Guys,
I've been flashing my beloved Hermes so many times that I have lost count.
Most of the issues had I managed to solve myself and by reading through.
With the latest ATT ROM very stripped own ROM (out MMS, PTT, Transcriber, Ringtones, Cyberon, Camera, Calculator and other minor stuff that I usually take out) I find that assigning apps to button 5 do not work either by personal cab settings or via start/settings. I usually do that for flashlight and brighter screen.
I also took out all the autoconfigurations from Preconfig.txt or Config.txt from original ExtROM.
With earlier TMOB 3.61 (stripped similar to above minus PTT obvious) it works okay, just re-tested -- so no hardware issue.
Is there any experienced ATT ROM cooker that can put some light in here please?
Is it PTT realated somwhow?
Many thanks in advance for your support,
dan

It is definitely PTT related. You can have it back with the great PTTFix from Sleuth.
If you get error on startup because of the missing PTT Service, just replace the \windows\PTTFix.dll with the one here. Sleuth was kind enough to build this special dll to get this issue fixed.

Well PTT is out completely (stripped) as I do not have use for it and therefore that .dll do (did) not help. (copied it anyway).
As additional info all the changes done via start/settings/buttons to button five do not reflect in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C6 or 7.
For the other buttons is okay. Very weird.

You missunderstood what I said. This DLL is a part of a service; it require 1 other file and some registry setting to works correctly. The easiest way to have all this done is to setup the PTTFix from sleuth (can be found in the Hermes upgrading section I think) and then to replace the PTTFix with this one.

Last step is to go to Setting -> Button and to have it configured.

This DLL is especialy made for rom without PTT service but the ATT keyboarddr.dll.

Gee you were faster typing than me, I already did that and it worked!!
I lack the knowledge to understand why, but it worked great.
I owe you one.
Thanks,
dan

hey fun_key i think that i also misunderstand your guidelines.

please, correct me if i'm wrong

first i have to install the vp3G_PTT_Reassign.cab
and later substitute the pttfix.dll with the one provided by Sleuth.

then if there is another required file and some registry settings, which of the vp3G_PTT_Reassign.cab files can be safely deleted to continue enyoying the 5 button feature. Do you know it?

thanks for your help

ok, finally i've figured it out. i was completely wrong.
what did i have to do was to install the ptt.fix.cab from the sleuth post "Cingular ROM users: PTT function hacked!" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279585

and later your posted in this threed pttfix.dll.

Now i have a working button. the pity is that it is not recognized by AE Button and now i can not assign more that the default 2 actions ( press & press and hold). With AE button were possible 4 actions.

but thanks a lot anyway Fun_key
