Aww, cmon Olipro - a) He credits your work right up front! b) It's been out for over a month now. c) It's a well known fact that you've done a TON of the underlying research for these types of projects.
Richard

Actually you've got it all wrong, me and pof are great friends, just that the bitch hasn't been online for a while so I was hoping to goad him out, no such luck it seems.

Where are you Bitch?

No worries man, I had thought you guys were cool - just sounded like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day :D

I haven't seen him in a while either - darn day job probably interfering with phone fiddling!

im posting here as a last resort after going to every post and trying every opinion. i honestly have tried my best but cant get this working

Device: ATT Tilt (sim unlocked)
PC: Windows Vista

I'm basically stuck at the very beginning, after seeing the activesync icon on my taskbar is green i go ahead and unplug replug the usb cable but i can never seem to get the activesync icon to go grey. it just stays green. after reading through the post, i realize other people have had issues with vista and hardspl as well so i followed the suggestion to perform whats shown in this link. http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=23&Itemid=27 but after following everything on that page i come back to the same problem again, i begin with a green icon and it states my device is connected in windows mobile device center but i cannot get the active sync icon to go grey after repluggin. the active sync icon is still green but when i open up windows mobile device center, it now states the device is not connected. I'm also using the latest windows mobile device center. just to make sure, the activesync icon is the thing on the taskbar with the two circulating arrows correct.

really appreciate the help and sorry to bother. thanks in advance

*cough* I'll refrain from commenting on where he might be.

also, I do wrap my stuff up in idiot proof packages actually, and was going to do this one, but pof decided he wanted to do it himself... although it was a bit cheeky when he hexedited my name from the patched SPL.

and where I say "idiot proof" I feel I should mention that the universe seems to be inventing better idiots.

Pof & Olipro, I need a sspl version of the hard-spl because i need rtask support in sspl. I tried myself and first problem was that hard-spl immediately resets. I nop-ed the call to the reset function. It no longer resets, but now display is grey and no usb connection is possible. Is there anything else which can be patched?

Cheers
JockyW

EDIT: Ok, I found an older mfg spl which behaves a bit better. Getting closer to a Kaiser Sim unlock :)

Hello,
I am new with my AT&T Tilt. Where can I download the HTC ROM? Is it really better than the AT&T ROM? What are the advantages?

Thanks

If my Kaiser is already unlocked, do I need HardSPL? To update ROM do I need HardSPL or can I do it without it. To tell you the truth I don't know what is SPL. Thank and sorry for my stupid question.

You must start reading more from Wiki and for sticky threads...

Anyway, the Kaiser have two locked things, the SIM locked and the CID locked. If you buy to HTC, means you have SIM unlocked, but to get CID unlocked you need to install HardSPL... If you buy to ceel operator (vodafone, orange, ATT, etc) can be SIM locked too... there is no public free way to get SIM unlocked for now.

Hope you see clear now ;)

Pof... You helped me in the past unlocking my Cingular 8525 Hermes. I just got the AT&T Tilt ( HTC8925). I downloaded your spl unlock however I am erroring out, and I did this 10 times so far, believing following your instructions to the tee. Is the AT&T Tilt unlocking process different that the HTC 8525 or the KaiserII?

With Hermes, you had the unlocking software for both the CID and the SIM in one, and all I did was place the file on my SD card and then open within the device and that was it.

Please help....

Thanks..

I try my damnest best to help whenever I can when someone is in need. Now I ran into a glitch and non is willing to give a hand? as a matter of fact In all of my previous queries, I got no or little help from anyone... what is this? a clik that I need to sign on to? I would like to know... I see someone with 1 or 3 posts participating and running into a problem and everyone rushes to help...

guys... here is my issue: I do the following:

1. ActiveSync is enabled (GREEN icon in systray)
2. I click on the downloaded and extracted "kaiser-HardSPL.exe" file
3. Dos window appears and has some instructions.
4. I click Enter in the Dos window
5. A sspl-kais.exe window appears on my phone screen.
6. I click yes on the phn screen.
7. I click Continue on the second appearing screen on my phone
8. the tri colors appear and the USB appear as well
8.a. I unplug the USB and replug.
9. I click enter twice as per the instruction... and the update utility window appears.
10. I check and click continue on both update utility windows and wait...
11. Error 260 window appears... saying THE PHONE IS EITHER NOT CONNECTED TO usb OR THE usb CABLE IS NOT CONNECTED TO pc... BOTH ARE NOT TRUE.

This is the 20th time I repeat these steps... What the fuck am I doing wrong?

