I like this application, but the GPS uses a lot of power. If I set the upload interval to be long (15,30,60 minutes), could the application turn off the GPS between uploads? Then I could find a compromise between battery life and up to date position.
Thanks for the cool app!

Yes, there is an option for that. Go to Configuration->GPS

Here the are lines from the log when the problem occurs. As you can GPS time is still correct on UTC, but local time goes bazurk. The time changes after 16:08:17 to 08:37:41
[18/06/08 16:03:16] $GPGGA,140315.0,5145.311873,N,00517.189096,E,1,07, 1.4,59.5,M,,,,*30|51.7551978833333|5.2864849333333 3|59.5|18/06/08 16:03:16
I don't really use the GPS time (I think I should though) I just take the time that you have on your PDA in Windows Mobile. To be honest I have no idea why it changes. I never saw something like that. Check your regional settings, just in case you see something strange...
It's weird because as far as I know nobody had that problem before.
Sorry I cannot help you more.

New version available!!
- Added option to LOCK THE DEVICE when Screen Off is clicked.
- Now you can Delete Positions and Export Positions from the Manage Trip window.
- Some icons have been reallocated.
I think the lock device feature is very useful. It took me a long time to find out how to do it but I finally got it to work. You can use that if you use TrackMe while jogging or biking.
Hi,
first of all: very nice program, I like the future to do this on your own webserver (instead of a commercial site). Keep up the good work.
What I am wondering is how a program like WIMP (Where Is My Phone) does work. With WIMP, your PDA is in standby (so NOT only the screen is off), but when you send a SMS to that PDA, it wil not come out of standby, but it does get a GPS fix en send it to another phone.
Isn't there a possibility that such thing can be done with your program. So every x minutes the phone will get a GPS fix and sent it to the server while the PDA is in standby.
I know this has been asked before, but WIMP rised the question for me how that specific program has managed to left the phone in standby mode while getting a GPS fix and send it to another cell phone....

perhaps you can use dateoccurred for GPS time (UTC) and dateadded for local time.
I found a pda setting which can set time/timezone automatically. I've disabled this option.

New version available!
- Positions are now exported in reverse order. Some people were
complaining that the 'Play Tour' feature wasn't working in Google Earth
because of that.
- Some code cleaning and minor fixes.
For people using their own server I have updated the file export.php

Hi again,
here the format with timestamp how it is expected by GeoSetter.
<Placemark>
<name>226</name>
<visibility>false</visibility>
<TimeStamp><when>2007-09-12T15:07:27Z</when></TimeStamp>
<Point><coordinates>13.41101300,52.55223700,112.0</coordinates></Point></Placemark>
But maybe you will overcome this by implementing the gpx format ;)
Hi fesi,
I have been doing some testing including the timestamp. However I have noticed that it doesn't show up in Google Earth. Does this happen to you as well?
Thanks

Sorry but as I said I don't plan to add support for that. I did some testing sometime ago and I didn't really see a great difference. What really makes the difference is if the screen is on or not.
If you worry a lot about your battery you can enable the automatic GPS disconnection between uploads.

Great application, btw. I need to remember to donate when payday rolls along at the end of the week....
Anyhow, two requests:
1. When you upload your CAB to the website, it would be GREAT if you could name the file with a version number. I have been adding a date to the filename when I download, but without a version number or timestamp it can be a little confusing.
2. When you manually export data to a file, last I checked it always did so to the same filename. Similarly, it would be nice if the exported GPS data file included a timestamp in the filename. Otherwise it is really easy to overright data.
Thanks again! And I will get that donation in for this GREAT app!

Dear author of this thread and trackme app.
.....is their a way to mak this thing work with TomTom or any other real gps navigation program? or maybe evn microsoft live maps.
the problem is the only way to use Googlemaps is you have to be connected to a datc onnection (i.e att data plan or t-mobile internet) or the maps wont show up....its not like microsoft live maps where youc an save the locations and map areas youve visited with the cache save option...i only use wifi on my phone and i know theirs a whole lot of other people who refuse to pay for internet and googlemaps is basically useless to us on the go. Also i use TomTom7 religiously anyways, why bother with second rate map applications, but if you can answer my question about trackme that would be great, thanks

staryon & all who have contributed, as many have said already, awesome work !! :D ... i had been playing around with Mologogo, and TrackMe blows it away !!
in the last couple of days i've read 1,600+ posts, but i still have a couple of questions:
1) does rebooting of the device cause trip data to be reset? for example, i want to track a trip, so i create a trip name, "Vacation"....i travel along recording GPS locations, then stop for the night....i turn the phone off for the evening, and restart it in the morning to continue my trip...i start up TrackMe and continue using "Vacation" as the trip name....but it seems TrackMe then starts recording the new day's tracking data over yesterday's data....is this normal?....is there any way to continue tracking a trip after the device has been rebooted?...or must the device be kept on for the duration of the whole trip?...i'm using an HTC Mogul (PPC-6800)
2) i understand why "GE always shows the current position", but is there any way to save trips in GE, without having to do a trip export from TrackMe each time you want see a prior trip in GE?...basically, like how the Google Maps module works, with a drop-down box allowing you to choose from previous trips

