Hang on, although the default it fine, the error happens when I change the colour scheme. I use Wizbar Advance and I've just added this application to the list of excluded applications for the Wizbar theme and it's all fine. Strange how Wizbar seems to have this effect when you change colours, but not on the default one. Ah well, all is fine now! :-)

That is only for desktops. The limitation is from the Google Maps API and compatibility with Pocket IE.

Kaiser's GPS is not very accurate when walking because you cannot disable static navigation. That's probably the reason why you are having that problem.

The number of satellites I usually get (both when driving and walking) is 6-8.
I really doubt that the Kaiser's gps is so bad that gives inaccuracy of around 1 mile ;), and at the same time the pinpoints are placed correctly relative to each other when you ignore the map.

...I'll try driving later today and see if it makes any difference...

"Static navigation is basically a feature of many GPS devices or chips. Think of it as a filter to correct or hide data which are incorrect due to reflections, tall buildings, trees and so forth. Your GPS chip fixes your location by calculating data received from satellites and thus, any alteration to it could lead to an inaccurate fix. If the data does not take an direct path to the receiver, the chip might be misled and thus be unable to fix your position or fixes a position that is jumping around."

Someone mentioned Geotagging for photos with this software a long time ago, but i just came to realize that it would be very easy to do this if we could export to a gpx file.
All you have to do is set the clock on your digital camera - any digital camera - to the same time as the phone (hopefully the correct time), and then log your position as you take photos. Once you get home, there is software avaliable that combines your gps position log with the photos' time stamps and determines where you were when you took them.

and actually, the program above says it uses either G7T or GPX formats.

I haven't implemented yet because I think only one person asked for that and at this moment that's a lot of work to do and most of the people will not use. I may remove it from the to-do list. Not sure yet.

However, I'm thinking in adding a tool in TrackMe where you can import pictures using the GPS data stored on it. It depends how difficult will be to do this.

Hi Staryon - I was just out playing with TrackMe and had a suggestion for 'Forced Updates' So far they seem to work really well, even off-line which is great. However, when I try to set an icon, TrackMe tries to download the list of icons from the server, then after failing (remember - in off-line mode), TrackMe pops up an error followed by 'Do you want to try to use the icons stored locally?' This takes up to 30 seconds. Is there any way to allow me to choose <local icons> or <remote icons> before trying to connect? My forced updates are missing the mark due to the time it takes to fail and suggest local icons. Maybe a check box for a few local icons (even just the camera icon) on the Forced Update page or a Default Forced Update Icon in the configs?

One more thing - I read that another of the GPS trackers allows uploading of video... (yes - I have unlimited bandwidth / wifi) Any way to allow us to upload video files on the device? I am using my own server, but maybe only allowing MMS videos could help keep storage space under control on the public server.

TrackMe does store the positions so they can be uploaded later if you have no service... manually via a button in Tools. When you stop a current trip, the program will remind you to upload offline data.

Well instead of pasting the "positions" table in sql directly, I manually added it without the:

`DateAdded` timestamp NOT NULL default CURRENT_TIMESTAMP,
`DateOccurred` timestamp NULL default '0000-00-00 00:00:00',


Then I inserted them afterwards and it seems to work now

Now my only problem exists of a problem with the DateAdded en DateOccurred timestamps. My mysql db doesnt accept the code I pasted here above so I had to set both default values to NULL.

CURRENT_TIMESTAMP and '0000-00-00 00:00:00' wont be accepted.

If anyone knows a solution for that, then its all fixed :D

Whenever I stop/exit TrackMe the process trackme.exe stays in memory. I cannot kill it using either taskmgr or process explorer. If I start it a second time a new process gets created. Does anybody have the same experience?

yes, it seems that SQL Server 3.5 is not backward compatible, so when I upgraded it, it stopped working. I'll try to find the problem.

What you are looking for has been discussed and is on the to-do list. I asked for this a while ago, but it is not an easy feature to implement, so it is taking staryon a while.
What i was asking for is the ability to have trackme run all the time in the background, and wake the device up to take a GPS fix, then go back to sleep, at a set interval.

I had to update some code that was no longer compatible with SQL Mobile 3.0 (thanks Microsoft)
It took me *only* 2 days to find out what was causing the problem :(

The I always have to do a soft reset. Did I miss something or does'nt it work on my model?

