View Full Version : What happens if I flash a German Vario 3 with ATT Rom to the Keyboard layout?
Hi,
I have a German MDA Vario 3 (German - T-Mobile OS and German QWERTZ ÄÖÜ) and I need to flash it with an US/UK OS.
I assume after unlocking the CID I can flash the device with either the Generic HTC Rom or the AT&T Tilt Rom.
So far so good, but what happens to the German Keyboard Layout, this isn't the same as The Tilt or Genereic HTC Layout.
Any Ideas?
Thanks
Mike

hello L2C
pls have a try this method:
in the path [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD]
change the "Curlang" data to 1031(Dec) or 407(Hex)
soft-reset~
if it doesnt work, pls tell me
i make a cab in case you havent a tool to edit registry
transfer the cab to kaiser and run it
softreset
Thanks for the swift help.
I am just hesitant to flash my device right now, I am unsure to use Soft SPL or Hard SPL.
Cheers

oh mike,you are welcome
i suggest u to flash the rom with hspl v1,in my opinion that's much safer than sspl.so far i've seen some flash rom unsuccessfully with sspl
u can follow pof's thread to get the hspl
if u flash AT&T Tilt Rom i think ur output would be not the same with ur german keyboard, because the LCID isnt the german one
then u could use the cab to fix it !
hope it can help u, i install the cab and my TyTNII's layout switches to QWERTZ
cheers~:D
Hi woohyuksheng,
thanks for your help, appreciate it!
One question, the cab you included in your post switches your QWERTY to QWERTZ, right?
But does it also switch QWERTZ to QWERTY (so back an fourth every time you install it?)

if yours is QWERTY originally, you patch the cab on your kaiser and after soft-reset that your keyboard output will become QWERTZ.
and of course u can remove the cab and give it a soft-reset,yours will be back to QWERTY.
in one word, this cab can only make your keyboard layout become QWERTZ,uninstall it,will become the original one.:)

Sheng:D
My keyboard is originally QWERTZ and I need a patch to make it QWERTY.
Sure that the one you posted will help me?

OK ,wait for your good message~
and one more choice u can take~
if u want it QWERTY like the Tilt, patch with this cab
the Tilt's QWERTY differs with the ordinary QWERTY
the symbol "@" and the "!" r upside down, maybe u can find it comparing the Tilt's pics with others~

Sheng
Hi Sheng
I got one more question for you, maybe to make myself a bit clearer.
I got the German T-Mobile Vario 3 (German Windows Mobile 6os and therefore a German Keyboard Layout (QWERTZ).
I want to give this device to someone in the US, he has an AT&T Sim card.
First question, what ROM works better for him:
AT&T Tilt Rom
or
HTC Original Rom
In any case, whatever ROM I flash the device with he will need a Keyboard patch applied.
Any answers;) ?
Thanks for your help

ok,i think u should flash the ATT rom for him.maybe ATT rom would fit him better, there r many ATT softwares in the rom.
that u dont need to install any keyboard patch,it would be QWERTY layout~
but the type on your keyboard wouldnt match the layout,if you want the keys match the layout,u can fix it with my cab in floor 2, up to u.:D
Regards
Sheng
You are the Man! Thanks
So to be clear:
Hard CID Unlock, then flash the device with ATT Rom and then apply this cab:
Tilt QWERTYsheng's keyboard patch.cab
Correct?

No thanks, after u flash the ATT ROM u need not to apply "Tilt QWERTYsheng's keyboard patch.cab" , and your device's layout is like a Tilt, but when u press the hard key "z"(between "t"and"u")on your keyboard it puts out "y",'cause your QWERTZ hard keyboard and Tile's keyboard are not the same, right?
and if you want to fix it ,u should apply the cab which i posted in floor 2,then while u press the hard key "z" (between "t"and"u"),your device puts out "z"

Hi Sheng
I flashed the AT&T Rom sucessfully, now in order to have the right keys assigned to the (hard-) keyboard I need to install: QWERTYsheng's keyboard patch.cab correct?

Hi Sheng
I installed the .cab from a microSD card installed into the device.
I turned it off completly and restarted it again, but the .cab doesnt seem to have an effect.
You said I need to reset it, how do I do this?

Everything works fantastic, Flashed AT&T Rom then installed the latest .cab you posted onto the device and every key (plus the ones that are acessible via the FN Buttons) are all in the right place!
Again, thanks for your help, fantastic Forum here!.
Just need a Simlock solution to be able to use the AT&T Sim, then the device is ready to fly ;)

Hi, Another Mike here with a similar problem.
Question - Sheng, will your cab work for other languages?
I've flashed the HTC WWE Rom to my Tytyn II, which is bought in Denmark - originally loaded with a Danish Rom , and Danish keyboard. So now, everythings great, except the keyboard doesn't act like it should (wrong letters are now assigned to key buttons). Basically the same problem as L2C had.

I would also be very interested in getting my swedish keyboard to work. From pictures it seems it is the same as the danish.
Pictures of all the keyboards can be found in the manuals for the specific language at http://www.htc.com/support/support_htctytnII.htm
Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated.

I've uploaded a mapping for the scandinavian kaiser keyboard for ‘AE Keyboard Mapper’. Go to 'layouts' at: http://ae.inc.ru/aekmap.php and filter for danish norwegian.

hi Sheng,
Thank you for your help. I got my Vario III few days back and flashed the original HTC rom. everything is fine. I also applied your registry changes for keyboard layout. It works but I am not able to get the ä ü ö characters which are on the spacebar key.
Can you please provide me with some clues to work around with it?

If you look in the windows folder of all Tytn II rom there are some cabs that are installed on a hardreset. One is named configure_key.cab
Could that cab install the country specific keymappings?
I dont know how to check the settings and content of a cab so perhaps it is something else :)

I find this very useful. I flashed my Tytn II from German to English and that little thing (z to y ) bodering me truly. There are some thougts to go to service and fisicly change keypads, but letter "z" have a number "1"....:):)
Now, thanks to this advice....
Great!