I cannot do that because otherwise you wouldn´t be able to download directly from TrackMe every time there is a new version. On the other hand, all the other websites that are linked to mine will have to update the download link for each new version. I would also have to update my html pages every time I upload a new version. Too much work...
2. When you manually export data to a file, last I checked it always did so to the same filename. Similarly, it would be nice if the exported GPS data file included a timestamp in the filename. Otherwise it is really easy to overright data.
Sorry but I cannot do that because if I do, I will have to do it for exporting remotely as well, and the system is not really prepared to have multiple KML files for a single user on the server.
Sorry for so many bad news! :(

TrackMe should be able to work with any other applications that use the GPS. Did you check this?

staryon, nevermind about the previous day's data being lost...everything is working fine :)
i could have sworn when i came into work this morning, and started up GE, the only tracking points i saw were the new one's from this morning, but nothing from yesterday....i kept the same trip name both days
but i've just been playing with GE again, and now i see all the points recorded under that trip name, for both days :o

Hi,
First off, thanks for this cool app. I just installed yesterday and I realy like it already.
I have a few weird issues though and I wonder if I am doing something wrong or there is an issue with trackme \ my device.
First, if I start up trackme it seem to connect to the GPS but not get any data, if I leave it running and start TOMTOM then it starts getting data.
Second, I had it running and logging gps data then I made a phone call and walked around for 15 mins. When I finnished the call I expected to see 15 gps points logged (I set 1 min intervals). What I found was that it had stopped logging while I was on the phone. Once I finnished the call it started logging again.
Hopefully I have something set wrong or am being thick. Any advice apreciated.

You might need to 'prime' the GPS before TrackMe will be able to access the GPS data stream. I need to do that on my Sprint Mogul and use GPSToday for that purpose as well as providing faster TTFF. There are other apps available for this purpose.
For the second issue, my Mogul does the same thing because it's supposed to. The data connection is interrupted whenever a voice connection is active, say when a call comes in, with the data connection automatically resuming after the voice call is done. Under the Remote tab of Config, under Offline data (for later upload), select If unable to upload and Upload automatically when internet is available and then you would have seen all of the points once you finished the call and the kml file was updated.
hmm...not sure about that. I wouldn't like to add too much bloatware to TrackMe. However, if there are more people interested I may look at that.
I would like to see a new notification type available using some combination of the standard WM notification bubble, vibration, LEDs, sound. This would be useful for knowing when you are close to arriving near a specific point, for example, a bus stop or train station. Plus, this would provide a more immediate (local) notification than either SMS or email can offer.

Good idea.
When you click on 'Show position on map' it should call the default browser that you have on your PDA. I have only tried it with Pocket IE, but I haven't heard problems from users using a different one. Not sure why you are having that problem.
On my Sprint Mogul, I have Opera Mini configured as the default browser (thanks to this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=384271)) and when I open links in any other program, they always show up in Opera Mini just fine. However, when I click on 'Show position on map', IE Mobile opens up and gives me an error "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again." Yet if I cut and paste the URL into Opera Mini, the page shows just fine.
The second issue will go away if the link opened properly in Opera Mini like it should. :p
Any idea why it's opening in IE Mobile instead?
(Sorry for the large number of posts; but just discovered this app and am having fun putting it through its paces.)
Edit: Okay, part two went away on its own somehow as now it is opening successfully in IE Mobile. Question still remains though why IE Mobile instead of Opera Mini???
No, it's not possible. I may add that in a future version though.
Regards
Given how large the file can become over time, it would be great to have the option of storing it on the memory card.
On a related note, what about an option to create additional local backups/copies of the GPS data associated with each trip? Instead of having just a single gpspositions.txt file, have a file associated with each trip and store the data there...
I can't seem to get the display options to 'stick' when Live Tracking is on, using either Firefox 3.0 or IE7.
If changes can't be maintained with live tracking on because of the refresh issue, could there be some way of allowing us to choose the default options, say starting in satellite view instead of map view?
I use S2U2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381588) instead of the built-in lock and was wondering if you could offer an option to use S2U2 when the user taps the Screen Off option?

