Are you sure that you are generating the KML file?
If so what URL you are specifying in Google Earth?

Finally found some time to install a recent version, very nice progress since the first version!

Since I just installd php on a backup win2003 server (using wamp and it works fine with phpbb) thought I would give the server app a go but I'm having problems :
1. install.php returns no errors and database structure created properly as well as config.php, except the google api key
2. delete install.php and database.sql
3. When I try to connect, I get a "Failed to connect to database. Display terminated." with I connect and no data can be uploaded from the PDA.

What's strange is that when I look at the source for the index.php in Firefox page I see the whole config.php file! Probably means index.php is not getting interpreted properly for some reason....

UPDATE - fixed, the config.php file generated by install.php started with <? instead of <?php that's weird as the config.php that comes in the package has it. Oh well ;-)

UPDATE2 - still can't upload a position (eror can't be displayed, optional messages, etc...) or get the icon list, will try to troubleshoot...Tried the register_globals = 1/ php.ini trick , but no go. upload.php from my browser returns a "Result:5" if that matters ?

Must the installation path for trackme show up in the config file ? I've noticed in step 8 "8) Fill in the blanks with the database information used above, name of the folder where you uploaded all of the php files..." but can't see where to specify that in the installer or in config.php?

I've tried numerous GPS apps on my Tilt. The usual Telenav, Google Maps, and Windows Live, but TomTom is by far the best. Super simple to get running on my device. Pretty much drop a cab file on the memory card, then the folder containing the maps, and bam, it's awesome. Haven't tried Google Earth yet, but look forward to testing it out. :)

You could try with something like the folowing (I don't remember all the required parameters at this moment, so I'm not sure if I am missing any)

I made a few modification to the web for my purposes and thought I would post. It might be useful to some of your users. Its not real pretty but functional.

I added 2 points filters:

That's great! thanks a lot. I asked jcleek to add the ability to specify a date range a long time ago, but I think he never had time to do that, so I really appreciate that you could do that.

Do you think you can find a way of displaying a calendar or something similar to select the date range more easily?

What you see in GE is what you have EXPORTED. It can be realtime tracking or old trips. It depends how you have generated the KML file.

I found a javascript calendar on Sourceforge made by Mihai Bazon (http://www.bazon.net/mishoo/) so all credits goto him.

Hello Staryon! Just wanted to update you on the use of TrackMe! I had previously been using it to track my flights around the San Juan Islands, and am now traveling in Argentina. So far, more or less, the program has worked wonderfully! I am able to track my routes all around the country, and it's great for family & friends to see where I am at any given point. That is, assuming there is internet access! I sometimes go 4-6 days without net, so I just dump my track when I get a connection. Wonderful!

I have a question for you, maybe two!

First - when I am traveling like this, I have been using "remote" mode and just been offline till I hit a town with net, then upload positions. Would I be better off doing the "local" mode then updating when I find net? Is 'Local' mode the same as Remote-Offline? Can I store more that one photo for forced update on 'local' mode?

Here's the biggie. I was trying to troubleshoot a problem with a trip that stopped displaying anything at all. So I re-named it. Still does not work on my own server, but shows up ok in google maps and google earth. I have no idea why or what happened. I had stored a bunch of points on the renamed track. Then I restarted my phone, and it defaulted back to the old name (my bad - i forgot to change the name in the Trip Name) Is there ANY way to combine my trips back together so when I export to KML it will do both? I don't know much about SQL so don't really want to try at the DB level...

I'm sorry but I haven't tried that ROM. It's weird that you get an error message saying that SQL Mobile 3.5 is not present when you already installed it...

I hope somebody can give you some information. At this moment, I don't know what else you can try.

In order to run a command, there's have to be a tab that says SQL, where you can enter SQL commands. Once I know the ID for each trip I could give you the command that you need to combine both.

I agree it is hard to sort this out. The track that works is 28, the one that does not display is 27. That's in the ID column. Do you want the 'name' column for these as well?

