hey guys,

I just wanted to drop a few lines to let you know that I haven't forgotten you! ;)
The company that acquired TrackMe is still working on other projects, so I haven't got any updates about when I will be supporting the software again.

Sorry about that, but you guys know how this things work...
I'm glad the thread is still active. I hope it recovers the regular activity once I get back to this project. Hopefully not in a long time...

Regards!

Luis

Hi all, i'm having some troubles. In last days seems impossible to get my position usind cellID.
When i try to upload data, it says that cellid number is not found. I'm using all 4 possibilities (google, opencellid etc)

I'm trying in the same places i tried before, nothing new.
I just re-installed the cab.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Well, I never use Cell ID so I can't really help you out there. Sorry.

I did notice that it fails to check for updates now. I'm guessing there's some changes in the wind now. I'd love to see an iPhone version since I'm probably going to get myself one in November some time. I'll keep my Tilt2 (Touch Pro 2) but most of my needs will be answered by the iPhone if I can leave TrackMe running while doing other things and the screen off. :) You know, multitasking.

I'm having some problems with the recorded speed...

As far as I know, the speed is a part of the NMEA strings received from the GPS module.
This means that ALL software using the same GPS module should report the correct speed, right?

Well, TrackMe doesn't... It mostly reports a too high speed.
I'm not sure why, as I haven't been able to understand how TrackMe finds the speed data.

First, I thought it was a conversion issue, because many of the speeds "looked right" if I read the miles as kilometer.
But it's not a straight 1.6x difference either.
I've tried using many (all?) combinations of metric/imperial measurements in the device and webpage, but none seem to give a correct value...

Anyone else have this problem?

All other GPS software I've used on my HD2 seem to report the correct speed.
For example, if I start TrackMe and Endomondo at the same time, they report two different speeds and average speeds...
And Endomondo reports the accurate speed in the display.

Before even moving to Android I started looking for something similar to TrackMe and I found a tool which can do most of the same functions, although it's a much broader tool and useful for a bunch of stuff. It's called Tasker, and it's just gone up on the market after being in beta for a long time. And no, I have no stake in this, I'm just a user.

It's not exactly TrackMe, feature for feature compared to TrackMe, but it's much more than TrackMe in other ways. I have not changed my server at all for the items below, so you could continue to use the server you use today, which personally I like having 18+ months of data in the same place for easy reference. :)

Here's some of what it can do similar to TrackMe, and how I have set up myself.. If anyone is interested, I'll export and post profiles for other people to use. :)

Passive Tracking

Every 10 minutes between 8am and 12 midnight upload the current GPS location to the TrackMe database IF the location has changed. If the location has not changed, but it's been over an hour, upload it anyway.

I have this active on my phone 24/7, it just does it quietly in the background. Worried about battery? Nope, saw zero difference.

Active Tracking

On a loop which executes every 5s, get the current GPS location and upload it to TrackMe. This one requires the GPS to be actively running, running Google Maps for instance will do the trick.

This one is a task you'd explicitly run, how I have it set up is a homescreen widget which pops up a menu to start tracking or stop tracking.

Things that could feasible be done compared to TrackMe functions, but I haven't tried:
Send location to another person
Change tripname (I have mine set to like tasker-YYYY-MM-DD, but would be easy to change, perhaps even easy to make dynamic)

Current limitations (compared to TrackMe)

No heading or speed data (yet, it's in the todo list)
Active tracking requires external program using the GPS
No (easy) way to do rules like only log after X distance, Y heading change, etc (honestly it COULD be done however, once #1 is fixed)
No fencing

The stuff I'm listing is off the top of my head functions which TrackMe provided which I used..

BTW, Tasker can do much more than this, in fact, how I'm using it is quite an edge use case for the things it can do. I basically think of it as a high level (easy to use, GUI, etc) interface to the entire Android API. I suggest anyone interesting in automating about anything in Android check it out, and hope it's useful information for folks moving to Android and looking for options for TrackMe!

Tasker can be found in the market, and his webpage is here: http://tasker.dinglisch.net/

Yeah, I've been using a Touch for a while and the iPhone 4 with Multitasking is the biggest thing I needed. It is stepping backwards, but then again it would work too. Plus, my wife is an iPhone user so it'd be cool for her to be able to run TrackMe too. :)

Where is the offline data stored until you get back online?

I was running an track and changed the name and now it won't upload it. This first act is holding up all the other offline data being held. What I'd like to do just remove the trip creation that is failing so all the other data can get uploaded. Failing that, just wipe out all offline data and go from here.

I tried to create the new trip about two weeks ago and have traveled out of cell range a few times since. So that's where all the other data has been coming from.

I run my own server and install TrackMe to my microSD card.

