Looks like the version number is still 1.15 in the index.php file. The readme.txt file is labeled version 1.14 also. Not to nit-pick, just thought you might want to know.

I haven't installed it just yet but was wondering how your setup allows me to set my GA account number for the tracker script? I can manually edit it, but others might not be able to.

Edit:Now after installing it I'm not seeing the option to set GA to on. I didn't see it in the config.php file. What am I missing? I'm sure it's only my ignorance with PHP. :\

It worked great this time. The only thing I noticed you might want to change for a future release to ensure they know the GA account number format. When I first installed I entered just my 7 digit number. This doesn't work since it should be a full set like this one: UA-4#####5-1.

What can I say, I'm just used to cut and pasting the whole GA code. I'm certainly not a coder. :) Thanks for your work though. I'm looking forward to your v2.0 release. :)

Check that your pictures have EXIF data with a creation date. If not, double check the file date of the files. The date should be close to the date of your GPS data when was uploaded.

I use that parameter internally to check the version of the server files.
If I make an update of the server files that makes the client not to work unless you update it, I increase that value. By doing that, when the old client access the server files it will get an error telling the user that he needs to update the client.

Maybe because your GPS data doesn't match the creation date of those pictures. If the time difference is too big, you will not get a match.

Well then that's likely the issue. See, I live at the oceanfront. No wonder my altitude is always off. :/ I'll have to lok at it when I'm at higher elevations. Thanks for the feedback though. :)

ny ideas of why I keep getting ?error messages when trying to upload images? I'm using my own server and it work in the past. Now when ever I attempt to upload a picture I get the generic error message for CF since I haven't installed the message pack.

My icons are working and all, just not the pictures. It fails when I attempt using both methods to upload images too. I'm mobile right now so I can't log into my server and verify permissions yet which is the only thing I can think of.

Any ideas to try? I'll insall the message pack to if it'll help at all.

I'm sorry but I don't know why you are having that problem.
Are you using Google Earth? Try it from there to see if you have the same problem with Live Tracking. At least that may give you some hints where the problem is.

The ASP.NET webserver is far from done and not ready for publishing. It's something I do in my spare time, and I don't have much of that. The server package will consist of 2 VB.NET classes, the first is for processing the TrackMe client requests, the other for the Webclient requests. I've about 1/3 of the code for the TrackMe Client Class and 1/4 of the code for the Webclient class. I've not started with the sample website... There is a long way ahead of me.

If you can't wait (and you shouldn't), you can install PHP and MySQL on a Windows server running IIS and run the PHP version you can find in post 1. It's only a basic web interface, but works like a charm!

I have no problem reading the PHP code, but I see the same error code used in more actions and there are actions that don't give back any error code. My tought was that you didn't implement all error codes in the PHP webserver. I noticed some brackets "()" in some errormessages in the the TrackMe client. Can I return extra info in some errors ("Result:6|Errormessage" or something)?

The Find Closest Buddy function gives me a rather weird distance (both the original PHP/MySQL as my ASP.NET/MSSQL). Right now it says 1786665163, that means my closest buddy should be driving on Ring 1 of around Saturn. That gives `A Far Friend is Worth More than a Good Neighbour' a whole new meaning. Did somebody notice this? Could it be caused by the language settings of my Win 2003 machine? I run the original PHP/MySQL and my ASP.NET/MSSQL on a Windows 2003 machine.

Hello ..

It me...I know its me......

I need to run my own server.(The data will be essential that I can back it up and keep it)

I installed suse10.3, apache2 and mysql5.01

Apache is working (I run some other web pages)
Connectivity is good (I host some game servers)
And the trackme server installed ok (The db table were created and the config.php has the good values.

Problem is when the mobile6 tries to update it displays a message cannot connect to db. When I swap it all back to your fine 'n dandy server it uploads ok.

I used the suggested path in the server readme ie webroot/trackme
and the permissioms have been set appropriately.

The apachelogs are not giving much away..other than complaining about undefined language variable in language.php....I am guessing that this is because there is no data in the db as yet.

Is there something I can check? Am I missing something obvious??

I don't have a domain or static IP i use dyndns...so my url is xxxxx.dyndns.org is this causing the issue?????

EDIT***Just been tinkering around. The apache2 access logs do show the connection from the mobile to the web server ...

