Updated - NOW IDIOT FRIENDLY
Here is the process to revert back to the AT&T or HTC ROM and bootloader after flashing a non-OEM ROM on your device.
Note: If you had to use jockyw2001's "White Screen" fix in order to install HardSPL you will need to use it to revert back... below where the steps reference SSPL-KAIS.exe replace them with jockyw2001's JumpSPL1.56-SSPL.exe. You can obtain the files from his thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061).
ok... Assuming you're starting with a Kaiser/Tilt with HardSPL and the ROM that didn't come installed on it:
General Steps
1. Reflash the OEM ROM
2. Extract the OEM ROM with NBHextract.exe
3. create a new NBH using htcrt using only the 01_SPL.nb
4. Put your NBH file containing only the SPL into an empty directory on your PC
5. Copy KaiserCustomRUU.exe to that folder
6. Copy the SSPL-KAIS.exe to your phone (if you had to use the White Screen fix you'll need jwocky2001's JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe)
7. Run SSPL-KAIS.exe from your phone (or JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe, depending on your situation)
8. Flash your "custom" NBH containing only the SPL.nb by running KaiserCustomRUU.exe
9. After it's finished verify your SPL by holding down power and camera buttons while doing a soft reset.
10. Send your phone back to HTC or ATT
pretty sure I've covered it all... Let me know your results. I've done this successfully following the steps above.
Idiot's Guide to Restoring your phone to OEM Status
1. Get the original ROM for your device (HTC (http://rapidshare.com/files/57816419/RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88. 07_1.27.12.11_Ship.rar.html) or ATT (http://rapidshare.com/files/55298724/RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_.exe))
2. Flash the OEM ROM to your device (this will restore your OS but not the bootloader, we'll get to that below)
3. Copy the ROM to a temp folder and extract it, I use WinRAR, just right click on it and select "Extract to Here"
4. After extracting the ROM you should have a several files here, one called RUU_signed.nbh is the one we're looking for. Copy this file to another empty temp directory.
5. Download NBHExtract (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=289830) and follow the instructions in the link to extract the NB files from the ROM (essentially just copy nbhextract.exe to the temp folder where the nbh file is and run it from a command line - like so C:\temp\kitchen\>nbhextract.exe RUU_signed.nbh
6. You should now have several .nb files in that directory, the one we're interested in is the 01_SPL.nb.
7. Now you have to create an NBH file with just the SPL, to do that download htcrt (HTC Rom Tool) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311909).
8. Run the tool and under the ROM Builder tab select Kaiser, the rest on the left side doesn't matter right now. On the right side of this window click the "..." next to SPL and select the 01_SPL.nb you extracted from the OEM ROM. This should be the only thing added under Firmware Contents. Click Build ROM.
9. You should now have a NBH file that is relatively small (about 258K), copy this NBH file to a new empty directory
10. Download pof's KaiserCustomRUU.exe (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334890) and put this in the same directory used in step 9. Don't run this yet.
11. Download pof's SSPL-KAIS.exe (http://rapidshare.com/files/92101137/SSPL-KAIS.exe) and copy it to your phone
12. Run SSPL.KAIS.exe from your phone (make sure you do this on your actual device and not your PC)
13. When you have the bootloader screen on your phone run KaiserCustomRUU.exe from the folder used in step 10.
14. After it's finished verify your SPL by holding down power and camera buttons while doing a soft reset.
15. Send your device back for warranty repair or replacement.
For ATT users ONLY
Steps 3-10 (Idiot's Guide) just made easier... download this file, unrar ... resume at step 11 if you download and use this file (you only need one of these, pick the one that matches the stock ROM you installed)

FYI... this is all at your own risk, I don't guarantee my files are working, though the ATT one worked for me, your best bet is to make your own. I also take no responsibility for any damage you do to your phone following these steps or using these tools... Best of luck to you.

Nice sirsycho...when get my Tilt (hopefully Wednesday) I will try this out. If it works someone should definitely sticky this because I have an ominous feeling I will not be the only person concerned about this.
Thanks for the even more thorough guide sirsyco and to the mod that stickied this

SSPL-KAIS.exe doesn't seem to be available anymore. Is there any other way to revert back? I need to return the Tilt I paid $549.00 for because I just bought one on premier for $299.00.

UPDATE:
nevermind... I'm sure pof has his reasons for removing it but it worked for me for this use. CrackedConsole still has his mirror up but pof may ask him to remove it, so get it while you can... again it has known bugs with full ROMs but works fine with bootloaders and splash screens... as always, use at your own risk.

How are you getting it for $299 on premier? are you due for an upgrade? because on my premier its costing 399 after discounts...(or are you re-upping your contract?)

Confirmed... just checked my Premier site and it's listed for $299.99 if you add the PDA Unlimited Data plan. They have the $25 online discount on top of that as well... so $275 if you do it online.

