They are available here (http://www.brickstrap.com).

Would any of you be interested in a small wrist lanyard or a neck lanyard that would be custom made for the kaiser? I am having some made for me, but I would need to order in bulk, and I don't have the need for more than one :)

Either way, I just talked to the rep who makes them, and I gave him some specific requests for a custom lanyard that would:

A: Not have any material that could scratch the Kaiser
B: Would have the smallest quick release connector made
C: Would have the smallest strap that would fit around your hand to get on your wrist, thus leaving only the minimal hanging strap when in a case.
D: Would be Black to match the Kaiser
E: Could have custom imprinting on the strap to say.... Kaiser, TytnII, HTC, whatever we would want it to say.. or nothing at all.

Let me know if anyone would be interested. I'm pretty sure the cost would be less than a few bucks... Either way I will be ordering them for myself.

Yes, and I've liked this type minimal length lanyard for other small things like cameras as well, that's why I'd like a couple.

If you're putting a quick release on it anyway; how about making a wrist strap & a neck lanyard matching pair that has the same connector... easy to switch off between them. I think that'd be cool and worth a few extra bucks.

Give me a few days and I will have em...

Check these guys out, they may have what you need already.

http://www.rivetnow.com/

http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones-headsets/rivet-rhythm-earphone-lanyard/4505-6468_7-31753449.html

Note, thay also make an attachment that threads through any spot meant for a camera type wrist strap. Not sure if the Kaiser has one of these, but it looks like it may from the pictures I have seen.

The thing I like about this system is that you can use the clips with more than one device.

One thing to note though, I tried the Harmony headphones with my 8125, and could only get one side of the headphones working. Seems the 4pin 2.5mm connectors used on the 8125 do not have any type of standard for how they are wired. I am guessing this would not be the case with the Kaiser, but you would need to use the usb to 3.5mm adapter in conjunction with the rivet offerings.

Thanks for the link... but the lanyards they have, use metal adapters and that is what I am trying to avoid. The metal adapters will scratch the device. Not to be too anal, but when you pay 800 for a device, it's always a good idea to keep it in mint condition to have a good resale when the next hot device comes out.

Spend a bit more and get this then...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333707

I'd say it has easily prevented $20 worth of scratches on my wife's iPhone already and it also has just a slightly tackier feel to it, so the phone doesn't slip out of your fingers as easily, although the OP on this link indicates the Kaiser already has a tacky backplate, probably for that very reason.

Thats a great idea as well... But my own reason for wanting a lanyard is to help me pull the device out of the belt case that I use to carry it in... Almost everytime I have dropped a phone, it has been when I am taking it out of the case... With the lanyard on it, It will be easier to pull out, as well as keep it from hitting the ground.

I have been super busy at work, but I will be making the phone call very soon to get the lanyards...

Well... I just finished getting a quote for the lanyards...

Looks like my idea is getting stomped...

The company wants a minimum order of 100 units at 1.52 per unit... That means I would have to dish out 160 dollars... Thats fine with me, but I'm concerned I wouldn't be able to get the money back...

Also, they won't send out one neck lanyard and one wrist lanyard with a cell conector, since it would mean that they would have to have more male connectors than female connectors. So the only way is to order half of the lanyards as 36" and the other half as 12"...

Either way, they are very nice lanyards and I really want a few for myself. If you all think I could get rid of 90 of them then I will go and order them...

Another Idea I had, was to have, "XDA Developers" prnted on the lanyard, and the site can use them as a way to help get donations.... such as selling lanyards for 5 bucks or so...

Gimme some feedback if ya all would please.

I take enough pride in my geekness to buy something branded with XDA Developers, but I don't have a need for a lanyard.

It's a pretty good idea though. You may want to get it out to a broader audience via another more general post, as I am sure the interest would apply for other devices as well. Me thinks one of the moderators should be able to help out with this.

Ok, I will order the Lanyards with, "XDA Developers" on the lanyard. The lanyard will be polyester black, and the text will be a dark grey. I'm not into big bright text, I like being low key.
:D

It will be 50 neck lanyards and 50 small wrist lanyards.

I don't think I will have an issue getting them outa my hands.

I have been real busy at work today, but I did get the final quote. 256.00 for 50 neck lanyards and 50 wrist lanyards. They are charging me extra for retooling to make half of the order neck lanyards. Either way, it will say XDA Developers.com on the lanyard, so I need to talk to a mod soon to find out if all this is ok.. will keep you all updated.

Now before I order them, I need an aproval by XDA Developers, as well as an idea of how much I need to donate per sale to XDA to make this whole thing work.

If one of you veterans can get me in contact with pof that would be great.

Once I officially make the order, it will take up to 14 days to get them.

