Guys just a quick message to say that with 2 -3 hours of work (and some searching in the posts) I was able to install the whole beta 9 and make it work perfectly without previous knowledge of PDAs.

Powerbyte and wm6fsc you have done the job amazingly, unvelibable, thnks!

The only issue I still have currently (Beta 9) is with Camera button not taking pictures, but only opening Pictures and Videos. I looked under Settings->Buttons but could not figure out how to configure that button properly.

If we assume you have put the right ROM and you have strictly followed the instructions about it, I think you need another push of the soft reset button only. Usually, after the green bar is full (during flash up) more nothing happens.

I did a smooth reset but the OS did not load it is stuck, i can see only the that photo and nothing is written there. i did not change the rom at all i used like i downloaded it. Should i modify the rom in the notepad?

I have one big problem with Beta 9.
Sometime I have fade off (switch off) screen and I can not receive calls (caller have a ringing tone, but T830 doesn't ring).

When I use FSC Profiles and profile "Max Battery" - then I have problem on my phone- it fade off (switch off) screen immedietly!

Maybe this profile "Max Battery" have a problem because I'm using "Advanced Config" from Programs/Tolls and in "Advanced Config" submenu "Power Management". In that "Advanced Config" menu I have enabled power savings from SD/MMC card slot and other functions.
Sometime when I have this problem I can back screen with long press Enter, then with press any button I got "unlock" screen.

I'm using lock with long press "Enter" key and Spb Mobile Shell.

Now my battery with 3060mAh can power PDA about 3 days, and original battery about 1,5 days (with using at phone mode- primary, with no GPS, WLAN and other functions), but original battery power T830 less than one day.
Without any additional settings in the AdvancedConfig (e.g. stay as they are in the ROM) my T830 is powered by the original battery about 1,5 days. Daily use of: Mainly phone function, GPS for 20-30min., WiFi for 5-10min. Using '
'Enter' for key lock or/and Spb Mobile Shell too.
I think it is normal.
Nevertheless I would to buy a bigger battery, just in case.
BTW, where you have found this 3060mAh from?
I have not tested the 'MaxBattery' Profile, but I think it is better to keep it as original settings are. I do so.

1. Go to post 1094, on page 110 in this thread and download : ..... Beta 9. The ROMs from the opening posts are not supported by their builders since months, so we are not testing them. The only one that is supported and commented here since months, is the one from post 1094. The builder is: powerbyte The Greate ! :)
2.Flash the device with it.
3.After the green bar is full and you get the "....DONE" message under, do a HARD Reset. From the three options appeared, choose: 'Factory defaults".
4.The Device restart in the new ROM.

Hello!
Still same- my screen fade out after switch on "Max Battery" FSC profile. I will reinstall Beta 9 and test on clean installation. Original battery can not power phone more than 20h and also other battery with same capacity (I didn't tested 3060mAh battery-because I'm now using 2 batteries with 1560mAh). I'm using low level brightness and still is same. In advanced management I'm using power saving for SD/MMC card.
Have you power save settings for SD/MMC card or you using only "Max Battery" FSC profile.

You can find 3060mAh on eBay and it have bigger dimensions than original with special plastic cover. At my first test this battery power PDA about 3,5 days. I bought battery from UK seller- it is cheaper than others and have fast delivery.

One notice- it seems that T830 sometime have a problem with battery indicator sensor (hardware problem) because indicator show lower capacity than real. I think that is not because of ROM.

No, no maybe I have mislead you by chance. Sorry.
I have NOT yoused the Max Battery settings.
I advised you to stay with the original settings in BETA 9. e.g. NO Max Battery.
This way all my description from above is valid.
No, SDcard power savings, No other changes from the settings provided by BETA 9. This is what i suggest you and this way I have a day and a half powererd device by the original battery, based on the useaga described above..
Concerning 3060 battery: could you provide a link to this reseller?

As wrote before I would like to make a list (review) of the most resent Anti-Thieft applications available in order you to try to integrate ONE of them in the next version.
As per purpose, this kind of apps are recommended to integrate in ROMs by their developers itselves.

Tested Beta 9 for a couple of days now. Overall it is Ok, with the minor issues already mentioned above (GPS longer time for first fix, video not working, missing the tray bar).

FSC Profiles for me it's a mix bag: on one hand it is good to be able to power off the phone, on the other hand it is annoying at times (come back from standby, try to unlock with long press "enter" and the phone goes back in standby, repeat, etc).

Coolcamera is reasonable: v1.15 makes good 1600x1200 pictures. Video on the other hand seems limited to 194x144. Unfortunately there is no development for this app so no chances to iron the bugs for T830.

It seems that Powerbyte is bringing the T830 WM6.1 port very close to a final realease - thanks once again.
Next could come some equally talented cookers to make all the different versions (light/ with theft protection/ with all FSC apps, etc) to suit all the tastes :)

R.

Well i think it is possible to compile a Android Kernel to boot on FSC T830. But the main problem is its hardware support. Well, FSC T830 has supported Processor and enough ROM and RAM to make Android fit in. I did not test it or did any work to compile such kernel but if you want to work on it then let me know :D. All we need are some basic info about the hardware to know if its worth trying or not.

Non of these roms are "final". There are little bugs, or not working parts in all of these roms.
AES is not supported under Windows Mobile 5, unfortunately. The T830 can handle WPA-PSK TKIP, but not WPA-AES.

Few impression on Beta X:
- it has some new programs/tools: GPS Locator, FSC Backup, Nodata, SRS WOW;
- keeps the minor issues from Beta 9 (no FSC keylock, no video rec, no traybar - would be useful to know when you have Caps or FN active, no "numeric keyboard in phone" aka "blue kb" but this has workaround by pressing 2 times fn)
- can not tell whether there is any change in GPS TTFF.

After flashing and checking arround I made a restore from SPB Backup 2 with " Force ROM Update Mode" and it was almost Ok.

Powerbyte - BIG Thanx for your effort. If you can fix the minor issues above you can call it final and... maybe focus on WM 6.5 or Android .

@powerbyte and pt_t830

I'm trying Beta X, and my opinion is:

1 - Slow respect Beta 8 expecially:
a - GPS Fix time
b - Wakeup from standby take several seconds

2 - S2US works fine with Beta 8, doesn't work with Beta 9 and X.
The issue is that doesn't lock "long press" of Red button and FSC Profile is recalled and works fine.

3 - Reminder sound must be setup before to work.

4 - Lock function built in WM6.1 doesn't have an autolock timer, so the use of S2US (or similar programs) is needed.

For now it's all, I'm proceding to test.

I have almost the same problem sometimes with an earlier acubens rom. If I turn the device into standby, sometimes it won't wake up. If a bluetooth connection is active, the blue led keeps flashing, but I cant turn the device on. Only a soft reset helps. I know it's a different rom, but maybe it's a hardware issue with wm 6.1, like the video calling function. By the way, I1m using this rom for a long time without any minor bugs.

Try the latest Kitchen Version from Powerbyte (post #1094)

Build yourself without changes and install using SD.
- Copy Flash/MDOC.DIO on the root of SD card
- Reset T830 pressing OFF and Phots buttons.
- Wait flashing
- Reset T830 Pressing OFF button and choice Factory default.

