New Software: Windows Mobile 6 - IMSMS (Instant Messaging SMS)

Ok, I'll strike while the iron is hot. The update fixed some of the notification issues. Found another notification / SMS from email address. Use a great google firefox extension to SMS messages from my computer to my phone. On my phone the message is received from "sms-extension-user@google.com". I don't have address in my address book, nor would that contact have a mobile number. IMSMS seems to have trouble handling the case where a SMS sender's from address is an email address. Upon receipt of the SMS message I get the brown envelope and notification popup. Clicking on either does nothing. In IMSMS under menu > alerts there is a "sms-extension-user@google.com", but selecting does nothing. If I got into menu > Chat logs > Show History Log I can see the unread / undisplayed SMS message. The notification of Missed Senders remains on until I exit the IMSMS app.

If you use non-standard SMS messages - meaning the message does not originate from your SMS provider OR is in the standard SMS delivery method, IMSMS does not guarantee compatibility.
I cannot possibly address every new plugin or new SMS delivery technology - I only use the standard sms protocol.

However, if you have a contact number for the incoming message, it will be looked up and guaranteed to work. If you dont have a contact number for the incoming, it will still work if that message receives contains a number - doesn't have to be a phone number. Just any number will suffice. If it comes in -in a non standard way, IMSMS will not guarantee that it will process the message properly - but you can still see the message written to the HISTORY LOG.

Look up the history log and see what was passed if anything.

No problem! Im am amazed at how quickly you've responded! Thank You! I've deleted the palm threaded sms and will try solely run IMSMS and provide more feed back. I do have another question:

Are there plans to move away from PIE rendering the chat history to a custom built in solution? My concern here deal with memory consumption as I am running a Sprint Mogul and have little memory to spare.


PocketIE is a real piece of work - I will seek out a way to flush out the buffers for pocketIE - because yes, it does hold up memory resources for no reason - but you can always rest assured that IMSMS will terminate when you need the resource or other applications need to be run - just set auto start on and it will restart IMSMS in the case it is terminated. You can also help by reducing the size of the chat logs - by archiving then deleting. The larger your custom templates are, the more memory is used. It is not a design issue of IMSMS or a MEMORY LEAK - this is all "normal". Unused memory does not equate to faster performance on the smartphones - unused memory is just wasted memory - ;)

I will be back with an update to this - custom components are not always the best solution - because you they also use up much resources to do the same thing pocketIE can do - (html/css/javascript, etc). Custom templates is the way to go - but also at the expense of memory - I will find a way to recover the memory - in reality, doesn't really use that much ~1-2MB or so - but it is PocketIE that is eating up the resources and not letting go.

But at least none of this affects performance one bit - that's the nature of the mobile platform - to auto switch if more memory is needed (aka auto terminate).

Latest build for smartphone is 1.0.500 - with some new additions - (it's geared for language users (IME installed). PPC editions will come later -

Version 1.1 will be fully optimized with the last new feature additions.

A few notes in Version 1.0.503:


There is a new language selection - do not change this unless you run an IME (input method editor) - it is built to accomodate some users that run IME's on the PPC/smartphones. DO not CHANGE to a language your phone does not support or you end up with ??? all over because your encoding is not supported.

Also, you can now select the Minimal chat log view or the STANDARD chat log view - Minimal view shows the message logs in a very common line format - while STANDARD view (the default) shows the messages in a formatted option - which is more clean and prettier.

Both versions you can set the colors, etc.

So in version 1.0.503,

You have:

1) Standard View
2) Minimal View
3) Custom Skin Template

Some users will experience a fatal application crash when trying to start up IMSMS - this is due to the new language setting - by default, the language code will load up - however, in the previous versions, I have left out the default value - when IMSMS starts up, it may crash and exit when this code value is not present. This issue has been resolved along with other minor issues. See release notes for Version 1.0.505

PPC/Smartphone BUILD 1.0.530

THis build has a new added feature - for those that want vibration but your device would not vibrate (due to OEM code), you can now select the proper code until your device vibrates - (see FAQ/Help Tutorial for details).

Added "refresh log display" - those who have custom skins can now see your updated skin instantly - no need to send/receive messages in order to view your skin template modifications. (See MENU->CHAT LOGS->REFRESH LOG DISPLAY) This also works for all color options (when you make changes in the COLOR OPTIONS MENU) as well.