Whoa, does it need that XDA Text???? That's way too, NOT SUBTLE. I was hoping for a more compact strap, don't like the quick disconnect as it just adds bulk and a tad more danger. I'll never wear this phone around my neck so the quick disconnect doesn't do it for me. Just my humble opinion.

I would rather not have the text, as I like subtle. To be honest, the text is only there to help get rid of 100 units which is the minimum order. If I can move 100 lanyards without the XDA text I would rather do that. The quick release idea has been there from the start and I like the idea. It does not seperate without trying to seperate it. You were looking at a digital mock up.

Listen, the only reason I am doing this, is so I can get a custom lanyard for my Kaiser. I think I will make a decision on this and order the lanyards. If you like the final product, then you can order one.

I'm up for a pair. Are you going to do it through Paypal?

Buzz313th
10-10-2007, 07:29 PM
Ok, here is the final decision.

I have decided to go without the text, since I have not had any luck getting in contact with XDA mods...and I don't have the time to sort a 2nd payment for every unit donated to XDA....

The quick release will be included... the test model with that quick release failed at 48 lbs... so I think it is strong enough..

The Neck Lanyards will be 36" folded in half and sewn to make the lanyard... and the wrist lanyards will be 11" folded in half to make a 5.5" lanyard. The wrist lanyard is just big enough to fit around a hand that is bigger than average. Anyone with hands the size of Goliath, will not be able to get the lanyard around thier hands.

So... the lanyard in the picture is representative of the lanyards to come, except no XDA text... Sorry for those who wanted that, but it is just gonna be too big of a headache for me...

The lanyards will go for roughly 5.00 USD for the wrist lanyard and around 7 for the Neck lanyard. Hopefully I will be able to sell them for less, depending on what the final quote is. Shipping is a different story... I will look into that very soon... I plan on using the least expensive shipping method that will track a package. This is so I don't hear any complaining from those who say that they have not recieved the lanyard they paid for....

I am currently using a lanyard I made by scratch and it works perfectly. It keeps the unit safe from falls durring use as well as making it much easier to take outa my case... The biggest advantage, is being able to toss the unit around while using it, without having the fear of dropping or mishandeling it...

Oh yeah.. and Yes to PayPal....

Ok.. Order is made..

Delivery will be around the 24th of this month...

Wrist Lanyards will be 5.00 USD and Neck Lanyards will be 7.00 USD.

I will be opening a paypal account in a few hours.

Again, these are custom lanyards that contain no metal parts, they will not scratch your device.

I will let you all know when the Paypal account is open if your interested in getting a lanyard.

didn't you said earlier that they quoted you at 100 units @ $1.52 per unit ??

since you've mentioned that you had already ordered and it will likely be there by the 24th ...etc

what is the final quote ??

$5 per item ( short or long ) seems to be a fair price !! :p

and I need to know what is the "TOTAL PRICE" -->> items plus shipping to Canada ??

you could just slap on a stamp & drop it in a regular envelope and mail it like a regular snail mail ... can you not ?? beat having to go through custom & delays if it was a package mailing ...etc

so ...

I'll take 1 long and 1 short -->> $10

LOL... Too funny...

After all is said and done, I am paying 2.56 for each lanyard. Mostly because they are charging me extra for two custom options that I personally wanted.

1. The lanyards are stitched together to get rid of the metal clasp which would scratch our beloved 800 dollar devices.

2. I have ordered half of the minimum order as neck lanyards and the other half as wrist lanyards. They have charged me a large sum (relatively) to retool the run. This was done as a request by one of the forum members in this thread.

If I don't make enough to be worth my time, then I am ok with just eating the 256.00 and handing them out to my friends...

Trust me, they are custom and one of a kind, if you want one then you will get one. If you don't, then make your own. I have researched shipping and paypal, and I am willing to do both, but I will not quote or take any orders until I see the products and decide if they are worth selling...

I am expecting them n o later than the 24th, and I will post when I get em...

Have a good un...

ok.......

firstoff. I got all your emails. But I have not been able to reply until now.

You asked for the cheapest method of shipping that had tracking as well. Based on a safe estimation of a package weight of 8 oz, I came up with 18USD for shipping from my city to Ontario Canada.

The other options did not include tracking. If u want the other options then it will be around 6 dollars i believe, Im really not sure and i cant check right now since I am driving home.

I tell ya what...... you pick the shipping option and tell me how much based on 8 oz and i will ship how u want me too, but if on satueday when I get to the post office and it ends up costing me more thajn ur estimate I will give you a call and ask u what I should do. Sound good?

I agree with u that it is expensive to ship international, but Im not the one in canada that wants a lanyard from la.... Im not trying to be a jerk, but between u and i, I am not ripping u off, I am just trying to get you something u have asked for.

If u still want em, you tell me exactly how u want it shipped and i will do that for u.

Its not right and I am sorry. The international shipping on paypal is not set up yet. So I ask that those of you who need international shipping please hold off till monday. I will have a solution for that pretty soon.