In this way you obtain a minimal, but very fast and stable ROM.
(there are some minor bugs, but it's very usable)

Best work.

There is 6.5 ROM on prehistoric HTC Blueangel....

6.5 is not released on any devices yet officially(as far as I know)
, so I think uploading this rom is maybe illegal, or something like this. I don't know much about laws. There were posts on xda with 6.5 uploads, but the uploader had to remove those, Microsoft asked him... :) But I'm waiting for 6.5 too, maybe someday... :)

Best work.
- Tea4two

Maybe with more details:

Build yourself without changes and install using SD. (I suggest to remove: NoData, soft reset (install MagicButton after flash), SRS WOW, GPS-Storage Card)
- Copy Flash/MDOC.DIO on the root of SD card (use non SDHC fresh formated card)
- Reset T830 pressing OFF and Phots buttons.(press and hold for a 3-4s: photo+poweroff+reset button(with stylus)
- Wait flashing
- Reset T830 Pressing OFF button and choice Factory default. (use hard reset - press and hold poweroff+reset button(with stylus), then select factory default and boot to new ROM)

I did as you suggested, with french keyboard seems like everything is working but no sound at all in both earpiece and speaker :( ; build and reflashed with English keyboard, now everything is working except video recording  ;by the way, what about the CPU speed scaling, is it safe to push it to maximum more than 416 MHz??? and how to solve the video recording issue?

Hello

If during flashing you got "Error=15, EMP function failed" then you have to go to service, see
http://www.clieuk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=19721&page=16

Anyway it seems it's the service for you.
One supid question: does anything happen when you try to start it up (screen light, etc)? If not maybe the battery is totally dead?

Good luck.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a curio T830 I've recently bought to play with. It came with a non standard WM5 firmware. There was no boot splash (booted with just a blue screen) Showed a version number of 0.0707 if I remember correctly. Aside from no boot splash the key combinations were also different, I had to push the "Tape" button, not the photo button to get into USB download or SD download modes. I also never got the "New USB Download" string just "USB Download" (and no version numbers shown). Now this wouldn't really be a problem, but I never backed up the original OS image(stupid, stupid). And after I SD flashed it with the MDOC.DIO from the last official firmware most of it's features died completely. There's no SD, WLAN, Phone, Bluetooth, Cameras, GPS (though the latter didn't work in the custom rom either). So now I'm essentially stuck with a PDA that doesn't even handle SD cards. :) Other symptoms after flashing:missing CPS.exe error at boot (?) sporadic errors about a missing Taskschedule.exe, display gets garbled (flashing lines) after backlight turns off.

if I try to enable the Phone from the wireless manager, it hangs
it doesn't even see the Wifi chip, or BT
In the engineering menu system info, everything is empty, but I can send AT commands, and the GSM part replies to ATI with "Ericsson Mobile Platform".
Official updater comes back with a communications error, and in rescue mode the bootloader errors out.

I'm pretty much out of ideas on this one. Could this be a pre-release prototype with different hardware, and am I completely screwed because I lost the only suitable firmware for it in existence? Or does anyone know what else could be going on?

Thanks :)

Hi,
I would like to ask whether somebody els has tried Beta X.
As per original post (no.1094) this release contains 5 (five) rows begin with "+".
I assume this means "added".
If so, this means all these apps in the five rows are added to the apps that were available in Beta 9.
But is this possible? As remember, the maximum size of the ROM has a limit.
Thus I doubt all the apps from Beta 9 are available in Beta X.

But which one are missing?

In order to try or not the risk to test Beta X I need to know this. As I am really working with this phone. And I am quite happy and grateful to powerbyte for the Beta 9 release !! No major problem since its release till now. Just sometimes needs to restart the device. But works really great !!

I have downloaded and flashed following ROM : T8xx WM 6.1 Firmware 2009 Version Beta X

I need to setup MMS and Internet connections, so I did following:

Internet Configuration
In Setting -> Connections -> My ISP -> Add a new modem connections

Name for Connection : Internet Lmt
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
APN : internet.lmt.lv
Finish

MMS Configuration
In Setting -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Networks -> New

Name for Connection : Mms Lmt
Modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
APN : mms.lmt.lv
Finish

Check that in In Setting -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Networks -> My ISP stands for Internet usage

Go to Messaging -> SMS/MMS -> Menu -> MMS Options -> Servers -> New

Server Name : mms
Server address: http://mmsc.lmt.lv/mmsc
Connect Via: Mms Lmt
WAP version : 2.0

Result:
1) If I try to download email, it can be done
2) After that if I try to sent mms, it can be done
3) After that If I try to download email, it can't be done, it tries to use mms connection, but should use Internet Lmt connection
4) If I try to Disconnect connection and then run Email downloading, it can't make Internet Lmt connection - hangs with Connecting.. message

How can I use MMS and Internet simultaneously, should the configuration be done in another way?

I am currently running PowerByte beta 9 from post #1094, it is quite buggy in my T830. Battery time is lousy, signal too, and it's taking it up to 20sec for identification of incoming call to be visible.
I am to try beta X and if it isn't better I'm reverting to Acubens ROM from post #749, it's the best I've tried so far.

Hello!
PowerByte beta X also need up to 5 sec for identification of incoming call to be visible (ringing with delay also) but other functions work very well.
Use overclocker utility in ROM for faster work.

Hi Guys,

I'm kinda new to this, so first of all thanks to everyone actively developing new stuff for the trusty old T830.

Well, as a thanks I want to give something back. I found out how to flash the GPS firmware, and I am working on getting AGPS to work on the T830. I am nowhere near finished, so stay tuned for updates.

So far I can confirm that the Loox N5xx's GPS firmware (GSW3.2.4Pat2_3.1.00.12-SDK001P1.00) works OK on the T830, and is indeed AGPS capable (unlike seemingly the original one as well as the 3.2.5 from Falcom, which also runs OK)

To test if the firmware really can use AGPS, I use SirfDemoPPC 1.16, older versions will seemingly not support SirfInstantFix:

http://www.usglobalsat.com/downloads/SiRFDemoPPC.zip

In this software you can load the extended ephemeris files available for example here:

http://service.mio-tech.com/eeservice/packedephemeris.ee
http://htcscm13.htc.com.tw/clm/packedEphemeris.ee

In the "signal" view you can see the satellites' bars turn pink if the satellite is being used by applying SirfInstantFix extended ephimeris data (as opposed to blue = not used for navigation and green = ephimeris from satellite broadcast).

For me, the fastest TTFF (time to first fix) seems to be like this:

In SiRFDemoPPC switch to Sirf Binary mode, load the .ee file, issue a warm start command, then some seconds later issue a hot start command. Strange...

As I said, I am still investigating. These are just my observations so far, and I won't stop investigating until I know for sure whats happening and why :)

My goal is to have the AGPS work as automatic as on the Loox N5xx. So far I don't see the COM port sharing to work at all on the T830, though, which would be necessary for the N5xx tool to provide the .ee data automatically and transparently in the background (instead of having the application that uses the GPS exclusively take care of this - as most navigation software doesn't have this capability).