I remember on my Wizard we were able to upgrade the IPL and SPL when new ones came available, many times bundled with a new rom. Is Hard-SPL locking the spl where it can't be upgraded? I was just browsing the Reverting back to stock thread and it said that flashing back a stock rom with another spl does not change your spl.

I'm hoping Oli is still checking this thread every once in a while...

Oli, I am running into an issue on a Tilt that is rather new to me. I've flashed probably 10 or 12 others with HardSPL and no issue so I don't think it's a process issue.

The problem:
I connect the phone to my PC and let ActiveSync connect to it.
Run HardSPL v1
On the Phone Click yes to the security warning
Click Continue on the author popup
Screen goes completely white... I never get the tricolor JumpSPL bootloader
Soft Reset is required to restore the phone to normal.

I've tried flashing anyway on the white screen (after unplugging and replugging) to no avail.

I've tried mtty and a 'task 2a' but it does not appear to work I get no output from the command just the prompt again... like so

cmd>task 2a

cmd>

I'm open to any ideas you may have... SPL on the phone shows as 1.56.0000 so it doesn't look new by any means (not that it should matter for the way your SPL stomps on it :))

Mods,
I have posted a new thread on this as well which can be deleted if you deem this is the more appropriate location for this discussion.

Have you ever seen the tri color screen on this device? If not, try the following:
1. Press the Power and the Camera buttons and hold down.
2. Press the soft reset button ( while doing 1 above).
3. The tri-color should appear.
4. Connect your USB cable,

If the Active Sync is connected try installing the hard SPL.

Worth a shot..

yah I've done this... I get the normal Bootloader screen same SPL version as a normal Tilt (at least that's what it reports). The problem is you can't install HardSPL without loading SSPL-KAIS.exe (the JumpSPL mod for the kaiser). I tried without it anyways, it failed :(.

Thanks for the response though!

OK, 2 things folks:

1) DO NOT RUN TASK 2A, THE KAISER HAS PROPER ECC CHECKING, TASK 2A *FORMATS* YOUR NAND; DO NOT USE IT.

2) it seems the hardware has changed in the Kaiser somewhat such that the shitty pre-production patched SPL that soft-loads can't work any more... now as much as I'd *love* to make the new ones work, since I don't actually own a Kaiser, I can't.

You will regret NOT flashing sooner... This rom is a masterpiece. You will not need to re flash with anything else after you do this one. I just got the Voice Command working; did not remap it, left it to default to launch from the internet hard button. I also added the following programs:
1. 1-Calc Full
2. Resco Radio and resco recorder ( Subbed the included recorder with resco)
3. LiveSearch
4. Voice-Command.
5. XM & MobiTV with Subs.
6. iGO Navigation Program with about 900MB maps.
7. several TSK splash screens to test.

The AT&T rom was good, but this one is excellent. I tried Dutty's and Custel's Roms... They do not compare... With all due respect. This one is Fast and stable. The best part is the battery power consumption: You will indeed notice the battery life extended further than with the AT&T rom.

Hi, I ran HardSPL and everything went fine right up until the end. I made an Active Sync connection as instructed and ran the software. My pda screen asked if I would like to continue to which I did. It went into the tricolour mode and the bar displayed on my pc, but not on my device. after about 30 seconds I got an error message saying that it could not connect to my device and to check the cable. I went through the whole routine again with the same results. Any ideas? Many thanks, Jon

1. But can you confirm, that if something goes wrong and I want to use warranty I can flash it back to default HTC Rom?

2. If so, is it somehow possible to find the original Danish HTC Rom somewhere and can I somehow use Sprite Backup to backup the original ROM?

I must say a BIG thank you!
For a complete novice, i managed to download the Hard SPL, install it and then flash Schaps ROM onto my Tytn II.

At first, when i got the tri-colour screen, disconnected and reconnected the USB, and i thought that it wasnt working. The "PDA Phone ROM Update Utility"
then booted up but the phone didnt seem to be connected. At this point, i began to panick. I then did a hard reset and ran the Hard SPL again. This time, i just checked the boxes on the utility program when that loaded up, and even thought the Activ Sync was greyed out, it still connected to the phone and updated what it needed to.

I also accidentally discovered that by double clicking the downloaded ROM on my PC's desktop while the phone was connected, it would automatically launch the ROM updater and upload it onto my phone.

Thanks Again!

Sounds like the same thing happened to me that KevShek is talking about.

I have only tried it once and went through all the steps with the tri colour screen etc... but at the end I checked the ROM version but it was still the same.

I will have to try again.

