HSUPA was turned on in LA today. You might need to enable UPA on the Tilt via a registry hack because it is disabled. SaN diego and San Fran in November

How do you enable it? What are the reg edits?

Is there a rollout schedule somewhere?

Nice, wonder if I'll get good reception at UCLA. :)

Which HSUPA category (1-5)? They range from <1 to about 6 Mbits/s. I am currently getting .75 Mbit/s with my 3G service in San Diego.

UCLA is well covered. Try it and report. AT&T will not enable the UPA on the tilt because it will congest the Uplink traffic. I hope the hack works
Try it and report to us otherwise the only official device with UPA is the Sierra Wireless card 881U

It is a Cat 3 for UPA

A little more granularity in the timeline would be nice. ;)

As in, which metropolitan markets will get it when. Of course I'm interested if my area is on or at least scheduled to be on. With my current ~260k upload speed, methinks it's not on yet.

HSUPA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed_Uplink_Packet_Access) or HSDPA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSDPA) ?

Kaiser Tweak only enables HSDPA

Actually, you can enable/disable HSDPA with the Control Panel/Settings option.

The KaiserTweak Prog (and thus the corresponding teg tweak) toggles HSPA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed_Packet_Access)(which is HSDPA + HSUPA). At least that's what I thought.

Well according to the Kaiser Tweak XML

<key mode="set" setvalue="1" when="value" whenvalue="0">HKLM\Software\OEM\RIL\EnableHSDPAIcon</key>
<key mode="set" setvalue="0" when="value" whenvalue="1">HKLM\Software\OEM\RIL\EnableHSDPAIcon</key>
<description>Enable HSPA on devices that support HSPA but do not have the Settings applet that enables it, like the Tilt. Enabling this will make your data connection much much faster if your provider supports it.

ok cool - i didn't actually look into what it did. I never installed it on mine. thanks for clearing it up. So, yes, if there is a separate reg item to enable HSUPA, that would be good to know.

Based on my H icon indication. HSUPA seems to be active in Dallas today.

Love it in metro detroit...fast as can be. I get it hit and miss. Question, how much faster is it when I have the 'H' than it is when I have the '3g'?

The H could just mean HSDPA, not HSUPA.

Right... HSUPA is uplink speed improvement. Not sure how much that is worth overall though since most data travels over the downlink (HSDPA). Would be useful if you were hosting a vidcam on your Kaiser tho....

That's true, it could. But, since I was uploading data when I saw it and noticed that things were different (We have had HSDPA here for ages). I am making a logical leap that HSUPA was on in Dallas. I don't know if it is permanent or not, but I saw it yesterday.

There is mystery regarding HSUPA:

- AT&T officially states that it is not supported
- HTC specs do not mention it
- Qualcomm 7200 chipset support it
Question: Could it be turned on via a registry hack?
Remmeber the Treo 750 was launched w/o HSDPA and was hacked

** AT&T is not ready for large scale UPA usage because of the insufficient T1's

I am trying to get HTC to include UPA measurments within the fieldtest utility