Yes, please! I bought my Touch Cruise after finding out about trackme (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361455). Probably the first thing I installed and it's the thing I will miss most.

Hi turtle2472,

I'm glad to see you are still around! The company that acquired TrackMe contacted me like a month ago to keep supporting the product (only support, not development) however at this moment I'm working on a different project so I had to postpone it.

Regarding the iPhone version I just sent them an email asking for the status, so I will let you know as soon as I get some news from them. By the way, I'm not involved on that project so I have no idea how it's going to be!

Oh yeah, I'm still around. I use TrackMe just about everyday too. :) I'm very grateful for the work you've put into. I'm still using the old web viewer though because I haven't seen a good write up for the new one. I'm ok with that though. :)

I'll be cool if they get (are we not able to know who bought the app) an iPhone app done since it supports multitasking now. Then my wife and I can track each other. I look forward to seeing what they say.

I just got an email from them. They say the iPhone's project has been delayed because they had to focus on other project that was more important at that moment. Sorry about that...

I'm glad you still use TrackMe! I really think TrackMe had a great potential and it could have become something really big. Unfortunately the company that acquired the product preferred to focus resources on the iPhone version and other projects instead of expanding what we already had. I don't blame them at all, and I understand they had other priorities. They told me that they had a new web viewer almost ready a long time ago, but haven't heard anything lately.

I am also afraid that it's kind of late now (GPS applications are now everywhere and big companies are putting a lot of effort on those) so I don't know if TrackMe will keep growing and stay as popular as it was.

Anyway, thanks for being there. I will post here any updates.

Cheers

Well, as much as I hate to face it, WM 6.5 is dying. There's little software support for it and even less of a future. As you've even indicated, it's time to move on. However, until I can have an app like TrackMe that allows me to log my location on my server I'm not leaving the version I'm using. In fact, I'd be willing to install a stripped down ROM on another phone and connect it with data via a hotspot on my current phone.

I am also afraid that it's kind of late now (GPS applications are now everywhere and big companies are putting a lot of effort on those) so I don't know if TrackMe will keep growing and stay as popular as it was.
As long as it allows me to log my data on my personal server I'll be willing to switch. I don't want my life in detail on someone else's server. That's too much info for one person/company. My family is a totally different story though. :D

Anyway, thanks for being there. I will post here any updates.

Cheers
It's truly my pleasure being here. You made a great project and I hope you were paid well for your efforts. Hi Lem,
I'm still using TRACK ME although I have moved from my original TYTN2 to the Touch Pro 2 and have recently discovered a problem which I think has been there for a while but I have been ignoring.

I have the phone set to allow windows to manage GPS and with that I am able to successfully run my other three GPS programs at the same time, successfully getting a lock. Track Me on its own seems to take forever to get a lock (but does eventually) What I can't do is run Track Me (TM) and get a lock while I run the other programs, nor can they get a lock while Track Me is trying to use the GPS. The other programs are the HTC GPS tool (HTC) , Google Maps (GM) and Sporty Pal(SP).

In summary

TM...............lock eventually
HTC................quick lock
SP...............quick lock
GM...............quick lock
HTC+SP.........quick lock
HTC+SP+GM....quick lock
TM+ HTC........Waiting for GPS response (all programs)
TM +SP...........Waiting for GPS response(all programs)
TM +GM...........Waiting for GPS response(all programs)
TM+[any combo]....Waiting for GPS response(all programs)

I'm guessing that its a settings issue in TM, but can't figure out why/how to fix.
Any thoughts?

Cheers

Gideon

Nice to hear from you! Thanks for your comments about TrackMe. I really appreciate that.

To be honest, I don't know anything about the iPhone version. Last thing that I heard was it was going to be released very soon but that was a long time ago.
I guess something must have happened. I will send you an PM with some contact information in case you want to send them an email.

On the other hand, I don't know anything new regarding updates for TrackMe on WM 6.5
At this moment they are still working on other projects :(
It would be nice to see a new version for Windows Phone 7 but I think I really need to be extra motivated to start working on the same project again

Right now I'm working on a indie game for the Xbox and for Windows Phone 7. A lot of fun :) I plan to update my website soon with some extra information.

Are you using an internal GPS or bluetooth?
Try changing the way that you connect to the GPS from GPSID to a COM port.
Maybe that will resolve the issue.

I've not had an issue with the GPS losing connection with TrackMe unless the screen goes to sleep. Be sure you aren't letting the phone sleep because the GPS sleeps too.

Cell ID is the mode you need to use then. It works pretty good with getting your location but it's not as accurate as GPS. It operates during sleep mode unlike GPS. I personally don't use this mode and can't help you configure it off the top of my head...I do know it's the one you want though.