IMPORTANT
A question for everybody...
How many people are still using TrackMe in local mode?
I don't mean using Remote mode and storing the data offline. I mean don't using a server at all. Everything is stored locally on your PDA.
The reason is because I'm thinking in getting rid of local mode in TrackMe. It will make easier any further development.
I know that sometime ago I posted the same question, and almost nobody was using it. However I didn't get rid of that, I just removed part of the functionality.
This time I'm thinking in getting rid of everything. Every time I add something new to TrackMe I need to write a equivalent function for local mode. It's a lot of work and most of the time even more difficult to implement. So I think it's a waste of time to keep supporting this.
Please let me know how many people are still using local mode.
Thanks!

interesting you need to prime the GPS on your Mogul with TrackMe...i also have a Sprint Mogul and TrackMe grabs the GPS quickly without any priming by other apps :)

Let Local mode go. So few people would actually use it that it's not worth your hassle. What's the point of having the data if it's locked into your device? I've never used it nor will I ever use local mode.
Thinking through this thread, the only time I've heard it used has been in error rather than intentional.
Does that help. :)

I have used local mode once when I couldn't get my other gps program to work so it was convenient to have, but as long as there is a way to log positions and use TrackMe even if there is no data connection available (e.g turned off deliberately) I think it is ok to get rid of local mode.

So i'm not exactly sure what happened here, but i thought i'd recount the story in case there's information that might be helpful.
-On June 28th, i downloaded the newest (at that time) version of trackme and installed it.
-I installed it on my built in storage. I had previously had it installed on my flash drive.
-I noticed that the settings were lost, so i copied the all files that are not .dll or .exe over to the built in storage from the flash drive.
-Everything looked fine, so i set trackme to track with my normal settings and went on my trip on the 29th. About halfway through the day i noticed that it wasnt uploading to the server. I tried uploading offline positions and it appeared to keep trying to upload the same position, and then it would tell me that the process was complete, but if i tried to upload offline positions right away, it would just keep trying to upload the same position.
-I installed an older version of trackme. This time it seemed to work at first, but still would keep trying to upload offline positions. I also noticed that when i tried to get my trips from the server, it came up blank and told me i needed to update my client.
-I then tried installing the newer version again. This time it said that there were no offline points to upload. It was also telling me to update my client. This was near the end of the day, so i knew that i had lost all my points for that day.
-I was having trouble with XDA forums last night, so got the newest version through my PDA and installed it. It finally started working normally again.
-To get my track from the 29th back, i had to use the raw gpspositions.txt file and convert that into KML.
I assume i went wrong when copying the setting files from my flash drive to the built in storage? Is there any way to pull the data from the gpspositions.txt file and send it to the server?
Thanks

Every time you update the client, the file local.sdf is overwritten. Offline positions are stored in that file and that's why you lost those positions.
Just be sure to upload offline positions before upgrading the client next time.

In that case do the following:
1. Make a backup of the TrackMe folder
2. Download and install the latest version of TrackMe
3. Now take the file local.sdf from your backup folder and copy it where the
program is installed.
4. Start the program and upload your offline data.

I checked the file that was on my server and it seems your KML is empty. I mean, you didn't export any positions.
Could you let me know which trip name are you trying to export? I will check my database to see if you have any data there.

apparently my positions are gone. I copied the "local" file over from the backup but it still isn't working. Is there a way to see the text file of the coordinates or some other way to verify that they are there. I don't have any trips listed since the upgrade either.
edit: I backed the file up from last nights Sprite backup and still nothing. I did export a .kml and email to myself yesterday. I tried yesterday to add it to gmaps but couldn't get it to work either.

I checked the database and you don't have any positions there. It's completely empty. Are you sure that you were not using TrackMe in local mode before?
It's impossible to delete the positions in the database after you upgraded TrackMe. Maybe you deleted the positions accidentally from the client.
If you want to, send me your original local.sdf file to my email and I will take a look. My email is here:

I was using trackme in local mode yesterday. I was out of service most of the ride so I just wanted to save the route and upload it later. I'll send you the file I exported yesterday and maybe you can figure it out.
Thanks for all the help. Sorry to be such a pain.

Local mode is not the same than offline mode.
In TrackMe we used to have 2 modes, Local Mode and Remote Mode.
When you are using it in Remote Mode and you don't have internet access you can use the program in offline mode. In that case, the positions are stored locally and can be uploaded later once you have internet access.
In Local mode all the positions are always stored locally, and you don't need internet access to use TrackMe. You cannot transfer positions from Local Mode to Remote Mode.
Local Mode is no longer supported and it has been removed in the version that I uploaded yesterday.
If you were using the program in local mode and you upgraded to my last version all those positions are gone.

I have been using your track me software for about two weeks while house hunting in Brisbane Australia. Its so good that my parents in law have started using it. I have also used it for 3 hikes i have done and i love it. Now i have even installed my own server and it worked on the first go. So i can now upload my trips to my own domain and have the family track me (when i want) and what we do.
This is great and keep the updates coming. I'm now off to donate some money for you.

That's a pity, can you please tell why local mode has been dropped? This feature was so useful, and I'm sure, not only for me. Even if I got a Kaiser, I got it sponsored by a 2-year contract with no data-plan, just voice (I'm not interested in mobile internet for now, I just wanted a GPS-enabled PDA-phone). Now I have to stick with the last version supporting local mode...

