I've downloaded the cheetah unlocker but the issue i'm having is that it gets stuck on the bootloader.

Any ideas on why this is happening?
I'm just trying to flash the phone so I can upgrade to 6.1

I had the same issue and then i realized that mine was already unlocked and hard spl. So i just intalled the upgrade and it work perfectly.

I feel your pain. Trying to install this on a friends 750, It gets thru the first part, gets the error and never completes part 2 to move on to part 3.
Trying to get the upgrade(6.1) to function from the SD is not working either.

Also you will need to have the HardSPL installed which is Step 1 only of the CheetahUnlocker,

Strange problem.

I've updated to 6.0 from 5, no problems after doing Hard-SPL and updating with SD method.
Now that I'm trying to update to 6.1 with SD card method or even via Kaiser, the phone boots to multicolored and shows IPL 0.20 and SPL 0.24 and Serial at the bottom

maybe this helps someone. I had issues running the program in the intended way, failed in step 2. What I did:

After running step 1 (which worked fine for me) I copied the RUUWrapper.exe and the Cheetah_Patched.nbh from c:\Tempche
(files could be named different, can't check now, driveletter should be the one you ran it from). This should patch you some old radio.
Afterwards, copy athena_unlock.exe to the device, run it. Then continue with the Unlocker, you can then copy Cheetah_Restore.nbh from the c:\TempChe, and run that one with RUUWrapper.exe. This should give you radio 1.52.xx. After that everything was fine, phone unlocked.
If those files don't appear on your c:\TempChe folder, try running the Unlocker from Step 1, files are unpacked in some order. Though I never saw the two cab files that were mentioned here, maybe because Step 1 worked fine for me.

Hi, I tried to unlock my Cheetah device but I can't.
1) I tried with "dubravk0" thread and his MAGIC_UNLOCKER but it didn't works
2) I readed Olipro thread where he said that these unlocker was a potentially suicide and I think so.
3) Someone told me that Vodafone can gave me the unlock code and I finally have it. I try with this but device allways show me that I try to use several times and I have to wait, I waited more than 30minuts and nothing happen.
4) I install PALM WM6 Official Rom from Vodafone Spain and try again with step (3) but device still show me that I try to use several times and I have to wait.
5) Finally I used Olipro unlocker and follow step 1 and 2 and after that I try with other SIM but I receive the same message from the device. I don't know if I have to do Olipro step 3 because after step 2 I receive and error.

What I'm doing wrong?? Why I can't unlock my Cheetah??

after doing step 1 in the unlocker process is the spl supposed to be changed when you put it in the tri color screen. i do step 1 for installing hard spl but when i look it never says spl 1.4 olipro. what am i missing here?

for those trying to get hard spl to work. this is what i did. just delete the file named tempche in your c drive then run the unlocker process. hope this helps some. this is not my find. did a lot of reading. credit goes to someone else.

Hi folks, i have an treo750 and i hated because its have a lot of crashes, so thats the final of fusion a palm with wm :eek:, i donwload the cheeta unlocker to unlock my device, its works great with the step 1, in the step 2 its happeds some thing really weird, its says the radio was patched, but after reboot its steel in the 2 step i cant go to the 3 step :confused:, so i use the magicunlocker to unlock my device, but i really want to know how to fix this issue.

No way I could unlock the radio! It just installed the hard SPL and stoped there.

Every time it says 'congratulations! radio unlocked' but then I got an error message and it stays with the same radio version, only offer to unlock (as it was not done) and not to restore the radio. :mad:

I know this guies from Claro (company) are difficult but to unlock the Kaiser from them was no problem at all! :confused:

Any suggestions?

for those guys that can't unlock their phones, you need to patch the phone first with CheetahUnlocker (remenber need to have .NET framework 2.0), then run the Magic_Unlocker from the phone for be able unlock the SIM lock and CID,

If step 1 and 2 completed OK, you should be good to go.

What shows up for the SPL version when you go into your bootloader? (press the small reset button while holding the PTT/Windows Media button on the side)

For the heck of it, can you download the unlocker again and run through step 2 and 3 again? To be able to select them, select the bottom window of the unlocker and press "@". That should enable the step 2 and 3 buttons.

I am having difficulty unlocking mine. I dont have an issue with all the steps but my phone is still Locked.

Does my SIM card need to be in the phone while doing the unlock process? Following the 2 cheetah methods and then magic unlocker?

I had the same error 270 initially. But after I copied the 2 cab files, Cert_SPCS.cab and Cert_SPCS.cab, from c:\TempChe to my treo and ran them, all works fine. Running step1, 2 and no longer receives any errror.
I dont see any of those cabs in the tempche folder..am I missing something?

