All,
I thought I would start a thread where people can post what headsets they have and/or are using with the Kaiser. That way, if people want to buy a headset to use with the Kaiser they can know ahead of time whether or not it will work. I love this device, but right now I am not very pleased with my headset. Respond and I will try to keep it up to date!!

1. (Me) Plantronics 665 - Previously a very good headset. Now with Kaiser, not very good quality. Barely functional with lots of static.
2. Moto H700 - Seems to be good. (x2)
3. Moto HT820 - Stereo Headphones, but good.
4. Plantronics 310 - No report.

I am using the HT700 for standard driving. But I also use the Motorola HT820, BT stereo headphones, and they work as well. Music plays from the phone, and if a phone call comes in, Microsoft Voice Command annouces the caller. I can then press the call phone, the music pauses, I take the call. When the call is over, the music resumes where it left off.

For me it’s a Plantronics 310 right now, but I'm looking to upgrade. I will likely stick with one of their products too, as I’ve processed around a quarter million inbound via their wired sets at work.

There was mention of a pretty cool Jawbone modification by AVERYSOUND (http://www.averysound.com/as.jawbone.html) in an earlier thread. It’s pricy however but worth looking at. It appears to address complaints I’ve heard about the earpiece not being a factor.

Update: I found Discovery 510 (Plantronics) that I had misplaced some time back. Well I charged it up and paired to the Kaiser earlier today. What a bummer. The sound quality is ok, but the volume is just too low, even at the max setting. It’s also bit more cumbersome to slip on in a pinch (like while driving). Bottom line is the 310 sounds much better to me from a volume standpoint.
Fwiw…

me too, doesn't stop me from wearing them

the new ones do look a whole lot cooler, I didn't care so much but with as sleek as the tilt looks my headphones should match

I have the JX10. It was a dream with my 8525 it sounded and worked great.

caveat: in general it is a very delicate and breakable headset -- I have had two of them and done numerous repairs to keep them from falling apart - I have cannibalized the first to keep the second one going - but what the hell, I love that little head set with my 8525.

BUT

It is an unusable pig connected to the Tilt.

It pairs ok, but when you activate voice command or try to answer a call it activates the phone but will not transfer sound (or mic) to the ear piece. Sometimes after a short time the JX10 beeps and then you can hit the connect button again and it will transfer the sound. If you place a call it will not play the ring signal into the ear piece or the handset and it will only allow you to connect sound (signaling you with a couple of beeps) to hear the call until after the called party has answered.

Maddening!

I've actually struggle to answer or make a call using it and finally got the sound through only to hear my friends on the other side yelling "HELLO?! - HELLO! - YOUR PHONE SUCKS!"

it's embarrassing.

Don't even get me started about how bad it sounds on the Tilt.

I'm tempted to go back to the Hermes, but I love my new Tilt...

I need a high quality compatible headset...

I have been using mine for about 2 months and so FAR really good with the ATT Stock ROM. On the Hermes with WM6 cooked ROM's I experienced strange issues like music resuming after a call (even though the music was paused BEFORE the call came in). Since getting away from the cooked Hermes ROM's (no offense to anyone at all), the performance has been SOLID. :D I am very Happy...

Well, since I figured I was going to be really stepping into the 21st century by getting my Tilt, I determined to jump into it with both feet ! Hence this headset.

I did alot of research on the BT headset (like I did on the Kaiser/Tilt itself), and I knew pretty much what I wanted to do -- and this Jabra BT8010 convertible (mono/stereo) headset totally fit the bill. I planned on answering calls as normal, but I listen to alot of music, too, and wanted just one thing to carry around. If you haven't seen one of these headsets online, it's about the only one I'm aware of that "converts" -- that is, it has a main unit, and the "second half", or "satellite" that makes the stereo part of the equation optionally plugs into and tethers to the main part when you want to listen to music, too. The whole thing is quite small and svelte -- though ever so slightly "cyborg" (you'd have to see it worn).

The function of this headset has been flawless so far, and the sound quality is just mind-blowing (yeah, it's that good). Volume won't get quite as head-bangingly loud as I might like, but the overall fidelity and usable flexibility of this combo just puts it head over shoulders above anything else I've tested out.