UPDATE: How to get an almost usable Sirf Instant Fix is described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3683425&postcount=1370

Please use the following description with extreme caution. It will ONLY update the GPS firmware. But: So far I have already bricked one T830 (for no apparent reason, after a few successful tries, update screen on the device just said "failed" and wants to update again at every start of the phone, won't boot, but the windows software used can't update "again"), so this way seems not 100% fool proof :( Luckily it was only a 2nd "spare" T830, and my main one is still available to test... so with many updates like this (maybe 20 or so) 1 failed... so be warned. I am sure it's possible to "un-brick" the failed T830, but you would need some software that can send the correct firmware to the updater on the phone...

UPDATE: Here you can get the complete firmware flash files, without any modification by yourself necessary: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4236994&postcount=1458

- Get the official flash update from the manufacturer:
http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/Download/ShowDescription.asp?SoftwareGUID=056FC2DD-4BFC-4138-BCCA-81BE49F5F36B&OSID=4503FF74-F254-4540-9465-3C9091B1C36E&Status=True&Component=Operating%20System

- Install on your windows PC

- Go to c:\fsc.tmp\PocketLOOX8xx\FlashUpdateV811

- edit os.lst (hidden file) to look like this:

+
<DGPS,3.5.0,0.1,undefined,undefined,undefined>
CN3.bin
-

in the 2nd line enter the version that you want to be shown in the update tool... not really any influence on how it works, so you can ignore it
In the 3rd line enter the file name of the .bin file BINARY firmware image. If you only have the .s s-record version of a firmware, you need to convert it to .bin BINARY first, using one of the million easily found converters on the net.

- Put the binary firmware file in the same directory
Download the 3.5.0 firmware for example here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3664766&postcount=1359

If you need to go back: The old original is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3735151&postcount=1396

- Connect the T830 cradle to both AC adapter and laptop, must have an active sync link

(If you do NOT have a cradle, maybe this hint helps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1888017&postcount=86)

- Run the T830 software update like normally

- The T830 will go to new USB download mode, and will show that the flash was successful (hopefully) after it's done

- Do a reset after that, since the automatic reset at the end that the flash software expects doesn't work

- If you want an automatic FACTORY reset (lose all data, go back to defaults for everything at the end), use the following os.lst instead:

+
<DGPS,3.5.0,0.1,undefined,undefined,undefined>
CN3.bin
<RSTC,undefined,undefined,undefined,undefined,undef ined>
POE.dum
-

So, now have fun with this knowledge that I discovered by simple trial and error after looking at the official flash update (that also updates other stuff besides the operating system) ;)

I will update once I have better understandings about AGPS, confirmed other firmwares working, or found a way to make AGPS run as easy as on Loox N5xx...

Now if anyone can help me update the firmware on an N100, I'd be one happy camper :D

Hello,
interesting how-to, but I missing link to GPS firmware binary file. Where can I find this 324_n5xx.bin?

Dobri den Stilka :)

The .s file of the N560 can be found in Post number 405:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2068954&postcount=405

I took the tool from http://www.s-record.com/ to convert from .s to .bin:

http://www.goffart.co.uk/s-record/download/srec_121_win.zip

srec2bin htcgpsupdate.s 324_n5xx.bin

Here are the defaults of this firmware:
Name: GSW3.2.4Pat2_3.1.00.12-SDK001P1.00
Mode: NMEA
Baud rate: 57600
Static Navigation:On
angle mask: 5/5
power mask: 0/12

Another interesting and working firmware can be found here: http://www.falcom.de/uploads/media/JP13_1.12_SDK_3.2.5__NMEA_NEPH_38400_070508.zip

Defaults are:
Name: GSW3.2.5_3.3.01.06-SDK001P1.00
Mode: SiRF
Baud Rate: 38400

But: AGPS / SirfInstantFix does NOT seem to work with this firmware and SiRFDEMOPPC's TTFF feature doesn't work either.

According to the release notes, though, it has a lot of helpful new features over the older versions: http://www.falcom.de/uploads/media/VDD_3_2_5.pdf

Hello all, yellowfever

I can confirm successfully flash of both firmwares. At the moment I am using latest 3.2.5 (I started with 3.2.4, then flashed 3.2.5) and both are working great! After FW flash you have to change COM6 port speed from 9600 to 38400 (in case of 3.2.5). That's all.

note:
- the name of the fw file shoud always have "xxx_n5xx.bin" format. Without "_n5xx" will flash failed at the start (device will "survive")
- after I played with SiRFDemoPPC and switched to Sirf Binary mode I had problem switch back to NMEA mode. I solved it by removing battery for a while. Then NMEA start working OK and navigation software is seeing GPS device again.

@yellowfever: I wish you luck with COM port sharing problem :-)

After I played with SiRFDemoPPC and switched to Sirf Binary mode I had problem switch back to NMEA mode. I solved it by removing battery for a while. Then NMEA start working OK and navigation software is seeing GPS device again. It happen in firmware 3.2.5.

Please note that when switching sirf/nmea modes, SiRFDemoPPC also automatically switches baud rates. If I recxall correctly, with sirf it switches to 57600, and with NMEA it switches to 4800. I know it's dumb, but that is how that tool works :( I always use sirftech or a similar tool to switch back to the baud rates I need.

...found another working firmware:

GSW3.5.0_3.5.00.00-C35P2.00
Mode: NMEA
Baud rate: 57600
Static Navigation:Off
angle mask: 0/5
power mask: 0/12

...and the TTF in SirfDemoPPC works as well, as does the AGPS feature. If I am not mistaken it also increases the sensitivity a bit, since now I could get a fix even at my work desk, behind sunscreen glass, where I couldn't get any before. So I guess that's the ideal firmware so far for me :D But I still found no way to update the N100 :(

This version seems to be very recent, it's a follow up to 3.2.5. Changes are listed here:
ftp://epsfiles.intermec.com/eps_files/SWFiles/GSW(LT)3.5.pdf

I got it from intermec's firmware update here:
ftp://epsfiles.intermec.com/eps_files/SWFiles/00002657_Intermec_CN3_GPS_Firmware_Upgrade.exe

This exe has to be run on the T830, it will create a directory called "Intermec CN3 GPS Firmware Upgrade" in the main memory. Get the file "CN3.firmware.gps" from there to your PC. IPORTANT! Now remove the first 32 bytes from that file (I used juJuEdit for that) and rename it to for example CN3.bin - and you are good to go :)

Anyone tried to make a french WM6.1 rom for T830 ?

I cooked one, based on the last Powerbyte kitchen version (post 1301), in included french mui packages. Flash the device, but freeze on first WM logo startup (before stylet calibration). :(

If anyone can advice me... :)

edit: After another try, i successful have a working french OS rom, but with some translation bugs.

Hello!
I want German language on hardware keypad, because I flash T830 with kitchen version (from post 1301#) and after flashing this Powerbyte kitchen version show version WM6.1 is OS 5.2.1908 (Build 19209.2.3.0).