It has to be the PDA Personal Max data plan to get the discount. The discount is for "subscribing to any voice plan and a data plan with a value of $39 or more", and apparently they mean the pre-discount price. The discount varies per phone - for example the 8525 and Treo 750 end up being $99 after it's applied.

So what's the risk of sending it back just with the AT&T ROM reflashed, or in other words just performing step 1?
I understand they can tell that we tampered with the device by unlocking it's CID, but has anyone tried sending it back this way yet? Do they really meticulously check the device before they send you a replacement or give you back your money? Won't they be able to tell only after it's miles away in Taiwan?
Don't get me wrong, I'll most likely go through all the steps listed by sirsycho here (hopefully it won't take long), but I'm just curious to know if AT&T and HTC can track you down after they find out and all is said and done...
I don't work for AT&T, or know of anyone that does, obviously.
BTW: Mine came out to $349, *before* the $50 mail-in-rebate when purchased from the store.

Hey Double-D...
I'm honestly not sure if they'd care too much, it's not like you've done anything that can't be undone (as the steps in my first post illustrate), but if they decided to be dicks about it, they could refuse your refund based on your tampering. It really doesn't take very long to just put it back, it's very quick. I am updating my first post with a link to the ATT_SPL repackaged. You still need to get pof's Kaiser SSPL and run it from your device.

Is that a return or an exchange? I'm just being curious since I forked out 550 (+tax) for the Tilt. I like the phone. But that is out of my range. Oh well, guess I'll just wait until 29 days and return it. My first ppc ever (I've been a Symbian freak). So far, I like it. My university contracts only allow me to get it for 399 (+tax), still out of the price range for a broke student like me.
Btw, I have HTC Rom on the Tilt. It feels better and faster than AT&T crap (pardon my language).

Exchange, actually. They gave me another w/o a problem.
This phone is worth the $550 and then some if you can use all it's features. You may not be able to use it to it's fullest at first (especially coming from Symbian - which still isn't as bad as others), but just wait until you start using DirectPush and/or Outlook sync, plus all the other applications you can install on it and with more to come everyday, you'll never want to leave the Windows Mobile platform again... I know I don't.

If you're ordering the PDA Connect plan , AT&T also has another plan called the PDA Personal plan. It's exactly the same as PDA Connect, but adds 1500 Text Msgs per month at the same price. ($39.99 US)
For some reason AT&T doesn't have it listed on their website, but it exists if you ask for it. So place your order adding the PDA Connect plan (to get the additional $100 off), and when you activate your phone - ask them to change you to PDA Personal plan.

yeah for those trying to purchase via Premier just use the online live help or call them thru the Premier phone #. always look at the specials to the left and if it doesnt add up in your basket call 'em.
also even though you think you might not be up for an upgrade try anyways, twice i have not been eligible, and for some reason Premier will allow you to upgrade-and no i wasnt 3 months from my contract end.
this is how i got mine...just under $300

Going through the guide, it says to run the SSPL-KAIS.exe from the phone, and when it is at the boot loader (RGB + white bars) run KaiserCustomRUU.exe, which starts and explicitly says that the phone needs to be connected with an activesync connection. Why did I have to run that app and get to the bootloader?
If I run KaiserCustomRUU.exe with an activesync connection established (it erorrs out if I am already at the bootloader), then restart into the bootloader, it is definitely not right.

EDIT: nevermind, I think I got it. I forgot the 'unplug and replug usb cable' step that you perform when at the jumpspl screen.

Now it reads:
KAIS1*0
SPL-1.56.0000

That is INDEED the case for a full ROM, but we are just flashing the SPL. SSPL will not work for a full ROM, if you want to flash a full ROM you must first install HARD-SPL. These instructions are only for reverting back to a "stock" SPL not the ROM. To be absolutely CLEAR, if you want to flash the SPL you MUST use SSPL-KAIS.exe... if you want to flash the OS or full ROM, you MUST use Hard-SPL.
Sorry noob question. When you follow the steps in the first post does this re-lock the sim and cid on the phone? If so what particular step does this?
There is no free way to SIM unlock the Tilt/Tytn II without contacting your wireless provider. As for the CID lock, it will, in effect, relock the CID on your phone (for lack of a better, more detailed, explanation).

Thanks for the quick reply. It turns out it was a problem with the temp file that was created when I tried to download it that then also kept me from downloading it again. I downloaded from crackedconsole using bittorent with no problems. Thanks for putting these instructions together.

This thread is for reverting to a stock SPL... you need to first HARD-SPL your device if you want to load other ROMs. In other words, your device is still CID locked.