Hi Jim,

What have you got hardware wise with the GM862-GPS? I am trying to understand what you have in more detail. Are you saying you have this module that will be located somewhere else, possible in a car, and another GSM terminal connected to the PC and you want to talk to the GM862 with it?

To get any form of communications going you are going to need a micro connected to the GM862 with software that makes a GPRS connection or sends SMS. This is assuming you only have the GM862 module by itself.

The GM862 is easy to drive with a microcontroller if the software you use has TCP/IP and PPP built in, otherwise you have to use the AT command set to do the connection for you. Either way will work.

Let me know in more detail what it is you are trying to do and I can see if I can help you out?

Hi Dave,
Good to hear from you. Many thanks for your reply. What I am needing is for one of the modules I have to be remote from the laptop (mobile and in a car) and the other connected to the laptop hyperterminal. I intend for the cell location to be shown on the laptop screen via google earth or similar when the GPS signal is unavailable. To be honest, my background is not in electronics and this is a necessary part of my PhD project, which I need to finish very soon. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Dave,
I hope you are ok. I'm hoping I have not set myself an impossible task here. Any guidance you can give me would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Jim.

I can't really help you directly, but the great thing is that the TrackMe API is pretty decent and easy to work with... I've been using the TrackMe web service for around two years now, most of that time not using the Windows Mobile TrackMe client. I don't even use Windows Mobile any longer.

I have data being sent from Tasker in Android every 10m of my GPS coordinate, passive tracking.
If I want, I can enable active tracking using Tasker on my Android phone as well.
I have a track logging Bluetooth GPS which I run any time I'm out which collects data which is parsed and is also sent to TrackMe.

For me, the biggest value in TrackMe is the really nice web interface. :) I look at it directly, even a while back set up some extra KML exports so I can query it from Google Earth or other means.

I keep meaning to add some more axillary functionality, such as I'd like to see "The last 10 times I was at this location" kind of info. But it's not something I want to know very often, and it's pretty easily done in Google Earth using my exports. My export has no time bounds, so Google Earth asks for data of a certain area and it gets that data back. If it's a lot of data it'd be difficult to pick through, but generally I'm not doing it at the house or where I park at work or such. :)

this wonderful program is installed on my HTC Diamond and Orbit. It works properly.

But this email message and all other notification alerts like this do I not understand why it is blocked:

wow...that's very strange.
However I think I know what is happening. When I create the format of the email to be sent, I submit the link to a website that creates shorter links to make it clearer for the user. It seems for some reason when that request is done by your phone it gets rejected. Your IP looks blacklisted.

I haven't used TrackMe for a while now so I don't remember if I ended up adding an option for not creating shorter links. Take a look at the configuration just in case.

Sorry I cannot help you more!

Hi,

Great program. I stumbled across it by chance and it works great on my iPaq hx2490b.

My main interest is live tracking in Google Earth and I wondered if it was possible to change the angle and height of the flyto refresh.

I just wonder - if I want to Trackme to be on for days/weeks - will it split the trip (and name when set to none) on midnight? or will it keep as one data set?

or how to set it to split the data automaticaly without doing anything on the phone (stop and start again)

if you are using your own server, than yes, you can change the values easily in the php code. if you are interested, i'll look it up, where i changed them...

maybe you already logged in once and have not locked out on your pc? the browser remembers this and pushes you through to the map, without asking again... try to log out and and reload the page... (maybe delete cookies, too)

This thread came up when I searched xda for "over the road truck driver"

I am about to go out for 5 straight weeks, and want my wife to be able to see where I am as accurately as I can... this work better than latitude? I set it to real time updating and doesn't seem to do much. Updates hourly or so, and I can get pretty far in an hour lol. My phone will just about always be on a charger so I don't mind updating gps constantly.

Also, I will be using "my tracks". When I shared the email link with friends, you can barely see the red line, this better for that purpose as well? From what I saw in market it looks good, but on my phone I can't sift through 500 pages on xda lol

Is it possible to get some more details about how to complete the 3 steps below? I downloaded the Microsoft 3.5 download, but don't know how to then get onto my HTC Titan. Appreciate your help to get sorted.

problem solved:

the sql server 3.5 requires netcf 2.0...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349357

but it doesn't install correctly if you don't have it!

so:

1. deinstall sql server
2. install netcf 2.0
3. reinstall sql server 3.5

...and trackme works!

So, the problem is somehow specific to all roms without netcf 2.0...and without the server 3.5 already pre-installed...