ID 27 is 'Argentina_2008_YEAH'
and ID 28 is 'Argentina_2008'

I can't give direct access to the DB. I could give you access through my website admin page, if that would help


by the way - the track that does not display was working fine, then after an upload offline positions, it stopped.

I have been messing around with my page all day, maybe I am causing your troubles.

I believe I have fixed the issues with the dates, I also added code to set the Start and End dates to the first and last dates of the a Trip when 'Show Trip' is pressed. The Dates can then be changed and when 'Apply Points Filter' is pressed the data will be requeried.

For the Date range filter to work the drop down for the Points filter has to be set to 'Show for Date Range'.

Nothing has been destroyed. The data is still in the database.

Can you try to export all the positions from trip Argentina_2008 to a KML file?
Once you get that, open that KML file. If you see all your data then I think there has to be a bug in the web viewer.

well... the program was updated to CF3.5 in December. Probably there were sql changes in the database since the last time that you updated your server and those changes were posted in the forum. People who are using their own server know that they need to check if there are database changes when new versions are released. Every time I made a change in the database I posted the necessary scripts in the forum for people using their servers.

To be honest, I don't understand why some people want to have their own servers if they don't have any experience with SQL. As soon as they have a small problem they are screwed up.

That doesn't happen if you use my free server. You only need to update TrackMe and you're done.

It could be a million things. Maybe you never created your server correctly from the first time and that's why you were having those problems.

I don't keep old versions or TrackMe.

What I would do in your case is to export all your data to a SQL file and make a fresh install of your database. Once you have everything running, import that data back using a SQL statement.

And please, don't blame TrackMe for the problems that you are having. If you install CF3.5 and SQL Mobile and your PDA stops working, that has nothing to do with TrackMe.

I am using the Q-mobile 1.2 rom which includes NET CF 3.5, and I install the Sql 3.5 file from the first post before I install TrackMe.

When I run TrackMe the waitcursor is on the screen for approx 30 seconds until a message appears:

"File or assembly name 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=3BE235DF1C8D2AD3', or one of its dependencies, was not found."

What's the problem? I love TrackMe but can't use the new versions???

Staryon - if you look back, I have been using TrackMe from day one. I donated months ago. AND I was not blaming you! I was seeking advice from the software developer - read my original post I had a few questions for you on the differences on REMOTE vs. LOCAL mode, and how to combine two tracks. I am sorry if my posts indicated I was blaming your software. I was blaming the .NET framework, which I knew was not your problem. I was asking for an older version of TrackMe that didn't need the 3.5 .NET, as I thought it was incompatible with some of the software I use. Turns out, in Argentina, net connections, both WiFi and cell, die for no reason. I do appreciate your help, but I don't remember EVER blaming you or your program. I LOVE your program, and have said so EVERY post.

If you want to know what I edited in my post, it was a list of the programs that I thought were struggling with the new .NET framework., but turned out to be a bad cellular connection.

Further - I have updated ALL server files EVERY time there has been an update. And the same goes for TrackMe. I am not an idiot. I have been out of the country and on cell-data plans here that are too prohibitive cost-wise to update. So in one fell swoop, I updated TrackMe, and the NET framework and SQL - because today was the first time I saw them. FYI, even with the network issues resolved, the 3.5 .NET framework DOES cause problems with some of the programs I use. I am trying to update every piece of software in my phone, but it takes a while... I know this is not your fault, and I don't think I ever intoned that.

I am surprised, after trying to help me, that you would turn on me so quickly. I have been championing TrackMe for months, and I was not bullshitting you when I said I would donate again...

I do appreciate the help you gave me. And I would still be delighted if you could clarify for me how the LOCAL mode differs from the REMOTE mode, as I mentioned in my first post. And if I figure out why a bad dataset sent to the server causes the Display program to not display anything, I will share.

I am sure now I have invited a HUGE flame on myself... That's the nature of these forums. So be it.

If your web server allows you to display the contents of a PHP file you have a much bigger problem than the map display not working. I can't help you with that.

Don't confuse Staryon's code withthe server display. The config is for the display only and has nothing to do with you being able to upload positions. Staryon is hosting all of the files but it is two completely seperate efforts, and the onlything they share is MySQL data.