This means that i just HARD-SPL and then i can load any ROM file, stock or other. Then i get back to the orig spl following the steps on Pg. 1.
Lets see. Starting now.
Just so we're clear... unless you're just playing/testing there is absolutely no reason to flash the stock SPL back to your phone UNLESS you are going to return it back to ATT/HTC/(Insert your carrier here).
It is best (and safest) to leave HardSPL on your phone when you are playing with Cooked ROMs (or even you own carrier's ROMs).
Cheers.

Hi guys,
I need some help to revert my Kaiser to v1615.
I got the v1615 rom in nbh format, but don't figure out out to flash it, so i'm stuck at first step.
I'm a HTC newbie, so i understand my issue is probably trivial, but i can't figure out which tool to use...
Thx for your help

Well i figured it out
Just use the CUstomRUU tool and put the nbh file in the same folder, and you're done

are you following my guide??? If so, I'm not sure which ROM you're working with but based on your previous posts it sounds like you already have the NBH file. If you're dealing with a cooked ROM I doubt you're going to have the OS.nb file within that NBH but I could be wrong.
In your case, since you already have an NBH, substitute RUU_signed.NBH with whatever your NBH file is named.
If I'm totally off, give me much much more detail next time you post... and better yet, if no one has posted after you, edit your previous posts instead of littering my thread.
Thanks!!

right... this is because it's a cooked ROM, you can only get SPL from a carrier or manufacturer released ROM. Note I said released, this does not include ROMs which were rebuilt from dumps. If you want to flash the SPL the only two I know of are the HTC and ATT ones.
Good Luck.

At step 12 I ran SSPL.KAIS.exe and the bootloader screen came up like it should. But after that I"m not sure if I have an activesync connection or not when it comes time to run KaiserCustomRUU. I unplugged and replugged the USB cord but the AS icon never went green. According to activesync the phone isn't connected but it does say USB accross the bootloader screen. I continued anyway on to step 13 anyway and ran the KaiserCustomRUU and it went thru the motions like it was properly installed. But now that it's finished I can't get into the bootloader mode to see if it worked. I tried about a dozen times by holding the power and camera buttons while doing a soft reset but all it does it the soft reset..no bootloader. Any ideas?

I'm confused... are you saying you installed 1.60 or are TRYING to install 1.60? If the ROM wasn't supplied by HTC (for AT&T) or by AT&T themselves, you're warranty will be void.
Of course you can always CID unlock your phone (as you allude to) with HardSPL, but that will also void your warranty. Doing anything with "unsupported" ROMs puts you in jeopardy of breaking your phone which is why every cook here has the boiler plate disclaimer about your doing all of this at your own risk.
All of that being said, if you do decide to muck with your phone with these cooked ROMs and HardSPL you can use the process outlined in the first post of this tread to put you back to the AT&T ROM and SPL.

For you first concern... you do not want an ActiveSync connection after running SSPL on your phone, just unplug and re-plug. ActiveSync should not reconnect (and this is by design).
As for your second question, if your phone boots you have a bootloader, so either you don't have the camera button pressed enough or something else is wrong.
Just something else to try, you don't actually have to do the reset on your phone to get to the BL. Turn off your phone, either by taking out the battery or by holding the power button and selecting 'yes' when prompted. When the phone is off, press and firmly hold the camera button (keep it held). Now while keeping the camera button FIRMLY pressed, press and HOLD the power button. The phone should power on and go directly to the boot loader.

I wasn't very clear on this. I had to exchange my phone. The problem is I put the 1.60 rom over the 1.57 rom witch isn't yet released or supported. This changed the SPL from 1.08 to 1.93 or something of that nature. Now I can't downgrade to 1.57 rom to return the phone. It says the update is unsoprted... Im getting the feeling that I have to CID unlock it now. I was hoping there was a way around this....

Yes, confirmed working, had to HardSPL it in order to take the previous ROM, then had to restore the OEM SPL as explained in post 1, then applied the older ROM, still came up with invalid vendor ID, so something is still wrong... [edit] device reports no service... Must be something to do with the RBL not dropping back down, corrected with a hard reset...
The bootloader is reporting the device is "Kaiser1*0"...
At least I am back to the previous ROM and can run MS Voice Command, the RIL in the 1.60 ROM produced issues when trying to execute from BT headset...
All the use of the USB has caused there to be a problem with the mini USB port (cable not seating correctly), have returned to at&t as this unit was originally an open box, so I have no idea what took place with this unit before I got it...

Based on previous experience with the Wizard (8125), Hermes (8525), and now the Kaiser (8925), yep, been w/ at&t for a while and still perplexed as to why at&t buggers their ROMS, my guess is POF has only been able to deconstuct the SPL as for now, so he created the bootstrap that will allow write to the device via the SSPL-Kaiser.exe bootstrap... I don't think that your outa luck in the long term, but I think there is some issue regarding dumping or pulling apart the systems IPL, and experience might say that the carriers along with HTC, might not like POF pulling this stuff apart and actually might be a bit embarrassed as to discovery of the olipro IPL on previous devices that included anti-brick utilities. Too bad they take it the wrong way and decide against building the idea into their stuff... :(
For now I think you might be outa luck regarding w/r to your device IPL/SPL without the presence of the bootstrap, which unfortunately is only at the SPL level, and for now requires another machine to execute code for w/r via the USB port...
[edit]Furthermore, it is my opinion that POF has displayed characteristics in programming and ethics that HTC should grant him his own .cer as an asset to the community in favor of the end user. No reason someone should have to hack it to fix it with only limited prospective of just the hex, this has been one of my issues with developers since the start of the Win32 side of network engineering.

