Wow, haven't been in here for a year and have so much to catch up on. I'm looking to get my hands on a Att Tilt soon and my question is.... Which is better to have the Att Rom or the Kaiser Rom? Or is there a cooked Rom which has the best of both worlds?
Also, Does the Kaiser rom come with the Tom Tom Software?
Does the Att Tilt Rom have Touch FLO? Does Kaiser Rom have Touch FLO?
Thanks so much in advance. I can't wait to Super Tweak my Tilt like I used to with my Jam, 8125 and TYTN back in the day!

Can't comment on what's a better ROM as I have a Dutch Orange test ROM (which has the worst batterylife ever by the way) but my personal experience is that branded software There is no cooked ROM (yet). The chefs are working on it so untill that time it's biting nails for everyone :)
Normally all ROM's for the Kaiser, even the branded, come with TomTom software. GPS Quality is excellent.
As far as I know, all ROM's come with touchflo. Not the cube as on the ELF, but you can scroll by moving your finger around on the screen. Works great!

Wrong.
Actually, very few ROMs come with TomTom. In fact, I believe it is only the European unbranded ROMs that contain the TomTom software on the install cd (not built into the ROM). The AT&T rom will NOT have TomTom but will instead have TeleNav.
Having said that .. you can download the version of TomTom that came with the TyTAN II and it *may* work on the Tilt.

The better ROM is going to be the HTC in this case. AT&T loaded it up with demo-ware. They also removed some things that are standard.
I have the Kaiser and will be ordering the Tilt probably tomorrow so I should be able to give a better side-by-side shortly.
But I guarentee that the HTC ROM will be going on the Tilt as soon as possible.

DEFFINATELY the HTC Rom..
ATT's will have nerfs and bloatware.. unnecessary software that hogs memory.
ATT's doesn't have the home screen either.
Just keep in mind though whether you're using a BETA HTC rom or an official release. Always try and stay with an Official Release.

potential problem #1 with HTC firmware on the Tilt:
If you take a look at the keys on the Tilt, the characters don't match up with the Kaiser. So before making the FW switch, we have to figure out which keyboard layout code to use. SHOULD be simple but you never know. Compare things like the : and ; and = and $ and a few more things that are easily visible.

Why couldn't we just use the registry key from the Tilt with the HTC firmware. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me - it was the same change needed for the TyTN ROMs vs 8525.

SHOULDN'T be a big deal. I just remember when we first started cooking Wizard ROMS or flashing s620 ROMS how the keyboard layouts were wrong and it took a little while to figure them all out.
That's the ONLY issue I see at the moment... Will be interesting to see what it does when you try to enable a video call with no front camera.

So I guess my conclusion is....I'm stuck with the Att Rom for now.... BLECH! I hate these demo crapware Att always installs. I can't wait to try some delicious new Cooked Roms. I really just want the TomTom and the demostuff deleted. I do have iGuidance GPS software but for mobile 5.0....i'll give it a try

Trust me, it won't be long. There should be a way to put the HTC ROM on VERY soon... I wouldn't customize the AT&T one too much. :) You won't have to be stuck with it very long.

Rumor has it that at&t took out the Internet Sharing application. Is this true? Did they totally remove it from the ROM or did they just not put a shortcut to it in the Programs menu (like they did with the Blackjack WM5 ROM)? If it's gone, does anyone have it extracted as a cab file to install?

yup, I just got my Tilt and I can't wait to dump this AT&T rom. It's loaded with demoware and various annoyances. Plus (coming from an 8125 with a cooked rom), I forgot how truly awful and ugly the at&t dialer was! Ugh. And no luck getting Duronmarcel's dialer to work on it so far...

I was going to buy a tilt today but I hear they do not have the Internet sharing any more. How can i fix this. I need the sharing to hook my Vista UMPC to the internet. I saw someone said it is still there but no shortcut. How would I find the program to create the shortcut. I have an 8525 and I looked in it for the main program but cant seem to locate it. BTW my 8525 has WM6 Black 2.5.
Thanks for any help!!! I have one being held for me and would love to go pick it up but need this feature.

It's in the windows directory. I think it was a hidden file. When I get time I'll make a cab file to restore the icon.

