thank you for the fun program!
small problem -- i must be missing something very simple
trackme works fine -- the log shows everything is uploaded to the server correctly:
Uploading ...
Position addded correctly
Generating remote kml file
Remote kml file generated correctly
Skipped: dist. .99 meters
etc etc
but when I'm trying to use Google Maps (or direct URL) to view the kml file, it's not there. I even changed my username to try it again, but no luck. I checked the URL many times, it seems correct:
http://luisespinosa.com/trackme/routes/(my username).kml
tried http://luisespinosa.com:80/ etc etc as well
error is "page not found"
also, when I tried to login to http://luisespinosa.com/trackme/index.php, it wouldn't let me (says username/password incorrect).
Thanks!

To give some relief to staryon's server and to give benifits to others, I'd like to find an easy way to setup accouts on my server for other people to use this application with a database of their own.

1) I want to add a link to my personal web page, so others can see my location on Google map. How do I use this link to auto log-on or how do I add username/password to the link, so it would log-on automatically (http://luisespinosa.com/trackme/index.php)?
2) That web page shows my last location but it doesn't display the Trip. Does the Show Trip work for others?
Thanks for any help...
PS. THANKS for the TrackMe program. It is very cool.
http://luisespinosa.com/trackme/index.php?username=????????&password=????????
Obviously you need to replace the ??????'s with your real user name and password.
And yes, the web page is working correctly displaying both trips and current location.

The application will work on your server just like it works on Staryon's server. If you have the files installed and it works for you it will work for anyone. They can create an account on your server just like they do on Staryon's (automatically with the PDA application).

hi everyone!
top software, i have spent ages trying to find something like this!!
Quick question / development idea....
My Mrs came up with this as she has a Vario III as well...
Would it be possible for a "panic" feature to be introduced?? so literally a button on the phone is re-mapped so on a press and hold, it generates an "alarm" or "red alert" which sends a txt message of her location (or google maps url etc) to a specified number / email address? etc etc.
Just an idea... i thought it was a good one!
Thanks again!

I've been messing around with TrackMe over the last week or so doing local tracking throughout the day in preparation for a trip abroad next week. It does eat battery as can be expected but it will survive the day with a usb battery pack to assist.
I've noticed one odd thing, I have the GPS set to get a fix every 2 minutes with power down inbetween, for the first couple of hours of run time it seems to run ok, after a while however, the status field shows 'Searching for satellites...' inbetween each fix indicating (to me) that the GPS hasn't actually powered down. This doesnt affect the fix's which proceed as normal but if it is the case is certainly having an adverse effect on my battery life! Unfortunatly I don't know any way of finding out directly if the GPS is powered or not to prove this theory!
Am I simply misinterpreting the status field here?
I will check it out.

Yes of course I did. "Generate KML file" and "remote" both checked..
Maybe my username was too short (3 letters)? But it didn't complain..

Hi Guys
I've been using trackme on my Prophet with a Bluetooth GPS for about a month and have been really impressed. Last week i recently became the owner of a Touch Dual, I've install the latest version of Trackme but im having an issue.
When i set the software going, it grabs the initial co-ords from the gps and updates to the website perfectly, but afte that, all i get is the message about skipping update cos ive not moved. If i turn off the option to skip updates if i havent moved X meters, it updates to the website, but the co-ord stays the same. Its like once its got the initial co-ords it cant get anymore from the gps.
I've tried a number of things, including getting trackme to use the bluetooth comport directly, via the WM6 gps sharing utility and even with Franson GPSGate, but the result is the same.
I've also tried uninstalling, manually removing the settings file and then reinstalling but that dont work either.
My gps device is working fine as I can use google maps to track my location.
Im using the latest version, which i beleive is 2.3.0.39.
Does anyone have any ideas as Im really stumped.

I have a suggestion for you...
Do you think you can add an option to delete a trip (and it's positions) and another one to rename a trip name from the browser?
I don't have the option to rename the trip name in TrackMe, but I plan to add it.
Thanks

New version available!!
New features:
- Geofence
- Ability to select unit (Metric/English)
- For remote storage you can choose not to upload anything and store everything in the remote file. This is good if you know that you are not going to have internet connection and you don't want to be trying to reconnect all the time. Later you can upload this offline data.

Next version will include the ability to upload images.
However before doing that I want to have a stable version, so I'm going to spend some time cleaning my code and optimizing some routines.

