View Full Version : QuickGPS vs SeaSGEE

I've been using SeaSGEE instead of quickGPS for a few days - the GPS fix is now within seconds whereas on QuickGPS it could be minutes - in fact I just don't think QuickGPS had any effect at all on GPS performance!

One question though - SeasGEE has an option to automatically update, but I can't see anywhere in startup or similar that would be doing something automatic, and SeasGEE is basically running straight from its EXE - I don't have an installer that might have made some reg mods or something... and with all the new ROMS around, I haven't had one on long enough without a hard reset to know if the automatic update works! Any suggestions or info?

I think u're right. I'm using the B&B 4.2 for now, and it's really a good rom. I got a fix gps within 10 seconds if I let the A-GPS connecting to Orange server, but if I just use QuickGps, my fix is as long as on my P3600...
On my phone, in France, QuickGps is like a placebo  it doesn't help to get a fix quicker.

Then I'm going to try with SeaSGEE, and I'll report.

Edit : I just tried SeaSGEE, and there is no change, fix still long. But A-GPS orange rocks.

Does that make my TomTom find GPS faster ?

In theory, yes.
In fact, it doesn't on my M650, rom BB 4.2. However, A-GPS from M650 helps to find the fix within 10 seconds.

SeaSGEE rocks for me... now i have a fix in seconds, and even while i'm driving it has a fix in seconds, where before it was a pain to get a fix while driving!

SeaSGEE is working very well for me as well; significantly better than QuickGPS ever did. For some reason QuickGPS started failing on downloads so I decided to give SeaSGEE a try and boy am I happy I did.

Using a HTC branded Artemis.

So easy, copy the exe to your device, go to the folder, select SeasGEE.exe and copy. Paste shortcut. Cut shortcut and paste in folder \windows\startmenu\programs\

Then go to htc home, tab programs and select a free button, then select SeasGEE!

Hi all,
I tried again today, with nice weather, only sun :)

And... I got a fix in 30 seconds... With A-gps Orange, when it's raining, I got a fix in 10 seconds.

So, do you think SeaSGEE doesnt work as well because I got a SPV M650 (running on BB 4.2) ?

I think the accuracy of the ephemeridis depends on the country you're in. That's why in France QuickGPS and SeaSGEE do not work (and i've got a P3300).

Hum then... Are you using QuickGPS or GPSRapide ? I suspect there is a difference between both of them, on the files they download. I use QuickGPS with B&B 4.2, and the first fix takes more like a minute than 10 seconds...

for me SeaSGEE works really good,

Does SeaSGEE have to be installed on the \Windows folder or it can be installed on the storage card?

I have it installed on the Storage Card - and works fine for me...!

but then how do I know it's not just the QuickGPS doing the work? Because that too updates automatically everytime I connect via activesync....

Where does it save the Downloaded file?

Didn't test B&B 4.2, but in my point of view, quickgps or anything else make the same job : download the ephemeride, the only difference is where... and differents places are differents quality...

I've tried a fix few months ago who change the genuine location of quickgps (because htc server were down) and replace with another location, search and try 'QuickGPSFix.arm.CAB' file is this forum...

And how do i do that?

The TomTom came with on storage card and now i use other, the DVD does not have a option to "install" from it...
What i did before flashing was saving the folder Navigator to storage card and then copy to \Windows.

Maybe something very simple is missing me, the problem is that i dont know what...

Thanks for helping.

I recon - at times it can also be a hardware thingy....

many people with the same hardware tend to get fantastic connections at the same time others take longer....have seen many people tak aout this...

In my office 3 people have the same phone XDA Orbit - (all settings, software, updates same as mine - I know coz' I did it for them) - when we compare speed of GPS connectivity after an immediate download of the GPS update files - I seem to get it faster than anyone....much faster...

Am I just plain lucky? maybe who knows?

Just a thought - that we may just be looking into a corner that may not exist.

I htink you're partly right... I can put 2 Orbits next to each other on the desk with the same seasgee downlaod, and one is faster getting a fix than the other... but both are significantly faster than with QuickGPS, which has no noticable effect ofn fix time at all.

I wonder if the ephidermis.ee is country-specific, which would explain why the quickgps on a cooked rom is not as fast as a local operator released vesion, and why on this thread, French users say it has no effect, but UK users seem to be faster using seasgee?

SeasGEE - There is an option in it to update automatically and also to put a reminder in Calender if needed -

I never got around to getting it updated automatically as I manually make it a point to upgrade when I sync with my laptop. I know quickGPS updates automatically when you connect activesync.

Will keep it pending and see if it updates automatically and revert back.

It probably reads the date on the file and fires an update - maybe connectes to GPRS or something...

can only say when mine is about to expire...i have set it to update automatically and will wait for it to expire and then see what happens !

Nope! Checked mine, siad it was due to expire in 4 mins, so I rebooted to make sure that I hadn't left anything running by loading the app... and waited. Just checked again, it says it's expired, but no auto update despite box being checked. I think we need an installer! I'm sure there are some bits missing!

BTW, still get a fix indoors in <10secs, despite file having expired...

Installed the cab from the link above then rebooted. Fix in 6 secs indoors.

Put my clock forward 3 days, waited a couple of minutes and checked - it had updated itself OK... fix still 6 secs.

Clock back to normal now...

So.. you need to install the CAB file to get the automatic updating to work.

Changing the date wont affect the GPS as it always uses its own internal clock which is taken from teh atomic clock on the sattelite. The internal clock is too inaccurate to work.

But it does affect when seasgee decides to downlaod the update...

I didn't look at that, but it definitely automatically updated when I forced my system clock forward, and just running the executable didn't...??
Looked at the CAB, and it does seem to simply install the exe in Windows and create a shortcut, you're right... so I can't explain how the 'installed' version auto updates while the 'run' version doesn't...

After a full hard reset and fddling around !

Place the SeaSGEE.exe file in your windows folder and a shortcut in programs/start menu folder - once the date passes on - it upgrades...

I did it this way and worked fine.

now to get my orbit back to its position

...which is what the CAB installer does automatically.

Thats true...but I have my own cab nearly 20MB which I install after a flash/hard reset - which applies all my tweaks and also installs all my programs in their respective places (storage card mostly)..that way I dont have to install more than 2-3 cabs at most....else I would have to install 15-20 cabs one after the other....

Now that I included thin in my CAB to install in the windows folder - it's working fine.

Nice idea... wish I knew/could be bothered to find out how to do it! Maybe I'll take a look at one and work it out.

By the way, just found FunContacts from Vito - like PocketCM but MUCH better, more useable and without the dodgy SMS bit... worth a look.

Question - early in this thread there's an EXE file, and a few pages later there is a link to a CAB file. People are saying to use the CAB file, but it appears to be a completely different program than the initial EXE posted. What should I be using?

Of course, this question is completely moot if this doesn't apply to the Kaiser/Tilt...

Hello all. I have posted my question in another forum here, but I want help.

I have downloaded SeaSgee and it worked perfectly - when I connect my phone to synchronize it I have internet and it downloaded the ephemezis file.

Now I have internet on the phone, but when I click on download button in SeaSgee it shows me an error:

Error : Send error!

What might be the problem? Please give me an answer. I really like the program, but now I cannot use it...

Thank you!