I tried to unlock my Treo, runing the CheetahUnlocker. Files instal on pda ok, but after reboot to bootloader in 1% crashed due 270 "Corrupted file". Now my pda doesn't load system. I tried to repeat the unlocking, when Treo is in bootloader, but it crashed in 7% due 270 again. The bootloader show following: IPL-0.20 SPL-0.24.0000 so it is still locked. I tried to flash from SD, but bootloader change to grey screen with Loading... but after while it returns back. Please help...

From the bootloader (three colour screen) push soft reset (only the pin near miniSD). If your new rom is correctly installed, the new windows mobile should load. Bootloader should apper only if you push volume button + reset pin. If your rom is broken and you cannot connect your device through Activesync, you can flash some new rom from your miniSD. How to do it, you can find on this web.

Now I tried renaming the nbh file from the TempChe dir to CHEEIMG.nbh and flash Hard SPL from card, read this in Hermes thread I think.. But it won't do anything in bootloader mode.. I think it's because of the SDHC (4GB card).. I have no idea why I can't get Hard SPL on my Treo :(

Finally I got it, took out the MiniSD and it works like a charm.. Now I got WM6.5 on my Treo :)

also when flashing cheetah needs card formated in fat32 but if used 4gig microSD would i still need to format cause msdn forums say sdhc = fat32 by deffintion. please help.

I hard resetted it and would usually expect to have the digitizer ask me to press with the stylus ...

It says that I've attempted the unlock 81 times, please wait until timeout. From what I gather, I'll have to wait a month with it on before I can unlock it. Do you have a utility to reset the unlock attempts?

I am interested in flashing a custom rom for my treo 750. I see that I need to update to hard-spl (as of thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-511763.html) for sure to upgrade to custom roms and maybe the radio, about the radio I still not sure if it is necessary, first of all, if somebody can tell me when it is necessary to change it that would be great .

In addition, my main question is how can I backup my current SPL and radio? I want to be prepared just in case something happens after upgrading to a new hard-spl and radio.

When I attempt to unlock my locked vodafone Treo 750 per the method mentioned in page 1, everything goes on the way, but the SIM unlock isn't happening. When I insert the SIM after running step 3, I get this:

The app is sim lock, and I can't go to any other window. By the way I can upgrade to wm 6 or downgrade to wm 5. As I see I can not upgrade the radio rom of the phone.

Hi guys, somehow something went wrong :-(
I have unfortunately now ipl 0.20 and spl 0.24 from treo again and a
corrupted radio (stuck in windowsmobile screen )
==> therefore can only flash signed images.
Have flashed the original stuff again, it said no probs, but radio is still corrputed and thus it will not boot up.
Any hints

the guide for the hermes with platform builder anf kitl I cant do, as it wont connect, probaly becasue I dont know what the comm key on the treo is,
probaly the cheetah is somehow different.

Can anyone help ?

Having trouble getting the Step 1 to work with ATT Treo 650 running TREO750-1.13-ATT. Keep getting 260 error at the status bar. Have done a hard reset on my phone at this point but no change.

Using the cheetahUnlocker from the xda ftp site and have athena_unlock.exe and CHEEIMG.nbh from the Treo750UnlockFiles.zip referenced on WM65 upgrade threads

It gets to the point where I get the status bar. On my phone, it asks me to run enterbotloader.exe & JumpSPL.exe and after I accept, I get to the color bar screen (bootloader I presume) and it times out after a minute or so.

Any thoughts?

Hi, I have tried searching this website and cannot seem to find a solid answer. I hope I don't get everyone in a frenzy over my post. What I would like to know is I have used all the tools and things that I need to sim unlock and cid unlock my phone. It is a Palm Treo 750 Branded by AT&T. I was wondering why I am unable to get this to work on the boost network. Is this due to the fact that I must have a GSM phone and trying to put it on a CDMA network? I have also read many places that I am actually on a IDEN network right now cause I am pay as you go on Boost and that if you go to monthly unlimited by Boost that you will work off the sprint CDMA network. Is this true and if I changed my plan to the CDMA would this AT&T phone unlocked work on the it?

It should work, unlocked phones normally work on any network.

Boost mobile is not gsm or cdma it is IDEN, which I believe is related to the Nextel network. Pretty much an animal of its own. Sim carded phones only work on GSM or IDEN in the case of boost.