With this version OS 5.2.1908 (Build 19209.2.3.0) I can not get any other upgrade (German keyboard language or FSC Profiles for example) althougt I choose this in upgrade procedure, it seems that Kitchen always use same file for flashing. :(

I can't find link for for newest kitchen version- Emulator Version 6.1.4 CE OS 5.2.20757 (Build 20757.1.4.0) in post 1094#. Have you this version?

Ok first of all thanks for all the guys doing a great job out there.
Here’s my experience, flashed the 3.5.0 version and couldn't get more than 2 satellites working after 15 minutes of GPS Locator and with no FIX.
Then flashed the 3.2.4 and can get 8/9 satellites and god fix within 3 to 4 minutes. ( GPS Locator, R66 and TT7 OK)
First conclusions, don't see much improvement in 3.2.4 based on original 3.1.1 in these preliminary tests and really don’t understand why the problem of not getting more than 2 satellites whit 3.5.0.
I have already and previously installed GPSQuickFix from Loox N5xx and downloaded the ephemeris files but can’t seem to get this working. I thought that with this firmware (3.2.4) should be functioning and reading the downloaded file just as the Loox N5xx does but I’m missing something for sure. By the way can someone get (dump) the original firmware file, for us to have a backup, just in case. . Thanks to all your efforts and keep doing such a great job.

Yes, I am, but before this on working system, and it can't work after this, keypad was dead.
Maybe this key isn't correct (because it have subkey with 0010409, maybe it must be also 0010407???):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Layouts\e0010407]

Because that I'm trying to find newest english ROM with German hardware keypad driver.

powerbyte made a very good work with Beta X. I'm using fresh intallation now and it work almost perfect.
I have Spb Mobile Shell V3.0 installed and it is very fast (I'm using overclocking like in post #1342), a new GPS firmware
from post #1359 / #1357).
Because of overclocking battery have a shorter duration, but it is OK to me (I have additional battery).
Also I'm using Cool Camera for pictures and SRS WOW Module for better sound.

With this T830 is much better than earlier.

Some problems disappiared after this fresh installation (like problem with Beta X from post #1345)!!!

Beta X need only small changes for final version, and it's best of the best ROM T830 version until now!!!

You have advice for French keyboard on post #1336.

You are very welcome, and I am happy that I can finally give something back to the community ;)

- Sorry, I know no way how to dump the original firmware.

- 2.5.0 definitely works great here... don't know why not for you. Please try with SirfDemoPPC to see what's actually happening.

I have already and previously installed GPSQuickFix from Loox N5xx and downloaded the ephemeris files but can’t seem to get this working. I thought that with this firmware (3.2.4) should be functioning and reading the downloaded file just as the Loox N5xx does but I’m missing something for sure.

Well, this is what I was working on the last days. By now I am pretty sure that everyone claiming to have gotten this stuff to work so far probably just saw a placebo effect. Either that, or I am totally dumb :P

The problem seems to be that the "GPS Intermediate Driver" from the N5xx does NOT work on the T830. Here's a simple description of what I understand should be going on if quickgps / sirfinstantfix really works OK:

- Set the date, time, and location correctly in the system

- Use any way (for example QuickGPS software, or manual download) to download the file packedEphemeris.ee to the \windows folder

- To use this feature all GPS software MUST connect to the SOFTWARE (virtual) port (Microsoft GPS Intermediate Driver), not the GPS-Chip at COM6 directly!

- When the software COM port is opened by the GPS software, the driver (probably gpsid.dll) unpacks the packedEphemeris.ee file to a new file called ephdata.clm

- The GPS firmware finds a first sattelite, and gets the GPS time

- Then the GPS firmware will, for every satellite it sees, give an message like "what is the ephemeris (location data) of this satellite?" to the serial bus

- The GPS intermediate driver sees this message, calculates the ephemeris data from the ephdata.clm, and sends this to the GPS firmware over teh serial bus

- The GPS firmware can now also use more satellites for a fix than before (because it has the calculated ephemeris even if the signal is too low to download the ephemeris from the satellite)

- And of course at startup it doesn't need to wait for 3 (or 4?) satellites' ephemeris to be completely downloaded, this is why TTFF (time to first fix) is faster with this feature

Note: Newer GPS firmwares already help a bit getting faster fix, because according to the release notes they don't need a satellite to have a strong enough signal for the complete time it takes to download it's ephemeris, but it can partially download the ephemeris and then only needs the rest of it the next time the satellite sends it

So far it seems noone has ever seen the "ephdata.clm" on the T830, and thus we can be reasonably sure that they did not really use the sirfinstantfix feature. Also it can not work with COM6, so people using COM6 can't be getting this working either...

I have kinda given up, and resorted to the following "workaround"... you may call it "Manually assisted SirfInstantFix" ;)

- Only use COM6 directly (SirfDemoPPC doesn't seem to work with the intermediate / virtual driver)

- Manually download packedEphemeris.ee

- Start SirfDemoPPC

- set the chip to Sirf mode

- Load the .ee file

- do a warm start of the GPS

- when the display turns blue again (=sees at least one sattelite) do a hot start of the GPS

- wait until the fix is there (usually < 10 seconds), and some more time until some more satellites show up as purple (using calculated ephemeris) or green (using downloaded ephemeris)

- switch back to NMEA mode

- Exit SirfDemoPPC

- start the GPS software

Yes, it's not automated at all :(, but for me still gives easier/faster fix, especiall when you are moving.

Hi,
Can you check out this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=328810&page=11

Especially this part :

Quote "When the device boots, the GPS Intermediate Driver\ActiveDevice\@Flags registry value is read (note @ denotes a DWORD value rather than a key), and if the driver is to be loaded, the GPSID.dll file is loaded based on the values in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\GPSID]. This key also didn't exist in my registry.

Once the device is booted, it is possible to check whether the GPS Int. Drv. has been loaded by searching for GPSID under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Active]. If loaded, there should be settings such as:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Active\45]
"Hnd"=dword:004D59D0
"Name"="GPD0:"
"Key"="Drivers\\BuiltIn\\GPSID"
"BusParent"=dword:00032160
"InterfaceType"=dword:00000000
"BusName"="BuiltInPhase1_0_25_0"

(There is no need to add the above settings, as these are set dynamically when the driver is loaded from [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\GPSID]).

End Quote "

Maybe there is some hint's in it. Seems that the GPD doesn't load at all.

thanks.

Hmmm... seems that I got some progress:

On the MIO a701 there seems to be an EXE version of this dll, called clmapp.exe. It seems that when you use the standard FSC WM5 ROM's GPS device sharing (hardware port = com6 / 57600 baud, software port = com4), copy that file to \windows, and run it.... something fascinating happens:

- The GPS LED lights up
- COM6 is now in use
- \windows\packedEphemeris.ee disappears (I downloaded it to there earlier)
- and the file ephdata.clm appears in \windows

Kinda like what I would expect to happen if this quickgps /sirfinstantfix really works.

Uhm, I guess I'm off testing this a bit and post the results :)

I am still a bit sceptic, but so far it seems I got SirfInstantFix (SIF) to work on my T830, at least in NMEA mode (which is the most important anyway). I will have to test quite a bit more to be convinced. Especially I want to see by logging the serial communication data if I can find a 100% proof that really the extended ephemeris data from the downloaded file is used.

