After flashing HardSPL you'll be able to flash any Kaiser ROM to your device!

This tool will allow you to change the ROM language, flash cooked ROMs, custom splash screens, etc...

Connect Kaiser to computer using USB cable
Make sure ActiveSync icon is GREEN
RUN kaiser-HardSPL.exe on Computer (PC)
Follow instructions on screen:

screen and follow the steps until you see the tri-color screen.

Device screen should be now TRI-COLOR and show "USB"

Phone screen should now be tri-color and the activesync icon gray
if not, the loading process has failed and you'll have to repeat it again.

If all was OK hit ENTER and the standard "PDA Phone ROM Update Utility"
window will start, allowing you to flash HardSPL on your device.

Hit CTRL+C to Cancel or ENTER to continue...

Follow the steps on the wizard to flash HardSPL, when finished your
device will reboot. It should last no more than 1 minute.

Are you using vista..sometimes it doesnt look for a new set of drivers for the Phone when its in tri color mode..try rebooting and leaving the phone in tri color mode...once you do that, start from scratch after it gets all the drivers installed

I dont understand what you mean? We don't know how to build roms yet. I am starting to work on that today though and see what I can come up with. If the files you want are cabs you can use the built in file explorer and copy the cabs to your storage card and then run them when you install i different rom.

I would like to be able to try the origonal rom from HTC but have the ability to go back to the t-mobile rom for warrentry purposes and also in case it has better features etc etc

Neither kaiser nor Cingular rom will load..... As soon as the flash starts, I get the disconnection ding at 1% and:

INVALID VENDER ID

With cingular wwe rom!

Would that be the same for a UK t-Mobile User? Unfortunately I have applied the Hard spl already so does this mean that if I flash teh htc rom onto it I will be stuck with the HTC rom and cant go back to the T-Mobile one ? ( lol if i ever learn how to make a backup of it :P)

@joedoe & sirsycho: The RUU from shipped ROMs is ok if you flash a full NBH containing OS, but it will format storage (hard reset) on your device even if you flash only a splash screen or a radio, so I've created a CustomRUU which should be fine to flash custom parts, will only format device if you flash OS. I ran this program and it seems to have succeeded. Being anal I tried to run mtty and do a getdeviceinfo to see what had changed from before running the CID unlock.

Unfortunately mtty will no longer connect. Has anyone else had this trouble or am I just being thick?

download the HardSPL in the first post! Download the Kaiser HTC shipped Rom in the sticky run the exe after you download it thats it! Not hard next time please read all info about flashing ROM's you can read the Hermes Wiki its just like the Kaiser in most ways

One easy fix is to just flash the HTC rom. I'm able to remap the PTT button to whatever without a problem. :)

P.S. You should get a Tilt anyway. ;)

First, donations are sent to Pof and Oli, thanks guys! I don't need to flash cause this thing picks up right where Hermes left off and more. But I'm sure I will want to soon as the iron chefs bring out their wares.

Second, I'm really pine'ing away for something like VJlumos or, a link to be able to map a hard key to use the HTC's home app called "adjust display" that steps the display from dim to brite in 4 steps. This screen is not good outside and needs a quick way to bump brightness when needed. I pray that I'm not the only one looking for something like this.

I was wondering that myself, but I imagine it will still be sim locked due to the HTC rom not really changing the sim lock information in the phone just the OS/GUI.

Bare with me guys, I just picked up my att kaiser last friday and have loved every second of it... well almost. I've noticed the GPRS (GPS?) settings are lacking and I can't get google mobile map software to recognize/use the GPS built-in.

Is the built-in GPS crippled with the att ROM because they make you pay monthly to use it? I own a copy of TomTom6 I plan on installing as soon as my 4gig microSD comes in the mail. I assume TomTom's not going to work though because ATT prevented it?

Someone post a link to all these fancy HTC screens and managers that make possibly bricking my kaiser worth it all?

I'll probably hold off going to the HTC ROM until I know I can safely go back to my original ATT ROM mostly in case the HTC ROM can't give me the EDGE and 3G connectivity the ATT one does...

Am I missing the boat on this stuff...

WOW GPSVIEWER IS NOT EVEN A MIDLET BUDDY! You must be really new here huh? you download the .cab file or exe file and run it from windows or create a shortcut to your programs folder. Hell just download TomTom from the kaiser thread there is a whole 100 threads about that! this is not rocket science this is windows mobile you need an app to jump start the built in GPS end of story. No HardSPL will ask you for NO rom it is a HardSPL which patched your SPL so you can flash any ROM you like since you wont have a CID lock on your phone any more I suggest go back and read some more try the Hermes Wiki since its the same as the Kaiser JUST DON'T FLASH ANY HERMES ROMS!!