You still can use TrackMe if you don't have an Internet Connection.
Just go to Configuration->Remote->Offline Data and check 'Always'
By doing that all your data will always be stored on your PDA.
Later once you use ActiveSync, just upload your offline data.

This still requires me now to configure an account at your site (or another server where PHP and MySQL works and I need to have access to), I then must upload the offline data, and in order to get a *.kml file, this is first uploaded to the server and then downloaded locally. Since the code of generating the *.kml is still there, can't at least the export functionality work without the need of an external server, or does this conversion to *.kml happen on the server?

question one:
Is it possible to use this app for showing my coordinates on my static google map on http://www.360xboxmod.nl in a way that only the current position is moving on the map and not the map itself?
question two: is it possible to prevent showing my position in a certain area without closing the app?
Thanks and if this is possible you will receive a nice donation!

No, the KML is generated on the server and then downloaded to your client. The client doesn't generate that file.
By the way, if you still want to use local mode, I still have the download link for that old version of TrackMe. The problem
is that version won't be updated anymore. However, it's pretty stable so you shouldn't have any problems in using it.

Hi guys,
Firstly this application is great for keeping a track of where I have been when I have been out on the bike. Keep up the good work, I will be making a donation in a few mins as its worth every penny.
I have a question, is there any way of deleting a particular point off a route? Due to me being a plank I have managed to add an extra point on the end of one of my trips and I would like to get rid of it!

Regarding your question.... hmmm... you would have to find out what's the exact time stamp for that position. Once you know that, you can delete it by going to Delete and selecting the appropriate Date Range.

Sure you can. If you have your own server (I think you have) just go to the Icons table and add or modify the existing icons. You just need a name and a URL for each one.

Corking. Well thats easy enough to do because I can see it on the viewing screen you have got on the internet :). That also works really well by the way! One very slight thing that you could change is that instead of it defaulting to the fully zoomed out world view when you change which trip you are looking at it could automatically go to the view you get when you hit show. (only a very minor thing but would save me time :) )
Right I will give deleting this point a go and let you know how it goes.
EDIT: The delete worked like a charm. Thanks.

The web viewer has an option to do what you say. However, I have it disabled on my server.
The reason is because you may have some trips with many positions and sometimes you are not really interested in seeing all the positions on the map once you select a trip. If the trip has many positions the process is very slow.
Anyway, if you end up using your own server, you can enable that feature at anytime.

Ah right that makes sense. Its not exactly a problem anyway!
One last question.. When I chose to download the summary of a trip onto my phone from the Manage trips screen the details will stay there until I close the window.
Then if I close the application and reopen it the next time I try to view the details it has gone again (along with the list of trips that were there previously, I have to click on "get existing" to get them to appear.) Is this a feature or something gone a bit odd on my phone?
If its a feature would it be possible for the application to cache these details and then you could just download/update them when and if anything changed.

You are right, just tested it myself, it stays while the app is open then as soon as you close and reopen you need to download it again.
Is the caching of that something you have purposefully chosen not to add for some reason? If not is there any chance of it being added as an update at some point?

In fact i just want to see my bike trip into google earth soft.
I don't want to send the file trough the web but just upload the .kml form my phone to my PC and open it into google earth.

Local mode is no longer supported.
Your positions are stored on the server. The KML file will be generated on the server and then downloaded to your PDA.
Just use TrackMe in offline mode and once you get home, upload your offline data and generate the KML file.

Sorry why local mode is not longer supported?
In the export menu we have a choice : Destination File(s) remote or Local

If i am not connected to the web during my bike trip how the positions can be stored on the server?
Just use TrackMe in offline mode and once you get home, upload your offline data and generate the KML file.
In offline mode:
- do i need to check the option "Generate KML File" into the Live tracking menu, because i am not connected to the web during the trip?
- there is no way to generate the kml file without uploding the data on the server? Only the server know out to generate the kml file with the data stored temporarly on the phone?
- For a my complete trip (11km) will i have just one file to upload or many?
What is bearing in map? (sorry i am french!)

They will stored on your PDA temporarily. Later you can upload them to the server once you have internet connection.
In offline mode:
- do i need to check the option "Generate KML File" into the Live tracking menu, because i am not connected to the web during the trip?
It doesn't make sense to do that because your positions are not being uploaded to the server.
- there is no way to generate the kml file without uploding the data on the server?
As I said KML files are only generated on the server. If you have offline data it needs to be uploaded first.
- For a my complete trip (11km) will i have just one file to upload or many?
It's not really a file. Offline positions are stored in a local database. Positions are uploaded one by one after that.
What is bearing in map? (sorry i am french!)
Arrows that indicate the direction of each position.