Hi all,

I was just looking for something like this. I use my android all the time and before i had this phone i used a wm6 with trackme. And this profile and task is exactly what i'm looking for to use trackme with tasker.

can you share your profile and tasks? Or what format does the xml looks like when u send it to trackme web interface. Thanks in advance! Maybe it is possible to put this profile and tasks at the wiki of tasker so everybody can use this with trackme.

Thanks in advance!

Ok super! Until that time comes ;) can you or someone else tell me :

where i can find the format for the file (xml?, kml?, something else) i need to send to trackme online server or my own server?

I know the trackme program uses a mysql database to store its data on the wm6 phones but it needs a export format to send it to the server( am i correct?). I can then build something inside tasker myself.

Nah, it's a web API via post variables, no posting data or anything. So yes, my post is exactly what is used. At one point I'd considered modifying some stuff to upload N datapoints at once, but right now if you upload 10 points, it does the call below 10 times. So clearly some optimization could be done, particularly if you're in offline mode. In that case I'd probably have done an XML post but I didn't ;)

/trackme/requests.php?a=upload&u=user&p=password&lat=dd.ddd dddd&long=dd.ddddddd&do=2011-02-06%2009:10:00&tn=Tripname_Date&sp=0.0&alt=279.0&an g=0&db=8&comments=Optional%20Comments&bs=98

a = action, you can look in requests.php for other actions
u = user (iirc, automatically created if it doesn't exist)
p = password
lat = latitude in decimal degrees
lon = longitude in decimal degrees
do = date/time of event (when the coordinate was captured)
tn = Trip Name (combines data of same tn in web server)
sp = speed in (I'd have to look... m/s I think)
alt = altitude in meters
ang = heading
db = database schema version (use 8, unless it's changed in requests.php)
comments = optional comments which show up on individual datapoints
bs = battery status

I'm hoping to put to that info on the Tasker wiki this weekend. :)

hum. a bunch of single post parameter rows is hard to create in tasker when i want to use offline mode and send it all when i'm at home or somewhere with an wifi point or when i want to send it through 3g.

when i look on the trackme sites documentation at the live tracking part it says that the trackme tool sends kml files to its server. is that correct? I have an tasker profile (form the tasker wikipage tracker or something) that creates kml files for every trip i make with the correct data. Is it possible to use that to send to my trackme server? how does that kml file look like from the trackme program (can someone explain it to me) and how does trackme sends it to his server (and more important, can tasker send it "automagiclly").

AFAIK no, the TrackMe client never sends anything except post vars. And offline mode in theory is easy, just create a CSV and then read it again later. I have some pseudo Tasker code written down, just haven't done it yet.

My suggestion was that when I DO implement offline mode, it will be creating a CSV file as the storage for the data. When I go to upload, it'll load that file and upload each individual datapoint as individual requests to the Tasker server, just like it does normally. It'll of course upload with the time and such that the event occurred, not current time in this case.

I still haven't done offline mode, but I have started some clean up. I've simplified things a bit, and removed a few Tasks I really didn't need. Updated my documentation. Now I just need to go through it one more time and make sure it's cleaned up enough and still working right ;)

hey guys... I have some news. Just wanted to let you know that I have written a new version of TrackMe for Windows Phone 7. Sorry for keeping this so secretly! :)

It still doesn't have all the features than the one for Windows Mobile 6.x but if people gets interested I will keep adding them.

Here are some pics

http://luisespinosa.com/images/trackmewp7/screenshots4in1small.png

It is compatible with the viewer located at http://luisespinosa.com/trackme

You can download it from here (http://social.zune.net/redirect?type=phoneApp&id=8ebd20c9-1d80-e011-986b-78e7d1fa76f8)

So... I don't know if this will be the last version...everything depends on how much interest it gets.

NOTE:
I have created a thread specific for the WP7. Please post your comments there.

If you guys like TrackMe, do you think you can help me by promoting the app by writing some reviews in the WP7 marketplace? You don't have to give me 5 stars, just what you consider to be fair.

There is a guy who just uploaded an app called Track_Me that has nothing to do with me and he posted a negative comment for mine. It just says 'so bad'.
Very stupid doing that, because it's so easy to trace it and find out he is a developer.

Unfortunately it seems nobody is interested on TrackMe for WP7 (even if it is free with no ads), so it has been kind of disappointing for me after working for weeks on this.
I don't think I will update this again unless there is something in particular I need when using it.
So...because of this I don't think I will work on an Android version. Too much work for nothing.

This just makes me sad. Android is a whole different market than Win7, so not sure you should base what the Android response would be on what it was for Win7.

But I do understand your reasoning though. It just makes me sad as this is the only thing from my WM phone, for which I have not found a suitable replacement.