Also added is some safety checks for proper unicode culture support - IMSMS is culture specific - if your device does not provide the proper culture information, IMSMS will exit with a message.

ON PPC devices, with the new vibrate code selector within IMSMS, you can actually have your LED's light up instead of vibrate. Just choose the alternative Vibrate Code.

So if your device vibrates on Vibrate Code 1, set the vibrate code from the SETTINGS menu to Vibrate Code 0.

It may or may not use your LED's -experiment with it. You'd be surprised:)

I am NOT A GRAPHIC DESIGNER - you can tell from IMSMS - the original design was all MEAT and no SKIN so to say ;)

you can make any skin you want - post them up - as long as your skin does not contain any harmful elements - such as exploits and so forth, that is fine by me :)

REgarding your first suggestion - it's suppose to allow you to switch users (like on the smartphones) - when you have the list box selected and you scroll up/down, it will refresh the chat logs based on the selected friend in the list box - it should NOT jump to the text entry after you switch users - I will take a look at the emulator again to double-verify.

As for your second suggestion - I do not plan on making IMSMS compatible with number formatters or other SMS software just because it is out of the design scope - but IMSMS does not do anything extraordinary with phone numbers - everything is taken from the system phone book.

BUT if you have software that scan numbers or perform other formatting, I cannot guarantee any compatibility - unless it's something that is very common for the general public to use - Sorry about the inconveniences!

EDIT: REgarding #1) I have just checked - whenever you select the list box and you scroll by pressing up/down to change friends, it will remain focused in the list. You have to manually select the text entry either by selecting it with your pointer or by using the ACTION MENU->TEXT ENTRY. It is designed to function this way; unless I misunderstood your original question...

A small new convenience feature was added to Build 1.0.545 - it is for those who wish to call the contact directly from IMSMS - you can now select the friend from your friends list box -> and choose CALL FRIEND - it will dial the contact number for that friend you selected.

As I stated in the past posts, version 1.1 will include a Dynamic Group send feature - it is similar to what you are asking for - send a message to many friends at once - it is one of the last big features to include in IMSMS.

Currently, you can just resend last typed message - it's quite easy to do - just select ACTION->SEND LAST TYPED MESSAGE (for PPC), ACTION->PRESET MESSAGES->SEND LAST TYPED MESSAGE (for smartphones).

THanks for your patience - Version 1.1 is due by end of month.

It doesn't seem to receive any incoming text messages on my Touch even though I have SMS notify other applications selected and auto open - I have saved, and reset - still no luck.

I might prefer it if you didn't have to add a contact before sending them a message - option to just send messages directly - I'd prefer to set that as my default instead of using the friends contact list.

If I use the friend feature - it should automatically show the log of messages for that person in my opion although I'd prefer the opening screen to have all recent friends threads open so I can just click on them directly instead of going to a drop down.

These are just my opinions of course.

1. Some of the simple procedures like messaging any contact from the outlook, is hampered by having to put it in the friends list, my suggestion is friendslists are fine, but how about having a general catagory too where u dont have to put any one in any lists. just select and sms, and wait for their reply in im.
2. If possible can we sms directly by selecting from outlook contacts.
I guess Sending and receving VCards are out of question, same goes for sheduling smses

I am sorry i am requesting these thinking of simplyfing this prog, if its possible. I am sure lot of people wll prefer it to Palm messaging. which still rocks as of now.

* Vibration and Sound together - some of you are requesting that
* Auto Set away - this feature is very unique - (see release notes) - basically you can auto away when you idle (meaning you don't send any text messages).
* Fixed some icon notification issues (multiple stacked icons)
* Rebuilt file dialogs (when searching for custom sounds)

You don't have to setup anyone to RECEIVE messages - IMSMS will auto setup the friends list when you receive any incoming text message. It is when you request to SEND to someone, you must have at least one friend added. This is the design of IMSMS.

THis is INSTANT MESSAGING - as in instant text messaging - Sending vcards, text files, etc. is not part of the design of IMSMS. You would be better off using email/mms to send/receive multimedia/appointments. IMSMS is strictly used for text messaging over SMS protocol.

I have spent much time in the design of IMSMS - you are of course free to use anything you'd like. WHat I offer is beyond ANY company's offering currently - if you can find another paid program or free application that does as much as IMSMS, I'd be happy to work harder to accomodate.

