Yes you can put any of the ROMs you'd like on your phone. If the pc-based installer doesn't work, you can extract the ROM file from the installer, rename it to cheeimg.nbh, put it on your miniSD card, hold the PTT/Windows Media button and press the reset button, and it will install that way.

Good question. I haven't had a single ROM isntalled for more than a few days, so I can't really say which is more stable long-term. From various comments in the forum, the Aussie release seems to be a favorite.

Really the only difference between all of them is radios and the stuff installed from extended ROM (misc carrier customizations, and in some a newer version of WL Mobile). When I have some time later I will upload the extracted ext ROMs to the ftp so folks can take a look at what each of the carriers does for their release.

BTW, I know this is off-topic and whatnot, but does anyone else think the new Radiohead is pretty damn awesome? I sense a big off-topic whack coming from Pof..lol

Sigh. Yes you can. Extract the ROM from one of the updaters using winrar and flash it using the SD card method.

I'm also a Swisscom user and I use a Treo with the ATT ROM... no problem at all... just a couple of icons with specific programs you cannot use, but who cares...

I have relied on the Aussie version as being the most stable when the initial ROMs went out. I think at this stage, with them now being published by PALM, they would all be of the same stability - assuming you hack the extendedROM and rid yourself of the carrier specific stuff.

come on with "extraction" you mean that I should just decompress the compressed original file?? If that is meant, then sorry for such stupid question.

2.23 is more stable than the rest and no carrier crap whatsoever. I've been using it for the last two week and so far, no hiccups nor bug for me.:D

I think that this is THE FIRST Treo750's AKU0.7.0 ROM.:D

Features:

Replaced MSXIPKERNEL/Almost all modules from AKU0.7.0 ROM.
IE Slow Scrolling Bug Fixed
NOT replaced OEM packages(i.e. Messaging, PorkPie service)
RUU_signed.nbh has only OS part. It does'nt have Radio/ExtROM.

Hi Chaimd - I am very intrigued by this ROM. Really appreciate your hard work icreating this custom build. I am new to using custom ROM's and was wondering if you could provide some additional information as to what has changed with this ROM? For instance, what is included with AKU 0.7.0? Does it solve the issue with the backlight preventing the phone from locking?

I can see that the OS build number is much higher than the one most of us have been running with AND I like the fact that the ROM does not include a radio so I can install any other ROM (to get the radio of my choice and then overwrite the OS with this new version).

If I wanted to also install the latest RWE radio would you be able to provide an installer for that as well?

Just trying to understand a little better exactly what we have here . . .

Hi Manfly - Good to know its working well for you. Aside from better performance, have you noticed any other major changes? Also, could you provide a brief step by step overview of how you flashed this ROM? I downloaded the Kaiser RUU utility but I'm not quite sure how to use it?

Hi Chaimd - I am very intrigued by this ROM. Really appreciate your hard work icreating this custom build. I am new to using custom ROM's and was wondering if you could provide some additional information as to what has changed with this ROM? For instance, what is included with AKU 0.7.0? Does it solve the issue with the backlight preventing the phone from locking?

I can see that the OS build number is much higher than the one most of us have been running with AND I like the fact that the ROM does not include a radio so I can install any other ROM (to get the radio of my choice and then overwrite the OS with this new version).

If I wanted to also install the latest RWE radio would you be able to provide an installer for that as well?

Just trying to understand a little better exactly what we have here . . .

Before writing this ROM, I recommend you write some official ROM, that has your favorite Radio CODE & ExtendedROM. Then, you can write this ROM, using KaiserCustumRUU or miniSD(rename to CHEEIMG.nbh).

I think that this is THE FIRST Treo750's AKU0.7.0 ROM.:D

Replaced MSXIPKERNEL/Almost all modules from AKU0.7.0 ROM.
IE Slow Scrolling Bug Fixed
NOT replaced OEM packages(i.e. Messaging, PorkPie service)
RUU_signed.nbh has only OS part. It does'nt have Radio/ExtROM.