Yes, unfortunately with WP7 MS made yet another mistake in their mobile strategy, losing WM fans in the process and offering nothing of interest to new customers compared to iOS or Android. I'm pretty certain you would get the same level of interest with an Android version as you got with the VM version...and then some.

Aren't there already other programs for Android that do what TrackMe does? I'm surprised they haven't done anything yet.

I have found some similar programs that do not provide nearly the same functionality that I remember from TrackMe.

Granted, I do not know if this is due to some limitations of the Android system or lack of vision or skills of the developers, or just a different focus on what the developers wanted to make.

I've also been searching for a long time but haven't found a replacement for trackme. I really like the fact that I can host it on my own webserver! No other piece of software does this :-(. Hopefully you will create a version for Android. It's a bigger market anyway, hehe.

Self-hosting is one of the nicer things about TrackMe. And while I don't know about everyone, I would definitely even pay for TrackMe on Android, though I obviously would prefer it to stay free. :D

I would like to keep the program free but if I can get some revenue it would be even better :p

i'm new to android, too. but i would think, that the android market is THE way to get your program to the people... you could have two versions... one with adds and one without adds but maybe one extra feature and for a small payment... 1-3€ maybe. there a lot programs on the market like this... ... and btw. the android market and ms marketplace are not comparable. i've never downloaded one program over ms marketplace in years, but maybe 50 or 60 programs from the android market in the first month of usage... and i still have my hd2... i'm running andoid on sd atm... so i'm pretty sure your program will find it's way to the user a lot faster this way...

The only thing i miss since replacing my WM phone is your program, if you could do a version for android that would be awesome.

Like others have said whilst there are other apps nothing matches yours in terms of features.

kb1313 is spot on, I never downloaded a single app from the windows marketplace but since getting an android phone I've downloaded loads. He's also right in that it's very common to have 2 versions of software a free one with ads and maybe a limited feature set and a full version for sale. I'd buy the latter :)

There are actually a lot of programs on the market that have the full version free with ads and then a donate version that is exactly the same but gets rid of ads. There are also ones that are free if you go to the developer's web page but cost money on the marketplace. There are some that have a free version and donate version that are exactly the same.

In all of these cases, I have bought some apps. Some because the ad space was in the way, some because it is really worth it, and some because you should. Of course, I don't actually see any of the ads.

+1 for Android.. You will find a much more technical audience there that will actually appreciate the capabilities of this app. I jumped ship to Android (apparently along with most of the community here) and I'm never looking back. WP7 is not for me and neither is iOS. That said, if TrackMe was in the Android Market I would buy it. My server is still up and waiting for me to connect to it :D

You know me from this thread for some time. I promise you that if you get a full blown version that give me the same functionality as the 6.x version does I'm in. I have to admit that and ad driven version wouldn't be my way. If it's my only option then I'd take it. However, I'd rather see a Lite version and a paid version.

The iPhone version is much akin to the best of vaporware. The developers tell me it's coming and they will have it up....

I'd move to Android tomorrow if you put out an Android version. I like the idea of iPhone for me because my house is loaded with iOS devices because of the rest of my family. I'm still holding out with my TP2 in hopes of this one single app being available on a platform I want.

I think it's awesome you put out a WP7 version, but it just doesn't appeal to me personally at all. In the least. Your app is awesome, WP7...

So if you cobble up an Android version and allow even the same functionality of the current version and me using my own server then I'm going to replace my phone in the moments following your beginning distribution. :)

Hello gentlemen
I really this software but for some reason the "Start minimize/ Stealth mode" is not working on my Verizon Imagio WM 6.5 phone. I'm thinking to create/edit a shortcut to the startup folder with command line parameters or switch to minimize the Trackme if it can not minimize itself. for example in the shortcut properties it should have "\program files\Trackme\Trackme.exe -StartMinimze" but I do not know the syntax to replace the word "-StartMinimize" so that it can minimize trackme when start. anyone knows how to do this or a work around please help.

The Dark Side, yeah I did. For me the hacking of phones got bland and lost value. WP7 didn't do it for me and Android would have been too much work. I guess you could say I got lazy and don't want to "play" with my phone as much.

Basically when you have the time you want, you click on the X to close the pop up calendar and then click on Show to display the track.

i recently came back to using this app on my windows mobile 6.5 phone

i forgot my username and password from 2008-2009, all my tracking was stored on luis's server. i wish there had been a regular email password recovery procedure.

would it be possible to extract the data to a KML file saved locally ? why does it have to be uploaded to a website ?

it would be way more convenient for me to just backup kml files, rather than setup a website and the associated port forwarding on my computer.

If you give me your username I can try to generate a new password for you. You can send me your info to the email that appears here:

On the WM version there is an option to export the KML locally.

