What I'm trying to confirmed is whether you have bricked you wifi drivers and from what you are describing tells me indeed you have bricked your wifi, but lets make sure. Ok, what I need you to do is reinstall another ROM on your device and look in the Comm Manager Area for the WLAN Settings and click "WIFI" and tell me what you see! Don't panic the wifi fix is very easy........!

I'm on WM6.1. So what exactly are you looking for? Once I click Wi-fi Settings, I am just showing my avail networks.

Is that all you wanted to know?

I know that it works, but as soon as it connects the Wi-fi option is removed from the phone.

Thanks in advance.

Dudes, I have a problem.
I just buy a brand new D-link Wi-Fi Router and installed it in my home.
But when I try to connet to wireless thats happen:
First click to some link: Super connection no problem
Second click: Little slow connection but no problem
3th click: Very very slow connection
4th click: no connection (but Wi-Fi is still connected with full connection status).

When I dissconect and connect again everything goes to start again - fast connection, slower, slower, no connection.
What happen?

I am sure I installed the Wi-Fi correctly, and this model is very very popular.
I have no chanse to check with other wi-fi devices.

If there any third party programs to connect with wi-fi for smartphones I will try it. If there are any connection setting for router or for phone i will try it.
Thank you.

Try downgrading your router to 802.11b temporarily and see what happens. Also, try changing the channel. If nothing works, get a different router (if you want it to work with your phone). :) I had a Linksys WRT54G and it wouldnt work with any of my HTC phones (HTC Tytn or my Excalibur). I bought a DLink-625 and it works....

Dudes I make hardware reset to my Router and set everything again, and now works. Little slowly maybe.

The model of the router is D-Link DI-524 old good model with no change TTL function. I see there are settings about performance.
What should I change to boost the speed?

SirKeats
16th April 2008, 11:58 PM
if you delete all of your gprs profiles there won't be any way for the phoen to connect to gprs since it won't now what settings/info to use in order to do so.

i use wifi only in this way and haven't ever had a problem.

ccampton

i believe you can just go to gprs settings and change what provider it connects to or just not select one at all

It depends on what ROM you are running but the basics. Go into your WiFi settings, find Power Mode and uncheck the box for "Auto Turn off wlan if no wlan or user activities after LCD Off"

If you have problems with router, maybe you have settings problems - play with your router fine tune settings, about connection, but after all in your dash: Start-->Settings-->Connections-->WLAN Settings-->Power Mode and set "Best performance". Try with this settings. I have the same problem and this resolve it!

good luck.

Here ya go. WiFi always on after reboot:

(abbreviated as HKLM)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\TNETWLN1\Parms

In that folder, there will be a D-word value registry key, called "HTCPreloadWifi". You will need to edit this value, or if it is not there you will need to create it. Set it to 1 to preload WiFi on reboot or 0 to disable preload on WiFi on reboot

You will need to do a softreset after the above reg edit.

Another "solution" is to put a shortcut in your startup folder to WiFiInit.

sunycheeba416

lukybandit
14th May 2008, 10:26 AM
Yes, It's free because you are using your own "access point". Data (GPRS) and Wi-Fi are completely different and for GPRS you pay through your provider for an "always on" connection wherever you are whereas if you use your own WiFi, your fine but there are some hot spots (Wi-Fi) you need to pay for.

Hope that helps.

indiekiduk
14th May 2008, 02:56 PM
i am using my own wireless access point but i was scared because before they told me that in order to use wifi i needed a data plan

They must have assumed you didn't have your own wifi access point at home for some reason. The T-Mobile etc. Wifi access points in airports and hotels do need a data plan which is what they meant, but it can be a one off payment aswell, only business users who are in airports daily would pay monthly for wifi hotspot access. However, if you had a GPRS data plan you would unlikely ever go and find a wifi hotspot. The main use of them is people who have laptops which the majority of only have WiFi cards internally, not GPRS. When the next generation of laptops all of 3G cards internally and the 3G iphone comes out, we will likely see very cheap unlimited 3G data plans and I think that will spark the decline of WiFi hotspots ran by cellular operators.

hi, i just bought a t-mobile branded (mda mail) htc s620

i have added rikkys rom 14 and i have no option anywhere for wlan.

