Hey guys,

I am getting my Kaiser on friday. So i am prepping all cabs, tweaks, themes, tomom to immideatelly load on it -=).

However, this is my first PDA and i am curious what you guys consider (mutually) as being the top applications. I dont care if i have to pay for them

My current ideas:

Keyboard: http://cootek.com/
Player : Pocket Player for Pocket PC http://store.conduits.com/pocpcsof.html
Will it run youtube and other related sites?
Should i go with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337469 instead

Windows Tools: SPB
Theme(Desktop) : WisBar Advance Desktop 3.

What IM messager should i get ( i dont want to pay per/message)
What is the ideal internet browser?

Any other suggestions/recomendations.. are Greatly appreciated

I like Agile messenger the best but that is just my preference. I think it really depends on what IM account are you usiing, yahoo, msn, aol, etc.

For internet browser I would use Opera Mini until Opera 9.0 comes out then I have a feeling it is going to be the best. IE actually does a lot better than it did in WM5, you can get add on that allows multiple browser windows in IE.

Agile Messenger is nice, but slowed my Tilt down to a crawl. I put Palringo on and absolutely love it. I also enjoy the Java-based Opera Mini - it just looks nicer than Opera 8.65. Here's hoping they come out with a browser like the iPhone - I sure do miss their Safari browser and the simplicity of it all.

thats what Opera 9.0 will be like from reading the reviews, similar to safari on iPhone

Yes, me too. I wonder if it will be as worthwhile though with the smaller screen.

Go with TCPMP and flash bundle for Youtube.
PocketCM Keyboard and PocketCM from here (http://www.pocketcm.com) it is a cool contacts and threded SMS app.
For file management and reg editting and browsing shares on a LAN I use Total Commander (http://www.ghisler.com) version 2.5beta3.
For web browsing try OperaMini4 beta2 (http://www.operamini.com/beta/) it blows PIE out of the water.
For IM I use Windows live for Windows Mobile from the cab in the stickied thread. This version lets you choose if you want to merge Live/MSN contacts with your Outlook default contacts.
MS Voice Command should be on every device as standard but it is $$$ only unless you look in the darker corners of the web.

I'd throw Google Maps in there, but that'd be 11. :)

Edit - how in the heck I left AgendaOne off the list is beyond me. But that'd bump vxUtil off the list for me.

Can you post phonepadvibrate here? I used it on my Hermes, but that file can for some reason not be installed on my Kaiser. Thanks in advance.

BTW I found the vibrate on my Hermes lagging and slow sometimes, resulting in multiple keypresses due to my impatience. Is it faster on the Kaiser?

edit: Can iLauncher work with SPB Diary and SPB Weather, integrating them into one tab, like PocketPlus does? Does iLauncher support multiple rows of icons? In PocketPlus, it all has to fit in one row, making it impossible to use large icons on my 11 tabs (yes, I know, I am a bit anal) and the little icons are hard to hit with my thumb.

My list:
1. TomTom Navigator
2. PHM regedit
3. Total Commander
4. GPSViewer
5. Spb PocketPLus
6. SPB Weather

Where can i find phonepadvibrate?

rschwed
23rd October 2007, 04:31 AM
1. Microsoft Voice Command 1.6
2. AEButton Plus (you can launch virtually every program you want with hardware buttons)
3. Opera 8.65 (even though PIE is much improved these days -- add PIE Plus)
4. PocketPlayer for music (check out new version 3.5)
5. Spb PocketPlus (new version 4.0 is terrif -- unfortunately, you still need to combine it with -- and pay for -- Spb MobileShell 1.5 for best functionality -- while I'm at it -- I like Spb Weather too)
6. Mobipocket Reader for eBooks -- I've given up on Microsoft Reader (last version was 11/05 and it conflicts with ActiveSync). Mobipocket has been much improved over the last few years -- both in terms of formatting and response speed
7. Audible.com Player -- to listen to books or NPR archives ("Car Talk") on those long commutes.
8. TomTom Navigator (never tried GPS before the Kaiser, but it's pretty darn cool)
9. Sentry 2020 -- really simple and effective (and expensive) encrypter for entire volumes. Works with Storage Card
10. Sprite Backup -- essential - make a self-executing restore file for your Storage Card.

Gosh, up to 10, and haven't even gotten to MemMaid, SKTools, AcrossLite Mobile (for NYT crosswords, although I like the older Mobile Crossword 1.3), Zagat to Go, TCPMP (still the best video player), GS Finder (I like better than Total Commander), PHM Registry Editor or Google Maps.

Hope these help suggest some possibilities!

And while I'm at it, the TouchPal keyboard mentioned above (www.cootek.com) is fantastic (and free). I had been (and am) a TenGo fan, but I'm afraid this one, especially after it gets above version 1.0, may be the winner. Put it on the HTC Touch and you have a winner (of course, only after you double the memory and processor speed to get to Kaiser like power...)

I've noticed that a few people list Avantgo. Is there a trick to getting it to work?

When I try to use it, the installation seems to go fine but when I try to open the application on my Kaiser it immediately closes it down. I've tried soft resetting, removing and reinstalling and installing in phone memory and on the storage card.

Hi, here are my top apps.

1. S2U2
2. S2V
3. S2P
4. Opera Mobile 9.5
5. Total Commander
6. Batterystatus aka HomeScreen++ or what it's called now (today plugin)
7. UltimateLaunch (today plugin)
8. TodayAgenda (today plugin)
9. MN6 or TomTom respectively
10. TCPMP

they are out of order, so don't blame me for setting S2 apps for 1-3 :D I like these apps all the same way.