A little pricey, but they are just really good. :D

Motorola S9 for me too :)

though I could never paired it to a 2nd device SIMULTANEOUSLY though ... any advice ??

I followed the instructions to a T ... yet, it always paired to the last one ... I thought this is capable of upto 9 devices in list ... and they said it's capabled of simultaneous pairing ???

summary:

/ paired to phone.
/ turn off phone and attempt to paired to 2nd device ( desktop stereo ... desktop PC ..etc..etc
/ even went as far as "unticked" the "use as stereo headset" withing the bluetooth setting on phone !! only ticked as " use as handsfree " ... tried both ways too.

it always connect only the the last paired device.

now ... if I'd only paired to the phone ... it works as advertised in terms of listening to music and calls come in get interupted to answer the call & back to music when call ended.

but I can't use it as just handsfree on the phone and listen to music from another device ( bluetooth home entertainment ... desktop bluetooth PC...etc )

pairing to any device(s) individually works fine ... just not simultaneously though

any advice ???

For Mono -
Plantronics 655 works great for me. Only complaint is not compatibility, but the button on it is HARD to push.
Plantronics 320 - Untested with Tilt. Like the 655 too much. :)

For Stereo -
Works great with my Sony XM-BT2500 headunit. Haven't used it with any BT stereo headsets.

This is with the HTC shipped ROM on a Tilt.

Skrod68, I just got a pair of Jabra BT8010 for my Tilt and was looking forward to enjoying them like you but they won't play music for me. The music function of the headset is on and I can control the media player but no sound :( Jabra & ATT were no help. HTC claimed that phone doesn't work with this BT set because the device must have a dedicated BT music headset. That sounded shady to me so I decided to check the forums. Any advice on what you did to setup your BT?

My favorite by far is the Jabra BT 8010. The Stereo is very clear with great fidelity when listening to music and Microsoft Voice Command works very well. It announces calls and all the voice commands work. I hacked my Tilt to work with MVC as described in

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337501
goestoeleven did a great job.

My Jawbone also works but with more delay which aggreviates me. Not a stereo earpiece.
My Plantronics 655 doesn't activate MVC. Not a stereo earpiece.

I have a Jawbone and it has a much lower sound level than on my 8525.

However, my Logitech Mobile Travelor (that I hate) works great. Very loud to the point it cracks some. Something the Jawbone never approached in sound level.

Sony Ericsson HBH-DS970: Occasional snap, crackle 'n' pop when using as a phone headset. As A2DP stereo earplugs these work very well.

Sony Ericsson HBH-608: clear and reasonably loud but completely bass-less audio as a phone headset.

I am using a Jawbone for primary hands-free use and a MotoRockr S9 for stereo action.

The Jawbone is the best you can buy. I have used it with an HP iPAQ 6945 and my Tilt and it is wicked. Fit, sound quality and best yet, microphone quality is top notch. I have used 2 Plantronics headsets before and have enjoyed their fit and sound quality, but the microphones were waaaay too sensitive. I couldn't use the Plantronics while driving because the mic picked up the rubber rolling on the road and the person who I was talking too would not be able to hear me over the noise.

The S9 is the best stereo headset I have used so far. My only complaint is that it fits a little snug, but my ears are getting used to it. (I have a bigger head than the average schmoe!) Other than that, they are small, the controls make sense and the sound quality and volume is excellent. The only trick is that when I have my Tilt in a deep pocket, the sound might skip now and again. I am hoping this will go away when I get a holster to keep at my belt to bring the device and the headset closer together. And as a bonus, they also work as a hand-free device too that pauses the music when a call comes in. I have also had a Logitech and BlueTake stereo headset. The Logitech was on par with the S9 for sound quality, but they stopped making them because the headband would tend to break. I got a refund for mine even though it hadn't broke yet. The BlueTake's sound was okay, but they lacked in the style department. I refused to wear them outside.

- Motorola HS850 for handsfree mono, older but great sound quality, reliable workhorse.