So long here is the way how to set up, in case you guys want to test as well:

- Use a SIF capable firmware like the 3.5.0

- Make sure date, time and time zone are set correctly

- Set up the GPS settings to use software port 4, hardware port 6, and the correct baud rate (for the GPS Firmware 3.5.0 I linked in the firmware flash post it's 57600 baud for example)

- Get the extended ephemeris data from http://htcscm13.htc.com.tw/clm/packedEphemeris.ee and copy it to \windows on the T830

- Make sure the GPS chip is in NMEA mode, 57600 Baud

- copy the attached clmapp.exe to the T830 (doesn't matter where it is) and run it, the GPS LED should start to flash

Now when any GPS application accesses the GPS over COM4, it should get the benefits of SIF.

I tested like this so far: Using SirfTech I do
- NMEA
- Navigation Initialization
- Warm Start (No Init)
-Set

This should clear the stored ephemeris data, just like it would be invalid after not using the GPS for some hours.

Now without the clmapp.exe it takes me around 40 seconds to a minute to get a fix. With it running, it is down to sometime as little as 7 seconds, plus I see many more satellites in the beginning.

To disable the clmapp.exe you have to end the process, for example with ITaskMgr.

Well, I'm off testing more... let's see if this is REALLY working.

Good Luck, and I REALLY hope this works :)

Edit: forgot attachment, added

OK Guys, it's official (and I already celebrated with a few great Belgian beers here in Taiwan): now, finally, SirfInstantFix/AGPS over Internet/QuickGPS is REALLY and 100% sure working on the T830.

I recorded the serial communication with and without the clmapp.exe. With it I can finally see the "Extended Ephimeris Acknowledge" Message $PSRF154 from the firmware, which means it successfull received stuff from the extended ephimeris it requested. Without it... well... no

Now the only open "issue" is how to make clmapp.exe load every time the virtual COM port is opened, and terminated once it's closed. I had a look through the MIO a701 registry, but I couldn't find any setting that refers to clmapp.exe :(

So if anyone knows how to get this working, let me know :)

I plan to write a easy description what steps to do, and put together a cab file for easy install (also including the app that automatically downloads new data each time there is a internet connection)... stay tuned :)

After some experimenting with clmapp.exe, here are some updates and ifos for those who also want to try:

- Yes it works GREAT. I love it :D

- Keep in mind that you need a new GPS firmware, and can NOT go back to the original one, unless someone finds a way to extract it from a unaltered T830

- Does not work in SiRF binary mode, only in NMEA mode. But of course you can get the fix in NMEA mode first, and then switch to SiRF binary. By the way, SiRFDemoPPC's similar feature only works in SiRF mode, not NMEA mode.

- It seems you have to kill the clmapp.exe thread before turning off (suspend) the phone, else it will hang up and block the GPS com ports, both the virtual and the hardware port, as well as generally lagging the phone

- I am not sure yet if the "standard" files that FSC's QuickGPS or SeaSGEE download (these apps claim the data is good for oinly 3 days) really work well... but need to do more testing. Anyway, I think you can make them download the 7 day versions instead anyway :)

So if anyone has an idea how to at least automatically kill that process when you press the "off" key to shut down / go to sleep, let me know...

Hi, I’m using acubens Rom 6.1 and clmapp.exe doesn’t even start on my device.
Maybe is from GPSID.dll since I’m using a different rom. And it doesn’t even load as I can’t see it under HKLM/Drivers/active. So problems here loading GPD and I can’t seem to work it out. Can you please post the original GPSID.dll. Tanks

By the way, I’m using 3.2.4 GPS firmware.

Update:
Just deleted the GPSID.dll from windows and it was created again and now clmaapp is working. i can now see the extracted ephdata with 84,0K and the GPD driver finally load's in HKLM/Drivers/active. :)

That would be great! I think together we can really create a WORKING and convenient QuickGPS solution for the T830 :)

- I am not sure yet if the "standard" files that FSC's QuickGPS or SeaSGEE download (these apps claim the data is good for oinly 3 days) really work well... but need to do more testing. Anyway, I think you can make them download the 7 day versions instead anyway :)

OK, I just compared the file that the FSC QuickGPS downloads to the file that I normally use from HTC Taiwan, and it's identical. So we can really use the "QuickGPS" update tool from the N560.

Open issues to get a convenient solution for "everyone":

- How to update the .ee file every time the device has Internet over ActiveSync? The original N560 installation has a service that does it, but at least without modifications doesn't seem to work on T830. I am checking.

- How to run CLMApp.exe every time the virtual com port is opened ? No Idea so far... But it should be not too much of an issue to just click the icon before you start your GPS app. So not much of an issue, mor a "nice to have" feature.

- How to automatically kill CLMApp.exe as soon as the virtual COM is closed? No Idea. Killing with a task manager is too much of a hassle to be convenient, but there must be some tools (mortscript?) out there that can help with at least getting an icon to click that kills the CLMApp.exe.

- How to automatically kill CLMApp.exe as soon as the device is turned off? Jussi77 might be able to help :)

I wrote a little utility (Autolock) which invokes WM built-in keyboard lock feature when device is going to sleep (ie. pressing power button), I can modify that app and post sources + compiled binary here,

Sounds GREAT! Maybe I can even find out how to modify the source code to create solutions the other three tasks mentioned above :) I am quite bad at writing software from scratch, but changing existing stuff normally I'm good with :D So any help you are willing to offer will be highly appreciated.

Actually, this whole thing here might be interesting not only to T830 users, but also to other SiRFstarIII enabled PDAs or even unlocked PNAs? Let's see :)

GREAT to know it works under WM6 as well! So... did you do any tests yet if it can improve the time to first fix (TTFF) speed? I normally do that in SirfTech in NMEA mode, by using the "Warm Start (No Init)" to clear all downloaded ephemeris data and then see how long it takes to get a fix again... I just want to make sure I am not the only one convinced that this works. There seem to have been too many cases of "placebo" effects with quickfix solutions for GPS...

PS: Let's see if we can get SirfInstantFixII to work as well, maybe we can make the T830 the first device that has both, and can chose :D

Haven’t tested yet but I’m pretty convinced it work’s. I’ll post as soon as I test.

Here’s a MortScript that can could be of some use:

Switch (question ( "Execute ClmApp before running R66?", "R66 Launcher", "YesNoCancel" ))
case (1)
Run( "\Storage Card\CLMApp.exe" )
Runwait( "\Storage Card\Route66\R66 M8.exe" )
Kill ( "\Storage Card\CLMApp.exe" )
case (0)
Run( "\Storage Card\Route66\R66 M8.exe" )
case (2)
EndSwitch

Bye.

Runwait( "\Storage Card\Route66\R66 M8.exe" )
Kill ( "\Storage Card\CLMApp.exe" )

Thanks for those Mortscript suggestions, it helped me automating the process of the clmapp.exe for my T830. By launching CLMApp.exe before launching the navigation software, also, in most cases, the GPS fix is already there by the time the software finished loading. Great :) So at least for me this "quick gps" solution is completely useable already, with only two minor issues remaining:

- clmapp.exe should be killed before shutting down the T830, if it is for some reason it's still running. Hopefully Jussi77 can help here.