I have a file called route.kml on my AT&T Tilt Pocket PC (which I checked it with Google Earth and it shows my GPS locations) and I want to upload it to the free server. When I go to upload that file (Tools/Upload offline positions), I get an error telling me: You don’t have offline positions stored. I also tried the Tools/Export GPS Positions (with source=local, destination= remote), and it tells me .kml file uploaded correctly (File http://luisespinosa.com:80/trackme/routes/zzkz.kml), however the free server only shows the world map and not my GPS locations. Can anyone recommend something for me to try to fix this issue? THANKS

I was using this application with my own server without any problem but now I'm getting in trouble by using the 2 last version of cab and Server.
Everything seems correct:
* Application (ppc) connect, say position uploaded , able to list track
* Web part working fine (show older track...)
If I create a new track the track is created in the database. but no position is stored...
I assume the error is coming because install.php doesn't update my older position table with appropriate columns (for speed and altitude?)
Columns exist as this : Altitude double No 0 ->no null accepted is this could be the cause?
Is it possible to help me on how to update position table ?
If not what could be the cause?

Thanks for you update! I finally manage to get the correct search keyword to found the Alter.
But it seems that database is ok, I have this for "positions" table :
ID int(11) No auto_increment
FK_Users_ID int(11) No 0
FK_Trips_ID int(11) Yes NULL
Latitude double No 0
Longitude double No 0
DateAdded timestamp Yes CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
DateOccurred timestamp Yes 0000-00-00 00:00:00
Altitude double Yes 0
Speed double Yes 0
is this ok ?->DateOccurred timestamp Yes 0000-00-00 00:00:00
i'm in french reginal settings.
I'm pretty sure that is coming from my database structure ... but why ? And the applic report me that the upload is succesfull.

Hi Staryon
Geofence -great idea. I can't appear to get it to work though. I have my home lat/long entered and a 250m "fence". It's enabled but doesn't send an email (btw could it have an SMS option too - more instant and direct).
What is the "Notified" tickbox. Does this show it has triggered?
Thanks for a great app!

What value did you entered exactly in the Distance field?
Yes, the Notified checkbox shows if it was triggered.
Not sure about SMS... maybe if I find a way of using Outlook internally I may get it. The problem with this is everything needs to be done automatically without user interaction.

I think the geo fence is cool too. One bug I noticed though. when you first go to add an alert, it asks for the distance in meters, (even if "english" is selected in config) BUT when you go back in edit the alert it changed to either km or Miles depending on config. SO if you go in the first time and enter 250 meters (which is the unit it's asking for) it actually sets it for 250 km or 250 miles.

i use a program called download accelerator by winmoble then you just copy the link from pie and paste it in that program, or you can set it to intercept pie downloads automatically

adebilloez,
It's difficult for me to tell you where is the problem unless I have access to your SQL tables and PHP code. I have the impression the problem is related with your tables. Something that you can try is to create a new database using the install script and compare that one with yours, and see if there is something different.

First of all I'd like to thank Staryon and Jcleek for their continued efforts - it's nice to see an app evolve so much in such a short period of time.
Staryon - I have noticed that if you have the GPS set to turn off between points you can't use the force update/e-mail position functions. You also can't go into the Geofence and add "current location" as a marker as all these options rely on the GPS being on. Is it possible to make these functions activate the GPS in order to update your position?
Thanks
daesimps
Staryon,
Another thing i noticed is that when i put my Kaiser in landscape mode, i can't scroll down in the configuration menu. Would it be possible to add a scroll bar?
Sure. It shouldn't be a problem.
I noticed this was in quite an early post (page 11), and was wondering if you've had chance to implement it yet please?
Whilst configuring the Remote tab (in advanced mode) and entering in my server URL, I switch to landscape to enter the details, but can't scroll down to see all of the config fields.
Many thanks.

Did i mention the possibility of sending an SMS as an option instead of an email? There must be a SendSMS API somewhere?

Hi Luis,
It would be great to support ASP websites as well as PHP.
So an extra option (checkbox) so send the data in ASP format to a server.
This would make the product even for more people to use!
I have create a working sample what a ASP server should receive
So it’s the text after the /gps/requests.asp what shout be send
/gps/requests.asp?username=knuvers&password=test&lat=51.7250665&long=5.30120716666667&dateadded=2007-12-5%2018:25:37&dateoccurred=2007-12-5%2018:25:36&tripname=&speed=&altitude=56 80 - 77.63.3.72 - 404 0 2
All the rest is the same. If you digg this I’m willing to test of course. I think it’s a very small adjustment for you and creating much more people with your great Trackme prog
Hope you can help

