I've been running the Sprint ROM with the Alltel radio for a couple of days now (since SSPL came out), and haven't noticed much of a difference...

How do you pull just the radio flash out? I knew how to do it on my 6700 but not the mogul...

Never mind I found it.....

I may have to retract that statement - don't know if it's the network or the radio update, but my data speeds were significantly better last night while on the outskirts of coverage...

Found it where? Can you please post how you flashed the Alltel Radio on the Mogul without flashing the whole ROM? I don't want to do a hard reset.

What kind of speeds? I'm on the original rom/radio and get around 1049kb/s with the dslreports mobile speed test. Without Rev.A I don't see it getting any faster than that...

I will post a file with just the radio rom for you and even give you the step by step instructions.... but just to make sure, you have flashed olipro's hard-spl, correct?

No, because that thing requires you to lose all the data on your phone. I just did an SPB Full Backup, but I don't feel like restoring everything on my phone now just for this.

Flashing olipro’s hard spl will not require you to do a hard reset and will not erase all of your data.

First thing’s first. Go and get the hard-spl file from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332381

sync your device with your computer via activesync and run the titanunlocker.exe you just downloaded. Complete EVERY STEP. Make sure you when you get to the screen that states:

Current information about your PDA Phone:

Image Version: [this will be blank & that’s fine]

Select from below:

(button)UPDATE : Update the current ROM Version

Click the UPDATE BUTTON

Now it should say on your computer:

Current information about your PDA Phone:

From:
Image Version: [this will be blank & that’s fine]

To:
Image Version: Titan-Hard-SPL

Click NEXT and finish up the rom update utility. Once it’s completed you’re likely to be stuck at the bootloader screen. Performing a standard soft reset (soft boot) will not work, yet…

Now, download the file I’ve attached called mtty.zip and unpack it to your desktop. Before you can use the mtty.exe file successfully you will need to open activesync on your computer and disable the usb connection. The easiest way to do this is by right-clicking on the activesync icon in your system tray of your desktop and selecting “Connection Settings…”. Then un-check the second box “Allow USB Connections”. Click OK and then click close out of activesync.

Now go to the program you just downloaded and unpacked to your desktop and double click on the mtty.exe

Once it opens, change the “Port:” to USB (tip: it’s the last one in the list). Then click OK. You should now have a Large Grey Window open on your desktop with a white windows inside of it.

Press the ENTER key on your keyboard two times and then type the following:

Set 16 0

And hit enter
Now, unplug your phone and press the soft-reset button and it should reboot and all your information will still be there.

If you’ve done everything correctly, you have now flashed to the olipro spl and we can start on the radio rom.

RADIO ROM:

Start by opening activesync on your desktop and changing the connection settings back to “Allow USB Connections” (if you’re not sure how to do this, refer to the earlier explanation of how to disable the USB). Once you’ve changed the connection settings back to “Allow USB Connections” plug your device back into your USB cord and it should activesync like normal.

Now, download the Radio.zip file I attached below and unpack it to your desktop.

Before we can flash the radio to your phone, you will first need a ROM update utility. Well, you already have one.

Run the TitanUnlocker.exe file again (the one you used to flash the olipro’s hard-spl earlier). This time, don’t complete every step. After the initial “DISCLAIMER” screen pops up and you click yes, you will see the screen that says “Unlock” on it. Click unlock and you’re device will be place back in bootloader mode. NOW STOP! Don’t continue on with anything else yet.

Click on “My Computer” on your desktop. Select “Local Disk C:”. You will see a file called “TempTtn”. Right click this folder and select “copy” and then go paste a copy of the folder on your desktop.

Now, go back to the TitanUnlocker.exe that is still running on your computer and close it. You may get an error on the computer, just close out and ignore it.

Now take the file that you downloaded and extracted from the RADIO.zip I’ve attached and place it in the “TempTtn” folder you’ve just pasted on your desktop. It will ask you if you want to overwrite the file already in the folder. Click YES.

Now, your phone should still be in bootloader mode and attached to the USB.

Open the TempTtn folder on your desktop and run the RomUpdateUtility.exe

Continue through each screen and when you get to the screen with the button that says “Update”, click it. The screen should now say

From:
Image Version: [this will be blank & that’s fine]

To:
Image Version: 1.40RadioRom

Click next and continue the flashing processes. Once the flash completes, unplug the USB cable and press the soft reset key. If you’re stuck in bootloader, run the mtty.exe tool like we did earlier and then soft reset and you’re done.

Congratulations, you’re radio has now been flashed to 1.40 and all of your data should still be on your phone.

EDIT: I keep getting errors when trying to upload the radio.zip file to the xda site. You can download the Radio.zip file from here:

I am also getting some better numbers.