I am looking for an international shipping solution that wont cost too much more than the products.

Ok, the domestic orders went out today... All of them can be tracked via the USPS website.

I am still working on some sort of international shipping method. After talking to paypal today, I should have a good solution.

Ok, international shipping is set up... It's the least expensive I could go and still have some sort of tracking feature.

If you want UPS, then send me an email before you place the paypal order.

If anyone in UK wants to get a similar strap in a hurry (at double the price of course) Jessops has this strap (the top black one) , which is short, with a plastic catch, for £4.99 excluding shipping, or available from the actual stores itself.

I bought one yesterday at Bluewater shopping mall in Kent, and it works pretty well.

BTW, if this post is felt inappropriate in this thread, I would not mind if the mods are asked to delete it. I admire Buzz313th's efforts to do some good for the community.

Thought I'd make a quick post. Ordered one each of the hand/neck straps from this thread. The material seems like it will stand up for a good while and isn't too itchy on my neck. The detachable part on the bottom is rather nice since it's small enough to leave on there all the time even when I don't want the strap at the moment.

Just a word of warning to check the knot on the little string that attaches the Kaiser to the quick release on the strap. It is inside the quick release. I had only been using mine for a day or so (light use) and the knot came undone unexpectedly and my Tilt fell to the ground. Fortunately, it happened just as I was sitting in my car and I had the wrist strap on my right wrist. It only fell about 18 inches onto the carpet in my car and I also had it in a small case at the time. A few seconds sooner and it would have fell 3 to 4 feet to the pavement. I would not have been a happy camper! There is only a single knot on the string and it is very close to the end of the string and the knot on mine obviously hadn't been tightened properly. Would be a good idea to periodically check this. Would be even worse if it happens when using the neck lanyard.

I can't say anything more than sorry. I swear I check each one by pulling as hard as I can on the lanyard, before I package them. I will now check the integrity of the knots inside the quick release before I ship as well.

I just took a looksy at my knot on my lanyard. A very good solution to make sure the knot never comes undone, is to put a drop of glue on the knot... Once dry, it will never be undone.

Is there any damage to the device? I hope not, let me know...

No, it's fine. No damage as it never fell far enough. Not your fault anyway. Just mentioned it for others to check before it happens to someone else. The glue is a good idea, probably a big dab of hot glue would be best. Warming up the gun now. I am somewhat worried about the knot pulling through the hole without becoming undone. Hot glue should do the job.

I received my set yesterday. Here is my review

Pros:
The quality is much better than I expected. The materials used are of a very high standard. This is not any 'ole lanyard made in China!
strap: The straps are very durable and are soft to the touch. I expected them to be the quality of either cheap shoelaces or that of rough plastic nylon crap. Thank goodness I was wrong. The overall length of each is perfect. The hand strap is big enough to let my big hand in, yet also small enough to keep it securely around my wrist. I also find it very easy to simply pull my phone out of my pocket with the strap.
clasp: The clasp is made of high density molded plastic. To give a comparison; the plastic of the clasp is far superior to the plastic you find on the usb connector for the stock charger. When the clasp is inserted into the strap it creates a very solid connection. Removing the clasp from the strap requires firm and solid pressure. I have no concerns that it will remove itself while in my pocket.
price: not only is it a good price for any lanyard out there, it is an even better bargain based on the quality of construction.

Cons:
I have not found any problems with these.

Overall:
A great price for a great product makes this a no-brainer decision to purchase a set. Furthermore, the quality and price of these lanyards make them perfect not just for Kaisers/Tilts, but for other devices as well. I would trust this to securely hold even the most expensive of toys. Buy a set if you haven't already!

Wow... Jim, thanks for the cool review... I as the seller honestly am flattered. I got lucky considering everything worked out this well for the first production run. It took too long for my liking for you to recieve it, but thats USPS. Either way, thanks for the excellent review.

A dot of Super Glue/Crazy Glue (or any of the no-name versions) will actually seep into the fabric of most string/cording and once hard will weld the knot.

FWIW this sort of cord won't usually come untied, it's a little umm, greasy/sticky. Not sure what is it, but i've used it before. that particular knot must have been very close to the end. the knot on mine was farther down and looks study to my eye.

Thanks for the very prompt delivery to Australia. Only took a week or so. Bought three of each length. One set for me and the other two for friends. Probably wont use the the long lanyard much but the short one is ideal.
Only criticism is IMO the short lanyard could be about a cm or two (3/4inch) longer. My hand is not large but I find the strap little difficult to remove.
Overall a great product of good quality. So thanks...

Thanks.. I appreciate the good words...

I tried to keep the lanyard as short as possible... And it works well for a medium sized hand... I will be modifying the wrist lanrad to get a bigger loop, but at the same time shortening the length from the phone to the tip of the lanyard.