So the dyndns cannot be the issue..It must be as is reported that it cannot connect to DB? But the install script worked like a charm and the tables have been created (The install was ran from another machine not local host)

Called ..../trackme/requests.php with the querystring above and it returned Result:4

When I hard code the DB variables into the request.php then it all works as expected...

So the require_once("config.php"); is not reading the variables on page load.

config.php is readable...any clues please

At the moment the server is working perfectly ;-) It would be nice to use the config.php as it was designed... Im sure its a php/apache config issue ;-)

Now the cheeky question, is there a way for me to unload the tracking data from your server and load it into mine???? (For my own journeys of course!)

There is not an option to do that, but if you want to I can go to my database and export all the data to SQL format, so you should be able to run that query on your server and insert that information.

I have a fujitsu siemens loox n560 and trackme worked without any problems until I installed the "GPS Instant Fix" from the fujitsu-siemens supportpage.

the patch is supposed to make the first gpsfix alot faster, because a programm lets you download the trajectory information of the satellites for the next 3 days. the firmware update for the sirf-III chip changed some settings from the gps interface. before the fix the software-port was com8, hardware-port com4 and the baudrate was at 9600 and when i used com8 and 9600 in trackme it worked just fine. but now after the firmware update the default baudrate is set to 57600 (same hardware & software com's). I can't choose 57600 in trackme so I manually changed the loox gps interface settings to 9600 to see if that works in trackme, but it doesn't. (other programs like the gps-locator or navigon are still working fine and the fix is actually faster then before the firmware update).

when I choose the software-com(com8) & 9600 in the trackme settings (gps interface settings at 9600 or 57600) and I go back on the first screen and click on the gps "startbutton", my pda freezes. when I choose the hardware-com (com4) in the settings of trackme and then hit "start", the pda won't freeze and i see the gps indicator led flashing, but I can wait half an hour without getting a connection to a satellite.

do you guys think trackme could work if there would be a baud setting for 57600 ? trying other com's wont work either...

I hope someone can help me with this, i would so love to use trackme again. there is no downgrad available from fujitsu, so I cant get back to the original factory settings... :(

I'm still having trouble getting this picture thing to work. I've changed the "pics" folder to 777 and any other combo just to try different things. I've used my FTP client and also my server control panel (cPanel) to set the permissions. Nothing seems to be working.

Why on earth would I still be getting this error? The owner is blank so this shouldn't be an issue.

I think this issue started about the time I updated to the latest version of the server file set but I'm not sure. Nothing else has changed.

If you are storing your data remotely, just uninstall the TrackMe client and install it again.

Anyway, did you try to do what is mentioned in the first item of the FAQ?
Maybe that will resolve your problem.

i already tried various settings ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1729037&postcount=1211 ) but none seem to work. the default was gps program port 8 and gps hardware port 4... (manage gps automatically is checked) navigon for example works just fine when i use com8 in the navigon settings and other applications work fine with com 8 too. but when i try using it in trackme it just freezes :( when i try com 4 in trackme (which is my hardware port) the gps indicator led starts to flash like it does in other gps applications and trackme does not freeze... but it wont get a connection to any satelites... trying the settings like in the thread from the faq wont work either...

is available under Config->General (Advanced settings)

I have tried it on 2 different PDAs, one with WM5 and another with WM6. It works fine on both. I hope you guys don't have any problems either.

I just got my Touch enabled with GPS over the weekend, so i started playing with TrackMe. Overall its very,very nice, and seems to be solid (although my gps at this point isnt :p). I do have a few questions though.

1) Using an NMEA log file from my gps, I was able to create a .kml file that would actually give me time navigation in GE, so I could allow the .kml waypoint to move through the path in time, animating. Is that possible? Am I doing something wrong where I cant see the time navigation? (note this question isnt for the real time tracking


2) Is there a problem storing gps positions every 15 secs, or even every 10? I assume on a 3g bandwidth there shouldnt really be an issue.

3) What do your server stats look like? :)

4) I tried the send position by email today, and it did not work. This is due to the fact that I am running flexmail. Anychance of getting that to work with flexmail?

5) I see where you can change the gps sampling rate, but cannot see where the settings is to tell how frequently to upload to the server. I take it that is not a configurable event. I could see wanting to hold on to the data and only transmit upwards of 5/10 min bursts, although I really dont know how useful this would be.

