According to this article, "HTC also announced a new colour-way and a free, full-screen virtual keypad download for the original HTC Touch."

Anyone know where to get this from?

This is an excellent SIP and fully customizable. One thing though, does anyone else have an issue whereby hitting enter in full screen mode does not introduce line feeds when you come back to your document?

This isn´t the official HTC Keyboard.
I hope HTC will post it soon on their site,
so i can see what keyboard they are offering
us.....
This keyboard seems nice, but i´ll stick to the
the pocketCM keyboard i´m currently using,
and wait for the HTC keyboard.
that´s my 50 cts.

I don´t really have that much information. You will be able to download it on the htc e-club site: www.europe.htc.com but i don´t know when. That wasn´t mentioned.
I´ve got a MDA Touch so i can´t register my phone, somebody who has the original HTC Touch will have to register and keep us up to date for when it is available, and post it on this site for us. :) For the people with a MDA Touch.

Just checked the Europe HTC E-Club site, still no download there (I have registered my Touch/Elf there ;)). Hoping for an update tomorrow some time.

EDIT: Mind you, the keypad looks really promising. I'm finding Phonepad just a tad too small for my fingers, so this might seem to be the perfect pad. Can't wait. :)

The Software is a bit older now, I think from 2005.
As you can see in the manual, the requirements are:

Windows Mobile 2003
2002 for Pocket PC.
So perhaps this soft is not WM5 or WM6 Compatible.

Hope that HTC will soon release their new Virtual Keyboard for the Touch II

I just installed it on my Touch. So far I like it better than PCM Keyboard. It is real fast if you are typing a message and letting it auto correct. It is a bit clunky if you are typing a web address. When you type a (.) and then type edu, com, etc, it thinks you are typing everything all over again.

Unfortunately I cannot install it on my Touch - probably because mine is the Dutch rom ?!

I cán install (tried both on SD and main memory; also a soft reset after installation) but the moment I select Touchpal from the list nothing happens.

When trying to change keyboard settings in the settings menu, I can select it, but when I try to select the options - or in case after selecting the OK button I get an error message : selected inputmode can not be loaded (free translation from Dutch;))

Anyone with a non-english/wwe rom tried to install and got it working?

actually touchpal resolved this issue by:
1) precisely input mode. you can go to help/option view to select precise input mode. what's cooler, you also can enable/disable it simply by sliding BACKSPACE button up and release. super cool.
2) you can disable "auto append space" in option too. and what's cooler, sliding SPACE button down and release has the same effect.

fantastic stuff.

I'm pretyy sure (i got a feeling)

That the new Keybaord will probaply be in the Ext rom for new Duo Touch.

So we just have to wait for some owner to get to XDA.

Use the attached UniExt Rom Unlocker on his device. And then use Total Commander to browse to \Extended_rom and copy all the files and post the to XDA. So if any of yous knows someone with new touch.

A fuck it i'll ask at XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.com he has one.

Easy: The SIP expects the application in th "Program Files" folder. since your device is not english (as mine) you should open up your device with a file explorer (e.g. Resco Explorer), create a folder called "Program Files" and copy the TouchPal folder from you application folder (e.g. "Programme" on my german device) to the new folder "Program Files". Then it should work - probably a restart.

Nice work but this is just the Phone Pad that allready existed.

Not the new version with QW/ER/TY lay out in the options.

So we just have to wait a bit longer......

Well is Cootek is patended Pending and Waiting till some sort of 8 december date. And also HTC is waiting till the end of the month the two might have some connection don't you think? Or maybe a licensing agreement? Or maybe they are totally unrelated and the dates being so closely similar mean nothing at all?

the memory required is 2mb.... will stick to my happy tapping keyboard first...until the official htc one is out

PDAMedia KBD actually works really well for me. If anyone wants to change the colour scheme to match the default theme, go to Settings > Input - Select PDAMedia KBD and hit Options. Go to the option 6 which is Adjust Colours and use the left most setting for the colour wheel.

No, sorry. It will not work well with replacing the user dictionary with a german standard one. Tried that this weekend. I talked to the guys at cootek. They are considering international version. But well, it will be quite tough to implement the 4 extra letters "ä ö ü ß" from german into the nice 5-key layout.