I don't believe there is a way to flash the SPL from the card. There is a method to flash a ROM but if you've done the HardSPL it will bypass the SPL portion of a complete ROM. I think you might be outta luck. You might try copying the NBH over to your SD (following the instructions available in another post... search is your best bet). But instead of doing the hard reset you would have to run the SSPL-KAIS.exe and hope it starts the flashing process.
Good Luck.

Correct, if you flash the original ATT ROM it will flash your radio and your OS. Follow the instructions to get the SPL back to ATT OEM status. After you finish the SPL, the bootloader shouldn't mention anything about HardSPL, if it does you did something wrong. I can't remember the exact syntax of what it does say...

Well, I don't have an HTC version of the phone, I assume that is what you have and what your friend has. If so then it sounds like there's a new SPL in the wild (no big surprise). Until we get an official release of that full ROM (including OS, Radio and SPL) then you can't get back to the version your friend has. If it's coming out on new phones though chances are it should be released eventually.

There has to be some kinda glitch with this HardSPL thing or somethin because, I just reverted back to my old OEM ATT Rom & SPL, and now when I tried re-flashing the OEM Rom, I get an "Invalid Vendor ID" error! I've already tried reflashing the oem spl twice to make sure I did it correctly and still no progress! Now its seems the only way I can flash a rom is if I have HardSPL installed. Also in bootloader the information displayed is:
KAIS1*0

a solution anyone?

Sounds like you're running the stock ATT ROM and SPL (SPL info you posted matches the version in the "shipped" ROM).
And the only way you're going to be able to flash other ROMs is to use HardSPL, but I think you know this, so again I guess I'm not clear on what the problem is.

OK this what ive done. I flashed hardspl and a cooked rom onto my device. The rom didnt work well enough for me so I decided to go back stock. I read your guide thoroughly and proceeded with the steps mentioned to reflash the OEM spl. After successfully flsahing the spl from the att stock rom, I attempted to reflash my phone again with the stock rom(not using the customRUU) and in the process, I now get a "Invalid Vendor ID" from the stock ATT kasier rom, and this is file im trying to flash from "RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_.exe"

ok... you need to reflash HardSPL.
After that flash the FULL ATT ROM (should be 72MB or so). Boot the phone... let it customize and all that stuff just to make sure you get all the ATT stuff.
Now flash the stock ATT SPL... this has to be done AFTER you flash the ATT ROM and you must use the SSPL-KAIS.exe for it to work.
For good measure, hard reset the device by holding both soft keys and doing a soft reset, and follow the onscreen prompts.

Yes, I made that observation earlier in the thread.
1 Flash HardSPL
2 Flash AT&T ROM 1.57
3 Replace SPL from 1.57 ROM using SSPL-KAIS.exe
4 Hard Reset
5 Flash AT&T ROM produces 'invalid vendor ID'
Since the SPL is from the 1.57 ROM, I believe the vendor ID is stored in IPL, and flashing the latest ROM modifies or writes a newer IPL and/or AT&T has modified their vendor ID with the Cingular / AT&T merger.
I have looked through the entire kaiser forums in search of version information regarding the IPL, and have come up empty handed, beyond that, the multi color screen in bootloader mode of the kaiser does not show any presense of an IPL, but I know it is there.

Yes, this is true, but the Tilt I got was out of an open box with additional ringtones that survived a hard reset when I got it, so, ya just don't know what your getting when you go into a store, you can't 'expect' to get a device that hasn't been tampered with...
It is my belief that the official release of the Tilt ROM will not produce the invalid vendor message...
Beyond that, it would be better for them if they release a radio that is better than the one in the current release, they would probably save themselves a lot of headache flashing devices to put them back out on the shelf...

Most files available on this site are not official, though current official release files for pretty much all devices are tucked away and linked to somewhere. What you flashed is a leaked rom provided to carriers for testing and debugging purposes, granted the site should have a cookie based opening page disclaimer noting that you take full responsibility for anything you do to your device, on the other hand, I question how many folks have been helped here by a bad flash of an official rom in effect preventing a warranty return, beyond that, the carriers can refer here at any time for a list of bugs in their test roms, in all, I think it is a wash for the carriers in terms of warranty exchange costs, because they can't get accurate results from a heavily controlled test group, they need to know how the ROM will perform in the wild with installed app diversity and minor hardware revisions before they can agree with HTC on a final release, what makes the file official is when you see the updated information on HTC's download page. Now you should understand why it is important to read, read some more, and then some before you attempt the procedures on the site, this is intended to provide you the knowledge to understand what you are doing and prevent you from bricking a device by your own err.