i have another htc s620 which is with the BT broadband package, and that wlan/wifi options are present, although the wireless doesnt work for more than 30 seconds. - thats another story.

but on this t-mobile unit, the comm manager only lists bluetooth and phone.

its as if there is a faulty or missing wifi device - or did certain models not have the wifi?

i have reset and reset and reloaded etc, same thing always. do i need to find a driver cab for it possibly, if so where would i search, as google yields nothing.

thanks for any pointers. :)

ps. its unlocked, but i dont have a working sim in it during all of this, could that be the issue?

hi,

but its knowhere on this t-mobile one. - its has all the same options there, GPRS PC TO usb etc but no wi-fi or wlan equivalent.

i know it has it cause i went thru all his updates and he made them.
Although i finally decided on his Vanilla Version. :)
Stripped of most of the programs, i dont use or need.
Maybe it was a bad flash. might be a hassle but you MIGHT have to reflash.

yeah no worries, a reflash is not a problem at all, as i said, i have already done that (my bad, i said reloaded = reflashed)

i will try a different rom altogether though to see if that helps.

I don't think it matters if it is 620 or 621. The point is it is the T-Mobile branded model and they decided to remove the WiFi chip from it. The reason is to force you to pay for cellular data. Orange do the same thing with some devices in the UK.

Hey wassup everybody.

I have 2 questions.

1) When I have my wifi turned on it is constantly making a beep. I have deduced that it it is turning itself on and off when my screen goes black. Every time I press a button and my screen becomes active it accesses the wifi and connects to it, implying to me that it disconnects temporarily when my screen is inactive. That sucks to begin with, if anyone know how to keep this from disconnecting if it is TRULY disconnecting, pleas tell me how. Here's my question: What registry key do I need to kill or disable in order to kill this beeping sound when it disconnects or connects. Maybe it's a finding networks beep. I don't know, but I definitely want to kill this beep for wifi.

2) I am using SmartToolkit. I want to assign a hotkey to something. I know how to assign the key. My problem is say I assign the "alt" key to a program, whenever I use the "alt" key, instead of it functioning, it opens the program assigned to it. How can I remedy my situation?

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

Hey Outerdepth,

1) I get the same beep, so far I haven't come across how to get rid of the beep but if i do, i'll let you know and yeah, i find it pretty annoying and i dont think my wi-fi disconnects but i'll look into that.

2) I just assigned a key and it works fine on mine. Let me try the IE shortcut and see if it works.

EDIT: Ok, I tried the IE Shortcut, Celetasks open and the program i assigned to it opens. Hmm, Sorry I know this isn't of much help. If i bump into something, I'll let u know. Gluck

In reference to your 2nd answer:

I can make the hotkey open the program, what I AM SAYING is that when I open notepad or anything that requires I use the alt key, it opens my program assigned to that hot key, instead of the "alt" function working like it is supposed to. I only want the hot key to function when my screen is on the homescreen, and on the homescreen only.

Thanks in advance.:D

Yeah, I ran into the same problem. I used the delete key and now it behaves like a hot key in all situations. no problem but sorry I couldn't help.

Not to jack your thread or anything but On a different note, do you see in technology's thread? he has two screens, one that's crappy quality, another outstanding quality? Any idea how he did that? Codecs, I know - do you know which ones? I don't get his documentation, there's so many players and so many links, it doesn't make sense to me. I tried one and it works but crappy quality. Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem. I ended up with the correct one, though.

I'll check it out and see what I have, but if I am correct, just install the FlashVideo.cab and his technology player.cab and all of the codecs you need should be there. Mine works fine. I will check into this further and ask Tech what's up with this.

Also, I have tried my Tzones key and it opens up the Celetask instead. If someone know where I can edit the Tzones key to something else, that would be fine too. Actually that's what I would prefer.

Hello, long time lurker, first time poster.

I searched for this and I cannot find the answer, so I will ask if you do not mind. :)

I have now received the unlock code for my phone from T-mobile, no clue how to use it yet, :D but I do know that even though I no longer have service with them the WIFI still works great with my home internet WIFI connection. I have no carrier service whatsoever on this phone, it still has the T-Mobile original SIM card inside.