Could someone please provide me with a link or file or whatever to the ROM (?) that I can install to make the phone back how HTC made it.

I have it on Orange and it is crap. They even removed the GPS software. I just want the HTC phone. With the new ROM installed will it have the TomTom software on there? If not, is there somewhere I can download it and get my free map download?

Thanks for any help you can provide. As you can tell I'm a complete noob at this kind of stuff. Although I managed to debrand my Sony Ericsson K800i successfully and get rid of the Orange crap. Fingers crossed :)

Follow the steps on the wizard to flash HardSPL, when finished your
device will reboot. It should last no more than 1 minute.
- Launching RUU, please wait...

After get into the windows side of the pre-flash it tries to show me my phones current version. However all of the Current ver info is blank.. I canceled, rebooted, phones normal.. Just checking to see what do from this point?

Hi!
For trying to resolve any problem with my Kaiser, I've use mtty for remove the bad blocks...
After that, my device is dead! It can't go in bootloader mode or any other operation and now I don't know how can I do for repair it.
Someone can help me, please?

If I plug my Kaiser with usb, my computer find and look for a driver for "Data interface", but there isn't drivers for this.

try the second page of this thread, it sounds similair to your problem

Unfortunately, you might be out of luck as it is not resolved, but may point you in the right direction.

im not sure or remember seeing the ver info, but after the RUU has ran and it says CONGRATULATIONS. Theres nothing else for it to do, its completed. You can then download a ROM of your choice and save it on your PC somewhere. Next connect the phone back upto the PC and double click on the ROM you just saved. The RUU should automatically run, after ticking the boxes, it should then write this new ROM onto the phone. When you connet the phone up, the tri-colour screen (HardSPL) will show again, then you should have a % bar on both the PC and phone. Once this hits 100% it should reboot and your new ROM be working.

It may make it easier for some of yous/us to understand, the ones who arent as litterate in these things, but from what i can gather..........(correct me if im wrong)
In Laymans terms
In order for you to reprogram or re-write the ROM program on the phone, you need this little program installed onto the phone first. This is the Hard SPL program, the one which show the tri-colours on the phone. This allows the RUU program to then run from the PC onto the phone and write a new ROM onto it.

Hi Kevshek, you seem to be a lot more friendly than some of the regulars on here :)

Anyway, I think I'm stuck like you were before.

I go through the HardSPL program and the phone goes to the tricolour screen. It then ran the other prgram and the grey screen with the progress bar appeared on the phone and then it rebooted. Nothing seems to have happened though. (Also, I can't get into the bootloader the way it has been expleind on this forum to check).

Did I get to the right point? How do I then install a ROM on it?

Thanks

Oliver

LOL! I just found a different way into the bootloader using the power and camera button instead of the power and ok button.

Anyway, I have the olipof thing there.

Yes, this is a NewB question.
I have already used the HARDspl.
Everything went fine.
Loaded the HTC Rom
Running nicely on the Tilt.

But now my interest has been peaked a bit.
I was to load another Rom to test it out and see what everyone is talking about.

So....question is, do I have to run the HARDspl again?

Thanks,
Bubba.

Bear in mind that a lot o the regulars have probably seen the same old qustions hundreads of times, thats maybe why they cant be bothered to repost the same answer, which is why like every forum, they say read the FAQ or read the stickys etc etc, but even then, sometimes it isnt so cut n dry for some people (like me!)

Anyhow, from the sounds of it, youre done! This goes out to bubbacs too

Once this HardSPL bootloader thing is on your phone, it just stays there, (it does reappears if you reboot the phone). Whenever you want to load in a new ROM, download it onto your PC, connect up the phone so active sync runs, then just double click on the ROM. The RUU should then launch and load it onto your phone (with the %bar like before)

Hard SPL - ALLOWS the loading of NEW ROMS
RUU - Uploads NEW ROMS
something like that.

Hi
So I got my At&T tilt/8925 any after spending about 2 days looking @ this thread I am ready to CID unlock my phone. Though there are some questions I still have. I had my phone sim unlocked from Att today :)

So question are:
1. Will I need a Rom image after I do the CID unlock ?
2. If i do need a rom image is there a way to make a back up of my current Rom which is as follows
Rom # 1.57.502.2
date 8/25/07
Radio version 1.27.12.11 ( dont know if yall need the protocol version)
3. Where can I get the original unmodified version of the rom in case I do need to send in the device ?
4. If you go to register your device on HTC's website it ask for your phones serial number. The one on the Tilt is from ATT, any way to find my real serial number so I can register the device with HTC ?