I think it is stored in the folder where you have TrackMe running. I don't have a WM phone with me so I cannot really check it right now. Maybe another user who still uses the program can give you more details.

nope thats all i have as an error message :(

Does it work when you create the file remotely?

i understand now its downloading from the server... thats not going to work for me :'( i had hoped for a direct sql extraction as i m about to cancel my 3g data plan.

Yes i was able to export a kml file from the website.

I think it is stored in the folder where you have TrackMe running.

yep, in my case it goes to program files\trackme.

the problem i had was with the new account (mrbryce)
i changed the credentials to the old account and now it downloads just fine.

changing subject,
there is a glitch in kml export you might be interested in. (you can test this on my old account)

when i go on the website and select trip <any> then click show,
then choose kml export, it exports an empty KML file (with headers only, no coordinates, 3Kb)
if i select a specific trip, then it exports just fine. (<100Kb per trip, total 200Kb, most coordinates are not part of any trip)

i tried today to export trip <any> from the winmo6.5 client, and the kml file contains all the coordinates ^^ (2Mb)

Thanks very much for replying, Lem. The calendar shows correctly, I can select date. But as soon as I press the Show button the dates revert back to their previous state.

the site is here: krikri.bg/gpstracks

is it possible that it is the browser or something hm... IE 9?

You're right. I just tried your site and had that problem. I tried with Firefox.
It's strange why works on my site and not on yours. I didn't write the web viewer so it's hard for me telling you where is the problem. I know that the person who wrote it used javascript for the calendars. Maybe you have an outdated version? I don't really know... I hope somebody can give some ideas. Good luck!

nope thats all i have as an error message :(

i understand now its downloading from the server... thats not going to work for me :'( i had hoped for a direct sql extraction as i m about to cancel my 3g data plan.

Yes i was able to export a kml file from the website.

yep, in my case it goes to program files\trackme.

the problem i had was with the new account (mrbryce)
i changed the credentials to the old account and now it downloads just fine.

changing subject,
there is a glitch in kml export you might be interested in.

Yeah...everything is generated on the server, so it needs to be downloaded first.

Regarding the problem with the web viewer...it's hard to tell. As I just mentioned in a previous post I didn't write it and the persons who worked on them haven't heard from them in a long time.
If the new Android version gets more and more popular I plan to rewrite it myself (unless people from the community wants to modify the existing one)

The <Any> option is kind of dangerous using it... Actually I don't think it should be there. It can be huge and kill completely the browser!

I believe that's due to the PHP problems in the code.. I posted about it long, long ago, but there are tons of global variables and it's really insecure (in general, I know of no security issues with TrackMe specifically) so most installations of PHP do not allow it. If you can, look in the web server logs and watch all of the failures when you try to do that.

The way to fix it is convert all of the variables from globals.

Here's a few posts I made on it in the past.. I thought I posted about some examples to fix, but maybe someone else did that.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3665891&highlight=global#post3665891
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4058311&highlight=global#post4058311

Basically what happens is previously if a form submitted a form entry named password, you could just reference $password. Now you must explicitely set the variable name. This page has good info on how to fix such problems..

http://wiki.lunarpages.com/PHP_and_Register_Global_Variables

And here's basically how I did it myself.. Found all of the global registers in use and made explicit variables for them. This is in index.php but there are globals in others as well..

// This is all one line, the forum splits it..
$selectRequestVariables = array("trip","ID","username","password","filter","startday","endday","custom_view","storeshowbearings","storecrosshair","storeclickcenter","storeoverview","storelanguage","storeunits","storestartdate","storeenddate");

foreach($selectRequestVariables as $selectRequestVar) {
// split across lines for readability
eval('$GLOBALS["'.$selectRequestVar.'"] = $'.
$selectRequestVar.' = isset($_REQUEST["'.
$selectRequestVar.'"]) ? $_REQUEST["'.
$selectRequestVar.'"] : "";');
}

Hello,
I used between 2 years the WM6 version. I've build my own server, and made some stats with my everyday home work commuter (50km/d) on my bike.
Since 1 year I use an Android phone (Desire), and I just discover two days ago there is an android version of Android.
Tried on 2 days, and there are some limitiations.
I put min dist to the min 50m, min time to min 10s and set accuracy to 100m.
On a trip of 26km for one hour, I've only 42 points.
With wm6, I've 425 points.

Any idea ?

I'll try to night with a accuracy of 1000m to see if this is the problem.

In Android the location services don't recommend a number less that 60 seconds. However I think you should get more positions. I will test it today on my way to work with those settings and I will let you know.

Thanks,
On wm6, 3600/425=8s A point every 8s.
On android the My tracks application tracks with more 1 point in 60s. I don't remember exactly the number.
I'm biking not walking.
For the back home ride, I'll remove the upload during the course to be sure there is no upload problem.
Anyway, thanks for this software compliant with the wm6 trackme version .