If you are using pre 1.0.550 builds, there may be a problem with the notification icon - this affects smartphone users -

For ppc in Version 1.1, you will have the ability to jump directly to each missed message from that nofitication bubble. The bubble is part of IMSMS' dynamic alerts - in current 1.0.600 version, you will simply go to the MENU->ALERTS - and find your missed contact from there - selecting the name will jump directly to the text.

IMSMS NO LONGER USES PocketIE as the display. Versions 1.0.700 uses a custom display component that REDUCES your memory usage significantly compared to previous builds with pocketIE! You no longer have to worry about IMSMS' display component (pocketIE) eating up your valuable memory! It's not a memory leak however - your memory gets released when IMSMS exits but previous versions that included pocketIE will not do so unless you shutdown IMSMS - which was beyond my control.

Custom IMSMS Display component - finally removed PocketIE functionality - IMSMS does not rely on PocketIE to display the chat logs. The memory leaks within PocketIE are GONE!

Added Sound & Vibrate option - select from MENU->SETTINGS->PREFERENCES menu option. You will see a check box to VIBRATE + Sounds. When you have "Enable incoming/outgoing/missed messages" sounds playback enabled, vibration will also be played at the same time.

Added shortcut in menu - To switch between text entry box and chat log display (so you can scroll your text messages), simply select ACTION then the number '5' or select from the menu: ACTION->Text Entry/Message Log Mode - it will switch between the text entry box and the message display (so you can scroll) automatically

Fixed Dynamic Alerts icon issue - on occasion, when receiving incoming messages, the incoming message icon will overwrite the dynamic alert nofication envelope (orange/green/red) icons.

(Version 1.0.600) (PPC): Added AUTO AWAY TIME - Select from the ACTION->MANAGE->AWAY->EDIT AWAY MESSAGES menu option. There is a new feature "Auto Set Away (Minutes)" that allows you to set a time (in minutes) of when IMSMS will automatically set itself away - and respond with a default away message you choose. AUTO AWAY STARTS the timer the moment when you STOP texting when enabled.

(Version 1.0.600) (PPC): Added Sound & Vibrate option - select from MENU->SETTINGS->PREFERENCES menu option. You will see a check box to VIBRATE + Sounds. When you have "Enable incoming/outgoing/missed messages" sounds playback enabled, vibration will also be played at the same time.

Yes, you have to add friends - but only when you want to send messages - receiving is automatic.

I installed v1.07, but still the same.....new sms went directly to default sms application. When I opened IMSMS, I couldnt read the new sms.

Hi DSO, two problems with the last version
a.) the NoteBox at portrait mode didn´t displayed the whole typed message because of the window of the sp. at landscape mode the counter and the black message box displayed the whole message.
b.) the TextBox shows a corner; within this corner the incoming message is displayed. But i couldn´t scroll with the corner to see the whole message.
This happens since your lasted version versions before works.

Please take another look at the Release Notes/Help Tutorial -

The image you have just shows that IMSMS has registered itself to AUTO START. However, you are missing the KEYS - the image I provided on the home site shows you that you must CREATE KEYS under the \Rules path in your registry.

After you create the two missing KEYS, they appear like yellow folders under the \Rules path in your registry. You then right click each folder, then CREATE NEW DWORD values. You don't have to name them "PostProcess", you can leave blank but each value of the DWORD must be 1

Please make sure you have the correct registry path as well. Just because you have a \Rules key folder doesn't mean you are at the right path. If you are receiving messages in IMSMS, then you have the proper keys created - check the \Program Files\IMSMS\EngError.txt file (or post that file here). It will tell you if what is registered, what isn't. IN your case, I am presuming you MAY have SMS Notify on.

Also make sure you do not have orphaned installed files still on your device/memory card. When you first install IMSMS, you select a destination (either your device's memory or an external storage card). If you chose your device the first time, then installed later on a memory card, you may still have lingering IMSMS.exe still on your device. THis affects the AUTO START feature.

I tried to locate above entries, what I saw was different entries. Should I delete the entries that I saw & replace with above entries? Will it harmful for my device?

Hi DSO, two problems with the last version
a.) the NoteBox at portrait mode didn´t displayed the whole typed message because of the window of the sp. at landscape mode the counter and the black message box displayed the whole message.
b.) the TextBox shows a corner; within this corner the incoming message is displayed. But i couldn´t scroll with the corner to see the whole message.
This happens since your lasted version versions before works.

For smartphones, it is designated to be run in LANDSCAPE MODE ONLY. There is no option to "rotate" for smartphone devices (at least not on HTCS620). For PPC, you can orient the screen.

