I tried to upgrade my Dell Axim X50 and used the X50v files from MagLite. Big Mistake, as I did not realize that I have a X50. So now it is dead and I can't do anything:( . Unfortunately, I do not really know what I'm doing:confused:
Can anybody tell how to upgrade to WM5 or WM6 (what I still prefer) or get my WM2003SE back?

Thank you for your help

 Does the boot-loader work ? Have you updated it to the one of x50v WM6?
If so, even if your Axim does not boot, but the boot-loader still works, there can be hope to unbrick your x50...

You need to find the original x50 boot loader... And Rename it in a way it could be booted from the bootloader

I tried to put WM5 A01 on it (using the files I found in MagLite's threat). Afterwards I realized that X50v is not equal to my X50. Now I cannot even get into the diagnostic modus (by pressing Record button + Power Button + tap Reset button), the screen just turns on for a second but is black as soon as I release the buttons. So first of all I cannot access the boot loader screen and second I dont have the files for bringing it back to WM2003Se.

Please does anybody know how to bring it back to life. I cannot afford a new one:(

Thanks

look for the tool to downgrade your axim x50 at dell website, they have a utility to downgrade from wm5 to wm2003se.
it should work for you, i have tried it on my axim x50v and it works fine.

download the following utility for QVGA devices (X50):

ftp : // ftp . us . dell . com / utility / R115117 . EXE

the following is for VGA devices (X50v):

http : // ftp . us . dell . com / utility / R111630 . EXE

make sure to use the first file.

good luck

Thank you very much for yout help, EmualDave!
Before I get started, there are still some things I dont get:confused: . I downloaded the posted file but this only works via activesync. So I read the tutorial on how to create CRC files. Do I have to do this with the *.img file, which is part of the package you posted, and use a hex editor to create a bootloader and OS image?
And as I would like to put back the german version of WM2003Se, on the Dell homepage
(http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=de&l=de&s=gen&releaseid=R103215&SystemID=PDA_AXIM_X50&servicetag=&os=PPCA&osl=ge&deviceid=6739&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=6&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=7&fileid=133533)
I found an *.img for just updating WM2003Se. Can I use this version and create the CRC files?
I was just too brave when I tried to upgrade my axim and now I just want to undo it.

He already said in his third post that he cannot access the bootloader screen, meaning, its already bricked, the PC wont even recognize the device when plugged. Basically (correct me if im wrong) the only way to revive it is though JTAG, but looking for the JTAG points is tricky as it require complete dissassembly of you PDA.

Sorry for your loss mate.

Dear Eikichi, EmualDave and all the other who can help me,

I managed to access the boot-loader screen again:D. Therefore, I can use my SD card to fix it. But I still have a question on how to solve it (sorry, for being so annoying): Do I have to take the *.img file from the Dell homepage and use the tutorial, which EmualDave posted (http://www.aximsite.com/boards/x50-x...-flashing.html) and create the bootloader and OS image? Does anybody know if I can also do it with the file I found (see my threat above) in order to get the german version back.
I am overcautious right now just not to make more mistakes.

Thanks for all your help

Hi,

as I said I can access the bootloader (so I am really relieved). I read somewhere that the bootloader of X50 and X50v are the same so I didnt brick it completely. I tried to create my own *.nb0 files by following the tutorial (http://www.aximsite.com/boards/x50-x51-forums/112267-tutorial-how-create-your-own-flash-images-your-axim.html)
but it doesnt work:confused:. Everytime I want to create the OS file and select the appropriate block, it doesnt work. I tried several ROM images which I downloaded from the Dell site. Can somebody help me and tell me which ROM image I have to take. Or perhaps somebody has the *.nb0 files already and sent them to me. (that would be great - I only find outdated links).

Thank you very much

MUCH EASIER WAY

Get another X50 to borrow
Run the WM6 ROM update for the working X50
When It comes to the "UPdate" Button
Remove the working X50 mand put your own on the cradle
Hit Update.
Do a Hard reset
The X50 is now Un-bricked and has WM6 Installed!!

However, please use the working one to charge your battery, because when it's bricked the battery will not charge

Err the x50 doesnt have a wm6, (correct me if im mistaken) its the x50v which has unofficial WM6 and flashing both x50 with a rom not intended for it will make matters worse than it is already.

It vdoesn't matter WHICH rom u flash it with.... so longst as its a working rom for the device. It wan be a WM5 rom as well. The TECHNIQUE is what matters here. I can see that you are not exoerienced in these things

I have exact the same problem, fucking ebay scammer sold me a wm 6 upgrade for my x50 but what i didnt know is that it was impossible to upgrade an x50 to wm6, i think he gave me an x50v update because i can get into the boot menu

Usb wont work becouse my pc wont recognise my x50 when its in boot menu

If anyone knows a solution for this ...

Thanks in advance

wow, i keep on saying this everywhere, if you are not experienced enough to tell the difference between a x50 and an x50v (especially when it says it on the front of the device in plain letters) then you should not upgrade your ROM! it is only for advanced users! i dont mean to troll or flame but if you dont even know what device you have you should not do a ROM upgrade

btw, it is spelled thread not threat. the word threat has a COMPLETELY different meaning. it even says at the top of the page to reply to a thread it says "Reply to Thread" not once, but twice

What is the hardware difference, then, between a x51 and x51v? Would it be difficult to make a x51 version, much like football's x51v ROM?

X51 is QVGA, X51v is VGA. They have different CPU and GPU.

Since posting that, I've come across this knowledge... I wasn't aware of the different CPU and GPU at the time. Thanks :)