First of all I'd like to thank Staryon and Jcleek for their continued efforts - it's nice to see an app evolve so much in such a short period of time.
Staryon - I have noticed that if you have the GPS set to turn off between points you can't use the force update/e-mail position functions. You also can't go into the Geofence and add "current location" as a marker as all these options rely on the GPS being on. Is it possible to make these functions activate the GPS in order to update your position?
Thanks
daesimps
At this moment is complicated to do this. With my current implemention the only way of reading data from the GPS is when you press START. I could press START automatically when is required. However you will to have to be clicking over and over on 'add current location' because you don't really know when the GPS already got a right fix.
I don't think this looks very good, so I prefer not to change that by now.

Whilst configuring the Remote tab (in advanced mode) and entering in my server URL, I switch to landscape to enter the details, but can't scroll down to see all of the config fields.
Many thanks.
Sorry but I forgot about that. I'll take a look right now.

I can't seem to find it mentioned anywhere, but which version of MySQL does your server code support? I imagine it must be v5 because when I tried to import SQL commands into v4 I received the following error:
#1074 - Too big column length for column 'URL' (max = 255). Use BLOB instead.
CREATE TABLE `icons` (
`ID` int( 11 ) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT ,
`Name` varchar( 255 ) NOT NULL ,
`URL` varchar( 512 ) NOT NULL ,
PRIMARY KEY ( `ID` )
) ENGINE = MYISAM DEFAULT CHARSET = utf8 AUTO_INCREMENT =1
It's all fine on v5 but thought I'd mention it just in case.

When they are fired, I set the checkbox 'Notified' to true.
If you want it to fire again, you can uncheck it manually or just going to 'Reset notifications'

I just uploaded a new version that fixes that error. You will have to generate the KML again.

Do you have installed Compact Framework 2.0?

Does the GPS data contain the direction of travel (I presume so as tomtom shows it) and if so can this be added to the database.
It would be handy in the baloon to see which way the person/vehicle is moving.

You are confusing some terms.
http://luisespinosa.com:80/trackme/routes/zzkz.kml is a EXPORTED trip
which could be generated in many different ways. Maybe it was created for a specific trip, any trip, with a date range... whatever parameters you chose.
It's a custom exported file.
When you go to http://luisespinosa.com/trackme/index.php, you view all the positions for a specific trip (based on the trip you have selected in the drop down box). That viewer doesn't use KML files.

Okay, thanks for clarifying. I want to save GPS locations on my Pocket PC, then to upload the data for viewing on your free server (http://luisespinosa.com/trackme/index.php ). I must not have the right settings. After my trip, I select Upload offline positions from the Tools menu and I get an error saying that “Config – You don’t have offline positions stored.” What settings do I need under the Config menu in order to have your program save GPS positions for uploading later?
I have selected the Always for Remote tab under the Offline data (store locally if…).
I also have selected Locally for Store positions: under the Storage tab.
I have checked the Generate KNL file with Local for the Destination file(s) under the Realtime Tracking tab.

If you haven't done yet, I suggest that you read the documentation about the program. I also recommend you to check the option 'Hide Advanced settings' by now until you got more experience with the program.

Did i mention the possibility of sending an SMS as an option instead of an email? There must be a SendSMS API somewhere?
I'm fairly certain that all carriers have some email-to-sms gate address. I'm on AT&T here in the States, and I can send a short email to 2225551212@txt.att.net and it shows up on my phone. It's a work-around for now until/if/when staryon adds direct sms functionality.
Here's a list I found online... Replace 2225551212 with your actual 10-digit mobile phone number. Maybe your carrier is listed here. If not, check their web site or call customer service.

Hey staryon... I don't know if you can get your hosting company to update their mime.types file, but if you add the following to mime.types, then cab files will download correctly:
application/cab cab
If they don't want to update it, you can add the following to the/a .htaccess file in the /bin directory of your webspace:
AddType application/cab cab
That'll get rid of the "refresh" trick when downloading the cab file directly to the phone with PIE. Internet Explorer incorrectly ignores mime types sent to the server from .htaccess files, though, so I don't know for sure if the .htaccess mime type will work in PIE.
Let me try on my server... CONFIRMED! The .htaccess file mime type will work with Pocket IE.