I have noticed that several users report problems with unlocking, particularly those of us with Vodafone images. Having spent the past couple of weeks trying to unlock my Vodafone Treo and failing abjectly until this afternoon I thought I would post my experience in case it helps.

Olipro's tool always appeared to run correctly but I never got prompted to run athena_unlock on the Treo, and the SPL never updated regardless. In fact there were general difficulties in comms between the Treo and my PC and since I am using Windows 7 Home Premium I thought that this was the issue. I read somewhere that having COM ports defined on the Treo (for use with BT GPS) was an issue - as indeed it is. Once I deleted the COM ports the activesync connection was stable, but this did not resolve the basic problem!

After a break I tried our friend Google looking specifically at the SPL issue and came up with this post from xda developers, actually on the Wizard forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329170. Now this tool won't actually fix the Treo but the interesting bit is the first stage where you have to enable RAPI and unsigned apps. After running this option a couple of times it appeard to stick and this made the difference!

I was now able to follow Olipro's directions, although I did end up copying the athena_unlock.exe onto a memory card and running it manually on the Treo. Worked like a charm. So, I suspect that the difficulty and difference in experience for many of us may be attributable to whether we have the registry changes to enable RAPI and unsigned apps variously set. Anyway, many thanks Olipro and Cmonex!

hi someone told me to repair my treo750 brick that has remained after the step two of the cheetah unlocker, had to do a hard SPL, but perhaps not the hard SPL is the first step of this program?? now only remains stuck at 1% in any way and have never been able to run the bootloader with my micro SD even though I followed all the advice, please HELP.

Is HardSPL SD flashing possbile for Treo 750? I mean, copy the HardSPL NBH on SD and load USPL on Windows Mobile and it goes straight to the Bootloader where it would detect the H\ardSPL NBH file..... I'm asking because i am havig a hard time loooking for a sync cable.

Copy HardSPL on SD, load USPL on Windows Mobile OS, goes to the bootloader and detects the HardSPL NBH at so on....

I have a query with regard to this HardSPL business. I want to upgrade my Treo 750 to WM6.5. The thing is, if it gives me trouble or I decide I prefer 6.1, can I revert back to an official Palm ROM? Or once it is HardSPL'd do I have to use unofficial ROMs?

Hi Folks,

I'm a total newbie at this, though I am proficient in IT.

My question is;

How do I go from spl-0.24 to 1.11, which is the mimimum requirement stated in the Hard-spl program that I downloaded from here.

Is there just a simple .nbh to get?, and drop it onto the SD (If so, anyone have a link?), or is it a more convoluted process?

The other question I have;

I am in Australia: Are the various different 'radios' region specific? Like, if I use the Hermes one that is mooted here, will that work fine over here?

Apologies for the dumb questions, and if similar have been asked. I have done that much reading I think I am going blind :|

Hi there

A while back I had a problem with my Cheetah where it would permanently say "No Signal". So I took it for repairs and they fixed it by replacing the radio chip. They reflashed the software too so I lost my HardSPL. After I got it back, I HardSPL'd it again.

After a week the problem came back so I took it in for warranty repair. Now they say the IMEI number changed since they gave it to me last time so its not covered under warranty! Does any of the unlocking process (flash spl, unlock, flash radio back) change the IMEI number? Or are these guys trying to scam me?

Hi all, i used cheeter unlocker. I did step one and two successfully. But at the end i get the debug error which some people got. So i copied htc herm unlock v3 to the phone. I ran it from phone and selected sim unlock and it was succesfull. But when i turn on radio, i get "you have tried 5 times, wait for time out shit".

Please anyone, what am i doing wrong, or what should i do to unlock my machine?? It has wm6 from at&t.

It does work, which I was able to unlock my 750v. The thing is, I had to run the Hermes v3 unlocker, which I hope the attachment uploaded properly.

Like you, I bricked my Treo, but I recovered it by flashing a Palm OEM ROM. So what I did was I ran the attached Hermes unlocker on my phone, and selected the Super CID option, and then I was able to flash the Custom SPL. Hope it works for you.

If you want, all my ROM's include .net Framework 3.5 already. Personally I do not like installing it when Framework 2.0 is also present on the device, not only does it take up valuable space, but it can present conflicts without the Microsoft configurator.

This other unlocker, was it called "athena_unlock.exe"? I would also like to know if you at least checked the option "super CID" in Magic Unlocker, as it is necessary for the next step.