Our phones have just as much capability as those stand-alone geotagging devices, but they cost $100 or more. I really want to find SOME application for our phones that will log to a GPX file, and it seems like yours is the closest chance i have. As a photographer i really want to be able to geotag the photos i take with my SLR, and other solutions are very expensive. Do you take donations? I'd donate to the cause if it would encourage you to add the feature. It's the rogue developers that make our platform rock. :)

I check using taskmgr.exe, a free third party app. Process Explorer (PE) shows it as well. Getting rid of the minimized version is done with the iLauncher taskmanager, which sits in the top-right corner and behaves just like the HTC taskmanager.
BTW I am using a Dutch WM6 Rom on a Trinity, don't know if that matters

I have been working on that for a couple of days. No luck so far.
I haven't found a way of hiding the application as soon as it starts (without showing it) The best that I got was to show it for a few seconds first before hiding it.

Even that would be great. If the app starts and then hides who's going to find it on a pocket PC without some experience or knowledge? (We'll have to keep thieves and the such likes off these forums :) )

I installed PHP/MySql on a windows 2003 standard server. Both appear to be functioning correctly. I ran the install.php script to setup the options. The first time I ran the install script, I used the IP address for my "database server address". Once I clicked "complete installation", I got an error "failed to connect to database". I went back and use "localhost" as my database server address. This time when I click "complete installation", it was successful. However, when I try to view the map using index.php, I get the message "failed to connect to database. Display terminated". I know the scripts successfully connected to the database because it created the tables.

Any thoughts?

hi great program ive tried sone of the others and there too complicated this is perfectly simple and does everything you need i do however have a problem although it works on my xda exec(universal) using a bluetooth gps it doesnt work though on my xda orbit(artemis) when starting the actually logging process as soon as it atempts to connect with the inbuilt gps it locks up the device i read earlier that someone else had this problem and u suggested GPS init, i tried this and it didnt make any difference i was wondering if you could investigate this a little? all my other gps programs work fine, if you need anyone with an xda orbit to test changes then i'll freely help! i run my own server with the server side stuff on it

I went back and use "localhost" as my database server address. This time when I click "complete installation", it was successful. However, when I try to view the map using index.php, I get the message "failed to connect to database. Display terminated". I know the scripts successfully connected to the database because it created the tables.

i had some database errors untill i first uploaded some data from the application. i went outside sent my first postion went back inside refreshed and it then all worked fine

hi great program ive tried sone of the others and there too complicated this is perfectly simple and does everything you need i do however have a problem although it works on my xda exec(universal) using a bluetooth gps it doesnt work though on my xda orbit(artemis) when starting the actually logging process as soon as it atempts to connect with the inbuilt gps it locks up the device i read earlier that someone else had this problem and u suggested GPS init, i tried this and it didnt make any difference i was wondering if you could investigate this a little? all my other gps programs work fine, if you need anyone with an xda orbit to test changes then i'll freely help! i run my own server with the server side stuff on it

Thank you everyone for replying to this. I think i have a PHP/MySql issue. I can connect fine to the database using the command line and my username/password. However, I found a sample PHP script to test PHP to MySql and get a "unable to connect to database error. Access denied for user root@localhost (using password YES)". This tells me that PHP in general can't communicate with MySql and this app won't work until I fix this. I did as you suggested and tried to collect data via the PDA and it gets the same "can't connect to database" error. This is all fresh installs. If anyone has advice for me on this, I appreciate it. I'm looking at other forums as well.

TrackMe doesn't work with smartphones because it uses some controls that don't exist on that version.

i hadnt tried the gps gate program i have now though and yes it works but its the only program on my device that needs it maybe having a debugging lo would help? to identify why it happens. i'll have a search on the net when im at home and see if i can delve deeper into it.

oh and if it helps the gps light confirming the gps is active does light and flash indicating that TTrackme seems to have oppened the port and started the built in gps. its just the device locks up.

ps the gps port splitter built into wm that you mentioned further back which u suggested does not make any difference even tho all my other progs use it fine.

I just went through most of the thread as well as attempted to search. I found tidbits about a resize.php being able to resize uploaded pictures so it seems that the upload feature (in general) should be working in the latest build.

However, when I attempt to do a forced upload with an image to my personal server, I receive an "error copying file" error. My image file is tiny (13kb). Another variable is that my hosting service is running MySQL 3 so I had to do some tweaking on the SQL code to get it to create the tables (change the date format, remove 'default' and 'utf-8' references, and reduce the varchars to 255. The imageURL is originally supposed to be a varchar(512), but MySQL 3 can't handle above 255. Just in case the field was too small for the url string, I tried using varchar(255) as well as largetext, but that didn't seem to help. Also, I created a subdomain, rather than use the trackme path, so my server looks like http://whereis.me.com rather than http://me.com/trackme. I'm not sure if the app is hardcoded for the /trackme or not.