Hey thats great if you can do that for me I am off to get a Tilt. Thanks for the help.
Anyone with a Tilt still on AT&T ROM want to dive into the registry and get the keyboard layout?
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty
Layout = ?
Actually that key isn't there anymore.
It might be under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout\
HTC ROM has Active=00000409
There is also a set of keys under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\ with two keys underneath that.
00000409 (like referenced in the above value)
e0010409
The contents of 00000409 is
Layout File = KbdNopAll.dll
Layout Text = US
PS2_AT = KbdNopAll.dll
The contents of e0010409 is
Ime File = compime.dll
Keyboard Layout = 00000409
Layout Text = COMP IME

I'm no expert, just started messing around with this thing today, however when I put RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88. 07_1.27.12.11_Ship.exe on my Tilt, Google Maps would say the GPS was not responding. After flashing it to RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_.exe, it now works fine. Can anyone else comment on their experience with this? I'd really like to have the Kaiser ROM, but not if it means no GPS.

Can't the demo ware just be un-installed? I may not have understood this right, but who cares if it's in ram, can't it just be removed? And if it's in rom, then so what, id it's no taking up ram.
Am I making any sense?

I had a similar issue with Google Maps timing out on me before it could get a fix. I actually had this problem with both ATT and HTC ROMs. Pretty easy fix really.
Just load the Visual GPS program from here:
http://www.visualgps.net/VisualGPSce/
After you install you'll need to configure the program to point to COM4 (under the "Connect" menu). After it finds some satellites fire up Google Maps and track your location and you should be good to go.
Hope this helps.

Not yet, but it probably won't be long I suspect. I think hundreds of us use the PTT button on the 8525 for MSVC and we all want to do the same with the 8925.

Hey thats great if you can do that for me I am off to get a Tilt. Thanks for the help.
Yes, I have been looking into how to use the Tilt as a "broadband" modem (NOT as a dial-up modem!) for the past couple of days! I was not aware of the "Internet Sharing" program until a few hours. It sucks how AT&T HID HID HID HID HID HID HID this great feature (and God knows how many more!) I had to dig deep (on the internet) for a solution to this problem. I went to the HTC site and noticed they have instructions on "Internet Sharing" and that is how I got to know about the "3gnetopt.exe" program as well as the "Internet Sharing" program.
Well, thanks to this forum, I got to know that the SHORTCUT and NOT the program was deleted from the phone! The program itself is under the Windows directory... go into the Windows directory and look for the "intenet Sharing" file. Thanks for the hint dude (whoever mentioned that the program was still there!
If anyone else has any other ideas pertaining to "hidden" features of the Tilt, please post!!!
Thanks.

BTW, this is now working on the ATT ROM with a regedit.

I believe you'll need to use AT&T ISP for tethering to work. Otherwise, you can try disabling the proxy in Medianet.
I have a Laptop Connect data plan that allows tethering and I use AT&T ISP.

I dont see that it uses a proxy, but I could be wrong. I thought the ICS could just piggyback on my medianet connection, apparently not.

If you can access http://home then your connection is using a proxy. By default Medianet uses a proxy to access all the AT&T sites.

I can't speak to the Tilt, but ICS on 8525 is known to work with MediaNet.

When I click connect for Internet Sharing I get the message "connecting to GPRS, 3G" and it goes on and off several times until it says "remote party has ended the connection" What could I be doing wrong? Also is there any difference from running the cab file or just going to windows internet sharing and putting it in the programs folder?

Just keep thing in balance. I have a Tilt using AT&T ROM. I have tried over 4 or 5 variants of cook ROM's such as TYTN2, HTC, Hybrid...... and finally backed to AT&T based ROM.
There are ROM's in this forum based on AT&T most updated ROM without all the bloatware. I found GPRS, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G, Wifi, audio and all other functions work without big headaches or keep looking patches to fix left and right.
Trust me, you can find an AT&T based cook ROM in this forum and be happy with. Or, like me, spent three weeks flashed everything in site (sight) before coming home and said, "Damn, AT&T must tweaked something in their machine and screw everyone (casual users) who trys to monkey around with it."

first of all, let me say congrats on bumping such an old thread! it takes a true n00b with only one post to do that.
also let me add something constructive by saying that atw is right. i have the "pda personal" plan from at&t for my tilt and i can use internet sharing without a problem. if you are going to use internet sharing, i would not recommend using a medianet plan. tethering uses way too much data and if you use the "My ISP" (isp.cingular) connection they can drop your plan and switch you to pay per use because an unlimited medianet plan does not cover "My ISP"