I will soon upgrade to this new release (as time permits in the next few days) and will most likely use the simple miniSD method to do it - thanks for letting me know that would work. I unlocked my 750 a short time ago so that is not an issue at all :)! Thanks also for posting the new radio (1.54.00.00), one question I had was whether this radio is "signed" for the 750. If I recall correctly, I think it was Manfly who accidentally forced an unsigned radio (from a different device) and is now stuck with it? Which is your Raido version? I'm using Radio 1.54.00.00 with Cooked ROM. And the maximum download speed is over 1M bps without any registry hack, in Tokyo. I've tested Radio 1.54.00.00 and 1.54.07.00.

Haven't had much time until today to mess around fully with Chaimd's AKU 0.7.0 on top of the ROW cooked ROM. Has anyone else had this problem?

When I go to configure the "VCR" buttons (in the Voicemail speed dial), nothing appears on the screen. tapping where the checkboxes/text entry points are enables them, however, nothing is saved when you tap "Ok". (e.g. no voicemail VCR buttons).

Any ideas?

Also, when you edit the Voicemail speed dial, selecting the "Advanced" tab causes Activesync to pop up, and the phone to crash. WM6 freezes up, and only a soft-reset will let you do anything.

I can confirm that this new build is faster than earlier builds I have tested and, overall appears to be very stable - have had installed for around 24 hours. I have tested my device to re-create the "backlight" bug with this version and I have been unable to produce the error so I believe that at least this issue may be resolved with the new version! I have noticed a new issue which is that the phone (display) will "wake up" when Active Sync kicks in and I do not think this was happening with the earlier builds.

I should also add that I am using radio 1.52.30.00 from the 3AUS build AND I am now using the cappackage.pxp and carrierdb.pxp from the Palm released ROW 2.23 build. With this setup I am seeing all 4 bands listed on ATT. I am debating whether I should upgrade to the 1.54.00.00 radio Chaimd posted because I don't know if this will reduce my available bands to only 2 as happened when I installed the 2.23 ROW build previously. Someone had posted their theory that the odd numbered radios support different bands than the even numbered radios . . .

My phone just hangs when I try for the advanced tab - clicking the "cancel" button gets me out of it. I am not sure where to find the "VCR" style buttons to test - I don't use these normally. I wonder, could this be impacted by the radio in use?

I've got 1.54.07.00 on my Treo...(was one who flashed Hermes radio code)..only have the "wrong" bands.

All I can say is that Chaimd's rom is great..but it would be even better if I could get into the "advanced" tab.

At the moment, im using chaimd AKU 0.7.0 ROM on top of the Original 2.23 ROM and i'm also experiencing this advanced tab bug. Other than that, everyting seems fine. A lot faster and stable than the 2.18 VFE, VFU(Official Vodafone Upgrade) and 3AU (Vanilla) ROM's. No problems with call, messaging, SMS, emails and even with the softwares that i've installed(Listed). I'm in UK and on Vodafone Network. Oh! I also had to re-install the HSDPA hack coz all of the ROM's above maxed at 278 Kbit/sec on my Vodafone branded treo:( (Unlocked)

I know HyperCore Kitchen. It's a great tool, but you must edit some config files and batch files.

You said you have a software from Mobilkom Austria, if it's a zip file, use winrar to unzip it and you'll see the desktop updater. If it's not on a zip file then, that means it's already the updater. Just double click on it and follow the instruction until it says finished. your phone is now updated.:D

I did create Vanilla Treo ROM Based on 2.23 ROW. using Hypercore with edited "Settings.txt"
mods:
- Removed Windows Update
- Removed Wired Car kit
- Removed PDF Viewer
- Removed Quick Tour
- Removed The Extended-Rom (Free up 9 Megs)
Put some Apps and messing up with "initflash.txt" and "option.xml"
Trying to remove the Windows Live Module... but I couldn't find it.

Right Now.. I'm just too afraid to flash it on my device..
Just waiting one day i got enough nerve..

