View Full Version : OKAY, Whats the BEST CASE on the market??

For me it came down to Piel Frama and Noreve, and for two reasons I went with Noreve.
1. I had a case from them for my Creative ZEN, and the thing was just as tough as it was gorgeous. Perfect fit, although the clip was a little annoying, everything else worked flawlessly.
2. The Piel Frama has a cover over the Keyboard... I type entirely too much to deal with that.
im trying to decide between these two as well (thanks for pointing out the plastic cover over the keyboard on the Piel Frama one)..
the big plus for the piel frama one (asside from holding id/credit card) is that is also appears to hold a stylus that can be removed from the right (instead of the left - rediculous for a right handed user)..
does the noreve have a spot to hold credit cards / id, and does it have the extra stylus holder?

thanks to anyone who can field these questions :)

I seem to have a issue with these 'clip" on belt type belt case. I seem to worry that they will fall of. I know the belt loop type are great as this ensures they cannot fall of.But you need to remove the phone from the case etc.I am using the supplied case...and i dont feel secure with it.
Is there such a case that has a belt loop type frame with a clip on piece to remove the case
Not sure if i have explained this well ? !!

- the clip isn't really to be thrusted since you might think sometimes it's clipped though it isn't... embarassing
- the real turn off : it fits the phone too well !? it's a real pain in the *** to take it off !! It took me more than one hour and I was really concernend by the risks of damaging my phone. On a daily basis you might need to remove it off (changing batteries, removing cover to slide the phone in a holder) and this case forbids it
Bottomline : don't use this product.
Sounds EXACTLY like the Active Case from Boxwave.

Well, looks like Seidio officially beat Boxwave to the Slim Rubberized punch, and I'm throwing in with them. You've probably all seen the new thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=352605), so I'm officially unsubscribed from this one.
Best of luck in your quest for the perfect case!
(PS - anyone interested in this case: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=150174518413&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=005, PM me an offer - it's like new!)

OK, all these cases don't do it for me. I need something that easily clips off my belt to answer the phone quickly, protects the screen and doesn't annoy me with huge flaps while I talk on the phone.
I think this case would almost do it but the price is way to high if I'm doing the conversion correctly for US dollars?
https://www.noreve.com/product_info.php?products_id=2069
I'm an intern now but I'll be a Emergency Medicine Resident next year so being able to whip my device off my belt to look something up or use the phone needs to be effortless and non-annoying.
I can't seem to find one that does all of that. Suggestions?
Any aluminum cases yet?
Do what I do; use the OEM case for the Tytn (the first Tytn, that is). Horizontal belt clip, magnetic closure, good fit, easy access. The case for the Tytn II is crud, methinks... Velcro? Come on, that went out in the 80's...

Got my Krusell in yesterday. Fits perfect. Looks great. Very high quality...I'm going to sell it :(
I'm sorry it's just way too bulky for me. I like carrying my Kaiser in my pocket. I've tried to become a belt clipper, but it's just not me. I'm going to get the Seidio.
If anyone wants my Krusell, PM or email (mailto:btwhite7@yahoo.com) me with an offer. It's brand new and I still have original packaging. I'm putting it on Ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120208452248&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:1123) in the next couple of days.

Judging from what I've gathered about the Noreve from it's reviews, it only has an extra place for microSD(hc) cards. I'll let you know when I personally have it in hand though.

Hi...
My Noreve Dark (Black) Vintage case arrived today from Saint Tropez, and its the best case I have ever seen for a mobile/PDA.
Its exceptionally well made, and although expensive, its well worth the money. This thing oozes quality.
The device clicks inside firmly and looks even better than without a case - amazing... and there isn't a nasty plastic cover over the keyboard.
The case is lightly padded, and also very very slim. It's the least bulky case I have seen to date.
IMO easily better than the Piel Frama, which does have a cheap looking plastic keyboard cover, isn't as well made, and cheap looking in comparison.
Probably the best case currently on the market.
I'll try and post a pic or 2 at some point.
Buy one here -
http://www.noreve.com/brand/HTC/product/Housse_cuir_HTC_P4550_-_HTC_Kaiser_-_HTC_Tytn_2.html ,
...you should seriously consider spending a little bit more for the Vintage leather.
HTH.