Thank you very much for your explanations.
I will try to summarize our discussion and what i understanded: can you correct me if i am wrong!:p
What i want:
I want to generate a kml file of my trip to visualise it into google earth.
I don't have internet connection during the trip but after at home.
With track_me we can no longer generate the kml file locally without uploading a database to a server on the web that can create the kml file.
During the trip, i need to:
- use Track_me in Offline mode: a temporarly database will be created during the trip in the phone
- uncheck the option "Generate KML File" into the Live tracking menu of the config menu.
At the end of the trip and when i will have a web connection:
- I need to upload the temporarly database with the button "Upload Offline Data" of the "tools" menu
- After that, i can create the kml file with the "Export GPS" button of the "tools" menu with the option "Local" (to create the kml file on the server and after downloading it into the phone): where in the phone the klm menu will be created?

I just logged in from my PDA using your username and I was able to generate the KML file with no problems. Maybe it's a internet connection issue on your side. It worked fine from here.
If you want to see the KML that I just generated you can open Google Earth and enter the path to the KML file and you should be able to see the route.

Hi :)
Apologies if this has been asked & answered already.
Is there a way that I can minimise the amount of markers displayed on a recorded route? I update my route using the shortest possible time (5 seconds?) for better accuracy and as such, I end up with dozens of grey point markers. What I ideally would like, is to just have a Start & Finish marker and instead of all the grey markers, just have a line drawn along my route - or maybe have a grey marker every 10 GPS stamps? I know I can filter for just the last 20 points but I would like to view my entire route with no grey points ideally.
I'm guessing, but when a route is created does it work like this:
GPS stamp taken;
5 seconds passes;
GPS stamp taken;
5 seconds passes..
And so on and then the route is created by "drawing" a straight line between each stamp? Sometimes I find that my route takes me over a rooftop and I guess it's because of the description above? Nokia's Sportstracker does exactly the same thing so I know it's not specific.
Thanks for any help

If you are using your own server and have some experience with PHP it shouldn't be difficult to do that. You need to modify the file export.php which is where the KML file is generated. I think the code is not difficult to understand but if you plan to modify it and have any questions I'll be happy in helping you.

Hi,
thanks for the reply. I have a little experience in PHP and have taken a look through the export.php file. I studied it for ages trying to figure it out and in the end started looking through the other files. I thought the answer could lie in the index.php where the filter for selecting the last 20 records is. I tried editing that but got nowhere. So I ended up back at the export.php file and still couldn't figure it out. The only thing I could think of in the end was to change the gray marker png file for an empty, blank png file. This gave me just the line of my track but of course meant I couldn't click on any parts of the track to see the info like current speed etc.

I thought you were talking about Google Earth.
The file index.php is for the Web viewer so you don't need it.
The KML file is generated in the export.php so you only need to modify that one.

I think it's a server speed issue. After you click on a point and it loads slow and messed up like the first one, close the bubble and then click the point again to see if it's normal. I have the same thing when looking at photo points on my server. (Cheep shared hosting)

'cant find file- or assembly-name System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=3BE235DF1C8D2AD3 or one of the dependencies'
I can only select 'close'.
(translated from Dutch).
I have installed .net 3.5 on diamond. It had 2.0 before, but separatedly installed 3.5 and selected to use this one. Has it got to do with that?

you will need the SQL Server Mobile 3.5 thats listed in the first post here...that's whats throwing that error message.
Offcourse.
Silly me, works ;)
Didn't look twice in startpost.
ok,
I set up my own server, but I get this message on my PDA:
User didn't exist and system was unable to create it
I don't knwo where on my server I should fill in my username?
Trackme does connect to database.
*** changed port number, and get another message about the message cannot be displayed. I have a dutch .net and installed the error-messages-cab. Maybe ain't working too. Anyway, I don't know if port number is right, i'm really not into this. I just know what to fill in for databases and so on and that's all really :). It seems to work with this port number (80 didn't) but I am not sure. I don't get 'unable to create user' anymore ****
Any idea what i've missed?
*** got error message : This protocol version is not supported ***
On the diamond, .net 2.0 was installed by default.
I installed 3.5 with a config tool, so WM must be using 3.5 only.
Can it have something to do with this?
Hmm..
looks it's a server side problem, it works like a charm on luisespinoza.com !!
I want to use it on my own server.
What I want to do with it is this:
I want to make a list with distance I travelled for work every day.
Start adres, end adress, distance travelled, date and time.
Is this information extractable?
It would be worth A LOT for me , saving me hours of jotting down every mile i've driven (i have my own company as a single-employed man) so I need to get the taxes back.
Think I go for a donation, s soon as I got my own server working. one of the best ppc apps I found !
Nobody an idea why that protocol is wrong, and what protocol is meant there?