Further there some other apps I like, like PIMBackup and stuff like that. But no ultimate must-have.

Anyway, I wouldn't settle too much before trying the apps. Especially if this is your Windows Mobile first time (somebody might call you virgin :P ). Try out as many you want of a category and then choose. Like for contact management. Some like PocketCM, some like iContact and others might like something else. Play around with the apps and choose what you like. That is what I did and still do. And I have my Kaiser for quite a few months now. There are so many cool apps out there, so you possibly won't stick to a Top10. Maybe a Top20 would be more sufficient for most users, because there are many little apps which make life easier, like the light or sound toggle apps. They do nothing else, but are some nifty and usefull tools to play around with.

well, so far ... have fun with your kaiser :D I hope I could give you the idea.

I think a lot of people like the SPB Screenshot too. I think it's free, though I don't know as I don't really use it. I really have no use for it, noone wants pictures of what I do or what my phone looks like. Guess what, it looks just like everyone elses! :p

One of the other players that I really like is Core Player. Mostly because it can handle all of the videos that I throw at it. I haven't tried the TCMCP or whatever it is, but I like the Core Player.

What I want from a phone is a device that is easy to use. I do not care if it is pretty, I just want it to work.

I keep the phone in my pocket inside an aluminium case with a transparent front panel. This makes touching the screen hard, so it is important that I can see just see when there are new things and trigger the ability to see them on the screen with a button push or two. I therefore want one-handed use wherever possible and getting the stylus out is a pain, so as little of that as possible too.

I have free 3G/GPRS data, 1000 SMS and 600 minutes per month.

Here are the top 10 things that I have installed. Where things cost money I have provided the alternative I would use if I was not allowed to pay money.

1. SPB Pocket Plus. Alternative Throttle Launcher.
2. SPB Phone Suite. Alternative KaiserNotification.
3. Total Commander
4. Opera 9.5. Alternative Opera Mini 4.
5. Google Maps
6. BatteryStatus
7. HTC Large Start Menu
8. Vito FunContact. Alternative PocketCM
9. Mohairsoft Calendar+ Today Plugin
10. Sprite Backup. Alternative PIM Backup

How does this all work with my specs... well. 4, 7 and 8 are finger friendly. SPB Phone Suite I consider essential due to WM being duff and it shows what I want in a Pocket Plus tab (so I can see it through the case window), along with BatteryStatus. Total Commander is just the best file manipulation app around (Resco isn't bad, just Total is better and free). Similar story with Google Maps, I did have Garmin XT which I borrowed off my Dad, but it was just too much. I don't drive much at the moment and I was not overly impressed with the GPS signal strength.

Calendar+ may seem like an odd choice, but it works how I want. Things like PocketBreeze (bought it on offer, gave up using it) are ok, but they are too PDA. What I *need* is a summary of what I am meant to be doing now and when I press it I get a detailed view.

Sprite Backup came free with my Mini S many moons ago and Pocket Plus has saved my ass on a couple of occasions.

And I also have TCPMP, SPB Weather, Vito Audio Notes, SPB Insight, Flash plugin, Omnia driver, Freecell, PicoDrive and HTC GPS Tool currently installed, but they didn't make the list.

I also paid for PocketBreeze, Vito Winterface, and SPB Mobile Shell. All of these are not installed.

no thanks. IMO reminiscent of spb mobile shell, touchflo, and the like once the novelty wears off they are abandoned.

Sorry, no can do as it is commercial.

Well yes it's commercial, but you can get a full-use trial (http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/keyboard/downloads.asp) and test it out.

1>Manilla 2D (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425851)
2>Icontact Burt edition (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=402724)
3>Skype for WM6.1x
4>G-Alarm... for those who need to wake up & or are hard to wake up
5>World Card Mobile> OCR business card software. Take a pic of a business card & it will put the name/# in your contact list automatically.
6>Pocket RAR Mainly for setup/installing files on your phone, but nice to keep just in case.
7> a GPS software... any will do, its a personal choice.
8>MyMobiler- control your pocketPC from your desktop computer. I use it when I want to txt from my computer & charge my phone @ the same time :D
9>Resco Radio internet radio I think the program costs, but the channels are free.
10>MP3Trimmer- cuts ur mp3 files so that you can use a small light ringtone
11>MSN Messenger
12> Office mobile -like office, only mobile
13>Advance Config 3.x (makes an XML file that will optimize your WM device, namely battery life :D )
14>Google maps (in manilla) sucks for a GPS device, but great for searching for places... then using the address in your GPS software.
15>PIM backup. Back up your contacts, SMS's, setup, etc...
16>RSS hub.(grab news feeds from your favorite site(s) )
17>Reg Editor - great for hacking/tweaking windows, because it NEVER runs optimized out of the box
18>Total Commander -like windows (desktop file explorer 10times better than the WM one)
19>SMS Scheduler - sets group SMS's and can set times to send out SMS's.
I use this daily to send out SMS's to people while I'm asleep :P
20>M2CD... edit and modify your manilla ... (themes, re-arrange tabs, etc)
21>Opera- almost a great mobile browser now...
22> Internetsharing. most new ROMs will have this cooked in.
23> Games
I started to link up the app's ... but then a quick search should find them all for ya... the bulk of them are in AllTheWays or PTater's 4shared bin.

Just wondering what ringtone managers people are using? Used to use MRing when I was using HTC Home and that worked fine, but using Manila2D now and MRing doesn't wanna work anymore... Dunno if it needs to be on today screen or not. Anyone using Manila and a ringtone manager? Any help would be greatly appreciated...