In my case I got 228 positions on a 66 Km trip (42 minutes) with the same settings that you were using.

Keep in mind that the time and distance on Android are approximate. The only way to get exactly one position every 10 seconds would be to leave the GPS on all the time without checking for distances.
Also it could also be that some positions were skipped because of the accuracy as you mentioned.
For the next version I will add in the log file what you see on the screen, that way you can send it to me and I can see exactly how often you were getting the positions.

It looks ok to me. You get most of your positions every 10-15-20 seconds.
It could also be possible that sometimes you don't reach the minimum distance so it takes a little bit longer.

Regarding the trip name there must be something wrong. Does it look ok when you see your trip with the web viewer?

I was biking and was a little tired friday evening :) . Is it possible to remove the minimum length ?
On the server, the trip is only 12 km but I connected to my sql server, and set the same FK_Trips_ID for all positions of my trip. Now it's almost ok about the distance (24,5 versus 26,5). But the altitude was totaly mad.

An other idea, could you set the trip name with the "metric" hour. I'm explaining. Instead of Auto-2011-11-25-08-23-31, put Auto-2011-11-25-20-23-21.
When trip are sorted, they're be in the good order.

This morning I try again on a small trip. Offline name is correct (Auto_2011_11.26_10.15.53) but trip name upload is 800 for one position, 300, 400, 000.
Also altitude was totaly crazy 500, 250, 000, 581 ... Speed seem's to be good.
Strange !

I found the problem. It's because of the regional settings. If you check your log your speed and altitude shows up like 6,500 instead of 6.500
This confuses the import process.
Sorry about that. I will fix it and release a new version later today.

PS: I'm going to do some testing with no minimum distance to see how it works. I'll let you know.

Are there any plans to tweak the app to take advantage of Mango's (supposed) enhancement to allow for apps to run "in the background"?

Unfortunately as far as I know that's not possible. Background apps on WP7 pauses and do not become active until brought to the foreground. You can have some code running in the background but is very restricted about what you can do.

WP7's SDK is very closed compared to Android. Hopefully they will change that one day.

I'm using 6.2.8.158 and it's working great on my Touch Pro2.

There are two issues/questions:

1. The battery gets depleted pretty quickly. I tried setting the update interval to less often and this doesn't seem to make a difference. I suspect this is because the GPS radio is powered up all the time. Any suggestions on saving battery?

2. It would be cool if I got an email or SMS with a certain message that TrackMe could be turned on, upload a location, then turn off. Any suggestions?

Thanks again!

The update interval should help. Do you keep the screen on for a long time? That's what really should make the biggest difference.
I don't turn off the GPS completely (it stays in standby) between updates because it would take a while to get a new fix every time that is turned on again. However maybe it would be a nice option to add in a future release.

Hi Luis,

Thanks for writing back.

On the battery -- I do have the screen off most of the time. I also have an extended battery. If I have TrackMe off, I can have 70% left at the end of the day. If I have TrackMe on, it might be 30%. So right now I turn it on and off manually.

On Andriod -- I have a really inexpensive plan with Sprint with my Touch Pro2. If I upgrade phones, my plan is going to be $20+ more per month so I have to stay where I am. If you get inclined, please think about adding the turn-on/off feature to the Windows version. If it's not too much time, maybe it'd be worth it. I could contribute $50 to help compensate your time... Maybe others might see it worth contributing too.

Thanks again,
Mark

In the config.php file there is a parameter called $public_page
You can set that parameter to "no"

There is a button called "Live Tracking on" that refreshes the page automatically. You can also specify an interval.

Hope it helps.

Are you still having that issue with uploading the data to the server? I just tried but it seems to work ok.

Hi LEM
Yes, LEM as of this morning, I start TrackMe at about 10:45AM and drove 20 minutes on the street to a shop where I get good GPS and Phone signal. it is now 12:03PM but NO DATA. Restarting Trackme sometime help but 75% of the time NO DATA either.
I'm getting so frustrated in the last few weeks. I just don't know what to do. there is nothing change on the phone but its very weird. I usually start Trackme up on windows start. but it doesn't upload the data. Sometime it does upload but the weird thing is if I open google earth or your web interface then Trackme will stop upload data right after that. May be the server doesn't like to INJECT uploaded data after it being open or use by google earth or web interface?

If the data doesn't get uploaded it should be stored in the offline file. Have you tried to upload that data later?

Try to enable the debugging options and send me the text file. That will give us an idea about what's happening.

Thank you, I missed that completely at the site I downloaded it from, and never read the first post here - I'm so :o again!!!