Result:3 // You need to specity an username and password for the user
Result:4 // Unable to create trip

the main problems are:
(i think) it doesnt read gps position, when the option "don't upload consecutive...." is checked, then TM informs me all the time that it skkips position cause.... i'm not moving, when i uncheck that option, then TM uploads points to the server, but when i'm checking my track at Google Earth, all the points of my route are in one place, mostly it's the begining of my route.
Time to time TM reads the position corectly, but i have to find out: when
2nd problem, i cant check the closest buddy, when i do it, TM gives me error:

It seems that with Firefox works fine but it doesn't with IE.
Let's wait for jcleek to see this post, I'm sure he will be able to help you.
I tried to reproduce the problem on my server and am unable to do so. Based on what I see on Staryons server I looked at the code and here is how it works:
1) Is this a private server: yes
2) Is there a cookie set from a previous login: yes
The second time you go to the link http://luisespinosa.com/trackme/index.php?username=zzkz&password=zzkz the username and pass being passed are IGNORED as the cookie was set from the previous login. Putting the user name and pass do absolutely nothing.
So why is this happening on Staryon's server? Actually I submit that this is an IE setting problem and NOT a server problem. You might try to tell IE to stop caching pages.
Is anyone else running their own server experiencing this problem?

New version available!!!
- You can access the Configuration and other menus without pressing STOP first
- GeoFence. Ability to send emails and/or SMS
- Send position by sms added.
- Emails and SMS messages now contain 2 links. The first one is a link to Google Maps to watch it on your PC, and the second one is a link to a static image that can be seen by PDAs. TrackMe will try to generate a short link, if not possible it will just use the regular Google Maps link.
PS: Personally I'm very proud of this version!! :) It took me a long time to figure out the way of generating static images out of Google Maps and also it was an adventure to find the way of sending SMS internally (it also cost me a some euros to test over and over the functionality). On the other hand, I had to redo many things so you don't need to click on STOP for accessing the menus. I tried to do everything transparent to the user and as easy as possible.
I hope you guys appreciate all this and visit that link that I have in my signature ;)
Enjoy!!

If you haven't done yet, I suggest that you read the documentation about the program. I also recommend you to check the option 'Hide Advanced settings' by now until you got more experience with the program.
Please take a look at the documentation first and I'll be glad in helping you with any problems.

I have read your tutorial but there seems to be an issue with your server. I am using an AT&T Tilt (WM6 Pro)/Kaiser and running TrackMe V2.3.1.41. I used your program this morning and it was able to generate a KML file remotely on your site (look at the date/time) at http://luisespinosa.com/trackme/routes/zzkz.kml , however, if you go to http://luisespinosa.com/trackme/index.php and login using username=zzkz and password=zzkz, you will not see any data from this morning, when you click on Show Trip, and if you click on Show Last Location, you would see data from few days ago (I think an earlier version of TrackMe was somehow working, just the Show Last Location. The Show Trip has never worked and it only shows the world map). I also get an error saying “You don’t have offline positions stored.” when I select Menu/Tools/Upload offline positions. Any suggestions!!!

We who use our own server get no buddies (or at least I do not). So, I was wondering if the Buddy part of Trackme could always hit your server to upload our position and then check for closest person to us.

I checked your data in the database and yes, you have some positions stored there.
I just told jcleek about this problem. I think the problem happens if you have positions with no trip assigned.

I checked my code and I just found a problem. This feature was returning your closest buddy based on your OLDEST uploaded position. It should be based on your LATEST uploaded position. I just fixed that.
It's only on the server side (I only changed the file requests.php)

I prefer not to change that, so I keep it consistent with the rest.

Hi!
This program looks great! I have installed int an a asus p535 with wm6.
I have configured my GPS port COM2 with the 4800 rate. It's the same as I use for all my GPS programs.
But when i click connect it says: "waiting for GPS response"
I'm sure this is the port and I have no other GPS program connected at the same time.
When I test another simple GPS program, i receive all satellites, so I have a GPS signal at the moment.
What might be the problem? Unsupported internal GPS?
Thanks!

Thank you for you quick answer!
The gpsinit didn't work, but i think it's normal because the program tries to open a com4, port right? And my internal GPS is using COM2.
I have downloaded the evaluation version of GPSState, and i have done the some as the user on the post you provided me. And in fact know i can use TrackMe!!!
The only thing i did was a redirect from com2 to com5, and know i can use the program. But it's only for 14 days :(
Do you have any idea of what is happening? Im 100% sure that no other program is sharing the com2 port. I have also done a soft reset and tested again but it only works with gpsstate sharing com4.
Thank you very much for you help!
btw: I'm already seeing this on the web interface.. Its really amazing!

i think that TM was working pretty fine (i mean, it has stored the position corectly,) when there wasn't internet connection so it was storing all the points to the offline file.
But when i wanted to try to do it, i had similar problem as:
Thanks!
i had allready that problem couple of times but always after few minutes it was working fine. It was quite strange cause TM was already running once toady, and TM has found some satellites.
So it seems that TM has problems with asus pdas.
I don't give up, so tomorrow i'll try to split my GPS port, and then at one time i want to run TM (if it find any satellite ;) ) and some other GPS prog which can log gps position.
by the way, maybe you can do it some kind of option which will show actual position in TM on main screen ?

