How can I assign short press to silent mode and long press to to the in-call Mute function,not to be confused with the silent profile or the silence ringer function. I am looking to Mute the microphone. I don't see any such program in the assign a program list. Thanks

Please download attached file. unzip to any folder on your Pocket PC. browse to new unzipped folder and then run PTT_Fix_4Tilt.exe from that folder from your device.

I will post Cab in few days. Thanks to all who find the solution. I just put all solution in file for easiness.

I have finally hit the end of the thread but still I am not able to do what I want. I have seen the question asked and the replies but it seem my issue is a little different.

I want to use the PTT to start the notes voice recording when I push it and stop when I release.

I have Successfully remapped the PTT button to the \Windows\AppButtons\record.lnk -b which points to hotvoice.exe.
Looking in the button reassigment GUI I even get the right icon.

This should allow me to use the PTT button to control the voice recorder but when I try it I get a message about not being able to open Record.lnk -b (not being signed with a trusted certificat or a component cannot be found).

If I try to tap the executable itself under the windows catalogue, unlike other executables that would fire up the program nothing happens.

Im running on an AT&T 8525 WM6 (officially downloaded from HTC via AT&Ts link). ROM version 3.62.502.3

Did AT&T intentionally disable the hotvoice.exe as if removing the mapping of the PTT button was not enough??

Anyone else has this issue?
Doesn't hotvoice.exe normally start like any other executable...

I did the same thing, but my record.lnk points to a program called "msvoice".

You have to make sure that the registry data is in quotes "\Windows\AppButtons\record.lnk" -b and that the -b is outside the quotes.
Also if you open up the "Buttons" setting, and look at the button assignments, for some reason it will erase it.
If it doesn't take, try it again with the regedit, and it must be on 40C7, Button 6(Hold).
Just make sure not to open up the "Buttons" assignment app in settings.


Another thing I tried that worked was to copy the "Record.lnk" from the Windows\AppButtons\" directory to the Startmenu\Programs\ directory and then used the "Buttons" settings to assign it, and it seems to work without the -b option.

eh guys i tried pttfix.cab...and it makes another button #5 for voice command..but wheni press the ptt button it doesnt work..STILL GOES TO PTT APPLICATION..THEN WHEN I RESET I GET A BUNCHA ERRORS WHEN THE PHONE RELOADS..SO I JUST UNINSTALLED IT..ANYBODY HAVE NAY IDEAS? ...sry for caps...anybody know if after i install schapps pttfix or whatever do i need to hold down pwower key and shut down like that?

Does anyone know how to remapp the PTT button to lock the device? I already have button 6 created and edited what i needed to in the registry, but i think i need a program so i can put "device lock" in the assign buttons location. Does anyone have this CAB that they can post so I can download?

Just wanted to say thanks to Asfoor for the solution he posted. It worked great for my at&t Tilt. The only thing I did differently was use a different registry editor, but the whole process took less than 5 minutes.

I don't know if some one had answered this question previously. Anyway, in order for the new assgined Button 6 to work, you also need to delete the PTT key found in the registry:

HKLM/Services/PTT

Some one may want to verify this address, as I have deleted my key and I cannot verify it.

For all of you looking for an easy fix, and dont mind flashing a new rom Sleuth newest rom is amazing it has regedit already installed for any other red edits you may want to do but it also has already been edited so that you can reassign the ptt button right in the settings button section. he has pre assigned them to be voice dialing and voice recording. Aboslutely amazing

Here is the final solution to the Ring-Vibrate-Mute button for the AT&T Tilt.

I tried VibraSwitch but there were radio disconnect issues...

Here is the ultimate solution to make a switch on the Tilt to make it easy to silence the ringer when you forget during a meeting. I knitted together several procedures from others, forgive me for not crediting.

In the end, the otherwise useless PTT button will cycle from sound-on to vibrate. If you hold the PTT button, it will cycle from sound-on to mute.

Is that what you want? Is that what you need? Say, “Hell yeah!”

Kill PTT and make it assignable:

Here are the simple step-by-step instructions to reassign the PTT to whatever program you want:
1. You need the two files attached herewith, copied onto your Sd Storage Card
2. Start the Task manager and in the "processes drop down window, select RegEdit.
3. In the registry navigate to the hklm\services\ptt
4. Click and hold on to the yellow ptt folder, then a prompt appears, select "Delete" then exit. Do a Soft Reset.
5. Click on "Start" and File Explorer, Storage card and install the OEM_Assign_PTT_Button.CAB onto your device.
6. Do a Soft Reset.

Next, install HButton:

Get the CAB and install it. Here’s the link to the file:

Go the your programs.
Open the HButton folder
Click on HBSetup
Click the box for HButton5
At the top click on the box with the “>” until you get “Button 6”
Check the box for “cycle”
Where is says <none>, click the down triangle and find <Toggle Sound Vibra> and click “add
Click ok

Your gonna do it again, but this time,
Click the box for HButton6
At the top click on the box with the “>” until you get “Button 6 (Hold)”
Check the box for “cycle”
Where is says <none>, click the down triangle and find <Toggle Sound Mute> and click “add
Click ok

Before you leave HButton, set the delay to 200ms
Click ok and close HButton.

Go to your Today screen and press the PTT button...
You're smiling, aren't you!
If you press PTT again it goes back to "sound"

Now press and hold PTT.
You've even got a bigger smile on your face now, right?

I tried to locate the CMD .dll of 'Record" on Resco Audio Recorder, but it is close to impossible. I believe this is what you need; To press the Assigned PTT button to a recording software, then if you press and hold, it will start recording and when you release it will stop... Am I correct? That means three functions for the ptt button... Starting the recording program, Start recording and end recording. If someone can trace the "Record" CMD of the audio Recorder program, then we might have a solution.

OK - just picked up my Tilt. I read this thread in it's entirety. My head hurts.

Just install PTT_Fix_4Tilt and walah, it worked! yay... when I did a soft reset, i got an error msg. BUT the in the settings all's well.

Got it mapped for S2U2 and SPB Mobile Shell Now screen.

thanks so much i missed tat feature on my old nextel lol for some reason the button 5 diddnt work right away but i just removed the >toggle sound vibe and re added it and it fixed it lol
