As per his own Wiki at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=DuttySeriesKaiser#FAQ

"WM 6.1 Compatible Radios:

Please note that in order for the ROM to perform correctly a Windows Mobile 6.1 compatible radio ROM must be installed. The ROM does NOT include a compatible radio."

Now I see the source of confusion - he needs to update his wiki. The APR9 version (now labelled APR16) does infact include a 6.1 radio :-)

Hope this helps.

OK I have done it.

Ran Hard-SPL but had to use Jocky's method as I got whitescreen.
.

Did you use 'JumpSPL' or another method ?

Also, can you have a quick look at my post HERE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2117861#post2117861) and see if you have a similar issue.

Cheers

I will test that for you later tonight...

On the HardSPL I just copied the JumpSPL1.56-KAIS.exe to the phone and ran it then followed the rest of the instructions

Thanks Starfury,

It appeared to work earlier today so I'm unsure what's happening with the video streaming - I might go back to the 1.58.16.27 Radio where I had no problems :-o

Thanks for the update on the HardSPL, I've added the link to Jockyw's JackSPL program in my original post so all Orange users can benefit from having an 'how to' page, that way no one should need to ask 'Avoid Orange Kaiser?? '.

Hi people. This is my first post on this forum.
This is the most useful thread iv read so far. I have a HTC TYTII from Orange. I was about to dash headlong into flashing it, till I found out about the possibility of simlocking it. I went ahead installing the HardSPL, no problem.

I then went ahead and flashed 3.0 Sleuth (thanks!!! :D) as it was stated that it did not flash the Radio.

I then it rebooted, and i noticed that it did infact change the radio (from 1.27.12.29 to 1.64.08.21) and fully expected it to end up sim locked. BUT HEY! ITS FINE!!! did I just get lucky with that? is it only some Orange TYTNII that end up sim locked?

I will be doing the sim unlock next ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361039 ). Ill let you all know how I get on.

Can some explain why I didn't get the simlock? just for my info.

Thanks alot for a very valuable resource everyone,
Regards, Dave

Just lucky I suppose :-/

Don't knock it ....

I think it's a bit like not crossing a busy road because you get told that you'll get run over, you could be unlucky and get knocked down but thats the risk.

I wasn't going to chance 'bricking' my phone so I can't say that it's a definate 'no no' - but there were enough people saying it would, and it makes sense as Apple have done something similar with the iPhone.

Unlocking was no big deal but I tested with a 'Virgin' sim before and then after and it was definately locked before.

Glad that the postings helped.

Read the Wiki's.

Try Olipro's solution (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375583) - he uses a UK Orange TyTnII
or you could use jockyw2001 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361039) Sim Unlocker

Please read the Wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=KaiserFAQ#Other)- they do actually have the answers contained in them.

Good Luck!

I merged this thread to the thread with instructions on what to do and a bunch of other redundant threads. I've also updated the first post to include Oli's and Jocky's SIM unlocker links.

Hopefully, this will stop the redundant Orange posts. If not, I'll just keep merging them :P

Thanks to all, just unlock the Orange TyTnII. I found the most important step is doing the HardSPL first, then follow the Olipro's solution, everything will smooth.

By the way, could anyone advise where to have Hong Kong or Taiwan Chinese ROM?

Hello all,

I´m looking to unlock my orange and I need some information just to be sure (Everyone is afraid on his first time :-) )

I have an Orange TYTN II with:
ROM: 1.81.61.2
Radio: 1.27.12.29
It came simlocked

I want to flash it with a new ROM and new radio. Also I will use it with a diferent carrier and diferent simcard.

The things I should know before flashing are:

1) No one have dumped yet the original Orange ROM, So I won´t be able to install it back after flashing
(Going to try to dump it using the method found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334680). I´ll post the results latter.

2) The same goes about the radio, but the above method of dumping roms doesn't work for radios.