Try to install using a different computer. Or try to disable your AntiVirus software. That did the trick for me. But first you bring the phone to life by a quick Re-Set before trying another computer or disabling the AntiVirus program.

Stucked at the tri-color screen.
After I unplugged the usb cable and plugged it back in, I hit enter to start RUU. The active sync was grey, but RUU still asked me to double check its green.

I ignored this message and clicked next anyway, but RUU failed to find the usb connection to my phone.

It doesn't change anything on my phone though.

If you need to modify you NBH file to deal with Model ID or Vendor ID conflict or the like and you're a noob or Apple or Linux geek I suspect finding the dang .nbh files has alluded you if you keep looking at that .exe file that loads the ROM. Well, it did me.

Just use your rar software on the .exe file itself and there you'll see the ellusive sucker.

I can honestly say I've read every entry in this and many other xda forums. I'd like to say it's a superb group. Sorry to read about the credit not being given universally for all this amazing geekery, but I'm grateful for it all ;> Viva la cooking!

If you are trying to install a new/different ROM and the RUU .exe you are running throws an error before it even starts about a Model ID or Vendor ID conflict, that happened to me to.

In my case it was because I had thought I had successfully installed Hard-SPL properly but I had not.

Make sure Hard-SPLv1 is installed (you see SPL-Olipro or others (see that thread) in your tri-color screen.

Happy hacking

At the screen that says:

"Hit CTRL+C to Cancel or ENTER to continue..."

I read this as, "Hit CTRL+C or Cancel or ENTER to continue...", so I pressed CTRL+C (to continue, believing the process was finished).

Of course, this closes the window out and leaves me with the tri-color screen and a grayed out ActiveSync icon.

My question: how do I safely proceed from here?

UPDATE: Fortunately, nothing persistent is done to the device prior to the actual flashing process that is performed several steps AFTER this prompt, so restarting and "doing-over" is perfectly safe at this point, and resolved the issue.

Keep going. I did the HardSPL and then a few different ROMs. I'm totally new to this and one thing that threw me off was that I was constantly afraid of killing my phone and every time something didn't look right, I stopped. It took a while to figure out "just keep going." My computer never tells me what version I'm flashing from, only tells me what version I'm flashing to.

Now, on to the bad news (blush):

I managed to partly run the Kaiser Hard-SPL installation-program, but at some point it failed (i'm not sure what or where it went wrong, probably entirely my fault).

Now, when pressing the key-combo to get in the 3-color screen bootloader, i first see a white background screen with blue text saying: Loading . . . No image File!, after which it enters the original bootloader (KAIS130 SPL-1.56.0000 CPLD-8).

When trying to reinstall Hard-SPL it just says:

I am getting the following error, I am using it with my MDA VARIO III:
ERROR: CreateProcess failed with Errorcode = -2146893818
- Invalid Signature.

I ofcourse did read many posts/pages on this forum, and searched for answers, but at this moment i'm (unfortunately) simply lost, without knowing what to do next.

Hopefully someone can (and will) help me out?

..... I thank you (whoever you are)!

ps: ah, i almost forgot to mention that i successfully extracted (dump) my phone's ROM (using registry-tweak etc.).
Thanks to those great ppl and their wonderful guides! My deepest respect to those who are involved.

Sincerely,
born4trance @ The Netherlands

update!: okay, the error has disapeared after i powered off/on the device. When going into the bootloader-screen i still get the 'No image file!' error, but the title of the screen has changed to KAIS130 MFG SPL-1.0.OliPof CPLD-8, which seems good. If so, does this mean i can go look for/cook/flash a custom ROM?

Thank you in advance,
born4trance

This is just CID. Sim unlock is different.
I've been reading for hours this forum. Could you tell me where I could get a Sim unlock procedure for tilt 8925?
Thanks.

Hello,
I've been reading for hours this forum. Could you tell me where I could get a Sim unlock procedure for tilt 8925?
Thanks.
It's in several threads, but if you're in the US, the easiest way is to call AT&T and tell them that you want to SIM unlock your phone "because I'm traveling to Europe soon." They'll ask for your IMEI number (under the battery if you don't know where else to find it) and give you an unlock code. I had to insert a foreign SIM in the phone (I had an Orange SIM) and then boot up - the phone asked for the unlock code and then came up. Now it's SIM unlocked.

Of course, if you never plan on leaving the US... there's not much point to SIM-unlocking...

Thanks for your reply. I got this phone through a purchase. I'm not in the USA, and would like not to spend additional $20 just for the SIM unlock code. I have googled the threads in here but there are way to many matches and having read quite a few of them I still didn't end up with the software / process to do it. Could someone give me a hand on this? Just point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance.