FYI... Live Mobile supports the Kaiser GPS fine if you are looking to test or painlesslessy get GPS running.

1. Open mobile browser, go to "http://wls.live-int.com"
2. install for Pocket PC
3. Run cab
4. Go to Start "Live Search"
5. "Menu", "Settings", change GPS to "GPS COM4" (default for Tilt)
6. Go to Live Search Home screen and select "Map"
7. "Menu" and "Center on GPS".

The Kaiser GPS is not always reliable, but it does work. Typically the location arrow will stay gray for 10-30 seconds and it will turn orange and center your current location. Obviously works better outside.

Unfortunately, we (Microsoft) had the new Sprint talking version of Live Search posted as dogfood and it has since been removed from a public link. I'll update if it becomes available again.

This isn't as sexy as TomTom I'm sure, but it is free and small to install and has full search functionality.

To make it simple as possible and yes someone has asked for help before and it has been explained to them before, probably in this very same thread.

Donwnload Hard-SPL
Download your choice of ROM

Plug your phone via USB to your Windows machine, make sure Active Sync on Windows recognizes the phone and double click on HARD-SPL file you downloaded and follow on screen instructions. Your phone should restart and active sync will recognize your phone again.

Once that's done, use the exe. file of the ROM you want to use and follow the on screen instructions and choices with that one.


Not to sound like an a-hole, and I know people are excited about their new toys and just want to start tinkering with them....but please, take an hour or so and read through forum posts or use the search function and chances are you'll be able to find the answers yourself. These forums are filled with very friendly helpful individuals, but when the same questions get asked multiple times when the answer was just given just a few threads up sometimes in the same thread, you can see how some users and those creating ROMs or tools can get frustrated. Hey, I'm guilty if annoying some of them myself at one point.

I have read through alot of posts but I haven't found a clear answer for this. Can a Tilt user flash between the HTC original ROM and the ATT ROM? I have read through alot of posts but I haven't found a clear answer for this. Can a Tilt user flash between the HTC original ROM and the ATT ROM? I think Tilt users want to know in case they need to take their device back to ATT for any reason. Sorry if this is clearly stated somewhere, I apologize in advance if I missed it. Thanks...

Got the CID unlock loaded!! Thank you.

One problem, when the wizard instructions said to unplug and replug the USB, and since the phone was in the "tricolor screen" state, Vista automatically installed new drivers for the device and labled it as a "Windows Port Media Player". And after resetting my device, when i plugged the phone into usb, the computer wouldnt recogize it as an activesync device.

So, i unplugged my device and manually uninstalled the drivers in Device Manager. Plugged the device back in, now it recognizes as a "Pocket PC", but still no love from Activesync.

Any ideas?

As the title states, and as has been asked and answered many times already in this same thread, no. This will CID unlock your device only, not SIM unlock it.

Please research your question(s) before posting in the future. :)

Guys, here's a situation I'm hoping you can shed some light on.

So, there's these guys in Japan, chaimd, itamae and a few more trying to get an .exe called WIFIwake to work on their Kaisers. (The file is necessary to set up their carrier's flat-rate connection, but that's probably not really important.)

The same guys were trying to get the same file to work on their Treo 750s some months back, and only succeeded after applying your Super-CID treatment to that machine. Apparantly there is something in this .exe that looks at (or accesses, or validates, or whathaveyou) the CID when it runs. It should be noted that it was only your CID unlock that did the trick, other CID unlocks did not allow the program to run.

So, when you most graciously and ingeniously developed the CID Unlock for Kaiser, these guys were all like, "Yes! Now WIFIwake will work on our Kaisers!" (Except they probably were speaking Japanese.)

Needless to say, it didn't work - but here's where it gets weird, and here's where you guys might know what is going on - they patched the .exe with the previous CID (before the CID Unlock) and now somehow it works.

Any light to shed on this mystery?

Why is there all kinds of things for newers pda's and still not much progress on the Herald? Touch came out and they found ways to bypass the CID lock and same with the kaiser, but the Herald have sometime on the market and still not much progress!!!

I've followed the steps exactly and just cant seem to get anywhere with this as far as unlocking my new tilt. I'll try to describe this as short as possible, I load the kaiser-HardSPLv1 when I've got green activsync, then I hit continue and the tri color screen loads, then I unplug and replug and activesync shows grey. Finally, the RUU loads, sorry if thats the wrong spelling, and I follow the instructions and my device's rom never shows up, so I hit upgrade and it says it should take a minute and mine just takes about a second or two and my phone reboots. My phone is totally fine, but I know its not unlocked because when I load the software to check tri color screen its still shows generic. Last thing, I've tried it on Windows xp and Vista, same probs.