Just for confirmation, can someone tell me if they have successfully flash this "RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_.exe" ATT tilt stock rom without hardspl?
I just got a friend's stock (BONE stock) Tilt. First thing I tried to do was flash the "RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_.exe". This failed saying it was not compatible with this phone. I then tried to flash the "unreleased Tilt ROM AKU v.0.4.4" and it is currently flashing fine on the unmodified device (no SPL or ROM changes, prior to this).
So based on this logic, if you remove HardSPL and revert back to the ATT SPL I have linked and you can then flash the NEW Tilt ROM then it could be reasonably assumed that the device's SPL is back to stock.
Again, because you can't flash the "original" ATT ROM after reverting back to the Stock SPL does not mean it's evidence of tampering.
I'll do some more testing before and after I flash HardSPL on this guy to confirm.
Cheers!

OK after flashing v0.4.4 the SPL reports:
KAIS1*0
SPL-1.93.0000
CPLD-8
I tried flashing back to the "released" ATT ROM and get the same "Invalid Vendor ID" error...
Flashing HardSPL now and will try reverting back to the stock SPL and doing the same install of v0.4.4.

Even if you flash back to the 1.57 ROM using HardSPL, and restore SPL included with the 1.57 ROM, when you use the carrier RUU to flash the 1.57 ROM, it will report invalid vendor ID.
Couple possibilities here, either the new RUU updates IPL and/or new vendor id on the AT&T/Cingular merger in IPL, or the vendor ID is stored in SPL and RUU will hexedit upon reading either a valid Cingy or AT&T vendor ID and replace with their new vendor ID, I do not believe they would do the latter, too many ways for things to go wrong with an edit on the fly situation.
Either case, old RUU will not pass the phone after the test ROM has been applied, even if forced back to 1.57 ROM using HardSPL.

Alrighty... Flashed HardSPL then reflashed the ATT SPL. As noted by others, the original ATT ROM fails with "Invalid Vendor ID".
However, I can flash the v0.4.4 ROM... so this seems to match the behavior of an unmodified Tilt. I'd call the method described in my first post as pretty much as good as it gets for making your hacked phone "STOCK" again.

I downloaded this rom listed in the first page: RUU_Tilt_XDA-Live-v1.1_WWE_1.60.502.XDA_No_Radio
But now when I start the camera I only get a black screen. Is there a cab that I can re-install the camera software? This rom is so fast I love it.
Thanks

JasjarMan... I think you posted to the wrong thread. I too love Kyphur's ROMs but I'm not the guy to ask.
However, on your topic, I had that issue once before and just redownloaded and reflashed the ROM and it works perfect. And for the record you want his ROM WITH the Radio ROM, his ROM is based on the AKU v0.4.4 ROM which require the radio be updated with it. The downloaded file should have the filename: "RUU_Tilt_XDA-Live-v1.1_WWE_1.60.502.XDA_With_Radio.exe"
Good Luck!

How are you getting it for $299 on premier? are you due for an upgrade? because on my premier its costing 399 after discounts...(or are you re-upping your contract?)
I just got mine over the Thanksgivings weekend for $149.00 with the $100 rebate ... the premier for me if for the government ...did they expect government employees to be around on the holiday weekend to buy a cell phone!?? and yes the price is back up to where it was before the holiday.

are you trying to flash a Tilt or TYTN II or MDA? If you are trying to flash a tilt, download the AKU v0.4.4, you can extract the downloaded EXE file with WinRAR... do that and you should have a several files including a "ROMUpdateUtility.exe" and an "RUU_signed.nbh" file.
Put your phone in bootloader mode.
Plug in your USB cable.
Run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe and follow the onscreen prompts.
If this doesn't work, please post the following:
Your Phone Model
The text from your SPL screen
What you did to get it stuck at this point.

OK i would go through this whole process if my screen did not go black. It's some type of hardware malfunction and I'm within my 30 days, but I'm wondering when they fix the screen and check the device will it void my warranty and in turn forfeit my refund.
I'm not sure how this process works, Do I have to revert back to att rom and spl before sending my phone back? If so, how can I achieve this without a functional screen?

hmm... well this entire process is kind of predicated on the device being mostly functional. In your case you might be able to do it if you know when and where to press your screen during each of the steps, however you'd need another device and some practice going back and forth to accomplish that. If you're doing AT&T's Exchange by Mail (XBM) you can practice with your new device for a day or two before you ship the broken one back... giving you time to revert back.
Lastly... just a thought... but are you sure the entire screen is dead and not just the backlight? if you hold it under a bright light can you see anything on the screen?
Anyways... good luck, I'm not sure if they'd end up replacing the screen or not... if so probably not in-house at AT&T. It'd probably get shipped to an HTC repair center and they may not care what you did as long as it isn't irreparably hacked (which it shouldn't be if all you did was HardSPL and a new ROM). I'll cross my fingers for you.
Cheers!