Inn the link that Hakim posted, I mentioned how to flash the Cheetah Unlocker radio to your phone. You must look in the root of your Boot Drive on your computer for a folder called "TempChe" when you try to run the CheetahUnlocker (do not exit CheetahUnlocker), and there should be a "CheetahPatched.nbh" in there. This is the file you need to copy to a Fat32 formatted non-SDHC MiniSD, ad rename it to CHEEIMG.nbh before you put this card in your Treo. Then press the reset hole behind the MiniSD cover on the Treo while holding the PTT button (below the volume buttons) and then that tri color screen should show up. Follow the instructions, and then when it's done, let the phone boot, and then try Magic Unlocker or Athena_unlock on the Treo again. After this happens, see if your sim card works, and then proceed to flash a Palm OEM ROM to put a better radio back into your phone (it is still unlocked), and then you can have fun with Custom ROMs.

Okay, this happened to me before. What the most likely cause is, is that the MiniSD needs to have the CHEEIMG.nbh file re-copied. Make sure the card is FAT32 formatted and 2GB or less, suggestions for sucessful formats are: do a full format instead of a quick format. When formatting is done, remove the card from your computer, and then re-insert it. Then re-copy the CheetahPatched back onto the card, rename to CHEEIMG.NBH, and then re-enter the tri-color screen.

I'll be monitoring this thread, so do post whatever you need help with. All along I felt Magic Unlocker wasn't entirely unlocking, so I really want to get to the bottom of this theory of sim-unlocking via MiniSD.

Also, if my above method still does not work, I have some more options, so do let me know here.

The card is a 2gb FAT32 card. Not sure how to tell if it is SDHC or whatever it is...

I have ordered a sync cable, but it is coming from Hong Kong... I have a pink LG shine to use in the mean time, and clearly I'd prefer a more manly phone... :/

Ok I see. Here's what we'll do: tell me the file size of that RUU_signed.nbh, it would be even better if you can somehow upload that, then I will go through that file and see what's up with it.

In the event that file is not the CheetahPatched that I have, then I will upload that so you can try it. I will also let you try a Palm Reset method to make the phone see files on your card, hopefully that works. Note that I only use Mediafire to host my files.

I do know the CheetahPatched.nbh I have is the patched radio, as I flashed that a few weeks ago.

Ok I see what this is. Apparently all this time I have been telling you to flash the SPL :p So here's what we're going to do now:

I need you to run the "CheetahUnlocker.exe" file again, go through it as if your phone was connected, and when it finally gets to verifying your phone, just let it be, and it will say it can't. But CheetahUnlocker will continue and you should see the option to "Unlock Radio", this is what you click and then the "TempChe" folder should now have the CheetahPatched.nbh. This is what you copy to your card.

If that still does not work, I will proceed to give you a MiniSD card flash method from Palm. This is Palm's method of flashing their ROMs to your Treo without a cable. What I need to do is trick the Palm software into thinking what I'm going to give you is an official file, so you will have to wait about 8 hours from now as right now, my isp is really slow for downloads/uploads and I don't want to upload corrupted files for you.

Hopefully this will work, as I have no idea why you cannot flash the SPL file (the one you just uploaded). That is supposed to be flashable, which is why I suspected your card, I use a 256MB MicroSD in a MicroSD-MiniSD adapter to flash from the card, and if I remember correctly, someone else here had a problem with a 2GB card.

So this is what happens when put CheetahPatched.nbh onto your card? Hmmm.... try re-inserting your card into the Treo again, sometimes my Treo has a difficult time detecting a card.

If not, that means that you really do need to flash the SPL. But we know that doesn't seem to work, so let me try my official method. You might hear from me after a really long time, as now my isp has dropped to an abyssmal 8KB/s speed, and I get a lot of timeouts trying to access this forum :S

Last important info I forgot to ask you: I need to know some info of your phone. Got to Start-Settings, tap the System tab, and click the "About" icon. Click the Phone tab and I need to know your "Software version" and "Firmware".

Okay, let's try this first. Download this and extract the contents to the root of your Fat32 formatted MiniSD:
custom SD updater (http://www.mediafire.com/?cca3maa6hov6z50)

Important notes:

-This most certainly will Hard Reset your phone, so before proceeding, I highly suggest you backup your personal data.
-You do not have to reset, hold buttons or anything. This is an automated process that you can only use when the Treo is on (when your phone is on, Today screen and all). Once you insert your card the Treo should automatically autorun the updater.
-I have supplied the SPL inside, as it is the main obstacle for you in regards to unlocking the sim. As it stands, one cannot flash the patched radio unless their phone is HardSPL'ed.