I read through about 10% of the posts before I couldnt take it anymore :) Congrats on a really great program. Ive used it in conjunction with other gps apps and it rides along just fine.

There are several reasons. One is because when you use the web viewer it will take a long time to load if you have so many positions (just imagine a 5 hour trip with all those positions) The same with Google Earth. It also looks very cluttered. On the other hand, since most users are using my free server and I already have thousands of users it could make the server to respond slower.

I haven't checked that in a long time. Not sure now.

Nope does not work. If one clicks on the individual waypoints the bearings,
altitude, position show up, but in the upper right I see no time navigation display. Note this is for prerecorded tracks. From a nmea log converted with gpsbabel I do see the time navigation and can animate through the whole track. Its not a huge deal as I am just playing around.

Cool thanks. I found a workaround was to sms to myself and then pull it up in flexmail and forward it, but that is somewhat clunky.

On another note, my company's websense has you blocked, so I cant show anyone your excellent app. Grr I might have to go get a godaddy webhost and attempt to install it myself. Although I have no experience with php or mysql, I have friends who do, so I might be able to pull it off.

I agree with you that it would be cool, but for me it is not unnecessary. I took that to be Darth's request, because he was worried about datacharges over gprs, and would rather send 1 burst hourly or so (although the data traffic should be roughly the same I would think)

I agree that feature can be useful sometimes. However, if you plan to upload data every hour you are not really interested in realtime tracking.
For that reason, I think it's better to keep what we already have, and select manually when you want to upload offline positions.

In order to do that, just go to the Remote tab, Offline Data and select 'Always'
When you are ready to upload that offline data, just select the option 'Upload Offline data'

hey guys... just to let you know that I'm already working on a version that extracts the GPS info from pictures so you can match those pictures with existing data.

bad news. I haven't found a way of doing this yet. There are not libraries that retrieve that information from an image file. At this moment I think the only way is going directly to the file and try to find that information from there which can be complicated... I think I will leave this for later. :(

What else do you guys really want in TrackMe? You can check my to-do list and let me know what you consider more important.

I've downloaded TrackMe and it looks to be a good program...but I do have some problems with it. Is there a way to install it to run in the background? When you click the X at the top right it should not close the application.
Maybe you are using a program that does that by default.

There is an option in Configuration to minimize TrackMe as soon as it start so it will work in Stealth mode.

There is not anything to start the program when WM starts though. But you can do that by adding a link to the program in the start folder.

Just a word of caution - I just got a mogul and the default 'X' behavior is to actually kill the app. This can be turned off in settings. The god-awful battery life of the mogul (as compared to my old treo) was what drove me to use TrackMe instead of navizon, 3dtracking, etc - the 'disconnect/connect gps' option allows me to get a good 10+ hours of live 5-minute updates out of the standard 1500ma battery.

This is a fantastic application (and service)! Thank you so much for it!

well, this stealth mode feature is really nice. at the moment, i'm using trackme on a polaris and it's working fine. the only thing is, that the orange LED is flashing because gps is active. it would be 'real stealth' if the light wouldn't flash. i know that there are apps out there which can change this. it's possible to change colors and maybe turn them off completely (i'm not sure about this) and i don't know, if it can be done without restarting the device. would be nice if trackme would turn the gps LED off only while it's running in stealth mode. ( but this is only an idea, not a request... as i have no idea if there are LEDs on a kaiser actually ;-) )

so far, really great app! it's so much fun using it!

i'm sorry, if i was misunderstood. others might need this proxy feature, but as there was only one other person (from germany as i remember) who requested this, i thought i had to say something about it. if there are people out there waiting for staryon to build this proxy thing, they should post it...

and i'm not really sure how i would use this stealth mode. i would definitely not use trackme as a spy tool, as i am only running it on my phone and i never EVER give away my phone! ;-) ... but if it got lost, or worse: if someone steals it, it would be usefull, if trackme runs in the backround and "calls home" every hour maybe... i'm not quite sure, why this stealth mode was requested in the first place, but i think, if it's invented this far, make it complete... :cool:

I did, and the error still persisted. What I didn't take into consideration (even though I didn't think it would make a difference) was that had Internet Sharing enabled over USB with my laptop enabled. I disabled it, and the program started to work. I then resumed Internet Sharing and everything has been great since then.

I'm having some problems implementing the picture upload. I can 'post' pictures to my upload.ashx file fine, but TrackMe gives me HTTP error 500. Can you tell me how you implemented this in the TrackMe client?