More on the subject of this thread my HTC 8925 has the AT&T rom. Is there a particular rom which could improve it's performance? I know I have to CID unlock it, after I SIM unlock it. But when I get there, Which would be a keeper ROM? Or it comes fat free?
Thanks.

Tried this method, and it worked successfully on first attempt on my AT&T TILT! :)

PS: I had removed the simcard and microsd card before starting this process.

Thanks a lot!

I still cannot get it to work. I've taken out the sim and minisd card, activesync is green, I run the app, get a promt to run it on my phone, and then the screen goes white. The exe screen says to click enter when I get a tricolored screen but I never get that. And then Activesync disconnects. Please help!

I'm hoping you guys can help me out. I'm trying to use HardSPL so I can use the Dutty rom on my Tilt.

I'm running Vista and already solved the problem of the phone not going into tricolor mode. Now that its in tricolor mode, I can't get HardSPL to work. I go through all the prompts and the ROM Update Utility doesn't come up and when its attempting to Launcg RUU, its says that 'ROMUpdateUtlity.exe is not a recognizable program or batch file'.

Any help would be great.

Got it. Found an old harddrive and installed XP on it. A lot easier with XP.

I am a newbie to the thread and forum... I'll bet its obvious:o. After I run the Hard-SPL, then which ROM do I use to improve my tilt? Seems like there are several from which to choose. Is the HTC good enough? Should I use one of the other concoctions cooked up by the developers on the thread? What do I gain or lose by using different ROMS? I am really just looking for better speed and some nifty applications to make this more useable than a standard PDA. Thanks kindly.

Got it working... deleted and reinstalled Activesynd with this method:

1. Uninstall Activesync 4.5 from Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
2. Reboot your PC
3. Check to make sure \Program Files\Microsoft Activesync no longer exists - delete it if it's still there.
4. Make sure your phone is NOT connected to your PC and re-install Activesync 4.5
5. Reboot your PC (sorry if this is a bit tedious )
6. Connect your phone directly to a USB port on your PC, NOT VIA A USB HUB!!!
7. Activesync should now detect your phone and start the "Create new partnetship" wizard.

So it was just an activesync glitch...

Call your local service and tell them you are travelling overseas. They should provide a unlocking code. Otherwise search it on eBay for Unlocking HTC 8925 or so.... For $12 they will send you the code by email after you provide your imei. This way worked for me.

I am trying to run the kaiser hardSPLv1, but I can never get to the tri color screen. I have 2 tilts sitting in front of me but cant get mine to work. It freezes on the white screen right before the tri color.

I have tried hard reseting the tilt, uninstalling and reinstalling Active sync, but nothing changes.

It works perfectly on the other tilt sitting in front of me.

I finally was able to Flash Hard SPL. My problem was that I could never get a USB connection to PC while in Bootloader mode. I did as said in this post, but still no luck. Finally wireless_one suggested to leave the USB disconnected for atleast 15 seconds when you unplug and replug. When I did that the PC saw the phone and wanted to install drivers, it did successfully. Now when I launched RUU everything worked ok. This was on the same Vista PC that i tried several times before with no luck. In all I tried 4 PC's with varying OS. I happy to say that I lost my ROM Flashing virginity last night with Dutty's Dual Touch V3. Thanks for everyones suggestions and advice,
Kevin

I recently used HardSPL which i followed the directions for exactly and was going fine. I got the part where it was copying the new ROM to the device with the RUU tool and at when the progress was at 20% an error came up and said it lost connection and to do the recovery procedure.
I have done that many times sucessfully, but since that happened when trying to load the Rom in the RUU again the progress stays at 0% and theres is an connection error so i can not load any Rom.
On the tri-color screen on the device it switches from serial to USB when connected to the computer so it seems like it is connected, but nothing will transfer and it seems to be stuck in the tri-color screen mode no matter what I do.
Please help me!! I will be happy to make a donation if you can please help me get this to work. I followed all the instructions exactly and it was going fine when suddenly it disconnected and now I fear i just wasted 500 on this device i'll never be able to use.

I have the Exact same problem. I flashed with no problem the Q-Mobile_v1.2 ROM, reboted, hard reset it, and got it working; then I flashed the Radio v1.27.12.17 ROM I got to 95% then got an error and took me to recovery procedure.
From then on I get to 0% and then again error.
I have HARD-SPL installed so when I remove the battery and reinstall it I get the tricolor screen. Displays "serial", then plug usb cable and the display changes to "USB", I run customRUU it detects the phone, and gets me through to update screen where I click "update" then 0% and back step one.
I already tried to restore original ROM (ATT ROM:1.57.502.2
RADIO: 1.27.12.11) it gets to 1 or 2% and the gets me a 294 error: Invalid Vender ID
I own an ATT HTC 8925
Any ideas How we can get out of this?