You have to pick a name (or log in for a private server) first. Then you can pick a trip or take the default (latest) trip. The filter is applied against whatever trip you select.

I think it's the ROM you're using...I'm using the same ROM and am getting the same error message.

Thanks for the reply. Here's a brief synopsis of my problem. I had a track going, for about 10 days of a trip. It was correctly displaying on my own server, and on Google Earth, and maps.google.com. For some reason, sometime in the last 3 or 4 days, it stopped displaying on my server's TrackMe Display page, but still correctly shows on Google Earth and maps.google.com. When I try to load the TM-D I get a big rectangle with nothing in it. I can view all other of my 27 tracks with no problem.

I guess that during an "upload offline positions" I had a network hiccup which caused some data to corrupt. I am simply trying to figure out how to tell where the problem is, that causes TrackMe Display to NOT show a track (or map or anything other than the empty frame) while Google earth/maps do correctly display.

As a default, it loads the track which does not display (Argentina_2008) and the next one, Atgentina_2008_YEAH is currently showing a blank base-map, because I tried to combine two tracks into one, but the corruption followed the combining of the two tracks. Staryon was helping me try to combine two tracks because of a renaming problem I had. It worked, but didn't solve the display problem.

I am reading through the KML file to see if I can see what the problem is, but I don't know which data field would, with a corrupt entry, cause the Display to not show anything.

Unfortunately, all the troubleshooting, and updating to the newest TrackMe involved the SQL and .NET updates, and even more unfortunately coincided with a network outage, which made me think all the updates were causing problems with my phone. (The .NET update DOES cause some problems with some aviation programs I have, but I am working on updating them as well...)

At any rate, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your hard work on this project, and for the support!

Local mode stores everything on your PDA and it doesn't use internet connection. Remote stores all the data on a server except when data cannot be uploaded and it will be stored locally temporarily. Both modes are completely independent.

Staryon - the exact error message which I get is as follows: publickey token = 3....not found- and then I push finish and then the error with netfront s coming - does this help you ?

Right now it seems you have to pick the Trip First (I am selecting ANY) then press the show trip button, after the trip is brought up then all the Filters can be applied. If another trip is selected then the filters are cleared.

I believe this is the way jcleek intended this to work. I could be wrong though.

I have a suggestion for you. When I click on "Apply points filter", do you get all the data again from the database? If so, I think you shouldn't have that button there.

sorry but I'm not sure if I understand... I always try to make everything simple. My idea was to have only 1 button for 'Show', instead of having an extra one for 'Apply points filter'. Just select the options that you want... for example, the trip name, if you want to see only pictures and a date range... and click on Show to see the data.

Thanks for the reply. Here's a brief synopsis of my problem. I had a track going, for about 10 days of a trip. It was correctly displaying on my own server, and on Google Earth, and maps.google.com. For some reason, sometime in the last 3 or 4 days, it stopped displaying on my server's TrackMe Display page, but still correctly shows on Google Earth and maps.google.com. When I try to load the TM-D I get a big rectangle with nothing in it. I can view all other of my 27 tracks with no problem.

I guess that during an "upload offline positions" I had a network hiccup which caused some data to corrupt. there's no need for modifying existing data. There are different ways of escaping special characters.

Thanks. Date ranges work fine now. However, with that change that you made I cannot, for example, show only photos for a given date range.

Any chance of changing the interface to the one that I suggested? I think we would get more flexibility and we will get rid of a redundant button.

I am not wanting to take over the development. There is no way I could have written what you have already done, and I am not even sure if I am sticking my code in the most apporpiate places. I needed a certain function so I wrote and then submitted back so other users could use if they chose too, thats the beauty of open source.

My hope is that if what I have written proves to be useful, you will add to your souce after verifying my contrubutions. I am more than willing to help with whatever tasks you assign. I will try to accomplish what staryon has suggested, if you would like.

i startet up with setting up my database on the sql-server (5.0)

Then ftp-ing all the files to my Webspace in an own diretory with 777 permissions and start the install.php. Filling out anything it wants.