One of the hardest parts, translating the SQL commands to VB LINQ (and fine tuning the MS SQL databse) is done, the only trouble is translating the findclosestbuddy function in LINQ, I'm thinking about not implementing this at all...

Yesterday I've ordered 2.6 KG of paper, bundeled and named "ASP.NET 3.5 Unleashed", maybe that will speed things up a little...

I was switching from trackme back to camera and I really don't know what happened. All I know is that there was a message on the screen saying that all prior data had been deleted.

I'd like to therefore ask (as a feature request, I might even PAY for it) a couple of options. First, it'd be nice for some confirmation message before deleting data. Next, maybe a backup option or periodic upload option? For instance, if I could say "upload" or "write to a new file" every 10 minutes, that would be nice.

Any other thoughts?

With this new version, when uploading offline pictures, TrackMe will try to retrieve the GPS information stored in the file and it will compare it with the existing positions that are on the server.

If the closest position is too far, it will try to get the time when the picture was taken by looking at the exif data. If it doesn't exist or it's unable to match it, the time from the file itself will be taken.

For people using their server:
I have made changes in requests.php

By the way, at this moment I am only processing one format of GPS data from the exif data. It seems that depending on the GPS model this information may be stored differently. The one that I am able to read is like this:
N 39d 1m 35.00s

If your GPS is storing this information differently just let me know and I will add the new format to TrackMe.

I'm sorry for what happened. When deleting positions a confirmation message pops up. So it seems that the option YES was also pressed accidentally while you were running.

Regarding the backup feature... is difficult to do. If you are using your own server I suggest you to configure it to make backups automatically. I think that´s possible to do, but I have never tried it myself.

I basically send a HTTP post command with a form. This form contains the picture. The header of the HTTP request is this one:

1. From TrackMe, in the About window you can download the latest version and be installed automatically.
2. A Geofence is a virtual fence around a designated area that is determined by the user. You can send an email or SMS when the user enter/leaves the area.
3. This program is not really intended for that but I think that from the web viewer there is an option when you get the total distance of a trip. Not sure
about that because I haven't written that plugin.
4. Yes, check my previous post where I explain how EXIF data from an image is used.

I will try out the new photo mode although I dont know if it will work on my vogue or not. Thanks for trackme in its current form. I may attempt to install a server in the near future so I can increase the upload rate to 15secs. (+ so I can get around websense at work) It is definitely a very nice app as is. I've just had a little play with this, it sure is a sweet app :)

What settings are people using for when walking or for riding?

In the end for riding I just had it updating every 5 seconds and disabled don't store consecutive points.

One nice feature is using a kml -> gpx converter then importing into mapmyride.com, then set start points and it gives you distance, elevation etc.

ok guys... after many many hours trying to get this I finally found a way of
retrieving the GPS exif data from a jpeg file.

With this new version, when uploading offline pictures, TrackMe will try to retrieve the GPS information stored in the file and it will compare it with the existing positions that are on the server.

If the closest position is too far, it will try to get the time when the picture was taken by looking at the exif data. If it doesn't exist or it's unable to match it, the time from the file itself will be taken.

For people using their server:
I have made changes in requests.php

By the way, at this moment I am only processing one format of GPS data from the exif data. It seems that depending on the GPS model this information may be stored differently. The one that I am able to read is like this:

If your GPS is storing this information differently just let me know and I will add the new format to TrackMe.

Check you tables to see which one does not have info. And let us know, this will help with the troubleshooting.

Would it be possible to add a "searching for satellites" timeout option that would be in effect when the "disconnect/connect" option is enabled? I was at the eye doctor today and trackme drained my battery because it was searching for satellites the entire time and I didn't catch it. I'm thinking that if satellites are not found within the set timeframe, trackme will shut off the GPS, wait for the specefied time between connections and then try again.

It's a good idea. I think I will end up adding that feature. However, as I mentioned in one of my previous posts I'm going to stop adding new features for a while, and I will be only fixing existing bugs. I will add it to the to-do list though.

This program is not really intended for that. I mean, it's possible, you can run it in stealth mode and check from the web where the phone is, but I'm sure that there are other programs that are more specific for what you need.

Sorry but that's not possible.
You shouldn't have changed to local mode. You can keep using remote mode, and enable the option to store the data offline. In the remote tab in Configuration you can configure all that.