All of your help is so greatly appreciated,

Downloaded Profs Hard SPL and followed it to a T and now stuck at tri-color screen. when I try to flash any rom to it I get connection error or vender id error.
What is next for me?
I've used Hard SPL on my touch and no problems.

I seem to be stuck at this error for my new AT&T Tilt. I am using the Kaiser HardSPL, and it appear to have taken as it launches when I try to install the HTC ROM. for I get to 1% on the phone and then it quits.

The error always is:
ERROR [294] : INVALID VENDER ID

What am I missing?

The ROM update utility states:

From: 1.57.502.2
To: 1.56.405.5 (which is the HTC build)


Also I tried running Muty but it doesnt see the USB port. However Under Device Manager, I see Mobile Devices - Microsoft USB Sync show up when I do a reset.

Update....

So I was playing around with this a bit more, and I bricked my phone. One time it went to 16% and then just hung there forever. After reboot, all I get now is:

RUUNBH
KAIS1*0
SPL-1.56.0000
CPLD-8

three colors and USB.

The PDA Phone ROM update utility does recogize the the NBH 1.56.405.5 version, but it only goes to 1% and then the phone reboots.

HELP!

No matter what I do now, I cant get any ROMUpdateUtility to get past 1%. It hits 1% and reboots. This doesnt look good.
After the reboot, the ROM update utility states Error [294]: INVALID VENDOR ID

yeah im getting the INVALID VENDOR ID error too when i try and load the HTC ROM after the hardspl ran fine, it loaded the wizard, but wouldnt recognize my ROM version, so i stopped it. then just tried loading the ROM manually from the .exe, and this is where im getting the error. not even sure the hardspl went through. but my phone is ok. im gonna read some more and see what i find.

To all newbs like me that has never done this before, just keep reading and use the search feature, i promise it will pay off. before i wasnt letting the flash proceed after i didnt see any of my ROM info on the update ROM screen on the wizard. I assumed my phone wasnt connected, but evidently your not supposed to see a ROM vers (maybe since this is flashing the bootloader), the active sync WILL be grey, but it will all still work, just hit update and your done.

now go flash whatever ROM you want, go flash your neighbor while your at it!!

FYI... Live Mobile supports the Kaiser GPS fine if you are looking to test or painlesslessy get GPS running.

1. Open mobile browser, go to "http://wls.live-int.com"
2. install for Pocket PC
3. Run cab
4. Go to Start "Live Search"
5. "Menu", "Settings", change GPS to "GPS COM4" (default for Tilt)
6. Go to Live Search Home screen and select "Map"
7. "Menu" and "Center on GPS".

The Kaiser GPS is not always reliable, but it does work. Typically the location arrow will stay gray for 10-30 seconds and it will turn orange and center your current location. Obviously works better outside.

Unfortunately, we (Microsoft) had the new Sprint talking version of Live Search posted as dogfood and it has since been removed from a public link. I'll update if it becomes available again.

This isn't as sexy as TomTom I'm sure, but it is free and small to install and has full search functionality.

Why oh why couldnt I have found this 3 hours ago... Been trying to get Live search GPS to work all morning, figured it out about an hour before reading this, stupid com4 :) Serves me right for starting with the GPS forums...

Another tidbit that may help some (if it hasnt already been posted here somewhere) is that the QuickGPS download program (Start > Programs > Tools > QuickGPS) should help with startup GPS acquisition times. Supposedly it cuts it down from as much as 30 seconds down to 6-10.

Off I go to search away on all the goodies out there before I start asking stupid questions =)

First this forum rocks. All the answer can be found- it just time- to learn how to find them.

Second- I HIGHLY discourage flashing your ROM from Vista 64- at least without a backup XP machine around. For I had to use MTTY, and the drivers are not compatible with Vista. However if you search on the web, you can find links to drivers that do work with MTTY. This was how I used MTTY from Vista64 to boot again.

Finally I found a forum about another user who had their Tilt bricked:

Ok, so here is where I am at.

The screen has tri-color with SPL-1.JumpSPL (I think that means the CID was successful)

As far as I can tell I need to re-establish an activesync connection and I should be able to flash one of the AKU 0.7.0 ROMS to this just by launching the .exe of that. I have tried launching that, and it says to re-estabish the ActiveSync before proceeding...should I just go ahead with that anyways? Or do I NEED that connection.