For your device, portrait mode is NOT SUPPORTED. IT will have to be compiled to a specific version (portrait mode) - I'll post up a new build for portrait users - when Version 1.1 is released (end of month).

IMSMS was tested on Taiwan PPC pro ROM. Please send me an email with your problems - I can help you out with this for I have helped other multi-language users -

THe screen shot is unique because it shows you that running with an IME on the smartphone's will work with IMSMS - using a genuine language ROM works for sure - it is when you have an ENGLISH ROM but want multi-language support such as CE Star IME - with that installed, you can send/receive in native Chinese languages.

Thank you for your email - this issue has now been resolved in 1.0.716 - for both PPC/Smartphones - due to the new component being used, it was a trivial bug that remained when I had to remove the old code that used pocketIE.

You can jump between the TEXT entry input field and the MESSAGE LOG (to scroll your messages) - simply place your cursor IN THE TEXT AREA FIRST -
then hit: ACTION->5 (for a quick shorcut) OR ACTION->TEXT ENTRY/MESSAGE LOG mode).

Placing your cursor IN THE FRIENDS LIST and using this ACTION->5 will jump to the TEXT ENTRY FIELD ONLY. However, once you are on the TEXT ENTRY, hitting the ACTION->5 will jump to the MESSAGE LOG. When you are done scrolling your text, hitting ACTION->5 will jump back to the text entry, vice versa etc.

This is written in the RELEASE NOTES/FAQ/Help Tutorial :)

This is EASY to get working with CEStar or ANY IME software on your device:

Under MENU->SETTINGS->SET REGION

You can try to set your REGION to Chinese (Hong Kong) or similar FIRST. If you cannot get it to SET properly (region code not supported), you can

SELECT THE VERY LAST selection in that REGION LIST: NON-SPECIFIC REGION
first if you are using an IME

This will allow your device to use the proper encoding when using your IME software. I'm very sure it will work fine - because this has been thoroughly tested already. Good luck :) Email me if you have issues.

Hi,

If your device supports a specific REGION, you may select it from this menu option. What it does is correct all formatting such as DATE and TIME when your messages are displayed. For example, in the USA, we use date formats such as:

Month/Day/Year and Time such as: (5:53 PM).

In other countries, they use Day/Month/Year and (17:53).

another example is Chinese would use a different format for their time as well. SEtting the region in IMSMS will allow for different formats. Also, if you are using an IME, it is best to set to the language your IME software sets. If you are using CEStar or similar IME software on your device, set the region code CLOSEST to what you expect - so for CHINESE, you should select CHINESE (Hong Kong). Remember that NOT ALL region codes are supported on your device - if it fails (gives you a message about region not supported), it defaults back to English (United States) - simply reselect another region code.

You may also want to select the very last region code: NON-SPECIFIC REGION if you are using IME software but cannot get a specific region code to set. This will ensure that you can use your IME software properly as a last resort.

according to what you said,but .bad information still is presented that means chinese is not able to display the interface of you software. l think what happened acount for a few of reasons.
1.because my device installed wm6 of English version.so that originally this system do not includes code of chinese ,whatever patchs of chinese are inserted into WM6 by me.
2.if only my device will installing a originally chinese window mobile 6,
those errors could be solved.

There's much revisions internally - if you encounter any issues, let me know.

Here's what's new:


Revision #3 Dynamic Alerts: Revised internal dynamic alerts code - some users experienced dynamic alerts triggers (the orange/green/red envelope notification icons) when simply switching between friends via the friends list box. This is now fixed.

Added custom incoming ringtone: IMSMS now supports custom ringtones (selectable from the contacts menu) - when assigned, IMSMS will auto play the assigned ringtone for the friend who sends you a message. IMSMS will auto stop ALL music playing within 5 seconds

Revised internal database engine: internal revisions - transparent to users

Revised Call Friend (function) - IMSMS will now bring up a contacts page for each friend you wish to call via the ACTION->MANAGE->CALL FRIEND menu option. You can then select a task to perform (call, message, etc.) just like the system contact dialog.

Revised Audio playback - on windows mobile 5 devices, certain custom sound options even if selected will NOT playback - IMSMS will result to playing the default synchronous audio sample instead.



Yes, those who have asked for custom ringtones, here it is for you. Version 1.0.730 will auto cut the music playback within 5 seconds. Future versions will allow custom time on playback.