3) There is a reconstruction Orange ROM here: It can be used if you need to return the phone but you'll have to find the radio Rom as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1586817&postcount=2

Since I want to unlock it to be used to other carrier I need to Sim-unlock it
Since I also want to flash it a new Rom I need to also CID-unlock it

So I did my homework and checked the forum in order to gather some information. Here is what I found so far:

I was having problems with activesync. So I went on the phone, START > SETTINGS > CONNECTIONS > USB to PC and unchecked the Advanced network funcionality before using the programs listed below

----
1) First step is to install Hard-SPL from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679

OBS: You can also use the Kaiser SIM/CID Unlocker & Changer as on its first ste it gave you the option to install the Hard-SPL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375583

To CHECK if you installed Hard-SPL enter the BOOTLOADER byt Pressing and holding the camera button and pressing the soft reset button

----
2) I have to unlock the phone using Kaiser SIM/CID Unlocker & Changer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375583

This program have the option to make the Phone SIM and CID Free
If I already have Hard-SPL I can start with step two

** I do not need to unplug and plug the USB cable while flashing ** (this is diferent from the direct Hard-SPL install).

After the phone reboots the radio should be: R1.70Olinex

2.1) I´ll have to run Step 3

The screen program will appear on the Kaiser. Since I have to unlock both SIM and CID I'll have to check both option when the SIM/CID unlocker screen appears on the Kaiser?

I'll have to leave the "00000000" (8 zeros) as the CID code

After this the phone will be unlocked and ready to accept new roms. I'll have to install a radio rom to replace the Rom that was installed to unlock it.

So see if the phone is SIM unlocked I just have to insert a diferent SIMcard, but how can I check if the Phone is CID unlocked??????

I can install a rom with a included radio like some of the duttythroy works

-------------------------

Can someone tell me if the above steps are right? Just want to make sure before flashing.

Does anyone know where to get one of these? Had no problems with Hardspl and then dutty's latest (or one of. Nice work btw - SIGNIFICANTLY faster).

Has anyone had any grief from orange for debranding?

this is plan B - plan A is get another unit and swipe the rom from that - I'll make sure I keep a copy in case anyone else asks this.

Apologies in advance if I failed to search properly or I am asking something naughty. Please link me rather than shouting "search" at me - i really did try.

i did the work for you !!!!

Here is the link that you need to follow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-340741.html

It has a rapidshare link for the reconstructed original orange tytnII rom.

I would like to welcome you to XDA as a poster but please bear in mind posting a thread WITHOUT searching is like waving a red flag in front of a bull... you are bound to get run over.

So read around; serach around; and learn from around here; there is alot of knowledge shared here by the community.

Happy Reading :D

Well I've been reading these forums for hours on end now, I know how to flash the TYTNII/Kaiser with a new ROM. But would like to know which ROMs other orange users are using? and are happy with? preferably OS only ROMs, as i dont want to pay out to unlock my phone, as its pricey enough as it is.

first of all if u hav been reading and KNOW how to flash .. than u should have "learned" that using tools from this website u can cid and sim unlock ur kaisef free of charge ... :D

secondly rom is dependant on ur choice and what u want in the rom. there r alot of roms u just need to try which one works better for u.

and since u read i am sure u remembered to flash hardspl onto ur device be4 u flash a rom ....

I purchased an Orange branded Kaiser. I have tried at least 20 ROMS in the last 4-5 weeks and my favourite so far is this one: -

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=389915

His V2 is also superb. Alex also does some excellent ROMs, but I prefer the battery life of Laurentius26's ROMs.

Good luck with your first flash! :)

how did you get on? i've just got hold of an orange tytnii as an upgrade and was thinking about a Dutty rom.

The orange original is, as always, rubbish and older than time itself. If they didn't give me such good upgrades i would go t-mobile.

Hello,
I recently decided that it was time to try a new ROM on my Orange Tytn II, I did a lot of reading on this forum and the wiki, i thought i was all set set.

I downloaded HardSPL, and teh recently released HTC WWE WM6.1 ROM.

However, at some point during the installation of hardSPL somthing went wrong there were no errors or anything, i thought that it was all set to go so i started the flash process.

After a few minutes I got Error (262) and after restarting the device my old ROM was wiped out. Problem is that i can not get any ROM to flash onto the device.

I have tried doing it via USB and microSD, but with any ROM exept for the one mentioned above It either hangs at 0% via USB and gives Error 262 or if via microSD it hangs on loading.

If i use the HTC one it gets passed loading, but says it's not allowed. the Same oen produces a similar error via USB. I can't find an official Orange ROM anywhere, and the reconstucted one i downloaded doesn't work either.

So i'm stuck, i can't sort hardSPL out unless i can flash a ROM to the device.

the information on the boot loader screen is:

RUUNBH
KAIS130
SPL-1.81.0000
CPLD-8
Serial

Any help would be greately appreciated.

you have ruu errors i.e bad sector blocks which can be cleared by using a program called mtty. i won't tell u the cmds for it simply cuz u can do more damage than good if u don't know what u r doing.

plz use search to find program and usage procedure and only than proceed.