- Lubix UBHS-NC1 works AWESOME for stereo and handsfree. For those that haven't run across it yet, there's a good review & pics here:
http://wmexperts.com/reviews/bluetooth_headsets/review_lubix_ubhsnc1_stereo_bl.html

I had a hard time with the Lubix pairing to the AT&T rom, no problems at all with the HTC shipped rom.

The Lubix seems to have no trouble pairing to two different devices. It's extremely comfortable, light and stylish. Sound quality in music mode is well above average for an earbud. Automatically switches from music to calls and back and pauses the music while you're on the call. The controls are intuitive and easy to use. Sound quality on the handsfree side is average or below, as it's primarily designed for music, but certainly good enough for the occasional call that comes in while listening to music.

If you can't tell, I'm fond of it :p

I have the Aliph Jawbone, and it is the best Buletooth mono headset I've ever used, bar none. I did stick a Jabra ear insert on it, which improved comfort and stability of fit, and channeled sound better to my ear.

When I call using the Jawbone, people on the other end have no idea that I'm using bluetooth!

A correction to my own post. I get the Rice Krispies noise from both headsets if I move further than half a meter (less than two feet) from the phone. I have to keep the phone close enough so that I can touch it to maintain good sound quality on phone calls and also to avoid drops and cuts while using the A2DP headset.

Is it possible to use a S9 or any other bluetooth stereo headset and use a second device for display and/or control functions?

For example:
S9 as the main device (headset/Stereo) and a second device as a display and/or controller (motorola S705 (http://direct.motorola.com/ens/s705/Headset_Feature.asp) or Tritton AX BlueStreak (http://www.trittontechnologies.com/products/TRIBH102.html))

I really like the idea of having a display and wireless speakers, but I don't want a new watch.

This maybe more of a software question but I'll ask anyway:
Is it possible with a bluetooth connection to a pc to display caller id info on screen either in some sort of popup window or with outlook? Guess I'm asking if anyone has made a piece of software to read the caller id info sent over a bluetooth connection.

Pairing to the second device for meonly works with the motorola D650 bluetooth adaptor for the ipod and then to your phone. I used to use the ipod and the Verizon V befor I got my kaiser and it worked great. And as if you could'nt tell my vote is for the S9! great sound and good for the active person.

Update: just tried listening to the ipod and connecting to the tilt it worked fine, muted the music answered the call, ended call music came back on. no problems!

I don't know exactly what the problem is but I do know that I can not pair the phone first, I have to pair the ipod then the phone or the ipod won't work. I think that thie ipod adaptor was made specificaly for the S9 ( they were released within days of each other) so mabye there is some on-way compatibility issue that I don't know about. But in the D650 manual ( I can't find it anywhere) it says to pair both seperatly at first then disconnect, next pair music device then phone. I'll keep looking for the instructions but it was a 3 page pampthlet and I probably threw it away.

I've got my Nokia BH-801 paired successfully.

Using the bluetooth audio application, I can listen to music etc through the headset, but when I try a call I can't hear anything, although my voice is transmitted. I'll update if I figure it out, but I'm sure the headset must be fine, it's probably something I've done wrong.

I use my phone to call my fiancée from the car to let her know when I'll be picking her up from work, so I'm looking to get a bluetooth headset so that I don't have to use speakerphone all the time - hopefully it'll be a bit easier and I won't have to shout so much!

One thing I'm having difficulty with though, is I want just a normal mono headset that recharges via mini-usb, so in the car I can just use my Kaiser charger if the headset's dying. Nowhere seems to say what any of them use for charging, unless they use a cradle, so I was wondering which headsets people have that use mini usb to charge :-)

check this out... even in Germany´, home country of Sennheiser, I was only able to get it from an online dealer. So it may be even more difficult to get hold of it elsewhere. it is also rather expensive but definitely the most cleverly designed headset i have come accross so far, through it's clever folding/switch on/pick up mechanism that saves power, and through it's two microphone design that uses audilogy technology to cancel noise. Although it does sound better and louder with the Tytn, it is still ok with the Tytn II. I can talk walking on loud streets or in restaurants, without raising my voice and I have a rather deep and "mumbly" voice that normally is difficult to understand over headsets. And it is only rarely that i have to ask people to speak louder.