Mark.

I was after a case that would allow me to answer the phone without doing anything (i.e. having to open the case), and that also protected the screen and allowed me to use the tilt function. I didn't want a plastic cover over my keyboard, either. After much scouting around, I opted for this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Leather-Case-Clip-for-HTC-TyTN-II-2-P4550-MDA-Vario-III_W0QQitemZ190190637965QQihZ009QQcategoryZ130803 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I've been using the case for a few months now, and it's perfect. No signs of wear and still as sturdy as ever.

I just got the Active Case from Boxwave and for the life of me I can't get the front cover on! I'll get three corners completely secure and if I even get the fourth corner on, another corner pops off! I agree with everyone else that these things are very snug, but maybe a little too snug.
I'm tired of messing with it for now and plan on heating up the cover with a hair-dryer later in hopes of it having a little more give.
Has anyone else had these problems?
BTW: The back piece went on without any problems.
I had the same problem. They sent me another one and it has the same problem... Bad choice.

Prufrock, this case (http://cgi.ebay.com/Book-Type-Leather-Case-w-Clip-for-HTC-TyTN-II-2-P4550_W0QQitemZ130195978429QQihZ003QQcategoryZ1503 6QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem)looks similar to yours, except it opens to the right instead. Do you have any comments as to which side would work better for you given a choice?
Has anyone else tried these types of cases? Just wanted to get some feedback on it. It appears not to cover the keyboard with a plastic, which is something I'd prefer.

@mad: I have both cases.
Aluminum Case
pros: Metal offers good protection. Plastic screen protects the phone's screen.
cons: Affects reception! This was bad for me because I live in some marginal-service areas. It's bulky and less pocketable. Case made it difficult to open, slide, and use with one hand.
Seido Case
pros: Rubberized hard plastic has a good feel. Screen usable without opening. Very slim. Can use just like a kaiser w/o a case. Doesn't affect reception.
cons: Makes a slight "click" when the tilt slides to cover the keyboard. No screen protector.
All in all the Seido is the better of the two IMO. I personally don't want the plastic screen cover, so that's actually a plus for me. It's too much of a hassle to open the case to use the touch functionality.

Here are my parameters with what makes a great case:
1. On the belt.
2. Small, does not stick way out and make me you look like a geek - mimial profile
3. Ability to get the unit in and out of the case FAST
4. SAFETY and PROTECTION so that your unit is not dropped
Here is one that seems to fit the bill
http://www.thepocketsolution.com/PSI-42591.html
- I have ordered one. In my opinion however, it would be even better to find a case that holds the unit - with no flap - horizontally against your belt. That is what I have now, but it's got a darn flap...
i ordered one of those. the case fit waayyy to tight on the phone. it took a lot of effort to get it out of the case. way too much effort.

My advice is to just look around your house before rushing out to buy something. I did and I found at least 3 cases that were originally for other gadgets (rarely ever used now) that were quite adequate. My favorite is my old Delphi MyFi XM radio case - perfect as a holster!

Here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1978834&postcount=8) is what I've done with the Noreve Case, Brodit/Proclipsusa Car Mount, Krusell Car mount and Krussel Swivel Belt Clip.
I'm so happy with the case that my oldest daughter has ordered the Light Purple Noreve Case and we will be doing the same thing in her car.
I would worry about any case that has a plastic sheet over the keyboard. There's already one member here who had the Krusell case break the spring mech behind the screen.
Even with the other models I would be worried about premature loosening of the slide but especially with the Kaiser as it has more going-on behind the screen (spring assist, tilt mech & SIM Socket). That is what I really like about the Noreve Case, I can use the keyboard without removing it and there is nothing jammed between the keyboard & screen. The fit is really unique amongst the Kaiser cases.