Well the screen is not completely black but I figure it died because 80% is black and 20% is white. With an internal crack it seems, and blue and red vertical lines running along the screen. The phone has never been dropped and was in a case on my waist. All of a sudden when I tried to answer a call and checked the screen it was like that.
If it is just a backlight issue can I fix that myself? I want a definitive answer as to whether at&t will void my warranty once they get the screen working, but I cant ask AT&T directly. Just received my new phone and my last resort is your return process. Thanks again for all the help!

I had the same issue as him, and so I tried your method (Extracting it through WinRAR and then running the RomUpdateUtility.exe to update it)
It gave the same error message... It gets to 1% and then the phone resets, and on the computer it says Invalid Vendor ID.
On the bottom of the window, it said "CTa3-KBKV5/67-HUEbc96<-KBKV58670" as the error code I guess.. There wasn't any other useful information on the screen or on the phone.. The phone just resets back to the normal mode... I also tried doing "Clear Storage" through the phone first, but no luck..
BTW this is on an AT&T Tilt... I had the OEM rom, and then I upgraded to the early released AT&T rom with updated radio 1.27.14.09, but something is wrong with the phone so I'm trying to switch back to the old one with 1.27.12.17..

Yah you can't flash the Tilt with the "original/shipping" rom that is currently available on this site without first installing HardSPL. If you are trying to revert to the "original" ROM and Radio, you will first need to install HardSPL and then follow the instructions in my first post to get it back to "stock".

sorry Matrix... I'm not sure if the HTC ROM will install on the TyTN II without first installing HardSPL, but I would tend to think that it should if you have the HTC branded phone (I could be wrong though, the Tilt ROM won't install on the Tilt without HardSPL).
I'm sure you tried this but the only advice I can give is to put your phone in bootloader... connect the USB... try to install the original HTC ROM available in the stickies (and my first post in this thread).

As what was explained to me by ?Glitch, and if I understood correctly, The Att stock rom may not be the official tilt rom, but it is the official stock rom thats on the att tilt, thats why were getting this error code while trying to flash without hardspl. Also when you say that your phone is having problems, would you elaborate a little more? it could be something that a hard reset can fix rather than flashing again! I know it is recommended to do a hard reset right after a flash or you might not experience optimal performance!

The problems I was having is just spotty reception, and wayyy too many dropped calls..
even though the newer radio shoulda helped, I thought maybe it would help to reflash the old rom.. I think I remember someone actually saying that the newer radio was worse than the old..
I'll try the HardSPL method..

I have tried having it connected when I ran the file and not having it connected as well as unpluging it and reconnecting it after I ran the program. It just won't connect.
you say "when you get the jumpspl booloader". Do you mean the mutlicolored screen that comes up after you run SSPL.KAIS.exe from the phone?

No worries... and FYI, you don't want ActiveSync to connect after you run SSPL-Kais... so yes unplug after you get the multi color screen then reconnect... ActiveSync should NOT connect. Then proceed with your SPL install.

I don't have a Kaiser but I'm trying to help my brother revert his Tilt back to OEM. I referred to this thread but we want to make sure we're reading this right. The "ATT users ONLY" section with the file http://rapidshare.com/files/61847668/ATT_SPL.rar.html is replacing steps 3-10.
But in step 13, it referrs you back to a file KaiserCustomRUU.exe from step 10 (When you have the bootloader screen on your phone run KaiserCustomRUU.exe from the folder used in step 10.)
Do you still need to download this file separately or is it included in the download of the ATT_SPL.rar file?

This is assuming you didnt completely brick your phone which, was my situation. also assuming you can still access your start menu:
click start>settings> on the bottom next to Personal tab, select System.
now select Clear Storage(the icon should be a garbage can with files going into it)
I believe it prompts you to give it the okay. I dont remember if it told me i was going to lose all saved applications and contacts, BUT yeah I did lose all that stuff. That was more than fine considering my phone was FUCKED! No apps would open there were errors all over the place and I couldnt get it to flash. Anyway, it hard resets, you see the att screen and it literally goes thru the whole customization setup you went thru when you first turned it on. THATS A GOOD SIGN! haha. it works perfectly.
CONCLUSION: This simple way put my phone right back to its original ATT settings down to the very last piece of crap, lol. BUT i was MOREEE than happy to see it. From there I was able to flash HardSPL(ROM that allows flashing of any other ROM your heart desires)...and the rest is history!