Custom ringtones for each friend is set in your system profiles - if you have a contact added for that friend in your system phone book, in the contacts manager, you should be able to select a ringtone for that person. IMSMS uses the same ringtone you set for the system contact.

Those who have issues when scrolling your friends list (with dynamic alerts/icons ) showing up for no reason, this revision completely restructures the way dynamic alerts are handled. Give this one a go.

Windows Mobile 5 users may not be able to play custom sounds. If this is the case, IMSMS will default to synchronous playback of the default internal sounds. WIndows mobile 5 users still have vibration option though - windows mobile 6 users have it all.

You have 3 options to show your incoming messages:

1) Use dynamic alerts - the MENU->ALERTS will show you the senders - just click on any and it will jump to that sender

2) Use MENU->CHAT LOGS->ENABLE MSG INSTANT UPDATE - it will show you all incoming messages overwriting your current view

3) Use ONE VIEW - enable it via the MENU->SETTINGS->PREFERENCES->One View Chat Log option. This will enable all messages to arrive in one standard view - while still retaining all threaded conversations INDIVIDUALLY when exiting this mode.

hi dso im currently looking into your program but i have an few questions first. i currently using the palm threaded app and well that doesnt support mms. so now my ? is does your program support mms? yes ive read it and it says it does. but how does it work exactly. does it come in through like a normal phone would or does it come in a link and you have to connect to internet to see the picture. like the default setting. (i have sprint mogul by the way) also do you have to have any other program to get mms to work. such as the arcsoft program? and another ? i have is if i do install this program will it automatically erase my palm threaded app for me or will i start recieveing all my sms in both your program and the other one. i would install the palm app but i cant. seems impossible. ive tried everything. so if your program will do that for me that will be great. also last important thing is if i decide to uninstall it off my device can i? unlike this palm app. do you have an uninstall option and if i do uninstall it will it set me back to the default mogul sms or will it send me back to the palm one!?

any compatablity with the tilt aka kaiser aka 8925, currenlt palm messenging does not support MMS functionality and though there is a rather crude way of getting it to work its not practical. Does your app replecate the threaded function of sms like palm and give us full mms capability on a network like att for the tilt? thanks.

having an issue, just downloaded the new version and it gets "stuck" when sending/recieving. The mailbox icons simply sit at the top of the screen but nothing happens. Ive used IMSMS before (older versions) and they seemed to work fine. Maybe a problem with this new version?

Two issues/questions:
1) I updated to the newest build for PPC, and now when I start the program, I get an error message: "Error encountered loading d....". When I press OK to clear the message, it loads IMSMS, but my friends list is blank. I uninstalled and reinstalled, along with deleting the IMSMS folder. I readded a couple of Friends to check to see if the problem was still there, and it is.

2) Right before this problem started up, I got an SMS from a number that was not in my Friends list, nor in my contacts. I knew IMSMS had received it, because it auto-started when the message came in (I was expecting it, so I was watching the PPC). However, the message did not appear in 1-view, and the only way I could read it was to open up the Chat History view.

I just downloaded the newest version and put it on my Blackjack II. I really like the app, but there's one bug that is really irking me: if you're sent a message from AIM, it adds it as a friend, but screws up the rest of the friends list. So when I save, and the AIM IDs are in there, it will not load my friends list when I re-open the app.

So in order to fix it, I have to go into the data file, and delete those friends every time. Is there a workaround?

This version 1.0.732 does have new safeguarding features not in previous versions. It's always best to shutdown and restart your device after you install a new version. Sometimes you will get erratic glitches in Windows Mobile if you do not do this step.

As for sending messages, please try the ACTION-SEND MESSAGE->Choose contact from this menu:

FIRST, write a text message in the text entry box: THEN SELECT THE FOLLOWING:

this is a new feature you can send messages directly to anyone without setting up a friends list.

THOSE THAT WANT MMS - Good luck - sorry, no support -

REASON is that MMS is different from SMS - there is no defined protocols on how to manage mms- it is different depending on device - and there's no one stop shop software to handle this unless the software was designed to work with the device from the beginning - developer works with the OEM in order to create it for the specific device.

There's no "standard" provisioning like there is with SMS - provisioning meaning how to handle the message/display the message, etc.

You can try to hack it to work for one device, but it's not guaranteed like SMS how it will work on another device.