- The packedephemeris.ee should be downloaded automatically each time there is an activesync connection. I didn't spent much time yet trying to get the whole FSC/HTC QuickFix program to work, though, maybe it's possible to get it working on the T830 as well...

Also, to avoid launching clmapp.exe more than one time, I use the following:

if (ProcExists("CLMApp.exe")=0)
Run("\SD-MMCard\CLMApp.exe")
endif

No i don't found latest version of XIP, but to rebuild beta X with your keyboard try this:

unrar http://ptitepouche.free.fr/T830/romcooking/T830DevKitchen.rar in your C:

copy powerbyte beta X MDOC.DIO in c:\T830dev\ROM\

start dumpROM.bat wait, then minimize when "package tool" appear.

unrar your German Kbd driver : DL link (http://ptitepouche.free.fr/T830/romcooking/T830_kb_drivers/)
and copy the 3 folders (kbdhid.dll ; keybdsip.dll ; Keybddr.dll) into the c:\T830dev\TEMP\dump\ directory.

Go back on package tool: file > open > C:\T830Dev\TEMP\dump .
Then tools > build packages, and close program.

the dumpROM.bat will close automatically and now you have a SYS and OEM directories in c:\t830dev\

run createROM.bat to build the rom and flash your ppc.

Good luck !;)

If i have spare time, i will write a full tutorial to translate WM6 interface and keyboard driver for the T830.

Hi 33import,

merci for that description. I saw the files on your website, but couldn't figure out how to use them... the "keeping package tool running and then copy the DLLs" was the part I didn't figure out :)

By the way: It seems that you need the .net framework to get the package tool in the kitchen running

Haha your english is perfect, don't worry :) I was having problems to understand what to do BEFORE you posted your description. I just found the files on your website by browsing and played around abit... But after i read your post it was clear what to do.

I changed the keyboard driver to German, works perfectly so far. The on-screen keyboard is still english, but that's perfect because my Girlfriend (who will also use the device) is used to only english Keyboard anyway.

If I have time tonight I'll upload the modified ROM somewhere... as "PowerByte Beta X German HW Keyboard"

Regarding the XIP: I tried building the new ROM with both the XIP included in the Kitchen from your download, as well as the XIP extracted with the modified batch file. I didn't notice any differences, though. But then, I am a total N00b to ROM cooking, so I probably wouldn't even know what differences to look for :D

If this is just the unchanged CAB from N5xx, then no, it won't work on T830, even with new firmware:

The "SIF" process that provides the extended ephemeris data to the GPS chip on N5xx is using a modified GPS intermediate driver (gpsid.dll). On T8xx I didn't (yet?) get this driver to work, it will not load.

Since there are many different WM6.x releases, it would probably help if you could tell exactly which one you are using. The "latest beta" unfortunately is not precise enough to know what you are using. For example you could try giving the number of the post you got it from, then people using the same software can check if they see this behaviour.

Also, there is one FINAL from PowerByte, which is newer than the Beta X. Plus you can chose which hardware keyboard to use, and can chose some other customization stuff. You have to build the ROM yourself, however:

PS: Let's see if we can get SirfInstantFixII to work as well, maybe we can make the T830 the first device that has both, and can chose :D

Small update from the T830 GPS front:

After being VERY happy with Firmware 3.5.0 and SirfInstantFix 1 (SIF1) by clmapp.exe, I accidently stumbled upon a software package for SirfInstantFix 2 (SIF2). The release notes make my mouth water:

SiRFInstantFixII™ satellite prediction software improves GPS fix times without the need for network connectivity. With one observation of each satellite, SiRFInstantFixII accurately predicts satellite positions for up to three days—removing the need to download satellite ephemeris data at subsequent start-ups.

SiRFInstantFixII (3 days satellite prediction) works best for users who turn on their device many times each day. For other users, the InstantFix 2.2 software also provides support for the classic SiRFInstantFix (7 days satellite prediction). The classic SiRFInstantFix requires occasional network connectivity to download ephemeris data. InstantFix 2.2 automatically determines which prediction data is best to use.

So, the automatic ephemeris calculation for a few days AND the 7 day files downloaded from the internet can be used at the same time. Cool :)

I didn't try much yet... it's some DLL files, and I didn't yet figure out how to get them to work. Maybe it also needs some other software that is installed with the firmware 3.5.0 package for the "CN3" pocket PC device it is meant for...

If anyone wants to try, the file is attached. The file is an exe that needs a new .NET compact framework to run on your device... but you can instead just unpack it with Winzip and look into the XML file regarding how to rename the files, where to copy them, and what to add to the registry.

Also, there is one FINAL from PowerByte, which is newer than the Beta X. Plus you can chose which hardware keyboard to use, and can chose some other customization stuff. You have to build the ROM yourself, however:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3429403&postcount=1301

Why didn't you take this version for your german built?

What is a "kitchen version"?

In the final you can select the GErman keyboard driver during build, as far as I remember. So no need for building a German Keyboard version.

As far as I understand a Kitchen version means you don't get the complete ROM, but a set of files and tools that allow you to build a ROM. Often, during the build process, you can also select what should be included and what should be left out of the ROM.

Did you try this yet? Russian language is not possible with this ROM though.

simple replacement of renaming files does not help, the support of Russian is limited, whereas localization askew worked ... until I use the English version PowerByte Beta X.. as to the Russian part of the programs (Microsoft office) and the camera in video mode does not work .. and so there was such a problem .. well as in the rest of firmware wonderful .. Hi yellowfever,

I have just installed the SirfInstantFix2 "Update" on my T810. At first I tried the installer and it failed for obvious reasons - it couldn't find some files, that it was expecting, I guess.
After the Installer bailed out, I found the extraced InstantSirfFix2 on my device nevertheless. I opened it and it was just a regular installer that asked me where I wanted the SirfInstantFix2 to be installed. I chose Device and a couple of seconds later I had a working CLMapp.exe! :)

I got outside imemdiately and got a fix within seconds. I will do some more testing, but it seems to have done the trick.

Cheers

Edit: The one major drawback of this is that now, my TomTom doesn't recognize my internal GPS anymore. Before TomTom used the Bluetooth GPS option which would somehow connect to Port 9 and receive the GPS information, but that doesn't work anymore. What is really interesting is, that if I choose "Other NMEA receiver" I am getting the GPS coordinates, but no Satellites, so TomTom constantly thinks that it has no valid connection and thus won't turn the routing on.

Edit/2: Well, everythings ok now. Turned out that for some reason the Wireless Manager switched off all connections, such as that TomTom refused to track anything and displayed it's "Airplane mode" message. After switching all connections to on in the Wireless Manager, TomTom picked up the new connection. TomTom now seems to get a Fix as fast as GPS Locator, while not showing any Satellites at all - but who cares anyway?