But i get an error that says nothing to me:

One thing for you to know, when the Trip is changed, It will lookup the entire trip, pulling the begin and end dates, and summary data. after that the dates can be changed.

I also change the 'Show last location' to 'Live Tracking' in my language file.

I am new to trackme too, but I'll try to help.

It sounds like you already have downloaded the server files according to your previous post, but just in case you can find them here (http://www.luisespinosa.com/bin/trackme/server/list.php).

if the install.php does not work, I would just edit your config.php directly and then upload to your web server. In the config just edit the Database Information, add your google api key.

I tested it and it works fine. The only problem that I've seen is when you click on 'Live Tracking' that returns an error.

Usually you create an account to give applications access to the data. Well much of what I wrote isn't mine. There have been many contributions to the effort, I was just managing the files. Since you are the one making the bulk of the changes now you should manage the files until someone else has something significant to add. Its all you baby!

I have pretty much the same problem, installation went fine (after I added a <?php at the beginning of the config.php file is the install.php was not creating it), but I can't upload data from my device, I suspect it is a path problem as I get a "404" error, but can't figure out if/how the path needs to be set in config.asp ?

What confuses me is the readme instructions, paragraph 8 "name of the folder where you uploaded all of the php files". Can't see where to put that info in config.asp ?

I have tried to reproduce your error but can't, I agree with jcleek that it must be a database issue, username/password. The MySQL errors you get from the webpage are because you have no users in your users table. The reason you have no users is because Trackme app cannot create a user.

I set my trackme (which works fine with other remotes) to point to your site and get the same errors you report, so I don't believe its a problem with the trackme program.

I wonder what will happen if you add your username and password manually to the database.

I don't see a place to put a path in the config.php.

Ah, if you don't have any tables then the install did not go correctly, likely a username/password/rights problem indeed.

I don't know why you are getting that error, but I guess you can edit the database.sql and change `URL` varchar( 512 ) NOT NULL , to `URL` varchar( 255 ) NOT NULL ,

glad you are not crying now, one of your tables does not contain data, using your front end look at the contents of each table to see which one is blank. I would assume its the icons table.

And: Yes the trip table was emty. Just walk in front of the door with the system. Wait 30 seconds...and there will be a trip :-)

Ah mybe you want to kno how i fixed the Database error when trying to import the sql file...

just delete the database (It was SQL Version 4....) and make a new one with Version 5...

So if anybody got the same prob:

Just create a database with SQL-Version 5... and import the sql-file manually. Dont forget to edit the config.php by yourself. Than it works!

The Account information in Tracke me is whatever you want. It creates the account by himself. so for the user it just has effect for the name of the kml-file.

Absolutely great software. It works fine on my TYTN II (Vodafone edition with HTC ROM).
The only thing I wonder a bit after installation: If the VPA is unused he goes off. The only way to repower him is the reset button. The power on button is not working anymore. Any hint / solution ?

Is it possible, when GPS signal returns (like after a tunnel, for example) to make a fixing of the position automatically? Can be reduced dynamically, update time (10 seconds) in function of the speed? 10 seconds, at 160km/h, covering a curved road or railway, are many IMHO.

Is it possible, when GPS signal returns (like after a tunnel, for example) to make a fixing of the position automatically? Can be reduced dynamically, update time (10 seconds) in function of the speed? 10 seconds, at 160km/h, covering a curved road or railway, are many IMHO.

A couple of suggestions...

1. When you select a trip, as soon as is selected it will show that trip, instead of waiting for the Show button to be pressed. Do you think you can disable that?
In some cases you may a have a trip with many positions and you just want to select a date range for that trip, however as soon as the trip is selected it will query the database and you have to wait.

New version available!

Now you can upload offline pictures. TrackMe will extract creation date information from the pictures and it will try to match it with the existing GPS positions. If the time difference is less than X for a certain position it will upload that picture to the server and it will assign it to that position.