It's unfortunate, but as a ROM cooker I practically destroyed my Software Version, Hardware Version, and Serial Number, so I cannot test this. What I need to know from you is: does this SD Updater work, when the MiniSD autoruns, does it say "this device is not supported", and also it might help if you remove the sim card before doing this.

If you are capable to, you can also use this method to flash the patched radio. What you need to do is create an MD5 hash out of the CheetahPatched.nbh file (Name it as CHEEIMG.nbh before creating the hash), and then replace the respective files in the root of your MiniSD.

Maybe the card is knackered... Or maybe Windows 7 formats FAT32 differently, FFS...

Now that is interesting. Maybe after all this time, it was always working, but your card was not valid.

Try searching online for "Panasonic SD Formatter", because I always use Windows 7 to format to Fat32, but when my card has errors that SD Formatter is always my first choice to totally full format cards.

I think, you can use the features CHKDSK on your own computer to check the SD card

Well, if you have the Hard SPL now, you can unlock the radio by flashing that CheetahPatched file, then run that Athena Unlocker, and then flash a good radio and then you should be unlocked :)

To check if you have the custom Hard SPL, reset the phone while holding the side button (below the volume buttons) and you should see a "SPL-1.40.Olinex".

Hmm. I don't suppose you can get that "Cheetahpatched" file out of the CheetahUnlocker? Unfortunately, I'm unable to upload that, but if you can somehow get that file, you should be able to flash that via your MiniSD. After that, that's when AthenaUnlocker should work.

See if you can install .NET framework 3.5. Whenever I come across a program that needs 2.0, I just install 3.5 SP1. Though, it looks like you are on Windows 7. I think that comes with it already....

But see if you need files related to "Visual C++ 6.0 Runtime Library (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/259403)". The programs from XDA-developers usually need those stuff.

I have Palm Treo 750 (without camera) running WM 6.1. My goal is to install the custom ROM "Hermann v3 WM 6.1".

The instruction said that I have to first do a HardSPL. So, I tried to use Cheetah Unlocker.

When I am trying to execute the 1st Step (Flash SPL) , the app says this Unlocker App is intended only for SPL 1.1. When I checked in my Treo, it reads "SPL 0.24".

So, I could not run with the Unlocker. Now, I don't know how to proceed?

1. Is Cheetah Unlocker applicable only for SPL 1.1?
2. My Treo is already SIM unlocked. Do I still need to Hard SPL to install the custom ROM?

Hi,

A quick update... I have successfully flashed the Hermann's v3.0 ROM to my TREO.

My original Treo was running WM 6.1 with SPL 0.24. Because of this SPL version mismatch, I did not use Cheetah Unlocker. I directly went ahead and used "RUUWrapper.exe" to update the ROM.

Note: Even the ROM Updater App says this ROM is intended only for SPL 1.1. But, I could successfully patch it without any issues.

This ROM is awesome. Hats of to the expert chef :)

I got it sorted last night. My wife's iPhone was playing up so I decided to try my Treo unlock again (have formatted PC since)

I got the same error message, but this time it just worked. Not sure what is different to be honest, apart from the host PC is now running XP and not Windows 7...

Ah, I was wondering where have you been :) Nice to see it's all working out. Honestly, I think that Windows XP is the best compatibility for most of these old programs, but why that is, I don't know :p

wowser, I just checked some of the links in that "list of WM6 ROMs" thread, and they're dead. In fact, I don't think any other links work other than the latest custom ROMs here.

It's a shame too, I've got one heck of a collection of Treo750 ROMs, ranging from the WM5 Cingular ROM, and all English WM6 updates from Version 2.18 - 2.30, and practically all custom ROMs from various people, including nav's, chaimd's, chinese-built ROMs in english, and yet I can't upload them.

To be honest though, my Hermann ROMs are the result of 2 years of having used every one of those ROMs, and the experience gained from them, so chances are if there's one thing you liked (or would have liked) from those, I'm sure I got it covered in my Hermann ROMs ;)

Well, if *you want*, you could burn them to a DVD/CD and I could upload them for you, or even host them for you if I have enough room...

Thanks, but with a horrible postal system this country has, sending you a DVD would definitely arrive next year, no kidding :p

My best bet would be to use a competing wireless service (that doesn't have an 800MB bandwidth limit), but I loaned my 3G modem to someone so that will have to wait :(

Thanks, I certainly do hope I can get a chance to upload all of them. I originally wanted to do that as one last hurrah for the Treo750, so that users can see how it all progressed throughout the years. 4 years ago.... still a nice d-pad + keyboard combination :D

I have loved all my Treo's that I've owned. I have an iPhone 4, yet I still get the urge to use the 750 in its place...