So to sum it up, NO, IMSMS will not work with MMS nor does it try to. It does however free your own device's MMS management software - that way you get to work with MMS while using IMSMS.

Also NOTE:

When you delete the data.dat file (located in the \My Documents\IMSMS\data.dat

folder, you will reset your data storage path as well. This means that the previous location of your chat logs is pointing to the default path. Be aware - this will cause your logs to seem to disappear as well. It hasn't. Just reset the data storage path (if you have changed to a different storage path) after you delete your data.dat file.

And after you do RESET your data path, be sure to restart IMSMS as well (saving the settings/data). The next time it loads, it will also load the set data storage path for your chat logs.

Previous versions included some optimizations that REMOVED critical pieces of functional code (see release notes) I am very unpleased with this because this was not expected :mad:

However, please give the new version a go - I have run it thru the emulator a few times to ensure working order.

.33 new version works now. Only issue im still having is its not properly catching SMS, its still going to the stock poutlook box. Im the errorlog file its saying SMS_notify unregistered every time i guess which is right as i have sms notify unchecked, but i do have auto display and auto start checked. the program still wont start up on incoming text and the incoming sms arent logged in it.

If you haven't already done so, go ahead and shutdown/then restart your device - normally, this will allow the hooks to work properly. If the previous versions worked for you, there's no reason this version doesn't work - I've gotten many feedbacks via email the 1.0.733 works fine now.

Yes, you have to add friends - but only when you want to send messages - receiving is automatic.

There's many features built into the software - more than meets the eye.

I cannot tell you what to do on your new Sprint HTC Touch - I do not own an HTC Touch on Sprint network therefore I cannot test for you - if the hooks are not registering, it simply means that your registry may have other keys that cause the messages to NOT be passed to other applications registering their sms hooks properly.

Unless I get my hands on an actual hardware, I cannot know for sure which keys does what (if that is even your case at all).

edit: I do have a .reg (registry file) available for you to use - it's off the release notes area - you can try it because it does indeed setup the correct GUID's to work. You may want to back up your registry FIRST - deleting all the keys within the rules folder. Then import the .reg file.

I tried this and it winds up getting the conatct info onto the screen, but not actaully into the box where the mobile number needs to go (see attached screen shot).

One request for future release....can we get rid of the top bar icon that turns on when you use One Chat view? It doesn't really need to be something I see no matter what app I am in.

IMSMS is great, but its erroring out whenever I receive a text from someone sending a text to me via email. Any one else have this problem? This is on a HTC Mogul on Sprint.

I get the following:

An unexpected error has occurred in IMSMS.exe. Select quit and then restart this program, or details for more info. An error message cannot be displayed because an optional resource assembly containing it cannot be found.

DSO, love the program and have followed it from page 1. This newest version, when I get a new text, it doesn't show the text or who it's from in the box at the top, it just lists the first person (alphabetically) in my friends list and shows no new message. I then have to scroll through all the friends to find the message and who sent it?

Occasionally I'll send a message and it won't go through. I get a message from IMSMS that there's been a problem and that the message I was trying to send is stored in Drafts......maybe I am just not looking correctly, but I have searched all over for where a Drafts folder or log might be within IMSMS and I haven't had any luck. Where do the messages get stored if they don't go through right away?

This is my first time trying IMSMS. It's an interesting piece of application.

I've encounter some wierd beahviour. So far,

1) IMSMS doesn't auto start when there's an incoming SMS
- I've already select this auto start feature
[edit: seems to work now]

2) When I view the SMS in default inbox, and then launch IMSMS, the new sms did not get update in the IMSMS

3) When I add a new friend, the current list of smses with another person became the new friend's. When I turn to the original person I'm smsing with, the log of sms disappeared.

4) When there's a SMS comes in, IMSMS will auto start but it will show the name of the 1st contact instead of the person who sms me.

5) Unable to turn off outgoing sound, although under setting it's been unchecked. = (

6) After I checked the option to notify other application of SMS, even now that I unchecked it, the default sms notification will still come up.

Where can one actually find skins for IMSMS? I've seen talk about it but never actually found any anywhere on the net. Do they exist? I'd like to be able to use one with the text entry box at the bottom, and the newest messages also appearing at the bottom like classic MSN Messenger style, instead of everything upside down. Does such a customized skin exist anywhere?

Happy New Year XDA members - I hope this new year will bring much joy and good health to everyone!