On the tricloloured screen it says

Will a hard reset do anything?

Many faced the "White Screen" problem during HardSPL, and the workaround is described by the thread as mentioned by "TQM" below. Anyway, a few of us (including myself) still cannot HardSPL even we have followed all the steps proposed in the " HardSPL will not install - WHITE SCREEN: SOLVED". Please read my post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1850348&postcount=101 and if anybody have any solution, please contribute.

hi,

thanks for the responses. but when i ran the jump file from the devise the tricolour screen appeared but right after i unplug the usb, after the USB sign appeared, i ran the file kaisercutomruu and followed the instructions. It said on the instructions that make sure you activesync is connected. i was not connected to activesync as the connection gets lost after some minutes of teh the tricolour screen. But i think that doesnt matter because the software started running from the phone..But it quickly went to 100% as compare to the instructions where it said it should take up to 10 mins. now i dont understand what is wrong here. Because in the end the file which was running did not show any error. I should have got "SPL-1.0 OliPof" on the top left of my phone in the start but its not coming.

Please help me and once again thanks for the posts.

Try this:

1. After you run JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe, you will get the Rainbow screen on your device with "USB" appears on it
2. Unplug and replug. IMPORTANT: The activeSync will not establish. So what you need to do is to make sure the USB is connected. How? Open your PC/Laptop's Windows Device Manager. In Vista, you should find "Mobile Device" in the device list. In XP, if not mistaken, you should get something like "Windows Mobile". This shows that USB connection to your Kaiser is working (although ActiveSync not sync).
3. Run KaiserCustomRUU.exe from flash-hardSPL.zip on your PC, then follow instructions. Your Kaiser will reboot after this completed.
4. Just to make sure things are all okay, hold power+camera+reset and check the BootLoader screen, if successful you should see "SPL-1.0.OliPof" in the second line. Soft reset.

Hope that helps!

could someone explain to me how to get hard-spl working. i'm stuck at the tricolor screen and can't reestablish an activesync connection even after restarting the computer.

edit: got it working. i continued with gray activesync and it worked. htc rom is on it now :)

Just a suggestion for us dummies ( uh rookies, uh newbees), I was having the same problem and think I fixed it also....

Suggest the following changes to the directions (since we get FLAMED for not following the instructions EXACTLY):

- The active sync icon only needs to be green for the first tri screen load, once the utility starts on the pc, the active sync icon will be gray.
- you do not have to plug/unplug the USB cable 3 times ( even though it is written 3 times).
- the rom update you are doing is the HardSPL, so the version fields will be blank on the utility screen.

To test if the HardSPL was successful, do the following <no clue how to test, is there a way?>

maherb
29th January 2008, 12:12 AM
One more point, if you sync more than one phone or device with the same PC, you will need to disable all the other "sync" programs that are running in the background as you will have a green sync to start with then when the tri color screen comes and the computer icon goes to gray your computer will not recognize the phone again if you do not do that.

I've managed to unlock my device with HardSPL (and also upgraded my radio) without any problem. Then I've noticed that when my device is booting up, the ROM version on the (operator) splash-screen is 1.56.00.00.
Is there any way to changed it back to 1.56.405.5?

I have to say that I was so hoping to get this running. I have worked with other phones and have had no problems getting them going, but I have to this has got me stumped. I have done a number of different things, and I can't get this to work. I haven't seen anyone with my particular issue though ( close but nit quite)

My issue - Instead of getting the "Tri-Screen" mine , just goes white and then the USB disconnects (my green active-sync connection goes grey, and when I try to disconnect and reconnect - it's as if I have not plugged anything in at all - I have done the Power + Camera boot to the "tri-screen" but still this did not work - the ROM will go to the update portion but never get even a single %. Then the ROM program on the PC gives me a connection error - Pretty strange results and so depressing I have to so
Prof has got so many Kudos, I really was hoping.

If anyone has any Ideas - I am open to hear them.
Thanks guys - great posts keep them up.

4. Just to make sure things are all okay, hold power+camera+reset and check the BootLoader screen, if successful you should see "SPL-1.0.OliPof" in the second line. Soft reset.

I have the exact same issue, my only thought is that this has already been applied to this phone?? Dunno.. Please help!