I have set the program to 'local' mode, so it just generates any coordinates to a local 'route.kml' file which I can look at in google earth on my pc. My question is if I have made multiple routes only the last route shows up in google earth. Does the program overwrite the route.kml for each new route?

or does it overwrite with each new coordinate?

Probably yes. Offline data, GeoFence and GPS positions (when working in local mode) are stored in the file local.sdf and that file will be replaced with every new version because I may modify it sometimes. Sorry about that.

Sorry but TrackMe doesn't do that. You have the 'Find nearest buddy' feature but that's not really what you want. That will only tell you how far is the closest user using the server.

but i don't want phone always transmitting, so a 1 or 2 minutes transmission will safe battery life. Many softs run like that.

I plan to have offline data store when offline, and transmitting as soon as cell network is ok. cause "no gap" required too...

But if you don't want... i will understand.

I wanted an easy way to view the KML uploaded by TrackMe to luisespinosa.com on a different WM device. The only option I found was Google Maps for Mobile, which can display KML. It works but doesn't include all the description. I thought it would be nice to have a quick way to see the map without loading GMM. I wrote a tiny little app that loads a KML file and displays the last 3 points using the Google static maps image API. I think this makes it much easier for someone to see your location in Pocket IE.

I think I found where the problem is.

Windows Mobile 6 already comes with a port splitter enabled which Kaiser and Tilt users are already using by default.
If you go to START->SETTINGS->SYSTEM, there is a tool called 'External GPS' (aka GPS Intermediate Driver)
If I run it, I see the following:


My actual built in GPS port is COM5, using the built in port splitter my virtual GPS port is COM8

If I start up TrackMe!, and set the GPS port to be COM8, when I click the Green Arrow, my device hangs - have to do a soft reset.
TrackMe! set to COM5 works fine, but then I cannot run TomTom at the same time.

TomTom works fine with either COM5 or COM8 as its GPS port.

I have a HTC X7500 ( Athena ) running WM 6.1 (AP4.0).

Anyone else seen the same problem?

Hi folks,

First of all: this is a great program, compliments to the author!

I have installed a clean copy of TrackMe on my Tytn II and that worked well. I also installed the php-server files in post 1 (installation package) to upload the data to my own server. That worked out well: database tables created successfully. I also inserted the API key when I opened the install.php file (API-key registered on my root domain, not a subfolder such as trackme).

I edited the settings on the config - remote tab in TrackMe to match my server settings and also inserted a username and password. After that I started trackme.

The error message I receive when trackme is starting the first upload after 30 seconds: Error uploading position: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error


BTW I think that the username and password are not inserted in the MySQL database I use. I am not really into php and mysql but when I look into the database using phpmyadmin, I can't find the username and password that I inserted in Trackme.

Do you have any idea what I might have done wrong?

BTW, when using the default settings from luisespinosa everuything works well. Trackme does upload the data and I can watch the data on luisespinosa.com as well.

What does TrackMe use to upload images to the server? I'm still trying to figure out why my server is forbidding my phone to upload when I have the pics folder set to 777.

yeah... I think it's not really necessary to have another application to do the same thing. You can get that just by using TrackMe and doing what you suggested.

So I contacted my host to see if they knew what the issue was and here is my reply:

mod_security is installed on your server and it is catching the upload requests because part of the MIME "package" that gets sent to the server was missing.

Was this script working previously and this just started happening?

My last photo that was uploaded was on the 3rd of April. They have all failed since then. Is this something you can help with staryon? I have no idea what package is missing.

And when you are ready to upload just go to Tools->Upload Offline Data

This isn't as much for you staryon as it is for others who are facing this same issue as me. Here is the explanation from my hosting Admin:

From the error logs, we could see that the problem was caused due to mod_security. We've made certain changes in the .htaccess for the domain and the security access blocks for the domain are thus removed.

Please recheck if everything works as desired. :-) Thank you for your co-operation, understanding and patience in this matter.

I've tested it a few times over now and I can upload pictures again. Seems that my host set the mod_security thing and it blocked my uploads. All is well now for me. Those others with this issue might want to check your .htaccess and mod_security settings.

I've tested it a few times over now and I can upload pictures again. Seems that my host set the mod_security thing and it blocked my uploads. All is well now for me. Those others with this issue might want to check your .htaccess and mod_security settings.