When I plug my phone in, Vista installs the Microsoft USB Sync drivers and I cant get Mobile Device Center to re-establish any connection, either with my Tilt or the Micorsoft USB Sync. I can NOT turn my device off by holding the Power button, and I have already tried restarting Vista, and uninstalling the phone drivers. Any advice.

Yeah, it said USB Port couldnt be opened.

As I said, my Tri-Color says:

First if using vista and Stuck at the Tri-color screen at initila boot, you need to boot it into an image. To do I used mtty- and connect to the USB. IT MUST OPEN and then hit enter twice and type in boot.

Now Vista drivers out of box dont work with MTTY. So follow this post to get thos drivers:

also make sure you do all these steps after launching Vista w/ F8- Driver enforcement disabled.

Then install Kaiser-HardSPL. go with the defaults, and let it install itself.

The install any ROM after that :-)

So my phone freezes in the tricolor and the active sync never goes grey. Tried rebooting the cpu. Nothing. The only way to get my phone to do anything is after removing and re-inserting the battery then it comes up as if I have done nothing. The only major change I have made really is putting in resco explorer. Maybe this affects it? Its an ATT tilt btw.

Update. So when I run the hardspl it redetects the phone driver and changes it to be in device manager as mobile devices...microsoft USB sync....before running hardspl it is under portable devices..windows mobile-based device....

This website has instructions for Vista Users to get Hard SPL to work. These must be done before you will be able to flash your phone.

I have read all the kaiser forums here many times before I would even consider posting my problem. I of course attempted just forging ahead even though the active sync stayed green. It fails at the end of the RUU and says that my device is not connected and to please connect it. So maybe you should think before you flame someone.

Just wondering if any UK orange users had successfully used this? Got the orange kaiser too and am thinking about the htc 'switch' over! I also can't figure out how to back up the original orange rom in case of emergencies. It seems this involves a series of quite complex steps which my poor brain finds challenging. I'm doing my research (trawling these well informeed threads) but a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!

I just got my AT&T 8925 last Friday.
I thought I might get rid of all the crap and lockouts that these people have put in the phone, as well as uncripple the phone I hope, but I'm getting the following after I start the hard spl .exe program.
I first get the prompt to make sure that activesync is running. This is true and it shows that the device is synchronized.
I press enter and then get the following:

ERROR: CreateProcess failed with Errorcode = 30123
- UNKNOWNERROR: 0x000075ab
Kaiser JumpSPL is running on your device, please check your device
screen and follow the steps until you see the tri-color screen.
When done hit ENTER to continue...

What could cause this and how do I get around it?
I don't have a jump screen appearing. I gather that is what the create process error is all about.

I tried running the SoftSpl, the one you run from the device, and it ran a bit better but at the point where I am told to unplug and re-plug the cable it just sits there.

No, that would require a SIM unlock. This allows you to run others OS's.

I understand what you mean I also get the same thing.
My earlier post indicated that I get an error. Well, a soft-reset fixes that problem but it as you describe.
I get the tricolor screen unplug and replug the usb cable and nothing else happens.
Is your phone running 1.57.502.2?
I wonder if anyone has compiled a list of what roms are for what?
BTW, the soft spl gets to the same point and has the same behavior.

Just a quick update incase its important.
I tried using the update utility to jsut reflash the current version of the rom back to the device.
Flashing 1.57.502.2 to 1.57.502.2 and got the following error. (copied only the important part of the screen).

I brought my Kasier in Taipei, last week.
The shop where I brought it flashed the ROM with the English Software.
So I assume that the phone can be flashed and Hard-SPL is not necessary.
Any way to check this, without trying to flash it?
The only downside to getting the phone there, were the CD's were Chinese,
so I am not able to use any of the bundled programs.:(
Downloaded ActiveSync 4.5 so I have that.

if you'd successfully "HARDSPL" ( and only after successfully done ) ...

without connecting to the desktop ... open up ACTIVESYNC and select/delete ALL partnership ...etc

your device is now should act just like a new device and establish a new partnership ...

REMEMBER .. when trying to establish a new partnership ... make sure you don't have multi windows open because at the 1st window prompting you to click "OK" ... that window somehow is not "visible" on the task bar ...etc ... so if you happens to click "minimized all" ... it will take that window with it too ! :eek:

start with a clear DESKTOP screen before attempting a new partnership !!

if establish new partnership is successful ... continue on with flashing ROM of choice ;)

I think I've tried every possibility that I can think of and I still don't see that it worked.
When I get the jump screen and say continue on the phone I get the tricolor alright but after no matter how I unplug/plug the cable I just get the usb connect sound on the pc.
Ideas?