Hmmm... the SIF2 should not be using CLMAPP.exe... as far as I can tell from the files it should be working differently. The clmapp.exe comes from a MIO 700 phone, and I have not seen it mentioned or used in any other device. Since GPS performance is quite hard to judge without doing some dedicated tests, I would be very sceptical about just installing this stuff enabling SIF2 already... this would be too much luck to be true in my opinion :)

One thing you could check is if there is a file called ephdata.clm in the windows directory. If it is there, delete it (or rename it if you are more comfortable with that). It should be automatically re-created by whatever SIF solution is used.

As far as I understand and guess:

If it is SIF1, this file should be created ONLY after you (or some tool) downloaded a packedEphemeris.ee file and place it in the windows directory. Then, as soon as the SIF solution (however it is implemented) is started, the .ee file will be deleted and the .clm file will appear.

If it is SIF2, the .clm file should be created even if no .ee file is in the windows directory.

One simple to check indicator that SIF is really active, is that for example in the GPSLocator all found satellites turn green within a few seconds. Without SIF, typically only a few turn green, while some (weaker ones) stay yellow.

TomTom now seems to get a Fix as fast as GPS Locator, while not showing any Satellites at all - but who cares anyway?

I remember reading about problems with "not showing satellites" on some devices and with some navi software. As far as I recall it is the GPS being set to not send a certain type of message, which includes the satellite info. Some (navi?) software seems to modify the types of NMEA messages the GPS sends...

Maybe check with sirftech (NMEA -> Set message rate) which messages are actually sent. Just wait a few seconds and see at which lines timea appear. At my system for example it is GGA, GSA, GSV and RMC.

Someone did that once, but claimed that with WM6.5 too little resources would be free, and never made this version public. Apart from this, I am not aware of any attempt at WM6.5 for T8xx.

I have checked this today and renamed the ephdata.clm on my device. Then I fired up GPS Locator which needed its usual 10th of seconds to get a GPS fix.

Then I started CLMApp and it created a new ephdata.clm file along the one I renamed. So it seems to me that this must be SIF2 since it stated that SIF2's big advantage would be that the satellite data would be somehow calculated in advance and be stored in that ephdata.clm file, no?

Now I will make another check and get a MD5 hash of ephdata.clm and compare that one to future fingerprints. As far as I understand SIF1, the file wouldn't change, but SIF2 would update the ephdata.clm as soon as it gets new satellite data.

What OS are you running on your T830? The original WM5 or one of the newer WM6.1 ones?

If you're running WM6.1, your OS will be english and you'll have to go to the system settings -> Regional Settings. There you can change the overall regional settings.

Hope that helps

What other 2 problems? The keyboard layout can't be changed, since your image is likely missing the german keyboard driver.

I do have two images downloaded, that either is english with a german keybord driver, or is german altogether - I haven't tried them yet.

I don't know about midlets, since I don't need Java on my phone, so maybe someone else can comment on this?

Well, the dead giveaway that it's only SIF1 should be that this CLMApp comes from a SIF1 phone, and is older than SIF2 ^^

As far as I know till now, also SIF1 updates the ephdata.clm file with the newest ephemeris that was downloaded from the satellites. So yes, also with SIF1 the ephdata.clm will change all the time, even if no new data is downloaded from the internet in the meanwhile. So most probably this is not a way to distinguish SIF1 from SIF2.

SIF2's difference to SIF1 is that it can update the data even a few days (3 or so) after the last time ephemeris data was downloaded from the satellites, and without need for packedEphemeris.ee files from the internet. I have no idea how this shows up in the ephdata.clm in real life, though.

Honestly, I am not sure how to 100% sure distinguish SIF1 from SIF2 on a T830, since I never had SIF2 running anywhere, and also have not seen any descriptions yet by someone who has it running for sure. So right now I am only commenting from my experience with SIF1...

Easiest way to finmd out if you have SIF 2 probably is to never use the internet download of packedEphemeris.ee, and see if you ever have the fast TTF all the time ;)

Apart from that, no idea... I'll check the documentation again and try to see anything that is present only in SIF2, not SIF1... that would tell best...

chaoto
29th June 2009, 09:16 AM
Ok, so it must have downloaded the latest packedEphemeris.ee without me noticing it then. I even think that my T810 didn't had an internet connection then, since I had trouble setting up WiFi successfully, but I can't actually remember when exactly I got WiFi to work.

I don't have any SIM card in my T810 so the only way would be over WiFi. I will check that once again, whith WiFi turned off. ;)

Well… and even it it happens to turn out that it's only SIF1, that's of course way better than no SIF- ;)

obsolete post

chaoto
2nd July 2009, 03:24 PM
So, today I tried this:

- removed every packedEphemeris.ee frommy device - there had been one still present in the MY Documents folder
- erased the ephdata.clm file
- rebootet the Loox
- switched to flight mode
- went outside and fired up CLMApp and waited
- first the newly created ephdata.clm was 0k
- after the GPS established a fix about 45 sec later, the ephdata.clm began to change

So, where, if not directly from the satellites themselves, should have CLMApp (or maybe the GPS FW itself) gathered the data from?

I just also made an MD5 check on both files:

MD5 (ephdata.clm) = 3e1f33692888f4c36e58823bab9c73cf
MD5 (ephdata27.clm) = 27316a660eea9b39257c95a0f244741d

So the elphdata.clm has really been crafted all by the FW/CLMapp. The only odd thing is, that it seems that I need to run CLMapp to do this, since the elphdata.clm appears not when using the GPS on its own.

Cheers

yellowfever
8th July 2009, 07:48 AM
Sure, as I wrote below, CLMApp will create a ephdata.clm and update it with the satellite data - even if no packedEphemeris.ee is downloaded or present.

And 2 general things: For sure the GPS firmware can not do anything on your device except communicate over the COM port. So whatever happens with files on your device is done by software running on it.

And if the aim of restarting the Loox was to "clear" the GPS data, then this won't work. The GPS chip gets powered as long as the battery is in. So it will keep all data it knows (Almanach and Ephemeris) as long as the battery is in, or until some software tells it to forget those (for example SirfTech doing a "warm" restart).

Oh, no, it works fine, I meant upgrading the GPS firmware from the original version 3.1.1 to version 3.5.0, (just to make it even better..)
It was discussed few pages ago. I tried to follow the instructions and do it with my pda, but found it was too difficult for me.. :o

Hello!
I have a problem with the firmware. I managed to put Beta X from #1094 on my T830 without a cradle (by copying the .dio file on the SD card and hard-resetting the device). Now I want to put the firmware from #1301 on it, but in that post it is stated that downgrading to the original firmware is necessary before upgrading, due to a flash bug. I copied the original image, but when I hard reset the device, it still has wm 6.1 on it. How can I downgrade without the cradle? What am I missing?

So, if anybody has got it done, please explain the process step by step, otherwise I am afraid I will again fail.. And I don't have the cradle..

Oh, no cradle.... hmmm... Basically you would need to combine this step-by-step guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3646170&postcount=1348

with this tipp from someone else, which uses no cradle:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1888017&postcount=86

Try this, and if you don't succeed, please tell exactly at which step you have problems.