Good Afternoon,

I am a Novice in Mobile Techknowlogy and have no Comprehension of the proper way of inquiring how to proceed with a querie on how to change my Mobile HTC TyTn II GERMAN to English. I noted you have been able to convert your HTC TyTn II to English. I have a Swiss German ORANGE Mobile Device which is in German. I have NO ability to READ, Speak, OR UNDERSTAND this Language. I have executed the Hard Spl. that was given and works perfeckly, I have also Ulocked the Simlock as well. This Mobile was given to me as a Loyal client from Orange. So now to USE This Mobile device I NEED the English Rom and all the necessary steps in laymans terms to do a Proper Install to operate it properly. Thank You again in advance.

I've got a T-Mobile Vario III UK, R1.27.12.32.,G 22.45.88.07H, SPL-1.56.000. I tried to load the HardSPL v1 and followed the onscreen instruction. After pressing OK to run the software and pressing continue on the donations page. My screen goes blank (white) and never sees the tri-colour screen as specified. I've tried many times and waited from 3-15mins and the screen still stays blank. I had to press soft-reset in order to get the phone running again.

I'm not sure where I'm going wrong or is it that T-mobile has some sort of new lock on the device. I've read through many pages in this forum, and have not found the answer yet. Please help.

Sorry, 46 pages, after the 8th or 9th I got overloaded. Just 2 quick questions, are there more than one HardSPL variants?

I've seen another forum with 3 different files to 'unlock' the phone, is it better/newer/different than this one zip file? This zip file seems to have taken, I'm able to install other ROM's. I have an ATT Tilt, purchased 3 weeks ago.

The real question is, ATT/Cingular has a way to 'query' your phone to get the IMEI. Is there a way to turn this off? I don't want ATT/Cingular knowing I have a Tilt, I used to have the 3125 and the $20 unlimited smartphone plan, I put the chip into the Tilt and the internet works fine. But I know from the past, they can query the phone and get the IMEI, so their system at one point may realize I have a Tilt and then I risk overage charges, which is stupid in general. Anyways, ATT said some phones support their polling/querying feature and others don't, I know that the Tilt supports this feature, a friend as a Tilt and ATT figured it out automatically when he went to call them to update his IMEI. I need to disable the polling feature or have it report a different IMEI to the tower.

Sorry, 46 pages, after the 8th or 9th I got overloaded. Just 2 quick questions, are there more than one HardSPL variants?

1) I've seen another forum with 3 different files to 'unlock' the phone, is it better/newer/different than this one zip file? This zip file seems to have taken, I'm able to install other ROM's. I have an ATT Tilt, purchased 3 weeks ago.

2) The real question is, ATT/Cingular has a way to 'query' your phone to get the IMEI.

3) Is there a way to turn this off?

4) I don't want ATT/Cingular knowing I have a Tilt, I used to have the 3125 and the $20 unlimited smartphone plan, I put the chip into the Tilt and the internet works fine.

5) But I know from the past, they can query the phone and get the IMEI, so their system at one point may realize I have a Tilt and then I risk overage charges, which is stupid in general.

6) Anyways, ATT said some phones support their polling/querying feature and others don't, I know that the Tilt supports this feature, a friend as a Tilt and ATT figured it out automatically when he went to call them to update his IMEI.

7) I need to disable the polling feature or have it report a different IMEI to the tower.

1) If this file worked for you, then go with it. No reason to unlock the SPL twice.

2) Legally, your contract with AT&T gives them the right to verify the IMEI of the device you are currently using with your account, regardless of what they use that information for.

3) You would be breaking your contract with AT&T by blocking your IMEI.

4) Technically, whenever you change your device, you "should" either contact customer support to let them know, or change your device in your My Wireless account. The 3125 was a handset that is allowed to use the data package that you had on it. Although you have no issues with your data plan on the Tilt, legally speaking as far as your contract with AT&T, the Tilt is considered a PDA handset not a smartphone, and whether you agree with their business practices or not, you still have to play by the rules and change your data plan to a PDA Unlimited package.

5) And if they do this, and you are using a Tilt, you obviously know YOU are breaking the rules of your contract with AT&T, not them. Let me guess, if and WHEN they do find out, your going to be they type of immature person to feign ignorance and cry thru your teeth that you didnt know and its would be unfair to backcharge you for all that data usage costs your were technically stealing from AT&T? Perhaps you should try being responsible for yourself in this matter?

6) Most likely, its just some of their basic handsets, or older models from before the merger with Cingular that may not operate this way, but from all I understand, your IMEI gets pushed out every time you connect to the AT&T network when you turn the phone on and it connects to the cell towers.

