Hi, guys,
Here's one from Kaiser newbie (sorry if there's an answer to this somewhere, tried, but couldn't find it):
Have a(n) (un)brand(ed) new Kaiser and this 2GB Micro SD Card. The thing is, no matter what I do, I can't force that bundled TT6 Navigator (or any other version, for that matter!) to install on my SD!!!
Before you ask, I need it because I am frequently commuting throughout Balkans, and (as if that alone wasn't enough ) the ONLY map TomTom released covering that area so far was v6.08 East Europe BETA which has around 170MB. There's a lot of local forums stating that it is quite operational, but needs a bit of tweaking to get it there, which includes puting both TT6 app and the Eastern_Europe-Map folder to the root of SD.
Piece-a-cake, I thought, but then I hit the wall... I do get to a point of being asked for an install location, but even if I select my SD card ("Storage card"), I end up with TT6 installed in default Program Files folder! Tried with ActiveSync, manual install, CabInst and some other reg-tweakers (promising to solve things but failing miserably), etc., to no avail.
Not just that app, to be specific, some other behave likewise, but then, there are also those that play along, so...
What gives?!?

Try making a "My Documents" folder in the Root of the SD card, then install there or if you already have the maps there, just copy the map folder into My Documents on your SD card.

Are you sure the actual app is installed in the devices main memory. When you install to the SD it still has to install some files on the device - such as the shortcut to the actualy program.

Well, tried that one up, as well as making SD card "Program Files", but doesn't work that way. I'm sure it's because after I move the "Navigator" folder from MyDevice Program Files to SD card, there's a plenty of registry keys still pointing out to the default location... The problem is I can't make ActiveSync to actually install the damn thing anywhere on SD card.

Yes, because I located several folders on MyDevice with TomTom related files, and NONE on my SD card...
Thanks anyway, guys, any help is appreciated.

Quick update:
I did the hard reset. I'll try out "fresh" install, maybe something got messed up in my registry, then I'm back with results - usefull if someone else out there have the same problem (and I've found quite a few of those unfortunate souls :D).

Yeah, this isn't going to work. The installation needs to go to the SD card in the first place.
Uninstall whatever it is you want on the card.
When you do the installation, make sure the card is in the phone. Connect your phone to your PC and don't immediately launch the installation. In WMDC or Active Sync, go to "Add/Remove Programs." There's a check box on the screen that will open that says "Install applications to default location" or something along those lines. If you can uncheck it, do so (it's not available sometimes).
When you actually do the install, check the mobile phone - it should be prompting you for where you want to install the app. Select the radio button for the Storage card, and you should be good to go.

Ok, now this is ridiculous!
After a hard reset, tried to install TTN 6, and, when asked for an install location, selected "Storage card"... Nevertheless, the damn thing installed to the Mobile device instead (again, so I give up trying to put it on SD for good!), but, to my surprise, I have managed to start it up and it even recognized my map ("Eastern_Europe-Map" folder on SD card)! Boy, was I happy as a pig in the s... Simpsons Movie :p! Quited and started the app several times to ensure it's lock and loaded for good - yep, it was working all right...
But, guess what? After a later soft reset, TomTom hit me back with "No map found" again, seems like it has lost the "show-me-the-map-location-key-thingy" from the registry!!!
So, who da f#$% do I have to kill for this?

Try installing it from the sd card - ie put the cab files on the sd card and load it from there.

Thanx, tried that one already (described in my previous post), it got me closest to the goal, ie. that's how I got TT6 recognizing my map from SD card and working as a peach 'til next soft reset...
What could change in execution of an app after just reseting a device? The only thing coming to my mind is some Windows-style-run-once-regkey that screws things up, which makes no sense since the app should be legit, coming bundled with the Kaiser an all that...
Any idea?

I would guess it more to some registry settings remaining from the flawed installations.
Is there a setting in TT that tells it where to find the maps?

Right.
First of all - it's working. I don't know the apparent reason, but what i did was:
1) A hard reset.
2) None of that Spring Backup restore stuff. Although I used to restore just emails and personal database, left it out completely this time around.
3) Installed manually all of the usual tweaks, apps and stuff first, then put the TT6 cab down to my SD card again.
4) Synchronized my emails, contacts and the likes using ActiveSync.
4) Installed TT6 from SD card again, but before starting it for a first time, made a full Spring backup - the idea was, if the thing tends to work just for the first time it's started, I could easily restore it should it start loosing it again after a soft reset.
And that was it. Then started TT6, played around with it for a couple of minutes, and did a soft reset.... TA-DAAAAAH, it's up and running again and again, so no problem with it anymore.
Is it just me, or this makes no sense whatsoever, but, hey, it's working so why bother with it any longer.
Thanks a lot for your help, see you again in next week's episode of "I don't know how, but, hey - it's working now!" :D :D :D
Cheers.