Before the update roughly ~580kbs top
After Alltel Flash (full flash) - 1408kbs top.

Not all are that fast obviously, but that was the highest so far, and I've had several 800's. Whether or not it's do to the radio being better, getting better reception, or just getting on the line when no one else was downloading / surfing who knows, but I have noticed it is better.

Yep, that definitely screwed up my phone. I'm stuck at the colored gradient page now and can't connect to it with my computer. Oh well.

follow the instructions on how to use the mtty.exe tool.... this WILL FIX IT WHEN STUCK AT THE BOOTLOADER.

I outlined this in the instructions...

1. open activesync and click on the "File" pull-down menu.
2. select "Connection Settings"
3. Uncheck the 2nd box "allow USB connections".
4. close activesync.
5. attach phone to usb
6. run the mtty.exe program
7. select "USB" as the PORT: and click OK
8. press the ENTER key on your key board 1 or 2 times
9. type the following exactly
set 16 0

then press ENTER again

10. unplug the phone from the USB
11. press the soft-reset button with the stylus.
12. YOU'RE DONE! PHONE SHOULD REBOOT!

After spending hours trying to get this to flash properly, my phone couldn't perform any worse. There is no change in my signal, running at around -85db in my house but my internet maxes out at 300kb and takes forever to do ANYTHING.

I am very disappointed to find this to be the case.

Thanks, I can follow directions, that didn't fix it. It wouldn't connect to the software. I ended up going home and doing a recovery with the stock firmware.

Oh, but I'm trying it again of course. ;) Already lost everything now, might as well. I'm just gonna try flashing the entire Alltel firmware this time.

Reflashed the entire Alltel ROM onto my Mogul and it works just fine. I'll need to get it loaded back up to where I had it before before I can really tell if it's a big improvement.

Glad it all worked out for you in the end... My guess is that the mtty.exe wouldn't connect to the phone with the USB port due to activesync. Occasionally, even after setting my connection settings in activesync to not allow usb connections, mtty won't connect. a quick reboot of the desktop computer fixed it

later

Well, I'm also on Vista, so throw that in as one more wrench in the system. I never got mtty to work. I just flash HardSPL then used the Alltel ROM package to install their ROM. Worked well enough, I was about ready to clean out the phone anyway. My contacts are always backed up on my computer and my important files on my storage card, so no big deal.

Hey, how bout them them Sooners? (Now I get it, you sabotaged my phone haha) :D

First, thanks for all the work you put in to make this available to the masses. I think the instructions may not be complete or correct though. I followed the instructions exactly (three times just to be sure) but when I get to this bit:

Open the TempTtn folder on your desktop and run the RomUpdateUtility.exe

Continue through each screen and when you get to the screen with the button that says “Update”, click it.

the application can't find my device so I never get to the "Update" button. Yes, my USB setting on Activesync is where it needs to be. Everything else worked as advertised.

Are you guys on Vista?

I used to have trouble doing this stuff on my Cingular 8125 (wizard) with Vista, but it would work just fine with XP. Just a thought.

hmm...ok

I'll try it this evening on my phone, as I've been wanting to do this as well. My reception is terrible inside my house, so maybe it will do the trick. I used to put new roms on my wizard a couple of times a month. Maybe something will pop out at me as to what we're doing wrong.

For those of you on Vista... you need legacy XP drivers to get MTTY or titan_exitbl to connect. I have attached these to this post. You will need to use the "Have Disk" method to install this driver in place of the stock Vista mobile device sync one. If you do it correctly, the driver date will be 10/06/2004. Connect mTTY and try again.

I think I did something wrong but now when I get to the update it shows titan-hard-spl or something like that and when I extracted the radio into the tempttn it didnt overwrite anything. The name of the file in the zip is RADIO, is it suppose to something else? Thanks in advance

NM I got the radio file from PPC geeks and it works.

The PPCGeeks method (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=9525&highlight=alltel+radio&page=2) worked for me. You can't beat download and click for ease of use.

I get the same exact thing. No file overwritten. And it never shows the 1.40Radio deal.

Can someone upload the file here? PPCGeeks has been down all day with 500 Internal Server errors.

Oh well.. I just installed the Alltel ROM since I need to redo my phone anyways after installing all kinds of apps when I first got the phone.

Since, I'm in an area where the EVDO on the Sprint side is actually served from the Alltel towers I figured what's better than have a Alltel phone for the Alltel tower right? Night and day difference on the EVDO speed. I used to top out at 200k during the day and maybe 700k at night. I'm hitting 1100k at night and 700k during the day. Very nice! I can watch all my videos via Orb with ZERO issues now.