I don't even really want that keys.
"ae" for ä and so on would work for me, too.
But a german dictionary/vocabulary would be nice.

I guess Cootek will offer an international version when you have to pay for it :)

Noonski , has made a rom with the Keyboard as an OEM package, he has also posted the package ( see link), Be warned, that this is an OEM Package and not an .cab file.

Is there anyone who can make a cab for this ?

AFAIK, The cab file has the setup.xml, which specfies the folders and the registry setting for install, where as the OEM package has the folder as they are ( ie. it simply contains all the files, w/o explicit info about paths etc.

I could be wrong, but thats as far as I Know :D

Oem package is what you use when you cook a Rom so the apps are prebuild into OS. You can specify where to copy files using oem package put that's mostly a waste of Space.

And it's a very early Release from HTC with some Minor Bugs (they might be related with ripping the app, but id doesn't look like it)

I'm wating For Cooks Feedback to see how it works on other devices, and to see if any workarounds can be found for the bugs.

I've tried looking in the registry but don't have the same files as suggested in the docs. I'm using the english version...

Have you tried SipChange?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271008

There is also another called Default_IM_WM5.CAB (also works on WM6)

downloadable as part of the Happy Tapping Keyboard, but you can use it separately.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296455

(you are installing to main memory? - most SIPs will only work properly in main memory)

thanks for your reply marisa.

for some weird reason today when I was playing around with my phone some how the touchpal keyboard appeared!!

i found out I clicked that little arrow next to the keyboard. now I am able to switch between them that way because in the settings screen I can't change it permanently but seems to work the other way. :)

now if only the 'slide to unlock' mod could be finished for out phone :)

If you use either of the applications I linked to, then your chosen SIP will appear after every soft reset.

Glad you got that sorted out anyway!

*edit* found the solution to blank keyboard in some apps, have to copy the contents of more.zip (all language files) and put them in, then it'll work.

Downside is that the current phonepad is 990kb (english only), the touch dual cab as it stands is 1.5mb +1.7mb= 3.2mb to do the same thing. Plus the custom dictionary files *.cdb & *.rdb are not editting friendly in text editors on both the ppc and pc. will skip for now, too much custom words to import over (700 over words) without the ability to modify on the PC.

********************
Thanks for the htc keyboard cab, but i've found some anomalies.

while it works as intended in the messaging app and poutlook,
when using it in resco explorer, the keypad/keyboard gets jumbled up and hence i can't use it to rename files etc.

Am using it on PDAviet's 12G rom

Then upload the rom.nbh or OS.nbh file and post the link to this thread or:

Or the easy method.

Copy all the Content from your device to folder on computer (yes not all files will copy)
Zip and upload those files.

You would really help out other people also working on the new Apps.

And there will probaply be updated DLL files for other HTC apps in this seemingly official update to Touch.

Works great in original sms manager and other default-installed applications, but does't work when running pocketCM.
When i try writing an sms using pocketCM, always appears the full keyboard (the one with only one letter on each key). I choose "Touch keyboard".
I would like to use the 20 key keyboard (2 letter each key).
If i choose "Touch keypad" appears the t9 keyboard (just like phonepad) and it works.

Another big wish: HUNGARIAN support!

It's even more annoying that we don't have nor Danish neither Hungarian because I know that the Smartphone's XT9 sytem (for HTC Vox and Excalibur) DOES HAVE both languages with proper dictionary, etc.

That is a pretty good sip! (and free for now :) )

Hello,

Touchpal made me hardreset the device because of the uninstall problem.

I saw a better keyboard on a forum:

I wonder what keyboard is it, and where can I download it from?

I use both Touchpal and SPB FSK. Touchpal (and similar keyboards) is great for 1 handed use. Keep FSK mapped to the camera button and you can use it anytime you want - longer messages, etc.

Hi Guys,

I've just got a newsletter with a link to an interesting keyboard.

There are two version there, looking very similar, one's free, and the other is the PRO version and seems to do more. The link was:

http://www.fingertouchpro.com/

The guy in the video seems to type really fast with it, I was thinking that it would run well on my Axim's large screen. I'll let you know my first impressions after I install it. :)

Cheers!