Yikes!
Check this out. Today, I had to pop to town so I thought I'd take my iPaq with me and create a new journey for TrackMe. The journey was a round trip of no more than maybe 5 miles. I used my external bluetooth gps receiver, had 9 satellites in view and all was good to go. So off I went, all was good. Got home and uploaded the route and here's what I got:
http://www.phreemms.com/trackme/hugetrip.bmp
I like to drive fast but even I'd struggle with those speeds!! Not sure if it was a problem with TrackMe, my bt gps receiver or the iPaq itself. I'll try it again later tonight...

Riel,
as I remember, you don't create a username/password on your server. You put the details into your version of TrackMe on your PPC. Then you create a route. Then you upload it - and then you should be able to sign in on your server ;)
Give that a go.
i was really looking forward to using your app. to track my trip down to the caribbean tomorrow, but apparently my phone's GPS (HTC Mogul (PPC-6800) on Sprint) will not work outside the US....or more specifically it will not work without first contacting a compatible cell tower
Where did you learn about this, as it's the first I've heard of it?!? It would explain why no matter what I did, I couldn't get my Mogul's GPS to work last week on a trip to central Europe! Had hoped to use TrackMe to record my travels, but couldn't get a single satellite... if you could point me to more info on this via PM, I'd appreciate it.

I've had that problem a couple of times while using TomTom.
I'm not sure but I've heard that the problem could be related with interferences with high voltage posts and similar.

Hmm, I didn't create that. I also don't know what my port number should be. I have server running somewhere else, I set up databases via port 2443. But don't know if I must use that here too ...
But on port 2443 it 'connects' but I get that protocol error. It is not saying that when I use luis' server. So on serverside is something wrong. Maybe not accepting html? Must I set a .htcacces maybe?

Riel,
I'm just about to leave for work - but I can pick this thread up when there and go through everything on my server and jot it down for you to check against yours if any good? We can also go through the settings on our PPC's to compare?
Happy to help :)
Cool phree, i'll be here in an hour I guess :)
On port 80 i get:
user didn't exist or user could not be created ...

Hi Riel,
at work now...I'm just about to look at how everything is setup on both my server and my PPC...I'll post up again in the next few minutes ;)
Well, seems I can't get acces to database on my website from my ppc.
Can't create user, i'll try on a friends server now for a change.
I am not sure about port 80 / 2443

On my server, I ran the install, then ran the sql inserts that came in the zip file. This created 1 database (_trackme) & 4 tables (icons, positions, trips, users).

When I first tried to access the page, I received errors which as I remember where about no valid users. Eventually, I figured it out. I stored a track on my PPC and then uploaded it. It went straight through and I could then access the page by using the username and password I had set in the Remote>Config settings within the TrackMe program on my PPC. Looking at that screen, it's saying the port is set to 80 so I assume that must be correct?
I don't have an .htaccess file in my trackme folder and all the files are set to 644. Folders are set to:
routes: 755
pics: 777 (although I don't use this folder as I can't send pics on WM2003)
lang: 755
icons: 755
I don't know what hosting you're using - is it a free one or a paid for one? I'm thinking there may be a problem if you are using a free one. If so, I can PM you details of my server and you can then try creating one on there if you like?
I don't know if any of this will help, but I hope it does!

Ah ok, well first I created a new database called trackme. Then I created a new user & password and associated them with the database. Then, using PHPMyAdmin, I opened the database, clicked on SQL and pasted the sql commands that are in the 'database.sql' file contained within the 'server.zip' that's linked to on page 1 of this thread. To save you digging around, the sql commands are:

Ah
In my php_myadmin the 'users' is already taken by my master website!
I need that.
possible to change?
Phree
08-07-2008, 01:53 AM
Can you not just create a new database? You should be able to. When you access your server, how do you do it? Do you use CPanel?
Nope, I have the right to use just one database.
But, i just changed all USERS to TM_USERS in every file :p so lets see what it does.
Well, the user accounts are created....
but now it's unable to create trip :S
the trips table is there?
Phree
08-07-2008, 02:05 AM
Did you look in the php files for the SQL INSERTS as well? There will be mentions of USERS in those files as well.
If this all becomes too messy or complicated, I can just set you up with a copy of it on my server if you like? I can pwd protect it for you so only you (not even me) will have access to it :-)
Phree
08-07-2008, 02:06 AM
Ah ok, do you have a trip that you've already recorded on your PPC? If so, upload it. If not, create one and then upload it ;)
I think I had to re-create that trips table?
* search all php files and changed it
* search the .sql file and changed it
* removed all tables via phpmyadmin
* ran the install via install.php
* tables were nicely created ... and
* ITS WORKING
THANX a lot for your time, without you mentioning that SQL thing it wouldn't slip my mind that my database was causing trouble...
ok, now I'll shut up for a while :p
But still I have questions for the next step:
IS it possible to get a streetname or at least a city out of google maps?
Phree
08-07-2008, 02:12 AM
YAY!! Glad it's working :) And glad I could help ;)
Ok, when you say a streetname/city out of Google maps how do you mean? What are you trying to do?
I want to make a report:
Date - time - trip - km's - duration
Trip is important as a description.
10-08-08 10:20AM - EIndhoven->sittard - 67 km 40 min
11-08-08 09:30AM - Eindhoven->amsterdam - 110 km 70 min
etc etc
That would be awesome (and even would pay for it, just because it doesn't exist :S)
Phree
08-07-2008, 02:28 AM
Phew, I'm not so sure that could be done...I think you would somehow have to have a database that would contain all the longitude & latitude of all the possible cities you would be going from & to and as I'm sure you can imagine, this would be enormous. I guess you could somehow create your own database that contained the cities that only you need but I'm not really sure how you could do this as you would have to base your cities as a square and have lon & lat details for the top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right of that square. Then you would need to figure out your SQL to check if your start or end lon & lat fell in between those four co-ords. Tricky, really tricky.
Maybe someone else will read this and say all the above is rubbish and there is an easy way to do it - and I hope they do coz doing what you are trying to achieve would be cool
As for the rest of your report, that would be easy enough to write the SQL for as all the data you need is already uploaded to the database.
WEll, in google maps when I click somewhere a balloon with current city pops up ;)
I can see the streets also when I use the found coordinates to plan a route with google maps ... !
And is *this* possible with the collected coordinates?
http://www.marsrutai.info/directions.htm
And here is an example of a database (but just not usable this way around I guess :p) http://www.tageo.com/index.php?show=search
Phree
08-07-2008, 02:42 AM
Hey :)
As you say, the link you posted does the reverse of what you need. You also have to remember, that Google Maps isn't taking a longitude and latitude and then converting it into a street name. What it's doing, is taking those co-ords and overlaying a map with those co-ords at the centre. Any clickable balloons would have been added afterwards either by Google staff themselves or other net users.
I just searched Google for a while trying to see if what you want to do has been done and although I found a couple that seem to work on that basis, they were only in the US.
I think you would have to create the database yourself and work from there :( But hey, I could be wrong and as I said before, I'd be happy to be if someone else could show how it's done.
And what's this?
http://nicogoeminne.googlepages.com/documentation.html
Think it is JUST what i was looking for.
But I am no programmer :) :p
Phree
08-07-2008, 02:57 AM
You proved me wrong :D
That is VERY cool...I tried using this: http://nicogoeminne.googlepages.com/full4.html and it worked great for me in the UK..Now to implement it into your report somehow. I'll take a look into it if you like as you'll need to somehow pull the data out of the result and store it.
Nice!
It got my neighbours housenumber here in the Netherlands while getting gps coordinatie in house, that's impressive :)
Well:
If TrackMe works the way it does now I already have:
- Total KM's
- Start and End time
- Duration
Just reverse geocode the start and end coordinates and we have a full log :p
Maybe option to get an adress loggen in between (done by pressing a button on PDA where it sends and extra trigger signal so reverse geocoder knows he has to take it too)
But maybe i have to slow it down a bit ... getting some sleep ..
Need to ask the creator of the server-files if this functionality can be added, or maybe I know someone...
If the creators are ok with this idea?
Phree
08-07-2008, 03:08 AM
Heh, no worries. Sleep well :)
So far as implementing something like this into TrackMe would have to be something you put forward as a possible future development. The way I'm thinking it could work is if you store a kml file on your server when uploading a route (it's in the config menu) and then have a separate page (maybe your reporting page) that lets you choose the kml file. It then takes the first lon & lat, converts that and adds to the main database, then the same with the last lon & lat...That way you would have your start & end locations to include in your report.
I'll have a playaround and see what I can come up with - if anything!
Thanx a lot, but don't spend too much of your time there :)
I think it is possible, so I just wait patiently for someone to integrate that.
The best part is already done: getting the coordinates on your own server!
What you do with em ... is up to you :)

Hey, no problem :) I've been there myself once too many times with other things and have been in a position where no-one wants to help (even though I know they could if they wanted to) and so I'm always happy to help if and where I can.
Now it's ticking over in my mind about this reverse geocoding and whether I can do it or not! It would be quite cool to somehow implement it for reporting. I think it could be done in the way I described above by pulling the first & last details out of the kml file. I think I'll try and VBScript it and then incorporate it into a "reports" html page kinda thing.
I can only appreciate Phree ;)

Hello Staryon,
what did you think of the idea of revese geocaching?
If the functionality of your program could take that step of generating the reports I mentioned at the last few posts in the topic, then it wold be a very worthy program.
When I get into my car, I should press a big button with 'start trip' and when I arrive I should press the button 'end trip'. There could also be a button 'via trip'.
* So the server takes the total distance (it already does) of every trip.
* Reverse geocaches the start and end trip
* and if available, the VIA-points.
(when I hit via-trip that current GPS signal should be 'flagged' so the server knows it has to reverse-geocache that point too).
* Makes a report where the trips are listed by day, start adress, end adress, total km, total time
* extra functions: knows spots programmed, like the surroundings of GPS coordinate for 'Home', 'Work', etc.
Thanks for your requests. They look interesting but they may take a while to do. I'm really sorry but I don't have plans to add your requests at this moment so I prefer not to promise you anything.
What you are really asking if for GPS Fleet tracking and TrackMe is not really intended for that.
Sorry about that.
Regards
Hi!
All respect for that!
But I really dont want fleet tracking, just a report of one (my) driven routes.
Anyway, I hope I am free to use the data from your program freely on my server?
Anyway, I really don't want to push you, and for the last line in the PM, it's worth it!
Regards!