It looks like your GPS stops getting data for a few minutes. Very strange.
For that reason TrackMe is always reading the same data.
Try with that other program. Let's see if that resolves the problem.

hmmm
do anybody knows some GPS generator/emulator for PPC ?
then it would be much easier to test TM

hmmm it seems that using port spliter on my asus, makes that TM serach satellites quckier. Try it on yours. I'm going to check it right now, lets see if it works outside ;)

i dont know what to think about it. After i splitted my gps signal on 2 ports i tried to log gps signal in 2 programs, 1st was TM and 2nd GPSdash.
here are results:
60854- it's rar file actually.
what it can be ?
i tried all option. Online storing to server, storing to offline file and storing to local KML file, all the results are the same.
http://luisespinosa.com/trackme/routes/karol-pl.kml local KML is in attach.
the results of the GPSdash are mostly corect ;)
route1 (TM works in online mode): 60855 - zip file
route2 (TM works in offline mode): 60856 - zip file
route3 (TM works in local storing mode): 60854

Yes, you are right! GPSGate solved my problem. But its costs 19$ :(
So I have tryied several programs including port splitter and none worked for me...except one! GPSProxy!!!! :)
You can proxy a connection from COM2 to COM5 and everything runs great! So, it's a good solution to Asus users.
Note: Some Asus users(like me) will do do some tweaks to the gpsproxy! Here is the link with all the info:

We have found the problem. When jcleek has a chance he will be releasing a new version of the viewer.

Another new version available with very nice features!
- When viewing a map on your pda, you can pan and zoom your location.
- Added option to show current position on map.
Note:
When viewing the map on Pocket Internet Explorer, you can select the option Menu->View->Desktop if you don't want to view the image resized.
Server files have been updated. (only change is the new file gm.php)

staryon,
I installed the program two days ago, never got around to using it ... tried this morning and it wouldn't get gps signal. came home and looked at the thread to find an updated version (thank you for all your hard work btw) ... so i reinstalled and gps signal works :) ...
now i did setup my server using jcleek's code (thank you too dude!) ... but when TrackMe tried to upload the coordinates ... i get the following:
Uploading offline xx.xxx, xx.xxx
Unable to upload position: An error message cannot be displayed because an optional resource assembly containing it cannot be found.
Offline process finished.
Some positions have not been uploaded.
You need to run this process again later.
googled the error, and it seems like a .net framework issue or something :s
please help
hi, this seems to b a great app. i love all the gps stuff. I just seem to be having trouble viewing any of the maps on my Kaiser. I get an 400 error within PIE with a message saying that my client has issued a malformed or illegal statement.
Like i said, i get this problem when trying to view any of the map pictures, whether from an sms link or the new option of viewing your own position on the map.
hope you can help.

New version: when you say "view map on your pda" do you mean by following link from the geofence notification or something else?

Try this (I added to the first post):
2. In case you get messages like this while using the program: An error message cannot be displayed because an optional resource assembly containing it cannot be found you need to install this file (http://luisespinosa.com/bin/System_SR_ENU.CAB) from Microsoft that will provide description of error messages.

When you have this problem what address (URL) you have in PIE? Do you think you can give me that information?

That'll get rid of the "refresh" trick when downloading the cab file directly to the phone with PIE. Internet Explorer incorrectly ignores mime types sent to the server from .htaccess files, though, so I don't know for sure if the .htaccess mime type will work in PIE.
Let me try on my server... CONFIRMED! The .htaccess file mime type will work with Pocket IE.
Thanks a lot! I will try that.
Hi Staryon,
Still loving this fantastic tracking app and I always look forward to your new and updated versions.
I do prefer to download new CABs via PocketIE over wi-fi because it removes the need for a computer, but as described in previous posts, I too can't download your TrackMe.CAB file. I was therefore wondering if the information above worked or not on your webserver?
Many thanks for your help.

I'm trying this... but still I cannot make it work from PIE. I'm still researching...