I've done some reading past couple of days and as far as I understood there's only an option to revert back to HTC or AT&T OEM ROM.
Any idea how to get the T-Mobile ROM since I'm expecting the T-Mobile MDA Vario III delivered today and can't wait to play with it? :)

Any idea how to get the T-Mobile ROM since I'm expecting the T-Mobile MDA Vario III delivered today and can't wait to play with it? :)
Thanks,
T.
Unless you know of a released T-Mobile ROM, then no, but if you're just looking to cover your tracks you could find a dumped T-Mo ROM (or make one yourself) restore that and then use the HTC SPL to hide the fact that you installed HardSPL. It probably wouldn't work well for future T-Mo releases but at least it would look stock and you could claim you got it like that.
Good Luck!

Ok no my Q is After we make a Sprite Back Up
Wht if i Loose my Phone, But have saved the Sprite backed up from my Storage card on my PC in a Folder
So if damged or Lose my phone, wil Buy a NEW
If i put my Sprite Backup in a NEW Tilt phone & restore it,
will it make it Just like my OLD phone ?
This question is outside of the scope of this thread and I don't use sprite very much so I can't really answer it for you. But you have the basic idea, as long as you're using the same ROM on the new device as was on the old when you ran the backup it should restore fine on the new one.
Please refer to Sprite's website or find a different thread with specific Sprite thread for any further questions on this topic.
Cheers.

sirsycho,
I just dumped my own ROM into 4 raw files.
Next thing to learn is how to reconstruct and cook dumped rom...
Better late than never :)
Thanks man!

So if I am reading correctly below, does this bring my phone's ROM back to the original state? I don't care about the SPL, but I cannot get Active Sync to direct push through Microsoft Exchange with a Dutty Rom and I am getting no ideas on how to fix this problem on the Dutty Thread and being able to Direct Push email through Active sync makes it possible to pay for my phone data plan through work.
Will this give me phone back working with ATT software and Active sync?
Just so we're clear... unless you're just playing/testing there is absolutely no reason to flash the stock SPL back to your phone UNLESS you are going to return it back to ATT/HTC/(Insert your carrier here).
It is best (and safest) to leave HardSPL on your phone when you are playing with Cooked ROMs (or even you own carrier's ROMs).
Cheers.

yup this should get you back to ATT stock form... however it sounds like you'll probably just want to flash the ATT ROM and not replace HardSPL just yet (unless you're planning on returning it or warranting it).
You didn't really describe your push email issues but if a hard reset doesn't fix it, and it follows you across ROMs (Radio and OS) it might be a hardware issue.

For HTC users ONLY
Steps 3-10 (Idiot's Guide) just made easier... download this file, unrar ... resume at step 11 if you download and use this file
http://rapidshare.com/files/62525188/HTC_SPL.rar.html
What version of the SPL is this?
I'm looking for SPL-1.56.0000 and can't extract this from the OEM ROM as there is not a publicly available distribution of it (T-Mobile UK v1.56.110.4) that I'm aware of.

If I am not sending my phone in for warranty issues but simply wish to revert back to the original ROM I can stop at step 2 right?

So, HUGE suggestion here:
You might consider putting the "shortcuts" higher up on the thread. See, I read through the general steps, and then begin trudging through the "Idiot's Guide." I'm on step 9 and HAPPEN to glance further down... WHAT? Someone made a shortcut for steps 3-10?!? I could've skipped to Step 11! Not only is this frustrating for the "idiot," but then all that work that went into making the shortcut is for naught.
But, the shorcut has a problem too:
So I abandoned the original steps, followed the shortcut, and resumed at step 11. I ran into the same problem as this guy (who nobody ever answered a few pages back):
So far I re-flashed back to the stock radio, then to the stock Tilt ROM, then flashed the "For ATT Users Only" ATT_SPL.rar. Now it's asking me to do something with step 10, which I was told to skip.
My bootloader reads: SPL-1.0.OliPof, so I'm obviously not done yet. What do I do to finish up?
Confused. I'm sure this is an amazing guide, and I'm sorry I got stuck like a noob.

Sorry, I think it is beneficial for people to read the entire thing first and then see (and perhaps use) the shortcuts, this gives them a better idea of the total process and they don't have to rely on my work when they can do it for themselves.

If you downloaded the file then you should see that the KaiserCustomRUU.exe is contained within it... so step 10 is DONE... Did I really make it that hard to understand?

You're right, you're not done. You're close though. You've got your radio and your ROM restored back from the sounds of it, so now all that is left is the SPL....
Resume at step 11... download SSPL-KAIS.exe and copy it to your phone... run it on your phone... then extract and run the KaiserCustomRUU.exe that was included in the RAR you downloaded (the 3-10 shortcut file).

