Author Thread---http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html.

XDA-Developers thread to discuss (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330855).
Thought of attaching CAB but I would like divert traffic to authors site where you can donate.

I have tested this on wing. Its is very light weight and does what it is supposed to. you can feel that you are working on windows PC.

Strongly recommended for rom cookers in their ROMs .

What is WkTASK?

WkTASK shares features of both Task Manager and Program Launcher for Windows Mobile. You can switch all running programs smoothly like desktop Windows, and launch applications easily. Not only stylus operation but also key operation is available. Although the look & feel closely matches the theme color and make the 3D gradation, its CPU and memory usage are low.
Features
Task-list
Using the upper bar, you can watch, switch, close and force termination running programs.

To exclude a task from the list, tap&hold it and select 'Hide'.

X button
Using the X button, you can use some actions as follows:

Tap: really close
Tap&Hold: show context menu
Drag: some gestures (To minimize, drag toward down. To show Today, drag toward left.)

Program Launcher
Using key or tap, You can launch some applications, functions and contacts(phone call or e-mail).

Key operation
To shift the Key operation mode, double-execute WkTask.exe or WkTaskCmd.exe(recommended because of smaller size). Some start options are available too.

Brightness/Volume controller
You can control them in real time with key or tap.

Other functions rotation, suspend, reboot, network connection, etc.

Preferences
To customize, it has a great deal of parameters. Enjoy your self!

FAQ

A. To move and resize it, tap&drag the edge or adjust values in Preference->General1->Offsets.

Q. I cannot see any directories except "My Documents" to configure the skins and launcher.

Q. I would like to translate WkTASK to my native language. / The translation is a bit off.
A. Thank you for your help. I will create a MUI file from your mapping table and upload to this site. Please send me the table which format is as follows:

Hey,

Great software. Two things though. First, when activated by vertical drag the launcher shows but hides immediately after lifting the stylus to tap an application. Second, is there a way to adjust the hight of the task bar? It leaves a few pixels from the top and bottom and when I click the start menu white shadow shows behind the bar.

Thanks,

dEM

i've been using WkTask for about a week.

If i use the launcher it stays ther so i can tap as many boxes as i want. Its not a feature i use though so have not loaded any apps into it.

dont think you can resize the task bar, but that said i have not noticed any white lines. (apart fromthe battary life indicator cross the top)

In my Taskbar I have ActiveSync listed and one other executable which I would like to hide because if they are active all the time, there isn't much point in having them displayed (when I terminate both of them, they come straight back).

What is the path to disable AS from the taskmanager as it does not show up when I look for it from within WkTask?

Also, I presume the executable is TF3D as when I terminate that, TF3D closes and restarts. Anyone know how to hide that executable if it TF3D?

Anyone know how to hide that executable if it TF3D?Hold your stylus on the app you want to hide and after a second a menu pops up where you can choose to always hide it. There is an option in the preferences 1st page to 'always show' so that must be switched off as well.

The TF3D app is named 'Start', repeat the above for it too.

Holding the stylus on the close button also beings up a menu which includes the option of hiding.

I use standard windows lock with password and wktask. How to hide the two icons, which are showed on taskbar when device is locked? First has standard application icon and title Password, second has icon of white cross on red background and no title.

this is a great app! so old and yet still compatible with so many software until now. been using it with MS3.5 and S2U2 etc and no conflicts. also love that you can actually skin the buttons.

too bad it's no longer being actively updated. is there any similar app which is more current?

I am so sad that I can not use wktask on 6.5........... a few minutes after intall i renders the status bar unusable. This includes even a Start hard button. Is there a fix? Is there another task manager that works with 6.5?

WKTask is is the best app in windows mobile!

You have to add "\windows\shell32.exe" to the list of excluded programs (not close with x button). This solved all issues with 6.5 for me. Used wktask with many different 6.5 and 6.5.1 builds for many weeks without a single problem.

You have to exclude the Start Menu to WkTask to get it to work with WM6.5.

Just 1 sec with Google... (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509160)

Yes it will. But you need to exclude "\windows\shell32.exe" so the Start Menu won't get stuck.

Just open options of WkTask. There should be a tab exclusion or something similar. There you can search for the file or manual add the line ;)

Hi

Just discover this app.
Nice, small and useful.
Great job

But not fully compatible with 6.5.1 rom :
- no way to put it transparent (not a big problem, set the bar to black)
- The top status bar (the one with big icon , that appears and disappears) didn't work anymore.

Any change to get an update for this ?

thanks a lot

The first program I install on my PPC after a Hard Reset is Wktask manager. Due to it's reported incompatibility with WM6.5, I was afraid to install WM 6.5 ROM's. Now that you have pointed a way out I'll give these new ROM's a try. Thanks.

For almost all WM versions I recommend xTask (stopped development, but works flawlessly)

http://j.imagehost.org/0783/BattClock_bar.png

(xTask and BattClock in energy ROM 2191x build)

xTask has a lot of features; the icons in the top bar, are a feature of xHook (a part of xTask)

I tried xTask, however it was very buggy and would randomly freeze on my Touch Pro 2 with unmodified Sprint WM6.5 ROM.

I just found an iteresting - if rather disappointing - thing about wKtask, too... I was curious to know why my battery seemed to drain a tad faster, so I downloaded and ran acbTaskMan.

Well, with WKtask not running, my battery use would peak about 200 mAh when programs were running, then once I ended them and let the phone sit still it would drop to 54 mAh just before the screen goes blank.

When I start wKtask, it never drops below 150-170 mAh even if I kill wktask process in TaskMgr !!! No matter how long I wait. I can only guess that wktask creates some sort of "leak" in one of the system processes which remains even if wktask itself is killed.

So, I stopped using it. The battery life wasn't affected that badly, but there are other solutions that don't create this issue. Right now I am using a Titanium JMLLaunch plugin that pretty much mimics wKtask launcher, and enabled Running tasks in QuickMenu. If I switch back to Sense, I will have to find a different solution...

This is the reason why I don't use WkTask anymore either. It was a part of my ROM but now I have to settle with the default HTC TaskManager. Such a shame. Really liked WkTask.