Unfortunately it's connector is not mini USB, it is possibly a new sub-mini USB...I saw a similyr one on a Jabra..maybe even the same..actually I do not know any headset that uses a regular mini USB although that is exactly what i would have loved to have too---;-)

I'v tested Jawbone, Plantronic 655, 430, and Motorola H700 but the only one works best so far with my ATT Tilt is motorola H12. Great sound quality! Loud!
and don't forget tweak your registry too. Jawbone is great but I felt like sound is much compressed and repsond to a certain frequency.

the Bit Pool at 64 make cracker sounds 48 or 58 but the best is at 58. For sample rate, you can change it to 48000 but this won't make any differences.

Back to the original purpose of the thread, I have two headsets:

Motorola H3 - Piece of crap on anyphone, completely unusable on Kaiser. Loud echo, and about a 1ft range from Kaiser. You can barely hear the other person even at max volume.

Jabra BT620S - Works decently for music on the Kaiser. Loud and clear. I still have the problem of 1-2s dropouts about once a minute, but that seems to be a common Kaiser problem, not the headset. For headset (phone call) mode, it is a lot quieter than music mode, with a noticable amount of hissing and popping. That said, it is usable at max volume, and the other party seems to hear me just fine.

I've tried the various adjustments above to try and boost the call volume and get rid of the skipping in music (A2DP) mode, but they don't seem to work. Have any other solutions been found?

I've used this headset for about a year, first with an Eten x500 and now with the tilt. Performance has been near perfect. On the tilt, I've never had a dropped signal while playing music, sound quality is decent, works with MS voice command. I don't know much about the manufacturer or support as I haven't had any issues with the device.

the Bit Pool at 64 make cracker sounds 48 or 58 but the best is at 58. For sample rate, you can change it to 48000 but this won't make any differences.

Tried this in the morning and 58 is awful - went back to 64.

check this out... even in Germany´, home country of Sennheiser, I was only able to get it from an online dealer.

I did pick one of these up and it is very well made and the sound is good, BUT, I have to say that there are several irritating quirks with my TyTN II;

1 - Opening the headset is supposed to answer the call, it doesn't.

2 - Tapping the call button on the headset is supposed to initiate voice dialer, it does sometimes, sometimes it voice dials but then drops the BT connection when the call goes thru. Pushing the button again brings the sound back to the headset.

3 - When wearing the headset and a call comes in, tapping the button answers the call, but there is a longer delay than I've seen in many headsets.

So all in all it's not so great compared to the flawless BT performance (connection and call handling) that I get with my Jawbones. I do like the styling and will play with it more outdoors and in cars to see how it handles noise.

Edit, tried it outside, BT "scratchy sounds", my friend could hear the even slightest wind puffs. In the car it did OK, reduced noise somewhat but callers who talk to me regularly said that there was more noise than Jawbone and slight "speaker phone-like echo", this headset is comfortable, compact, and a pretty.....turd.

I use HTC 1.56.405.5 last official one without any change in registry.
I dont see any improvment in the cooked versions, tried them all.
But probably is just my problem : )

If you can't tell, I'm fond of it :p
thanks to your review i took a second look at the lubix. just got mine today and couldn't be happier. thanks again!
Update: voice dial works.dialing last number is done with 1 press instead of the normal double press. no more need for a2dp toggle because headset automatically starts with stereo headset profile profile in most cases. if the phone is reset stereo profile must be enable trough bt settings or quickly by truing headset off and on.

i'm thinking of going back to my plantronics headset because I bought a parrot minikit hands free for the car and I'm having loads of problems with it not picking up the call from the phone and apprently it's the phones that has the problem and I'm unsure about doing rom upgrades because it took me so long to get the phone working with my laptop.

I am currently using the Plantronics 655. Sound quality and volume are very good. The noise cancellation works great. Not quite as good as the Jawbone but none the less good. Often times I have to lower the volume one or two levels. I do use the optional ear loop to insure a secure fit and comfortable fit. Due to the fact that the ear gels can be removed pretty easily, I have had to glue the ear gel to the headset to keep from frequently having to scramble to retrieve both the ear gel and the ear loop that will quickly pop off when the ear gel comes out. This does prevent me from using the headset in my opposite ear but I have a good solid feeling headset.