Edit: Reading my old posts I realized that probably I should write a new guide, with all the info in one place. I already did that for the German section here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3800326&postcount=122), but the English speaking users I guess still have to look around a bit... At least I now added the necessary links to the GPS firmware post, so that should make it easier. In the next days I hope I can do the updated description... but too busy right now - sorry guys!

Is there also a solution for video recording?

The camera works, but the recording doesn't.
It can only be a question of the registration of the video cameras, doesn't it?

Is somebody able to make a "diff" between the registries of the original fw and the new one?
I'm sure there is anything to be corrected concerning the video recording application.

T830 WM6.xx's camera does not correctly handle focus (when taking pictures from objects closer than 1 meter). Factory WM5 rom handles it correctly (pressing camera button half-way focuses and picture is taken correctly). I tried copying relevant registry keys (camera and hw button mappings) and while camera key began working, focus is still lost when picture is taken.

Workaround is to take pictures in burst mode and setting registry key picsinburstmode to 1. This way focusing works ok :)

I think it has to do with camera driver (camera.dll and camera1.dll) - could someone extract those from factory rom and test further..?

There are some problems with the bluetooth which are inherited from the original WM5 rom. For instance, the ringing tone is not redirected to the bluetooth handsfree, as it is in WM6 mobile phones like HTC.
And also, Microsoft Voice Command doesn't announce incoming text messages emails. Is this somehow related to the bluetooth stack?

When u try flashing through SD card, it verifies IMAGE file, but when it is suppose th start flashing, that shuld last for 30 minuts, after verifiing the rom it justruns through FLASHING in 30 secs, and says Flash Update Done, but nothing has changed...

Where is no working ROM on it now, and the PDA is useless until i get some OS on it..
i start it in Flash mode, and it says
"Previous update fail.
Please re-flash the image."

I tried using WM5 and 6 roms, and its GER ROM that is suppouse to work, but it just cant flash...

Any ideas ? PLs help if you can

Hello,

try SD card flashing method, but don't use SDHC card but normal (<2GB).
Do a fresh full format of SD card in Windows, use FAT16 partition and copy ROM image to it.

Remove a battery from the device for a 24 hours.

Then put battery back to device and attach a power charger. Press and hold all 3 buttons (camera/power/reset) to initiate a SD card ROM flash program.

Wait until it finished. Then make a hard reset (hold power/reset until special menu show) and choose "factory default". Hopefully it will boot new image.

I wish you luck.

Hi,
I haven`t been here for a months ... coz i`ve bought nokia xD yep... but recently i came back to my t830 and what i`ve found is that i cannot talk by headphones. The built-in mic is mute... In nokia there`s no problem because the phone asks me when i`m connecting other thing than firmware headset, what I`ve connected... and here`s my question is there any solution to talk by headphones and built-in mic?`i`ve searched registry without results...

P.S.
I`ve stopped developing wm6 on FSC coz I`m studying on absorbing specialization... but maybe i`ll came back to this someday...so don`t ask anymore bout my rom...

ummm....... I've rollbacked to wm5 and found the fsc sim toolkit app
(tkitappoem.exe). I can't test it now because I've rollbacked from the powerbyte rom to the original fsc wm5. Can anyone try attached exe on the powerbyte rom ?
Even in the Acubens Rom the sim toolkit don't work. :(

Thanks.

First of all thanks to all, who participate in developing of wm6 for this device (especially thanks to powerbyte and acubens)! Shame to FSC :)
I flashed my device with powerbyies BetaX without any problems (by method with 2GB SD card). Device started with wm6.1 and all was OK. I was very glad, because at last my T830 works in unbelievable speed :D I tested wm6.1 ~2 days : recognizing 4GB SDHC, overclocking, task manager, wincommander and e.t.c. - all was wonderfull! But.... There was 5 main reasons why I flash back to wm5:
1) not working cameras hardware button (I can take pictures only by pressing central button without half-pressing and without focusing...)
2) not working video capture (may be I could not found it)
3) not working video call - second camera stays needless...
4) I could not dial number by hardware buttons - must press FN button before every digit :(
5) not working BT high quality audio... I trying 3 different BT devices (TEAC HP-4BT, Hama BT headphones and AirLive stereo BT receiver) - without results... All theese devices working fine on wm5.

With first four disadvantages may be I survive, but without music - never... ;)
That's it, why I revert to wm5... :(
May be I couldn't found something - tell me please!
Thanks.

Holla

I used for a lot of time the acubens ROM (post 749). To take it step by step:

1) auto - focus works in "burst" mode but not in normal mode.
2) video works in acubens mode
3) video call - not working
4) in wm6 the good point is that you have the smartdialing - very useful for dialing contants directly from phone app. However in order to input numbers just double press FN key and you will dial numbers easily. To switch back to "letters" double press FN again
5) I did not use.

If you did not use Acubens ROM I'd say to give it a chance. I can not guarantee for point 5 however (I connected it to bluetooth headset but only for phone calls).

Regards,

Robert

I am facing strange issue with my T830. I am using Beta X currently, but I think I had this problem before with other firmwares too. Few days ago my T830 did not ring alarm when needed, and when I tried to turn on screen, it did not work. I could not turn it on or off with button, so I removed battery for few seconds. When turned back on I noticed that it "forgot" what time and date it was and I had to set that again.
Even more strange thing is that now I cannot use alarms anymore. Alarms now always ring on same time than before "crash" REGARDLESS OF WHAT I SET. So I can even disable alarms or change their time, but device ignores that and always rings like before. Settings in alarms screen are simply IGNORED. Anyone experienced anything like that??

P.S.: I arrived too late at work because of that!
I am beginning to hate T830. :D

I've the same bug with my HTC diamond, it's a known issue on WM6.1, the clock freeze/is not updated when the phone is in 'sleep mode', screen off. So the alarm doesn't start. When i installed G-Alarm, i can patch this issue, and have a correct clock update.

Ok, but is it normal that whole device freezes and i must reset it with button next to battery? And when restarted it forgets time and date (it shows 1. dec 2006 0:00)? Then it ignores everything i set under alarms screen. For me it looks more serious problem than just "clock not updating" when screen is off.

I know that doing that would help. As I mentioned I've run into that problem few times before and reflashing helped. But after a while (lets say after few months) these problems rise again.

Don't waste your time. FSC (now renamed Fujitsu, by the way) long ago stopped their Loox PDA series, and so there is not even the slightest chance that anyone on their side would invest any time or money in a new OS for T830.

By the way, this sounds extremely similar to the same problems as on many WM5 devices, including the "original" FSC T830 ROM. After a few months I would always have to hard reset and configure it new because of such issues with alarms...

And of course, whenever you remove the battery, it will lose time and date (plus all stored GPS almanach data of course, causing GPS to need very long for first fix)

Hi guys,

First ty for the good work!, keep going

I actualy use the 33imporT-BetaXfr666 rom (only full french 6.1 rom around). It work pretty well except 1 fondamental thing, the phone don't ring anymore when incoming call, neither vibrate, so imagine how many call i missed =(.

Of course i tried everything about switching, changing, testing ring tone, BT only ringing etc...but nothing to do. Any idea if there is a missing registry setting anywhere to check?

Ty help appreciated!

PS: Ring work well with other rom, so it's not a hardware problem :/