IMHO, based on the pros listed and the price, I prefer the nakedcellphone case [over the Seido case]. Yes, it fits fine in the enlarged Seidio holster. I see no difference in the outside dimensions.
Thanks for the review, Faxman. Based on that information, I ordered this generic case (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360025606067&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:US:1123) from ebayer "bundlestore." It fits great and I can't imagine more expensive models have any better quality - as someone said, it's all prefabbed in China anyway.
So I'll order the enlarged holster from Seido eventually, and I'll be all set. That, and of course my quest for the perfect car solution for my Mazda 3...

I like it...does the job well, fits the phone well...allows me to answer the phone without having to get it out of the case. Also allows me to flip open the first cover to access the touchscreen without opening the whole case. If I want to use the keyboard, I just open the second cover and flip the front up. I can use the camera without opening the case up totally, too. The GPS isn't covered, either. Definitely one of the better designs.

I don't like big bulky cases, grab yourself an invisible shield for the TYTN II
It has a lifetime guarantee, and will stop any scratches or marks getting to your phones casing / screen.
I fit it to every phone i ever buy, and then you can throw it in your bag with your documents, keys etc and it will not get scratched, no hassle when it rings either!

I do! Well, kinda. When I'm at work in slacks I use a pouch, everywhere else its just the pocket.
This is the one I use now:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-images/B000ELUXIO/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_0/105-9878626-5982827?ie=UTF8&index=0
Only because I work at a cell phone place, and we sell them here. Still, I'm pleased with it. It does stick out a little more then the 8125 case (thats the only other one i've used), but the clip is sturdy and the magnet is awesome. Theres also a pocket on the inside where I would keep a stylus (after losing the one on my Hermes). If you go down to customer images on that site, it actually has pictures with an 8525 or Tilt in there.
It works, it was cheap for me, build quality is excellent, and it looks nice. Palm should make more accessories.

Just to weigh in on this, I have been using the Seidio Super Slim Rubberized Case with the Skinned Device Belt Clip for a few weeks now and LOVE IT. Yes it is a bit pricey but as someone who is both particular and hard on things like cases I must say that it is a nice combo.
My tilt is heald securly and fits snug aganst my body and the rubberzed case acctualy improves the feel and usablity of the device without increasing the bulk substiatively. True some cases might provide more protection but if you like to wear your device this is the way to go. I really hate cases that take a nice compact device and make it into an unweildy thing that needs to be carried in a breafcase or backpack aand I often forgo the protective case entirely and just use a belt pouch to avoid the extra bulk.
As a side note, the BELT CLIP (the part that acctualy attaches to the belt) is always a major concern for me as I tend to be REALLY hard on them. I was concered that this might be a problem with the Seidio Clip but I am very impressed with the durability and security of this design. I have not had it come off once accidentlaly and I don't see it breaking easaly either. tend to break belt clips and genneraly can't trust them for any but the tamest of acctivitys. I have enough confidence in my Seidio combo that I went out cutting firewood with my phone cliped to my belt, something that I normally only do with an heavy duty nylon pouch that is indistructable.
Anyway, just my 2 cents. Hope this helps someone. PS: PM me if you have any questions about this combo from the perspective of a hard use kind of user.

Well, after a lot of searching, I finally settled on a particular case for my tilt. I got it here http://www.noreveusa.com/category/Smartphone_HTC/product/ATT_Tilt_-_HTC_P4550_-_HTC_Tytn_2_Tradition_leather_case.html.
I forgot to remember one IMPORTANT thing:
IF YOU HAVE THE EXTENDED BATTERY IN PLACE, THIS CASE WILL NOT WORK WITH THE TILT.
This would be the perfect case for me if it would take the larger battery so I am back to my Treo soft case until I can find a more suitable one to house the tilt along with its' 2700 battery. Bummer.
If anyone wants to buy the case from me, I'll sell it for $25 dollars. I paid like 80 with shipping (Got the overnight shipping...HEY, I was excited)
Anyway, I have yet to run across the mother of all cases which would incorporate safety, protection, convenience and allow for the larger batteries.
Bottom line, if you have the normal battery in your tilt, I HIGHLY recommend this case. If you have the LARGER battery, join the club. I did see a post on here where a hard case for the Treo might possibly work on the tilt with a little shaving off of the case to allow for the larger battery. This is my next step – to get the Treo hard case and see if I can alter it to house my tilt.