First things first - I was on long vacation - but my gmail did not set the auto vacation - so I guess everyone just thought I died or something.

The last builds on the IMSMS home site was the last stable revision. I am contemplating on continuing with this project since Microsoft is releasing Windows Mobile 6.1 due this february (or within the month). There are supposedly new "fixed" features - and of course, development api improved. The update will include a new SMS threading application - from the pictures seen, I will tell you it sucks. It's very generic and does not offer anything aside from just getting your messages threaded.

I am putting IMSMS on hold until WM6.1 is released - I don't know the # of users for IMSMS - but I do know there are many.

For new users, sprint mogul users, and others - please review the website's FAQ and HELP guide section - all the answers are there - I've received numerous emails asking the same questions: "how to fix mogul keyboard issue", etc. It's all in the FAQ/Help guides.

As for technical revisions, I will try to push out 1.1 with group send features soon. I am just getting back into the groove so it may be a bit longer.

I want to thank you all for the support - hope your holiday was grand and keep using your Windows Mobile devices - and also please email Microsoft WIndows Mobile team (look on the windows mobile website) and complain about how crappy the UI is. That's all I have to say - I'll be back later...

Hello everyone. I've been using imsms for 2 days and it functions perfectly on my blackjack II. I mean it is great, handy and fun! Excuse the excitement. My main question is,is it possible to get rid of the beep when I send messages? I disabled the option in settings and saved, and still it makes a beep still. Thanks for the help.

Nevermind, it was a system sound, I had to mute it. But another program can you add is, the option of playing the full tone when a message is received, because mine are only 30 seconds long, so i'd rather here the whole thing than 5 seconds.

Also, is there a fix so that when Im on the phone, i won't have to hear the tone too, because i can't hear what the other person is saying.

These two previous stated options/fix would be great, if possible of course.

How can I make IMSMS vibrate when I receive a message and do nothing when sending a message? The closest I have come to this is switching to "Vibrate Only" (option 6 in the Menu), but then the phone vibrates when sending too. Any ideas?

When a new message appears from a contact other than the one in view, the message received icon appears up top, then they quickly disappear and the dynamic alerts never appear in the alerts menu option.

I am using an HTC Tytn with the default HTC WM6 Rom. I have unchecked "Enable Msgs Instant Update". OneChat is off. Emoticons are on. Incoming Message Sound is off. Outgoing is off. Missed Message Alert is off. Vibrate and Sounds is on. Contact Ring tone is on. Auto Display is off. SMS Notify other apps is off. Auto Start is off. Confirm save is on. Custom Sound is on.

I have been using IMSMS on the dash for a while, been ghosting this forum, and have now been using IMSMS ppc on my wing since December.
I must say this is a lifesaver of an app, especially since I am not much of a WM fan but that is all we support.
I can't wait for your next release as the group send will be over the top.

hi there. thanks for this wonderful app, its what i have always wanted just one question. why are the emoticons not showing? i saw a post two pages back and someone else had the same issue. im running the latest version of imsms in my athena/ameo/advantage in realvga mode (96 dpi) and it looks great just the bug that the emoticons are not in the display box hope you can fix this.

Symbol counter near the text input field:
1. is updated only when the space is pressed, unlike in Outlook (updated after every key is pressed)
2. is displaying incorrect total number of symbols when unicode symbols are typed in (it should display "1/70", "2/70" and so on, but not "1/160")

As far as I am aware this thread is now dead and the developer has walked away.

For me this tool was a fantastic idea made real by the developer. However I never got it to run correctly on my device despite weeks of testing and interfacing with the developer. I have not received any direct replies from the developer for some time now.

It is a pity it wasn't finished off as this application has such huge potential but there you have it.

Then again, I guess if you really want threaded sms with the function of MMS, might as well cook a 6.1 rom instead...

This a great program, one where it was developed by user for user AND for free! I have never seen such dedication on a free software, thank you DSO/IMSMS.

I have been searching for a threading sms software, found many but most did not work on my device(samsung i620/WM 6 standard 320x240). This is the only free application which works(probably because it does not rely on PIE). I have found other software for my threading need, but comes at a steep price(for me anyway). I really do like SMS at hand, but just can't bare myself to sell out $30 for software which it's function is already standard on many OS. SMS at hand is very stable but for $30 it is no where near IMSMS's function, which is free! I am still surprised as to why the stock OS(WM6) does not have any audio/vibrate notification for missed calls/sms/mms/etc...
