Ok, I tried to install NoteM and it failed, I gave up on the stagnant software. But now my .mp3 file association are jacked up. No ring tones and when clicking mp3s I get the unassociated file notice. I copied in the settings for wav files to a new key called mp3file and modified a HKCR key for .mp3 to reference the new key mp3file... but I still cannot get a ringtone to ring...
Anybody have the original file association settings from the registry.?
Thanks.

Ok, I got the context menu restored. Borrowed the settings from WMAFile key. But the notifications area still will not play mp3s. Did I miss something?
Is this the right Forum to post these questions or should this be moved to the Herald > Herald forum?
thanks.

Yeah.
Ok here it is for any in the same boat.
1 Open Total Commander.
- navigate up a directory to your registry
2 Open HKCR
3 Find and Open .mp3
- it may not exist - NoteM deleted mine. If not there create a new KEY (dir)
- label it .mp3
4 Open .mp3
5 Create or modify your STRING value called Default
- insert a value of 'wmafile' (yes I know mp3 != wma but the phone does
- not care one way or another. And until someone steps to the plate with
- the actual values this will work)
6 Ring tones and Media Playing will now commence.
MS is pretty lame for using a registry but oh well.

Sorry for digging up this old thread, but this solution really worked when I uninstalled NoteM and lost mp3 ringtone capabilities. This was on my HTC Touch Dual (Niki)
I copied another registry entry to get it to work.
1. Opened registry editor.
2. Browsed to HKCR.
3. Added key "HKCR/.mp3"
4. Added value "HKCR/.mp3->Default" with data "wmafile" (yes, mp3file doesn't work, go figure, I just had to try. NOTE: Default is usually created automatically when creat)
5. Added value "HKCR/.mp3->Content Type" with data "audio/mp3"
6. Added value "HKCR/.mp3->PerceivedType" with data "audio"
Soft reset.
All working fine.
Thanks jonharrell