Hi… I am looking for something like this http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=896 but with transparent covers over the buttons specially the ones on the front to prevent accumulating dust under them like it happens on regular computer keyboards. Thanks a bunch!

@Adi_T
That one looks sexy. Only thing I don't like about it is that it doesnt cover the keyboard unlike like this one

I've got the ATT Tilt..
and for it I've got the Krusell Orbit with Multiadapt, and CardHoldickit
I've also got the Boxwave Designio Leather Sleeve case
and I've got the Holster Clip as well.
I'm currently using/testing the Krusell now and I like it quite a bit, it offers a lot of protection but I don't care for the large flap that covers the phone, it's kind of awkward and I'm sure funny looking when talking on the phone with a big flap hanging around, but on the positive side the flap does have two spaces for mem cards and even a slot for credit/id and it protects the camera as well. You can fold down the back flap to take pictures, so it's a very protective case and still offers access to all buttons and there is a clear plastic covering for the keyboard. I do like the multi-adapt idea as well.
Both the Designio and Krusell have free spinning belt clips, I don't care for that too much, overall both are very well made though, it just depends what you want in a case.
Honestly out of the three I have I like the holster clip the best I think. I have the phone screen facing in/my hip for protection and it allows easy one-handed release of the phone, but yet holds the phone tightly

I have 2 cases that I use regularly with my Tilt. For a more rugged durable protection I use a Monaco aluminum swivel case. Quite heavy duty!
http://www.tiltdepot.com/monaco-aluminum-case/4A23A3294.htm
However most of the time I keep it in a swivel holster/housing made by Seidio. This is a great product.

I would recommend either.

in ref to post 303 on the Capdase case.
I have one. great quality. fits beautifully. probably the best fit of a case you'll find.
my only problem is it does not have a belt clip. I use a detatchable lanyard to carry it. I work in a warehouse and its to bulky for my pocket. although I do put it in my cellphone pocket in my dickies quite often.
I also use the Monaco aluminum black case as well it is also fantastic. great fit, does add weight though. again my problem is the belt clip. it has one. a very god one very stable and strong. my problem is the nub on the back of the case is huge and does not allow you to set the phone down..its very awkward. so I took the nub off and bought a curve leather holster from a local Dollar Tree for 1 dollar and slide it in and out of there no prob.
hope this helps.

I have been taking a look at this case on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Black-Monaco-Aluminum-Case-for-AT-T-Tilt-8925_W0QQitemZ330249893903QQihZ014QQcategoryZ20336 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I like the looks of it. It locks the casing so that your tilt wont open by accident. The only thing I dont like about it is that once you open the cover, your top wont be protected anymore. There is also neoprene inside the casing for extra protection.
What do you guys think?