The mobile version of SKYPE works on my phone for messaging purposes through the WIFI connection, and SKYPE actually sells WIFI mobile phones now, so the next thing I am going to try is to use skype credits to try to make a call. If that does not work, I will try GIZMO? If it is an OS problem and neither work, does anyone have any modification suggestions to make it work?

Also, I have seen from many of the instructional posts here that a new SIM card has to be installed to "unlock" the device with the unlock code, which I have? What I want to do is get rid of all of the T-Mobile branding screens and menus and be able to install the software of my choosing.

from what i understand, the dash cant be used as a voip phone. someone please correct me if im wrong...i also think i read you cant even use it as a voip phone using tmobiles hotspot@home service.

as for the sim. just throw in a friends/families sim thats on a different network and it will ask you for that code.

the only way to get rid of all the tmobile branding is to switch to a non tmobile rom..htc,rogers, kavana, rickwyatt etc... sim unlocking the phone will not get rid of all the tmobile branding. all sim unlock does is let you use that phone on networks other than tmobile

Now I understand why I wasn't finding anything here on the forums on this, I was not searching for VOIP :o I was searching for dash wifi phone.

I guess voip is the same as skype? I love the way this phone has no carrier service but I can do anything I want with the wifi on it, like surf the net, message in skype, etc. right now, everything except make calls.

So the key now is to find a sim card, an HTC one? There are no other carriers in my area except for verizon and they do not accomodate the dash phone. Finding a new card to put in should be easy enough.

I have been reading the link on voip and the ROM changes, thank you very much.

I've been looking all over for an app that lets you print docs, appts, notes, tasks, etc. JetCet and PrintBoy don't work for smart phones, just pocket pc's. I tried ActivePrint.net, but that requires you to install software on a desktop computer, then your phone connects to the computer via wifi to send the print jobs.. So the computer has to be on for the whole printing from the smart phone works. Does anyone know of one that works via wifi without the need for a computer? At this point I don't care if I have to pay for it.

NRGZ28

I doubt it. For that to work you'd have to find some software with builtin generic printer drivers that can be installed on the phone itself! Can't say I ever came across that yet... And I've been around...:)

I apologize if this has been answered in this forum earlier. I searched and could not find the answer.

Here is my question. Everytime I reboot the phone, I have to manually switch the WiFi on. Is there something that I can do to make the default state on. That is, the WiFi, by default, switches on when the device is powered up--- exactly like the phone is on by default. Can this be done. Thanks in advance.

What's up guys?

So today, I was messing around with my phone as usual, and was using the program "Startup Manager" and in the Windows\Startup\ folder there were 2 files.

btdwake.lnk
wifiint.lnk (not sure the exact file name)

anyway, i deleted the wifiint.lnk and rebooted, now i'am unable to turn wifi back on using Comm Manager.

What I need:

If someone can please post the wifiint.lnk found under Windows\Startup as an attachment to this post so i can try to upload it back to my phone and see if wifi will turn on now.

If I go to Comm Manager -> settings -> WLAN Settings -> Connection Status

I see:

Status: Driver is not loaded

So I'am guessing, the file that I deleted, handled the loading of the wifi driver.

in Settings->Power mode.....uncheck the box or set the time period for the "beep" to a longer time.

turning the wifi power save off will not solve the problem.

wifi will stay on unnecessarily and then you drain the battery.

WE NEED TO GET RID OF THE SOUND!!!

You control how long wifi can be kept on without being used in another setting.
WIFI along...will drain your battery. Period.

Hey,

I recently encountered a problem with my wifi after i installed rickywyatt v24. when i go to settings>connections>Wlan settings>connection status it says driver not loaded. Also when i go to the comm manager i click the wifi button and it loads and does nothing. I've tried hard reset loading different roms and none seem to work. I really need help. Thanks.

Ok ummm this is weird let me check this out, I will reflash with this rom. If this seems to be the problem try to go with Kavana's Rom.

030818 final version only include os and PrimarySplash,so if you can't use wifi, update your radio to the newest brightpoint version.

download it here:

I have the same problem. Tried to update the radio version , but got error 272. Is it possible to update by a cab installation file? Is there any other solution (other than dropping the phone).
Thanks