No, it's an extremely well put-together thread! I sincerely appreciate your efforts.
I think I'm definitely smart enough with my Tilt to figure out the discrepency between a shortcut for steps 3-10 and then a later step referring to a step I skipped. In the moment, however, I was in a hurry, and was irritated that I was plowing through steps that I didn't realize that there was a shortcut for! I had to leave, so I just asked the question.
However, if it truly is an "idiot's" guide, you may want to modify the steps to compensate for the 3-10 shortcut - because I wasn't the first person to ask the question. :)
Thanks again - pretty bummed to be returning my SECOND Tilt today... :(
**UPDATE**
Finished up the process. Easy-pleasy - thanks so much!
I know this has been asked twice in this thread before but no conclusive responses yet, so I will try to ask one more time and see if third time is the charm :-)
I have dutty's rom and now my USB port is fried - no active sync or charge - is there any hope of reverting back for me so I can do a warranty exchange?
Thanks - this forum has been most educational...

Is there a way to flash back to a phone without video? My screen cracked, I replaced the screen but the new one isn't working so I'm going to have this replaced under warranty. I'd obviously prefer to flash this back to the OEM ROM and bootloader, but this step makes that difficult:
12. Run SSPL.KAIS.exe from your phone (make sure you do this on your actual device and not your PC)
Any way around this? Thanks.

actually i just had an idea, i can borrow the screen from the new phone long enough to do this, then swap them back.

Nope... you're screwed... You could flash a ROM using the SD method but there is no way to get rid of HardSPL if you:
1) don't have a functioning USB port
OR
2) don't have a functioning OS/Screen

Sounds like you figured out a method that will work for you, I've not been brave enough to pull my tilt apart yet. I think I'll wait til it breaks first ;).

With the right tools, the ATT version comes apart in about 10-15 minutes the first time if you're careful. Now that I've done it once, I can probably have the screen out in under 5. It's 4 screws and 2 connectors. I bought the replacement screen from a forum member here and it came with all the necessary tools (T4 torx driver and a plastic tool to help separate the case from the screen). I have however read that the HTC version is a nightmare to replace the screen on because of the front camera.

I hope this helps someone.
If you're having trouble extracting RUU_signed.nbh from the cingular exe...
Use winrar 3.7 or later to extract RUU_signed.nbh from RUU_Kaiser_CINGULAR_WWE_.exe
I was trying to use winrar 3.1 and could not get it to work.

Does anyone have the O2 XDA Stellar ROM to download?
As much as I want to upgrade I also want a fallback plan for when the phone has to go back.
Thank You

I'm sending back my *third* Tilt today, and used your steps and files for the second time - thanks!
I realize that you want people to understand what they're doing, but I still find the steps a little confusing. Here's my EASY version that I've written down for myself:
1) Install original radio
2) Install original ROM
3) Extract SSPL-KAIS.exe from kaiser-SSPLv1.zip, copy to the phone, run
4) Once the bootloader is showing, disconnect and reconnect the device
5) Extract and run KaiserCustomRUU.exe from ATT_SPL.zip
6) Check by holding down power, camera, and reset button (with stylus):
KAIS1*0
SPL-1.56.0000
CPLD-8
Thanks again.
PS - I think I figured out my hang-up from both last week and today: you offer a file that replaces steps 3-10, so I download it, RUN it, and then move on to step 11. At this point, I'm thinking I'm done with this "replacement" file. Then, in step 13, you reference a file that I needed from step 10, a step I skipped. Now I'm very confused, because I'm "out" of files and don't realize that the 3-10 replacement file IS the file that step 13 refers to. Again, thinking it was a "replacement" for 3-10, I've already run it and disregarded it. Rather, the 3-10 replacement file is just the file that would have been created if I'd followed steps 3-10 point-by-point, and I shouldn't run it until step 13.

So, I have a TYTN II I just picked up yesterday out of Hong Kong. Here are the OEM details on the device:
R 1.27.15.32
G 22.51.88.13H
D 1.82.00.00
Is there any way I can pull this ROM from the device so I can flash back to it at a later date if I have to?
Thanx.

4. After extracting the ROM you should have a several files here, one called RUU_signed.nbh is the one we're looking for. Copy this file to another empty temp directory.
5. Download NBHExtract and follow the instructions in the link to extract the NB files from the ROM (essentially just copy nbhextract.exe to the temp folder where the nbh file is and run it from a command line - like so C:\temp\kitchen\>nbhextract.exe RUU_signed.nbh
6. You should now have several .nb files in that directory, the one we're interested in is the 01_SPL.nb.
hi guys,
i got stuck on here. i downloaded nbhextract.exe and opened, it just popped up a black screen and went off right away. so when i ran it it just a pop up. what did i do wrong?

Note: on Windows vista with Windows Mobile Device Center v6.1.
Once you run SSPL-Kaiser on PDA and then run KaiserCustom RUU.exe, (if you unplug and replug in USB or not) KaiserCustomRUU.exe