Another 'bug(?)' I found is that the "show position on map" feature still uses luisespinosa.com/trackme/gm.php even though a different server is specfied in the configuration. Is this a bug or intended? Not a big deal, just something I noticed.

Has anyone else been able to upload images to their own server?

It used to be a zip, but since we were updating files constantly, it was really a pain to create a zip every time there was a small change. On the other hand you really have to do that just one time. After that, you just need to check what's new and download it.

Maybe it should go there only if you are working in local mode and you are not specifying a remote server... I'll think about it. I think you're right...

Keep in mind that the pictures are uploaded to that Pics folder, so you need write permissions, otherwise it would be impossible to upload any files.

yes mate i knew about that before and on my other device (I own a universal, artemis and a hermes) its always been enabled, infact the gpsgate program connects to the actual com port 4 that is provided by that program in the first place, so its splitting the port again after the windows gps program already has, if that makes sense

com 3 (gps) ---> windows sends to com 4 ---> gpsgate recieves 4 then sends to com 7 ---> trackme works ok

direct to com 3 or 4 with windows gps on or off freezes device.

My GPS Speedo software works (a freeware app from somewhere)
and Memory Map OS also Tom tom and copilot...

In other words, did my act of installing these overwrite a version that was already installed with WM6/Smartphone, then when I deleted them the phone no longer has them, leading to mysterious problems down the road?

I hope the answer is no :(

I would really like to create a version for Smartphones but it's A LOT of work, because there are some many controls that are not compatible and I will have to change one by one.
Unfortunately I didn't know that when I started writing TrackMe (actually it's my first Compact Framework application that I write) otherwise I would have only used compatible controls for the program, so I don't have to do that now.

In summary, I cannot tell you... it depends if I don't start working on other projects, and if there is enough interest in a version for smartphones...

thanks for the information... honestly, I don't really know why people using Artemis have to use gpsgate to get TrackMe to work... it's so weird... I just open a COM port and listen to it... nothing else. Sorry I cannot help you more with that.

Why don't just you just leave it? As far as I know CF3.5 is much faster than CF2.0 so most of the applications should work better with a newer version.

When I run cgautil it now says: "Microsoft (R) .NET Compact Framework [2.0.7045.0]", but then the wheel thing spins indefinitely.

did the my server install. followed the instructions to the letter and when I go to my site I get these two errors

on my server it did not save the google api information to the config.php download that off your server open it in notepad or something look for the bit that says google api or similar and paste it in between the "" now save it then re-upload to site the mysql errors will continue untill you first upload some data to it off your device :-)

The only data that TrackMe uploads are pictures. I don't have too much experience with PHP I hope other people can give you more information about that.

Are you using live tracking? If not, and you want the latest trip, you need to use the Export function and select the trip that you are interested in.

If you by live tracking means real time tracking in google earth, where you should use refresh and FLY TO VIEW ON REFRESH i have done that just like the turial says?

In the beginning it was not a problem but after I removed my memoriecard and put in again the error message began.

Hower sometimes I'm getting the error Can't find PInvoke sqlceme30.dll when I try to run TrackMe and i haved tried with the other file sqlc30 something.

In the beginning it was not a problem but after I removed my memoriecard and put in again the error message began.

I have HTC3600 with mobile 5 and a have installed Trackme and SQL on the memoriecard.

Any suggestions!

Are you using the latest version of the SQL and Compact Framework?
It seems that you still have the old SQL Server 3.0 installed.
You need the new version 3.5

I am having a problem with using my own server.

When I use the server at luisespinosa.com my Kaiser tracks accurately. But when I use my own server it records the coordinates around 350 miles away.

Any ideas?

Maybe the fields Latitude and Longitude have not the right type, and it cannot store the data with the right precision. However that shouldn't be happening if you just run the script.

I guess let me dig further into this. The fields are type Double and looking at the tables the stored values reflect the incorrect map readings I am seeing.

Something must be up either with the GPS or the upload mechanism. I think the program and the phone are not at fault since it works with your server so maybe it is something with my server.:confused:

I have only used the 3 files that are in first post . The framework 3,5 file , Sql server 3,5 and trackme.

But after I got this problem I read in the FAQ section in the first post about this error ,so I installed the sqlce30 file that is recomended there. But it didn't solved the problem.

