Well I loaded in the new sprint rom last night, and now my phone is completely useless. The radio has major problems, my signal goes from nothing to 4 bars, back and fourth, and the phone goes into permanent sleep mode when I let it sit. I found this out when I woke up this morning and missed 10 calls from a client havign an emergency overnight... wonderful. I have it sitting here on the desk, and it will go to sleep and require a reset every hour or so.

I haven't had any of those problems.
WM6 lag is basically gone now and the keyboard lag is gone.
Everything is WAY more responsive and the memory leaks seem better so far.

The memory "leak" / Cacheing is more managable, and the device isn't as laggy.
I've had no problems at all. I'm loving it.

my MOGUL also goes into Perminant sleep if I let it sit.
i've had to take out the battery about 4 times just today.

Got the same problem installed last night. Woke up got into the car and checked phone sleeping had to soft start. Then same thing at least 3 times today. Also watched a short video in MP and it was show a few sec then sleep. Soft start and then you could watch it. Seems like after being on for a couple of hrs phone runs out of memory or something a freezes up?

Check your power setting setup, maybe it's set to turn the device completely off after 1min etc... For some reason my phone never shut off even if I let it set idle for more than 30 mins like it was set to do. Perhaps with the ROM update it actually does what it's supposed to now. Just an idea.

it's not supposed to TURN OFF as in shut down, it's just supposed to sleep. and it never comes out of sleeping mode. i've had numerous other problems, with bluetooth, etc... going back to Colonels rom, which was much more dependable.

i too loaded it yesterday as well, but i want to wonder if you did a hard reset before you installed the rom. i did it, and it gave me no problems at all with radio version 1.47.00... oh, and the phone automatically cuts off when the alarm goes off while you charge it overnight (a big no-no, but you probably know this as well, but i ain't mad at ya). if you got anything, feel free to PM me. thanks in advance.

Mine's still leaking, badly too.

Any of you try to use BT on this new rom?
If you did you'd know that this rom is worthless:(

The culprit appears to be the 1.47 radio. The 1.47 radio coupled with any rom version will experiance sleeping, bt and other problems.... so I am rolling back to 1.40 radio to see how it acts

As a tech in a corporate sprint store, i'd be interested in the details behind this "sleep mode" issue. What are ppl running? How can I, in the store, reproduce the problem? Is it reproducable on command or guaranteed, or is it hit or miss?
As I've said, I have the new Rom and Radio, and have no new issues, and the memory "leak" / cache issue isn't gone, but its definetly not as bad, the OS even seems to have a SLIGHTLY smaller ram foot print... maybe just a few megs smaller, but smaller on my device.

I tried that. The 1.40 radio with the new ROM still had all the new bugs.

I have found that if I push the power button to put the phone to sleep when it stops working, then turn back on, the d-pad works again. This seems to get it back to working. I wish that they could just get it right...
Jim
How do you get the new ROM?

I haven't updated yet, plan to over the weekend, but I would suggest anyone having problems to stop and consider their setup first...
What programs are installed that could cause problems?
What registry hacks have been done that may cause problems?
What configuration settings might need reset that may cause problems?
For example, after a hard reset, Enhanced Network over USB is enabled by default, and this often causes Active Sync to have issues. Likewise, power management tweaks will have reverted to defaults and you may like a more finely tuned setup.
As for memory leaks being better/worse, you may have programs installed that are out of date/buggy.
I realize it's easier to jump on the "this sucks" bandwagon, but it doesn't help you or other users with legitimate problems when no consideration is given to what is causing a given problem.
These situations are precisely why the instructions tell you that EVERYTHING will be erased. This is a good thing since it forces you to clean house, but it also means you have to pay attention to those things you often neglect or may have changed ages ago and forgotten.
Finally, if all else fails, try the ROM update again. Sometimes things go wrong.
Sorry if this seems like a rant, I just want people having issues to place blame where it truly belongs. After considering these matters, if you still have problems, definitely let HTC and the rest of us know.
Best Regards,
Aaron

Sorry, it's not anybody's installed programs. The bugs show up with nothing else but the bare ROM.
It's a train wreck.

There are more details on ppcgeeks and pdaphonehome -
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=10366
Basically, on a stock ppc-6800 phone with nothing else installed, the BT keeps shutting off.. For me whenever a call comes in or after using my headset for a few minutes on an outgoing call...

I installed the new ROM after backing up with SPB Backup, then installed my backup file back on and I haven't noticed any issues. I don't use bluetooth however, so I can comment on that. But, I haven't had the sleep issue others are describing either.

I don't have any reason to doubt anyone's experience, but anything "out of the box" probably isn't going to suit your needs. I don't know why anyone who reads a tech-oriented forum would feel differently... afterall, that's probably why you're here.
I updated last night and have not had the issues described. Then again, after the update, I stopped customizations, installed my favorite apps (Inbox Extender, Voice Speed Dial, Adobe Flash LE, Schap's Advanced Configuration Tool, and X-Button 2.0. I installed my theme, ringtones, and then went into Settings and customized to my heart's content...
Specifically, I went in and customized my Bluetooth and Power settings to my preferences. Then I went into Schap's Advanced Configuration Tool and customized some settings there.
So again I say, stop and think about what you're doing (or even NOT doing). I mean good grief, it's bad when a Windows Mobile newbie such as myself shows up out of nowhere and has to point out how irrational some of you are. Out of the box configurations are almost never suitable for general use, regardless of product (just look at anything Apple or Microsoft releases).

Fact: some people are having legitimate problems with the ROM and some are not. (actually, my level of problems each time I flash the new ROM is different, leading me to start to believe it may be a race condition at the driver level).
Is your point that you (who are not having problems) are smarter and more experienced than those of us who are?
If so - LOL!

what rom version are you using and where can it be downloaded? I heard sprint was possibly releasing a new rom on oct 22nd, but i couldn't find anything... i'm currently using the 2.09 and it has its moments, but nothing terrible...

I updated last week and have had numerous lockups. I only use basic functions and have tried to monitor my use and what causes the lockup. It appears to be associated with the Radio transitioning between EVDO and 1X mode.

I noticed that on the previous version 2.09.651.3 anytime the phone would change from 1X to EV mode the music playing in Windows Media Player over Bluetooth A2DP to my Motorola S9 would cut out for anywhere between 2-10 seconds. I'm hoping that this new 2.16.251.0 firmware is going to solve this problem. I'll find out throughout the week while walking to work.

The problem I have after installing the new rom is the following:
when I lose Sprint signal (not roaming but no signal at all from working in a hospital) the phone will go to sleep and the power button will not turn the phone back on. I then have to do a soft reset.
I did have epocrates running on the phone but uninstalled it and still had the same problem.
I am going back to the prior rom.

No, jackass, my point is to diagnose the problem and make sure that it is the new ROM, and not something that was just reset during the update or a program that was causing a conflict.
That said, if you check the HTC download site, they have pulled the new update and reposted the previous versions due to "issues" with the update, so obviously they acknowledge that many people were having issues with the update.
I have not had any issues in my area, but when I was in Pittsburgh, my phone had several unexplained lockups. Now that I'm back home, it's working fine again... go figure.
Anyway, bottom line is if you're having problems... try downgrading. Otherwise, I stand by what I said before--- be thorough in checking your settings and programs for incompatibilities.
