black in stead of white background would be nice, and maybe larger images in the flow mode...?
Thanks a lot for this great program anyways

In fact, I already have most of what you describe, the only thing I have tot do to make it right is that 1000 zoom -> 1:1 scaling. In my implementation 1000 zoom makes the image fit the screen, which makes thing more complicated (even if in theory a simple transformation should work).
then the scale factor (to be used directly for transformation) could be calculated as:
scaleFactor=zoom*min( ((float)screenWidth/(float)imageWidth) , ((float)screenHeight/(float)imageHeight) )/1000;
Where the scaleFactor is 1 when the image is displayed pixel-to on the screen (100%), 0.5 is 50% scale etc. And zoom is 1000 when the image is the size of the screen, 2000 is twice the size of the screen, and 500 is half the size of the screen. Of course the:
min( ((float)screenWidth/(float)imageWidth) , ((float)screenHeight/(float)imageHeight) )
remains constant as long as screen dimensions or image dimensions don't change. So you have to calculate only when loading the image (note that the program i posted does similar calculation to make the image always fit the screen at startup.
ps: I'll have to worry about clipping anyway; sometime the image isn't fullscreen. But that's already handled by my implementation anyway.
I just demonstrated drawing a fullscreen image, the screenBuffer array i used could as well have different dimensions than the screen and then be drawn/blitted to any place on the screen, with any size. And you always would process only as many pixels as will be drawn (even some kind of masking is possible).
ps2: if you're interrested you should try Windows Mobile programming, it's basically the same as Win32, with more constraint, you might like it.
Yeah i know. In fact most of my programs do compile for winMo since i usually use SDL (portable graphic/input library) so i wouldn't even need to learn much new stuff, but the problem here is time, or rather lack of it.
Anyway, good luck with the development - this little app has a lot of potential :)

Just plain today image viewer. So you can have Image Viewer tab like in HTC DIAMOND. Take a look at 0:53 sec. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQajKT8HBag&feature=related
Hi,
since I flashed Leo's V10 ROM, I have the Throttle Launcher enabled and a "picture" tab. I love PCM products and was thinking exactly the same: could it be that ImageViewer becomes a Today Plugin?
Thanks for this beautiful app!

Sounds good,
I put it on my (dutch) HTC Touch,
i put it in the folder were all my pictures are because thats what he wants.
then i opened it..
it was loading (gray box in the left corner)
then it asked me to choose a program to close because it does not have enough memory.
i closed everything that was running but it still needed more memory.
so in the end, cant use it.
soft-reset your device then, the memory problem is common on the htc touch

there is a issue for me.
The photos which has been taken by phone camera, when zoom to level 1 (click one times, not 100% yet), it add to much noise. With that photos, if open by album of window mobile, there is no noise althought zoom to 100% or over 100% !
But with photo has been edited by photoshop (or ..) Image View is perfect. It show very nice, orther album program cant do like that with those photos.
And, how to use it to open 1 picture by double click (in explorer) ?

its one of the hottest program ever made for wm..really thanx
now my only wish is file associate..i mean that we can open a photo with image viewer
This is an incredible little app and it does exactly what I need in a picture viewer. The only thing preventing it from being my only image viewing app is that I'm unable to associate my JPG files with ImageViewer. Is this something that might be easy to do?

Thank you for your suggestion.
I actually tried associating all JPG files with ImageViewer using Total Commander a few days ago. The initial setting for program name was ":MSPIMG" or something like that, and the parameter field had "%1" in it. I suppose the stock pic viewer takes the file as a parameter. The same settings didn't work for image viewer though. Clicking on a pic just opens up IV as normal.

Hi i just noticed a weird thing. I installed the image viewer on 2 devices. First my diamond and second my htc wizard, very old device omap 195mhz cpu. However,on the old device its working bettter than on my diamond. espacially the turning of the pictures is workingflawless. Whereas on my diamond only a small part (LOWER RIGHT) of the screen seems to be used to tilt the pictures. And it only works if i use the stylus. on the wizard with my finger. Maybe its becaus of the vga resolution? Because all symbols seem to be very small too.

How about "PocketCM ImageFlow" ? ...
Sounds good, fitting... But what about somebody looking for an image viewer via Google search, would they think to search on flow? Still, this is exactly the feel Tene has captured so velvetly. He could make it into a plugin for any number of apps. For example, a today screen plugin to launch whatever program, document, etc. in a flow fashion. It might be used for contacts. Or, as some have already wished, for flowing through album cover art to pick one to play, like the M8 is supposed to whenever it finally is released. Very nice and fast viewer! Running pretty smooth on my many-years-old Qtek 9100 :)
I've been digging through the dump.txt and haven't found it, thus my question here: is there a way to change the 'save to contact' picture from square 320x320 to rectangular 240x320 (portrait)? That would get rid of the black bars top and bottom when I receive a call and the caller is displayed fullscreen (courtesy of S2U2).
Plus a portrait oriented picture is a little more suitable for, eh, portraits :D

ImageViewer has now been added to the daily build page. (www.pocketcm.com/daily.php)
Main improvment since last release:
- performance improvment

Anyone have a clue on this?

If it wasn't clear enough, you can get the latest build here: http://www.pocketcm.com/daily.php
I would try the opengl build, it should be accelerated on the touch pro.
hello..your software is perfect in my omnia!!it is the best image viewer!
I'd like that will be introduce possibility to adapt automatically image to widescreen of omnia (with a little zoom)

Hi tene, thx for the great software. It works and loads picture very smoothly.
But actually I cannot control the software perfectly as I want. I tried and tried and tried many times but I just can choose the folder to view, go back folder list from view mode, and close the application. I can not mark the favorate folder, rotate the image... :(
So, do you have any guideline to explain full features of current version, how to use your product, how to do settings, apply theme...? I tried to search but cannot find those info.
Thanks,
yerp

tene,
the opengl build's(Mar 22 2009 04:09:22. - experimental) zip file contains no executable, only theme.zip and README.txt and WARNING.txt. is this zip just a vga theme to be used with the other daily build's executable? or is the OGL build's zip incomplete? oh, and thank you very much for giving access to this, i have been missing your imageviewer ever since switching to the touch pro. keep up the great work!

WOW!!! THIS APP IS GREAT!!! :)
The CoverFlow is perfect. I would love to see it in a Mp3 Player App.
PocketCM Player would be great!

:( Seems that building is scheduled every night, but no binaries are included.

yea....ever since tene mentioned the nightly build page, i have been checking it regularly for the openGL version of image viewer and the zip is always missing the executable.....hopefully he includes it soon. i'm dying to try it.

i just came across this image viewer....and...
WOW!! even in this unfinished state, it's already more impressive than the builtin HTC Album!
i really hope the author will be motivated enough to polish this gem further.

Good Question
I just moved the thread to Software development Forum and was wondering if this app was stable and finished enough to move to Applications and Games.
But like it was stated before, sadly it hasn't been updated in a while now.

Really sad to see this development dead.
I trried the program and it is really great!
Except that during the scrolling view, the pictures are a bit small
other that that, it is absolutely superb! =)