Yes, you can use that data with no problems. Just add a reference to my website if you publish it somehow.
By the way, I really have plans in extending the Manage Trips function by showing some extra information when you click on 'Get Existing' That information will include the date and time and the total distance. Hope that helps.

Hi,
I finally got my kaiser back from repair after more than 2 months without it ( :( ), searched for new versions for my usual programs (including Trackme) and reinstalled all my stuff. Now when testing everything, I found a problem with the Trackme trips. I'm running the Trackme server on my website, and was using it without problems previously. Now that I have updated to your latest PDA app version, I can't get it to list the trips anymore. Each time I use the "Get existing trips" function, I get an error saying "Unable to get trip list (Result: 1st_trip_name_here|2nd_trip_name_here|etc)"
So as the trip names are the ones on the server it obviously can reach the server normally and retrieve the names but can't parse them or whatever...
I tried deleting positions from the PDA and it works, creating new trips and uploading positions works too, just not the trip listing. I've tried deleting the contents of the positions and trips DB tables to start cleanly again but it didn't help, I can create new trips again but not list them. Any idea?

Did you get the latest server files?
I'm not sure what version you are running but the files requests.php and export.php were changed in the latest updates.

Hi,
is there any way of changing the filename for the remote kml file within TrackMe? At the moment, all my kml's are saved as "Phree.kml" - so before I upload a new one, I have to change the name of the one currently on my server. I don't know if this is by design or I'm doing something wrong?
Cheers :)

It's by design. There is one file per user.
Why do you need to have multiple KML files on the server?
By doing that you will need to change the URL every time you want to display something with Google Earth.
Use Trackme's export function to generate the KML file that you need at any moment and open Google Earth. The trip will be shown automatically.

My bad, hadn't seen that. Everything works fine now, thanks :)

When I get my trip summary I get this huge (average) speeds. What is going wrong? I have this working on my own server and when I view the information on my website it gives me the correct average speed.

That's hard to tell unless I see your data.
Could you provide at least an screenshot of the trip summary?

TrackMe for iPhones?
I'm getting many requests from people who are asking for a version of TrackMe for iPhones.
I'm really thinking about that, but since it's a completely different technology everything would have to be written from scratch.
The other main problem is the price. I don't own an iPhone 3G which comes with a GPS and also development is not free either because I need to pay Apple a developer fee.
For those reasons I'm thinking in charging for this version of TrackMe. The question is: Would you pay $19 (approximately) for TrackMe for iPhones?
Since it's a lot of work and money If I get a lot of interest on this I may consider start working on this very soon.
Maybe this is not the best forum to ask for this, but if I go to an iPhone forum probably nobody will know about TrackMe!
Please respond on this thread about your thoughts!
Thanks

Hiya,
I think I'm getting confused! Ok, let's say I go for a drive and store the track offline. When I get home, I upload the track and also create (remotely) a KML file. This KML file is a copy of the track but for Google Earth right? Then, if I go out for a bike ride and record that track offline and then upload it when I get back & create KML again, the current KML file on the server gets overwritten and replaced with the new one. Is that right? If so, cool :) I seem to have a problem with creating them - I rode home from work the other morning and recorded the track, then uploaded it when home. On my TrackMe page, it displays the route perfectly but when I open the KML file in Google Earth, it doesn't relate to the journey at all. I've also noticed that if I view the KML file in an editor, it's one long continuous line of data across the page, but if I view a KML that's been created differently (any example KML file off the net) it's all formatted and goes down the page rather than across it.

The thing is... you only need to create a KML file when you want to see something right now on Google Earth. Data is stored in the database. You don't need to be creating KML files every time there is a new trip.

To be honest I wouldn't buy it on the iPhone.
TrackME is a cool program though I haven't donated as promised because I never got it up and running again like I thought I would.
Instead I ended up getting an FCC license and using Amateur Radio spectrum to send out GPS coordinate packets using my electronic device I built myself.
I use the APRS protocol ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Position_Reporting_System )
I also don't own the iPhone though. However, I'd rather keep the Tilt and use TrackMe for free.If I used TrackMe on the Tilt, I probably wouldn't be opposed to purchasing it. After all, you've supported this program for a long while and it'd be worth the cost.