One other question if I may trouble you.

Once I have this working on my phone, I am going to try and install th server program on my server.
I see that Google no longer require registration for the API keys.

Will this affect the installation of the server scripts (downloaded from here - http://www.luisespinosa.com/trackme_eng.html#S10 )

Thanks again.

Yes, that's my website.
Regarding your question, to be honest, I'm not sure. I didn't write the web viewer so I'm not familiar with that. However I know some people installed it on their servers recently so it should work.

I will try it at some point soon and see if it does work.

Thank you for your help.

It's still working on my server. No issues at all with it as a matter of fact. :)

Thanks for that info Turtle - when I have some time I look forward to trying it.

In the meantime, do you know if it is possible to upload a file (gpx or kml) to the server manually from a pc, or does it only work if the file is sent directly from the device.

Thanks

OK - I have some time to try the server software and it seems to work - i'm sure I'll have some questions later when I've had time to study it more.

With regard to using information locally, I see there are several posts asking about exporting/storing data locally as gpx/kml files - and I see you took that feature out and have not considered replacing it.

I want to use Trackme for 2 purposes
- to create records of 'trips' which it does on the server.
- to geotag photographs tken on the trip - using Geosetter.

Unfortunately Geosetter requires local gpx files.

I'm sure it would be possible for a small PC utility to be developed that could extract the data from an offline copy of 'local.sdf' and create a gpx/kml file in the same way as the file 'export.php' on the server does with the sql database.

My question is - does anyone know any coders who could do this.

Here's hoping!!!!

I don't know of a way to get a track from another source into the TrackMe server page. Seems to only come from the phone. I'm sure there is a way, not something I've ever looked into though.

As for taking the track and making it a GPX this can be done but you must set the server to private as I'm pretty sure was mentioned by _LEM_ earlier in this thread. There is an export link in the menu near track selections and such.

Then you can export tracks for use with Geotagging. You can also export a track as a GPX using TrackMe that will be put on the server and is ready to download and use for Geotagging. You would FTP it down from the server or possibly right click and save as. I personally keep my server open for anyone to look at. (It's security by obscurity in my case) Because I do it this way you can not export it using the server front end.

Personally, It was easier for me to get a GPS data logger that I use for Geotagging. This proved easiest even with TrackMe. I can assure you, I love TrackMe and am one of the EARLY adopters.

Thanks Turtle - but I think you misunderstand my request.

Let me try to explain better.

On the phone Trackme creates an offline file for later upload called 'Local.sdf' which is a Sql file.
When Trackme uploads to the server it clears that file.

For the use I want to put it to (uploading to my server and also to geotag photgraphs on my home PC) all trips would be recorded offline and would be uploaded to my server when I got home.

Before running the upload I want to copy the 'local.sdf' file to my PC before it is cleared.

Now I have a copy of 'local.sdf' I need a utility to extract the data from it and put it in a format that can be read by the geotagging software 'Geosetter' which matches the time stamp in a gpx file with the time stamp of photographs and geotags them - adding the location to the photograph exif data.

On the server there is a file 'export.php' which does what is needed locally, but it is a php file which extracts data from a MYSql database to create one or both of the gpx and kml files for downloading back to the PC. It will only run on a server.

The utility I am talking about would do what 'export.php' does, but locally so the geotagging could be done even if for some reason the Trackme data could/was not be uploaded to the server.

There is a peice of free software called SDFBrowser (http://brain2cpu.com) which reads the 'local.sdf' file, but only exports it as a csv - shame it does not export xml which could be used as a gpx file.

By the way, in case it helps you, if you take pictures with your phone and they are geotagged, you can upload them with TrackMe. TrackMe will match them to the closest position that you have in the database by looking at the lat/long information.

I understand what you need, but as you noticed, TrackMe will only work with data that has been uploaded previously to the server. Whatever is stored in the sdf file is for temporary and internal use.

Thanks Lem.

if you take pictures with your phone and they are geotagged, you can upload them with TrackMe.

That's my problem. I need to Geotag the photos first, and to do it manually is a pain, and I don't want to run 2 different GPS trackers - either both on the phone or one on the phone and one on a separate gps unit - at the same time.

Whatever is stored in the sdf file is for temporary and internal use.

I'll just have to try and find a way of getting the times and locations out of a copy of 'local.sdf' and into a form that a geotagger can use.:(

I have now found a simple (relatively) way to use the data from a copy of the Trackme 'local.sdf' file to create a .gpx file on my PC, then to use Geosetter to Geotag photos.

I would ask though, is it possible to upload geotagged photos from the PC to my Trackme server for use with the data, or do these too have to be uploaded from the phone.

Thanks.