Here's my experience with a Piel Frama case (http://www.pielframa.net/htc_tytn_II.asp).
I give it 2/10. The pluses are protection and quality.
The minuses are below:
1) Plastic keyboard cover
First I struggled to get the Tytn II into it. It was hard to get the plastic keyboard cover to slip between the keyboard and the screen.
Later I found it gets scrunched up by the closing screen, making it harder to close the screen and hard to see and use the keyboard. I kept pressing the keyboard menu keys when meaning to push nearby keys like 'T' etc. I sent a number of SMS messages by mistake because of this.
Eventually I got a knife and cut the cover so that instead of pointing towards the screen it is straight or angled away. So: __ or \/ rather that /\
That seemed to help but I stopped using the case shortly afterwards so can't really say. The cover holds the PDA in the case so cutting it off completely isn't an option.
Clear plastic also covers the power and camera buttons which makes them hard to find and press. Access to the USB port was a bit tricky too.
2) Unsecure
If the stud comes undone and the case is hanging the 'wrong way up' on the belt clip the PDA will fall out of the case! Unfortunately this is likely since hanging this 'wrong way up'. is also liable to force the stud open by pushing the stud flap against the belt clip.
I've heard suggestions about putting Velcro strips on the PDA and the case to keep it in (perhaps without the keyboard cover?) but I don't like that idea.
3) Belt clip
One day when getting of a bus, something got caught. The front part of the supplied belt clip ripped off resulting in case and bits of clip falling into the gutter. In a rush I didn't pick up all the bits and so had to find a replacement clip at a silly cost from Expansys.
The clip is also one that spins freely rather than various settings.
3) Inconvenient spine
The jog wheel and voice button are on the same side as the spine of the case. So your fingers or thumb (depending on left or right handed) cannot curl round to use them unless you fold the whole front flap completely back180 desgees.
4) Stylus storage
Finally, there is not a hole for the stylus to go into its normal slot inside the PDA. Instead the stylus has to go in the leather sleeve on the case. While the case is done up the stylus is held in tight. When open though there is the potential for of the stylus fall out. Somewhere I have lost two styli because of this in three months. That doesn't include the times I found the stylus again else it would be a lot more!
All these failings are a real shame because it does protect the PDA very well with leather at all corners. Otherwise it's a big disappointment.
I've now got the Noreve case (http://www.noreveusa.com/product/ATT_Tilt_-_HTC_P4550_-_HTC_Tytn_2_Tradition_leather_case.html) and found it solves many of these problems. It has:
a hole for the stylus slot,
no keyboard cover yet holds the PDA firmly even when it the keyboard is open.
a small spine so the jog wheel and voice button are accessible.
My only observations so far are:
the leather could have been extended around a few more corners to enhance the protection.
The stud doesn't quite naturally mean the stud hole. As others have said the flap should be slightly shorter.
A pouch for a business card or screen wipe would be nice.
I'd like the spine to be a bit more substantial. Not sure how or why but maybe a little wider and stiffer. It just makes the front feel a bit too 'flappy'.
But overall I am so much happier!
Hope that helps some people choose a case.

I have just got myself a o2 Stellar, so I am looking for a case, is there other choices other than black leather, a little 'boring' I feel. The metal ones look a good idea, guess I could paint them in a colour of my choosing then, are they any good, do they protect the screen enough, it'll be spending a lot of time in my handbag so will need a far amount of protection from all the other junk in there :)

one more question... w/ the noreve case, does the tilt fit w/ the rubber case attached to it? thnx in advance!:D

I'm not sure what the 'rubber case' is you mention. The Noreve case takes the Tilt 'naked' ... meaning the phone itself slips into the Noreve case. That's the one I used when I used a case. My wife uses it now. She had a Krussel case for her Tilt but never used the keyboard because she didn't like the plastic covering ... she always used the stylus. I put her phone in the Noreve and she now uses the keyboard all the time. Definitely makes a difference!
I just carry my Tilt around in my pocket w/o a case as I did every other cell phone I've ever owned.

Good quality, fits perfectly, good protection as a phone and/or a PDA, with the advantage of not having any plastic cover over the keyboard, magnetic closure for the upper part covering the screen. Overall a useful model I can recommend.

What I'm looking for is a case that will protect my phone, especially the screen. I cracked the screen 2 days ago, it's off for repairs right now. I made the mistake of having it in a soft sided case, can't afford to make that mistake again.
What I'm looking for is a case that will protect my phone and screen from damage, not necessary for case to be able to allow me to use phone, I'll take it out out of case for that if needed.

I really hope that the Noreve case thats supposed to be coming out for the Kaiser isnt one that doesnt allow you to use the keyboard while it is in the case...and i wish it would be coming out soon, they keep on pushing it..

Too expensive. Go find CAPDASE leather case design for HTC TYTN II on Ebay. About 16 pounds. Made in HONGKONG.
Good quality !

This looks good, but I was hoping for a case with no openings.
But if this is not something that is available, then I'll go for the Monaco.
Thanks!