7) What you need to do is be responsible for your own actions. Reporting a false IMEI is not only shady, but "could" be considered an illegal action depending on situations. Put in one term, you use this so-called IMEI changer, change the IMEI on your phone, and call in a bomb threat to some school or airport, then change your IMEI back to your own. Obviously when you get busted, and your propery is searched, no phone is ever found with that IMEI number. Your lawyer gets you off the hook since physical evidence that YOU made the call can not be found (i.e. the handset with the false IMEI). Still doesnt mean your innocent of calling in the threat, OR using the phone for an illegal purpose. Obviously, stealing data and calling in a bomb threat are totally different situations, but technically speaking, your guilty for both of them if you get caught.

Grow a pair and take responsibility for yourself. You know what the phone costs to operate. If you cant justify the costs, you shouldnt have gotten the phone. Gotta pay to play...

Hey Guys,

I have successfully unlocked my phone previously locked to Orange UK but i was reading here in the Forums that i have to reinstall my previous radio version. I dont know how to install that. My previous radio version was 1.27.12.29 and now i have 1.27.12.11. I think my battery runs out very quickly nowadays, it was not the case when i unlocked my phone 10 days ago. Can you please tell if this is because of the radio version? If that is the case then please somebody give me the solution.

If i use this and flash another rom to my device and flash it back to my original vario ROM, will there be any traces left? Hi All -
I think I have read every document about this and am still no further. ;(
I havetried XP - Vista (and changing the Vusta Active sync driver) and then XP again.
I can start off all good, get to the point where I have to disconnect the USB cable, When I reconnect there is no way in hell the green light comes back on? I have to restart Active sysn and the phone? where o where art though green light of freedom? Im sure its a V1650 issue. in Device manager its listed as a v1650 not HTC Mobile device.
PS Its a brand new install of XP with all updates XP SP2 ?
Tried the mtty.exe boot too?

What state is the Kaiser in after running Hard-SPL?
Does running this process leave the unit with existing ROM loaded but CID Unlocked? - Or does it unlock it and leave it without a ROM?
Just want to know if I can use it to unlock my kiaser in preparation for future ROM changes without killing my exsiting Hutch Rom. Thnx

This tool is EXCELLENT, but there is something that I found confusing and didn't figure out that I was doing wrong until watching persiansown's YouTube video.

The wizard tells you to establish an activesync connection at a point when the device should remain in bootloader, and this led me to bang my head on my desk for two hours.

First time doing this so please be gentle :) I read through the first post but ran into one little problem right away. I don't have activesync (I run Linux) and have never been able to sync directly with the device. It's never been a problem for me though because I always install programs directly to the device using cab files. HardSPL is an exe though. I know I can place the HTC ROM onto a storage card for the install but is it possible to install HardSPL that way too? Forgive me if this is a dumb noob question or if it was already addressed. Any other alternative methods of installation?

I used the HardSPL software in this thread (which I think was succesfull) but after upgrading with DCSv1.5-WM6.1 nothing has happened and I'm still stuck with the branded ROM. I do feel that the upgrade process went really really fast (less than 2 minutes), while the software said it might take op to 10 minutes. Anyone who can help me out. First and foremost, great app. Worked like a charm on my Tilt. I've run into a bit of a slump though... for some reason when I try to do it to my friend's Tilt, after i run the app to kick it into bootloader, it just stays stuck on a white screen. Not only that, but even if I reset and then enter bootloader manually, it'll run the RUU with no problem, but then it doesnt do anything and then just goes through to the error recovery process.. Can anyone help me out on this one? It worked perfectly fine for my Tilt.

Thanks for the helpfull advice. NOT

For anyone else who may be wondering where their device will end up after running the Hard-SPL process.... This is what I discovered, but could not get a simple answer from anyone in these forums..

1) Does Hard-SPL replace the existing ROM? No it does not. Your existing ROM image is retained.

2) One must load a new ROM imediatley after the process to get the unit operational again. Correct? NO - this is Incorrect. Once complete you can happily keep using the device with existing ROM and data intact until such time as you choose to load a new ROM image.

Please correct me if I ma wrong. This is what I found by trial and error. I trust this is useful to other newbies like me.

It didn't go to reboot even wait fo 10 minutes.
Was there any problem for installation? Was it success or not?

when i run the program, i connect with active sync, than hit enter. than i accept the program on the AT7T Tilt. the screen than goes white and never hits the tri colored screen. are there some settings or anything that i have to prepare in the phone? by the way i am using windows XP. I have followed the steps to a T but have only gotten through the first one.