However, I have uppgraded another HTC3600 to wm6 today. I will intall Trackme on that one tomorrow and se if I get the same error.

My fault. Sorry. I should have removed that from the FAQ because that was for the old version, when SQL Mobile 3.0 was needed.
Now you need SQL Mobile 3.5
Maybe you have both versions running on the pda for some reason... I'm not sure...

If you by live tracking means real time tracking in google earth, where you should use refresh and FLY TO VIEW ON REFRESH i have done that just like the turial says?

Bjur, I haven't answered because I don't know what to say so I was hoping that other people could help you. That configuration looks ok for me. Maybe the problem is on the Google Earth side, that is not configured correctly. Did you try to open the KML file with Google Maps to see if the current trip is displayed correctly?

I know that I can then upload these offline positions when I return home to provide the complete route.

My question is, can these stored offline positions be retransmitted once the internet connection is re-established after the phone call, rather than manually uploading them when the journey ends? At the moment once I finish the call, Trackme then continues to upload data, so I wondered if at that point it could send the stored positions at the same time?

If there is no data in the database then you will get errors. The web script is designed to show you the data in the database. There is no point in setting up the web page if you aren't going to have data to show. I suppose I could put that in the instructions but it sure seems obvious to me...

Yes, somebody already asked that sometime ago. I'm not sure if I will add it, I have to check my code to see how difficult it will be.

By the way, I'm sorry I haven't uploaded a new version yet. I'm having problems with Visual Studio 2008 because I cannot install it on my computer. As soon as I get it to work and I will start adding the minimize function to TrackMe.

well, the first time that you install it you are not going to have any data. I don't think it should give you errors even if you don't any data. The code should be ready to handle any situation.

Done. I don't understand why but it now will give an error if any table has no records in it. So every table (users, positions, trips and icons) must have at least one record in them or no display.

This is version 1.15. All files except the crosshair have been updated. Someone will need to translate the new variable in the language.php file. The new variable is:

$no_data_text

If someone can provide German, French and Spanish translations that would be great.

I did a drive I frequently do, trackme worked great. However now every time I make the drive it is just adding points over the existing ones - and its very hard to see where I am. Is there any way to clear the points from the KML and start fresh?

You can use different trip names.
By default, the positions are not assigned to any trip, and they go under 'None'
You can delete existing data for positions for a given trip or for positions with no trip assigned. You can also specify a date range.

The KML is just a exported file based on the data that you have in the database and the parameters that you chose. Just generate it again.

It didn't. We need your server to recognize .cab and signal the browser to handle it using application/octet-stream MIME type. What server are you using?

Don't know if this problem has been addressed in some 153 pages, but when I'm in town or on a freeway where I am near a cell tower the program works fine.

When I wander into a "No Service Area" around rural country roads the program stops logging data. Later, when I return to the "Service Area" (cell tower) the program begins logging again.

The KML file to Google shows the stopping point (No Service Area) and the entering point (into the Service Area) along the same route. All of the "No Service Area" is blank until I get near a tower.

Anyone else discover this? :confused:

If you put width as 100% instead of whatever you have in the config file for width it will *Dynamically scale the maps width to the browser window however you have to set a Height in Pixels (px) because it wont do the same for the height or at least in ie 7 for example www.djsupportonline.com/locateme Posibbly because it cant scale 100% because then it would cover the buttons etc...

This should do it. If it doesn´t, make sure the file is actually in use, check owner, permissions, etc.

Additionally, you can check for a file called mime.types and make sure it has this entry:

BTW, there is no triangulation in google maps. it simply puts up a dot roughly where the cell tower is that you are currently on. Also, if you want that functionality, why not just use google maps? Its already there... why take time away from staryon for something that is free and available to everyone already?

Sorry, a little off topic but i thought some people might be interested in program i stumbled, it works very nicely in conjunction with trackme. Navizon is a navigation program that uses cell tower and wifi ap's to navigate, also uses GPS if you're device has it. similar to google maps but the maps load a lot faster for me.

a few awsome things about the program are:
- you can create groups and subscribe to them, then you can view the locations of all your buddies in real time on the map

- They accually pay you to collect wifi ap's and cell tower locations. I've been using it for 3 days and made $20 already.

You can run it along with trackme and earn some points while your taking you trip.

The program and site have a lot of cool features that make traveling and gps tracking/navigation a lot of fun.

Tried it yesterday afternoon in offline mode, seems to work well. I am yet to see where the 'offline' data is stored though.