I plan to get GPS data from the image as well in a future version...

ok, I understand.
I also have the problem that when I first log in, it takes forever, because it will load the first trip that I have available (which is a long trip), but I am not really interested in showing that trip. That's why I thought that the viewer shouldn't show anything until the user decides what he/she wants to see.

Good news, my server is now up and running thanks to the lastet install and full zip, maybe I was missing a file, oh well ;-)

I have a couple of suggestions for the "forced update" button. It works pretty well as it is, but could it be added to the buttons on the main page, there is still room on the right and it would be easier to use that way.

More importantly could you freeze the GPS position when the button is pushed that way you can memorize a specific spot and then type your text when time permits (useful when driving!).

Also, could you blank out the form once it has been sent that way the user won't have to delete the link for a picture or the previous text.

I realise that there is a log files with all the gps cordianates, is there any way to create the kml files from that? so that i can view the routes in google map?

It looks very good.
Maybe you could show the world map or the TrackMe icon... it's up to you.
By the way, when the map is empty I can see these 2 characters at the bottom //
Maybe you added that for testing or something like that.

The only thing that I would change (it's up to you, it's ok the way as it is right now) is to put everything that has to do with the Search inside a panel, so the Live Tracking button is outside that panel.
Even better, when you are in live tracking, all that panel should not be visible, instead just have a button that says 'Search mode' or something like that.

Attached is an example with the panel. But again, it's great as it is... just make the modifications that you consider.

Hi, i am silly :eek:

I do html-coding for a long time. never did php. Edited the language php not with my html-editor. did it with editor from Windows. And dont thougt about the special characters.. Ohh silly!!!!!

So i did the german translation again. And now it also works with the Characters äöü :-)

In case of that you have addet other languages i only have addet the german translation part of the language.php for you.

I have loocked up that the date time settings on my PDA's are perfect. Then startet Trackme and after a few moments after uploading the first points i took a foto and want Trackme to upload it and bring it to the right position point.

I testet with 2 differend PDA.

On my HTC Tytn i get the error: Unable to get positions
On my BlueAngel i get the error: No Date time found

Both PDA are with WM6. And have no GPS integratet. I do it with an external GPS-Mouse. Uploading pictures with "Force Update know" is working fine.

The KML file is just a subset from the database. If you are interested in a specific trip just export it. That it will create a KML file. You don't really need to keep that KML file, because it can be generated at any time. However, if you want to keep it for some reason, just rename it to something else.

If you get the message 'No date time found' is because the EXIF data doesn't contain a tag named TAG_DATE_TIME or EXIF_TAG_D_T_ORIG. That tag contains the date time information.

If you know how to do this, could you check if your image has a different tag name for the creation date? If not, you can send a picture to me so I can take a look at the EXIF data.

Is the text in the variables $none_text and $trip_any_text used in a query?
When they are translated (and I use them on my own server) I get an mySQL error on lines 603 and 604 in index.php

Well, I been avoiding installing the newer version since I also had to update .Net and SQCE. So, I finally bit the bullet and updated across the board (.Net/SQCE/Web Site).

All seems okay with the upgrade and I am eager to see how the new update off line positions and pictures work. :)

The new version of the web code is GREAT and I like the new changes.

Now to a little problem. It seems I can use the Configuration button, but once I exit out the button does not work again. I have to restart TrackMe to get the configuration button to work again. No big deal...

In the Server files the german translation is not includet, mean it is the old wrong one. I addet the complete language.php here.

On my BlueAngel with WM6 it did not work. Seems that there are no exif data in the pics.
I addet a test picture here also. Maybe you can extract the Date/Time from the picture propertis. Not from the exif-data? So you can use the full function from TrackMe with older PDA's.

On the Web interface:
When setting the config.php to German and Metric it always pops of in english and imperial. So you have to switsh it manually everytime you acces the Trackpage.

The favicon did not work.

- Pictures upload. If not EXIF data found, file properties will be used.
- Pictures upload. When a picture is uploaded using this method, the icon
'Camera' will be used.
- Added icon 'Force update' in the main window
- Force Update form is emptied after uploading a position.