Vista shouldn't be the cause. I've been running Vista since I got the Tilt. I've only flashed from XP a handful of times. (Like when I'm stuck at work and just have to have a new ROM)

Am I to assume from this that your phone is still locked to Orange and you just did HardSPL and then a ROM?

I don't want to SIM Unlock. I want to just HardSPL and then put on a ROM?

Is this possible?

Yes, see your/my other post answering this.

SIM unlock and Radio flashing are not the same.

Hello,

FANTASTIC FORUM - SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE OUT THERE!

I bought a UK orange TyTn 2 with HTC branding (just orange back cover) running standard orange software. The phone was second hand.
I have spent many hours reading threads (brilliant and very helpful if quite hard to get my head around) and finally managed to sim unlock, CID unlock, and flash my ROM with the latest HTC version (I think?) 3.28.405.0 WWE. Thank you to all contributors for your excellent posts.

During the process the helpful instructions from fellow forum members said, amongst other things, I had to flash a new radio version, then flash my original radio version (1.27.14.32) back again at the end. I could not work out how to flash my original radio version back again.

I tried using the phone with my Uk Vodafone sim card for a couple of weeks with the 'new' radio version 1.65.17.56 and it is mostly OK BUT the bluetooth signal strength is VERY low and my earpiece (Plantronics) has real trouble staying connected unless it is within literally 15cm of the phone. I tried the same earpiece with my Vodafone 1615 using the same vodafone sim card (basically the same phone as far as I understand it?) and it works fine so I deduce that it must be a problem with my Orange TyTn 2 requiring it's original radio version?
basically I don't understand the relationship between radio version, rom version and service provider (sim card).

1. Should I reinstate the original radio version that was on the Orange phone when I bought it?
2. Will the original radio version (1.27.14.32) work OK with my new ROM version (3.28.405.0 WWE) and a Vodafone UK sim card?
3. How do I change the radio version (can't find a link on how to do this)?
4. Can I change the radio version without master resetting my phone and losing all my data?

If you can help me i would be very grateful - thank you!
:p

Welcome to XDA - looks like you've done some research before jumping in with both feet and screwing your phone up :D

OK, to answer your questions....
1. Should I reinstate the original radio version that was on the Orange phone when I bought it?NO! The ROM you have installed is a Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM and the old radio was for 6.0 - it's almost certain to mess things up; most 6.1 ROM's have a minimum radio version that they need in order to work.
2. Will the original radio version (1.27.14.32) work OK with my new ROM version (3.28.405.0 WWE) and a Vodafone UK sim card?Hell no!! (See above)
3. How do I change the radio version (can't find a link on how to do this)?Look at the "Ultimate Radio Thread" (stickied at the top of the Kaiser ROM development forum and linked to here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393182)). Your ROM version - HTC WWE 3.28.405.0 is mentioned in post #3, together with a whole bunch of compatible radio ROMs. Start with the latest one listed (newest = best....well, usually it does!!) and see how you get on. Each will yield different results as far as signal strength, echo in call, battery life etc., so you may need to leave it on for a couple of days to get a feel for how well it's performing (though of course, if your BT headset is not working well, it probably doesn't matter how long the battery lasts!!!). Keep trying various radios until you find one that's the best for your needs.
4. Can I change the radio version without master resetting my phone and losing all my data?Yes!!! You can flash radios for a pastime without fear of trashing your data - the procedure for flashing a radio is the same as for flashing a full ROM, but it takes a matter of seconds rather than minutes.

Keep on with the reading; the XDA wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser) (for the Kaiser) is a great resource for finding answers to all the common questions and quite a lot of the more obscure ones too!

Good luck - and enjoy!

Mark.

Hi everyone, just wanted to add to this important thread.

Last night I tried to follow the sim-unlocker post - must have messed up something because I locked my phone to all networks then found that the radio version I had had was not available for download.

Much searching and I found this page (http://www1.orange.co.uk/download/htc/RUU_Kaiser_ORANGE_UK_3.28.61.0R_radio_sign_25.83.4 0.02_1.65.16.25_Ship.exe) that left me with an updated ROM Win Mob. v6.1 and radio 1.65.16.25 - phew. Finally at 0200 I was able to go to bed and sleep peacefully.

I'm gonna have another go though.

P.S. I like to make sure I keep all my CABs and copys of my PC's Sync folder in a backup folder on my sd card. Plus I try to install as much as poss. on the Storage card. It is _vital_ in that case that you take your card out before running this software as it says will completely clear all the storage. Did that before with my XDAii, ouch.