Yes, Treo is very sensitive at flashing radio.
And you will know that Hard-SPL is very robust, except radio flashing.:)

You can recover Treo in almost all situation with;
do 'task 2a' command in bootloader
flash official ROMI broke XIP, OS, ExtROM and maybe partition table of my Treo, many times. I met that I coudn't complete flash ROM, stopped in flashing:eek:
But I have recovered my Treo every time.

I feel that Hard-SPL is really hard.

The empty folder you downloaded is not actually empty. Use Winrar to unpack it ot Left click on it and extract with Winrar and you will see the desktop updater.:)

Did you use the Format in Windows XP using FAT32? I made the mistake of using the HPUSBFW (HP USB formatter) and I had the same thing, three color bars, and serial at the bottom center. After I formatted it with XP, it worked like a charm :D

Can someone help me? My friend asked me to flash his Treo 750 from WM5 to WM6 (Vodaphone). I use a ROM found on this site. After I formatted the SD card to FAT32 I copied the CHEEIMG.nbh to the SD card. During the update process it failed at MicroP. 1st three (something a can't rem.), bootloader, and GSM displayed O.K.

At the bottum of the screen it displayed in red "UPDATE Terminated..UPDATE FAILED"

I tried the process again with the same result. The Treo 750v currently shows only the 3 color bars.

What can I do?..is there help available or is it time to find a new friend??

After I formatted the SD card to FAT32 I copied the CHEEIMG.nbh to the SD card. During the update process it failed at MicroP. 1st three (something a can't rem.), bootloader, and GSM displayed O.K.

At the bottum of the screen it displayed in red "UPDATE Terminated..UPDATE FAILED"

I tried the process again with the same result. The Treo 750v currently shows only the 3 color bars.

What can I do?..is there help available or is it time to find a new friend??

You can try to download Win mobile 5 os 4 palm treo,then run upgrade from your pc,NOT THE SD CARD,then try to flash it again with ROM u have.plz let me know what happends.I think that the topic for upgrading is sticky in this section

Thanks dubravk0, this may take a day or so to do.My friend only gave me the Treo 750 (had to buy the SD for him) without the synch cable. I'll have to hit him up for it.

Originally I flashed this phone for him to get it from German to English (WM5). Everything went as planned. Apparently somewhere along the line afterwards he drop it in some water. Everything seem to be OK with it except from time to time a "clicking" sound like a stuck key would occur. Physically I checked each key (found nothing).

All else being equal, I thought flashing it to WM6 would also clear up this problem....(I guess that's what I get for thinking).

Nice to know it ain't bricked (yet?)...makes sleeping easier until I get his synch cable. I'll let you know..

I know most of you long tome Treo pilots may find this dumb, but please indulge me.
I have a 750v unlocked when I switch on it say's Palm etc, no branding for the original Vodaphone.
I got it new and unused and unlocked.
So here is the question, I have read a bit on the web about what you get with WM6, and I do not think it is much if any improvement on WM5, or am I missing something.
My Treo works faultlessly and I contacted Palm Australia who said I should upgrade using the Vodaphone WM6.? ( not the unlocked WM6.
What I dont need or want is a heap of advertising because presently I am on Optus and shortly will move to Telstra.
So what am I missing???

I actually am using the SD card method. :-) The WM6 installation software itself requires that the phone be plugged in, or it wont proceed with install. Try it.

According to post #5 I tried the pc-based updater, but that didnt work. I am now in the process of the sd-micro updater, but am curious as to how big is the ROM supposed to be since I have a file called "CHEEIMG_FW.nbh" which is 84,339KB and a file called "CHEEIMG.nbh" which is only 258KB. Any info would be nice.

Sorry, I really don't know. I can only assume that Palm was given a 12 month period from Microsoft permitting them to offer the download to users. Once it expired, they probably had to withdraw it.

Your only hope would be that some other user will share it with you if they kept a copy, but you'd probably need to find the specific country/language/operator version for your device.

I prefer update via cabel and KaiserCustomRUU / with card is sometimes problem. Also you need SD, SDHC dont work.