I managed to dl and install kaiser hard spl and use it to flash the htc rom after searching through a microsoft thread which explained to me why my downloads of ative sync failed at 51% I had to get a windows update utility to finish the download ... something with a missing .dll file was halting the dl.

Thanks for the info unicornkaz... lol i wish i would have checked for a response earlier wouldve saved me some time....

Now that I am running the htc rom all my cingular apps are gone like medianet and also i cant go online or check my e-mail ..... while the look of this rom is soooooo much nicer unless i can find out whats wrong and fix it looks like i might have to flahs that craploaded at&t rom back.... any advice for me ????

I got the internet working but manually setting the medianet settings which I happened to have from when I needed to do the same to my old phone the Moto Ming and I did manage to get my e-mail set up but I feel like the original email setup on the stock att rom.... i think it was called xpress mail.... worked much better since it auto downloaded the full emails the way I have it set up only downloads a % of the email eash time I send/recieve which is confusing me a lot ....

Many THANKS to UNICORNKAZ for taking the time to help me out all this reading is making my head hurt but I definatly would recommend it to anyone thinking to mod their phone.... everything I have done has worked perfectly after much research and using the crappy search function and finally asking the experts... again MANY THANKS !!!

Check the "auto connection setup" wizard in the settings menu of the kaiser ...

not sure if Cingular settings is included in the list or not ... :confused:

Im pretty sure that if you get the Sim unlock code you can unlock the phone no matter what rom is flashed on it, although even if you can not it is simple enough to flash back to the rom that came on your device. But again I am under the impression that the sim unlock code you recieve will work regardless :D. I am actually going to call at&t tommorow and get my sim unlock code for my tilt, just gonna tell them im going to travel in europe and I need the phone unlocked to use a european phone company's sim card.

This question was already answered many times and its pretty simple, in any case before one of the elders scolds you ...lol...

If you want to sim unlock your phone you need to call your provider and ask for the sim unlock code. For example I have at&t in the states and im going to call them and tell them im going to europe and ask them for my sim unlock code....

Great forum. Been reading for days, did a couple of posts.
November 24, eligible for 2 upgrades with AT&T.
Already have an HTC Kaiser, which I got in Taipei.
Only problem is the CD's are in Chinese, so can't use the GPRS Monitor or any other program.
(Have'nt been able to get GPS to work, yet.:mad: )
I am planning on getting 2 AT&T Tilts with my upgrade and than flash
the HTC ROM to them. :D
I should be able to use the GPRS program that comes with the AT&T Tilts.
AT&T has always unlocked my phones before, so I don't see a problem here.

I was talking about your desktop PC or the laptop where you execute the HardSPL...

If you have Windows XP, then install the Microsoft .NET framework if you haven't.

I suppose that when your phone is superCID you can change your rom everytime without to have to re-use hard-SPL.

I did the Hard-SPL and followed the instructions to a T. The phone rebooted after the hards-spl and everything worked fine. I installed BlackBerry Connect to my device and it rebooted. Now it just sits at the windows mobile screen and won't proceed any farther. Anybody have an idea why?

BTW, for anyone following my mini saga, after I went in and raised a ruckus, the AT&T store replaced the Tilt they had sold me (as new) which had already been surreptitiously flashed with an earlier version of Dutty's ROM.

Based on comments here that they'd blame it on me and that I'd never be able to prove that it came that way, I went in and acted dumb. Saying that when I called AT&T to ask about the missing bloat...er software, they went through it with me and said that someone had flooded or flushed my Ram or something like that 'cause I didn't know what they were talking about, but all I knew was, I wanted a new AT&T outfitted Tilt. So they gave me one.

And now I'm ready to do my OWN flashing!

Hard SPL does the CID unlocking, if you want to sim unlock you need to go to www.imei-check.co.uk or similar or there are people on this forum that can do it for you. There is currently no free way of performing a sim unlock. I had mine done at the aforementioned website and got the code in a matter of minutes. One thing is though that they ask you to verify your paypal account by sending a scan of your id (passport/driving license etc) which I thought was strange. Has anybody else done this?

yeah same happened with mine, I got a bit worried cos active sync wasnt going green but i just bit the bullet and pressed update anyway and it worked. As long as you connect your usb back up it should work ok.

My TyTn II is on Orange UK. I followed the instructions but I still can't not do it

How many time do I have to unplug and replug ? I tried it 3 times but the green icon is still on although I can't see my TyTn II in my computer.

I tried to leave the tri color screen with the word USB on and rebooting my computer and it doesn't seem to work at all.

Bypass the gray icon should appears, I proceed to the unlocking wizard to update the ROM but it doesn't show any information of the current Rom on my TyTn II
Please could any one help.