I also have a Jawbone that sounds great on the recieving end and on my end the volume is fine but the sound quality is a tinny. The tinny sound can make it difficult to understand the caller when there is background noise.

I've also tried the Motorola H12, Ant Z9, and Jabra 840. While they are all good headsets I found the volume level to be insuficient and/or the sound lacking base and therefore sounding tinny.

Ok. Got a Moto S9 today at at&t store so if I needed to take back I could. Paired fine in the store so thought alright now I am cooking. Wrong. Same issue's as with the Insignia I bought. Unable to connect sometimes and drops connections. Thinking I may have to revert back to original at&t rom and see if that makes the difference cause this is sucking bad.

Ok. Since I could not seem to get my BT headsets to work I reverted back to AT&T ROM and bingo they work perfectly now. So the problem seems to be something in the cooked ROM. I was using dutty's v3 ROM. Looks like I will have to stick with the AT&T ROM until this issue is resolved.

Dutty's V3 probably doesn't include the HotFix.cab where the AT&T does. This CAB supposedly fixes dropped connections. I think his later ROMs do include this fix. I'm using his Nu Skool ROM with no problems other than low volume.

I use many BT headsets, but my favorites with the Tilt are my Motorola H700 and my Motorola S9. I love going to the gym and streaming internet radio over my S9's. If I get a call the music is muted and I can take the call.

HBH-DS970 works fine but there is one problem. I was using it with SE M600i and now switched to HTC Kaiser. I'm dissappointed because the headset doesn't display track / call information anymore? Does anyone know what to do with that issue?

I finally took the plunge and went for the afore-mentioned, works great as a headset but I get the following issues with the Kaiser:

1. No track info on the device.
2. Unable to move to next track using device.

I downloaded Jetware Mobile (Sharware) to enable access to contacts, call history clock e.t.c.

Anyone know how I can at least enable moving through the tracks or a better media player, one which supports A2DP.

Thanks

Using the new BlueAnt Z9i

Pros:
It works very well most of the time and works with voice command (if I activate Voice Command with Z9i hear it on the Z9i, if activated on phone can hear it through phone).

It has good vloum. I sometimes have to lower it a click or two.

It's firmware upgradeable.

It is feature rich. and can be paired with up to 5 devices, and can be connected to two at the same time.

has a small form factor.

I can use it in the car with the radio on and windows down and hear and be heard.

Cons:

Can be inconsistant, sometimes it has some static that interupts incoming calls. It also seem sometimes the voice isolation dosen't work so well and other have a hard time hearing me.

I'm hoping a firmware update can fix this. A firmware update helped my, now broken (my fault), Z9. I'm hoping there will be one for the Z9i soon.

Hi, im using Sony DR-BT50 and sound is really good but the keys dont work well.

Talking: only Volume keys work. I cannot pickup phone calls or end them with the headset. (to use the headset i need either to call the person my self, or use BT-Toggler and anserw with the phone. If i dont use BT-Toggler and anserw with the phone all sound goes to the phone :/ ). When it calls it do pause the song and continues after.

I can not start the wm-player with the headset. But if i start it on phone i can use the start/stop/pause, volume keys, next/previous song keys on the headset. The catalog keys wont work thou.

Only reason i stay with them is the quality of the sound. The built in DA-decoder gives them a awsome stereo sound. Best sound i ever heard in a BT headset.
If only the keys to pickup calls and start wm-player would work id give them a 10/10 :/

I use what I think is the absolute best, IMHO -
What I have is the Jaybird JB200.
Stereo, full A2DP compliant, VERY WIDE response range, volume loud enough to hear with the headset resting on my shoulders (good when driving), and for me, the modst important feature is they are water & sweat proof! (The website says they are "resistant") They take a bit of getting used to,though as they are two pieces, connected by a wire. They have no boom mic, mut use sound picked up from the jawbone and uses a forward-facing mic for ambient noise cancellation. The people I call think the headset sounds better than the phone's built in mic!
A little pricey, but I think well worth it. www.jaybirdgear.com
