Tried to use the phone as a modem. follow all the instructions in the manual. The computer got a dynamic ip 192.168.0.102 from the ISP with netmask 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.0.1, but could not access internet. Ping 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.102 sucessful, but ping to any other places failed. Tried ping google.com and ping 64.233.187.99, same thing. any ideas? Thanks

If you're connected to an ISP, you shouldn't be getting a 192.168 address; those are private address spaces. Sounds like you're getting an address from somewhere else (maybe you have your own router/dsl/cablemodem with DHCP and the computer is connected to it?).

that computer has no physical connection at all. RJ45 is unplugged, wireless is turned off. the only connection is the USB. If I fire up a dos command prompt and type "ipconfig" there, I can see the ip is acquired from my isp, coz the hostname is set to xxx.myisp.net. I agree with you that 192.168.0.102 does sound fishy from a big ISP, but I guess other things suggest that ISP operate that way in my case...

you should nat have to change any settings on your PC or on your PPc to be able to use Internet Sharing all you should have to do is run I.S on your PPC select T-mo data and hit connect and plug it in to you PC and your PC should detect it and automatically obtain the correct configurations .................................................. . if you are using th 5.99 work around for t-mo it wont work you will have to get the total internet to use it, and the good thing is they dropped the price back down to $20 ................ well thats still too expensive

no, I try to use the dial-up service provided by my ISP (verizon), meaning I just want to use Wing as a modem only. Is that possible? Maybe I overlooked something here?

Just get the Internet Sharing app. It will do it all for you.
