Hi All,
Beasty and Laurentius latest Rom update:

Hi all the new Core and Buld will be released this Friday originaly in Vanilla only, other build flavours will follow.

The first update to this Rom is Now available at the bottom of this post.


This is not a new or latest build WM6 Rom, this is an improvement/major update to our last release.
There is no VideoCall functionality in this Rom at all. No Outgoing & no incoming VC.
The purpose of this release is to make a stable, reliable WM6 Rom with some good packages and graphics.

Thanks to all the Developers on this forum and others (DarkForces Team & 4WinMobile)

Special thanks to Mamaich, Helmi, Buzz, JWrightMCPs, Ivan, Ranju, Darkforces Team, ThingOnASpring,Julian Munford and so many others for all your help, wonderful contributions to this forum and all the knowledge we have all learnt from you all.

Thanks also to all the Rom users here for your feedback and comments, it's these that help us all progress.


Please note....... We have not fully tested Vanilla and Business Flavours apart from Flashing the Rom.
There may be some invalid shortcuts in the Vanilla Flavour due to the shortcuts being in Beasty tweaks......sorry guys....I'll fix that and re-upload at some point.

Source will be uploaded........Eventually, the Full Flavour Rom does not include the RGU's as it saved 1.5 MB of space( and we needed that space badly)
All other flavours are complete Roms with RGU's included...........ENJOY........

Update now available, Pocket CM removed as Default Contact Manager, but included in Programs\Phone, if you still wish to use it.

Dialer updated to resolve display issues of operator name etc
Keyboard backlight timer upped to 30 secs (Please do not attempt to change or you will loose this 30sec setting)
Notifications fixed, ringtones updated and fixed.
A few tweaks to Pocket IE, Cache, Cookies and History set to SD Card and Cache size limit increased,
Other updates I forget............it's too late in the evening.............

I'm not a big fan of ROMs with lots of additions/changes from default, so it's great that you are offering a number of flavours.

Just a minor request - for the icons for folders, e.g. games, would it be possible to include the icon sat on top of a folder so we haven't lost the fact that it's a folder?

I must admit, I prefer your Vista bootsplash, rather than the "HTC" one - the writing across the middle is what puts me off, I think.

I'm glad you've gone down the route you have though. I think the latest ROMs built on different cores have had some quirks and instability problems, and it will be great to have a ROM where you guys have worked on the bugs and stability side of things.

Best features are icons of running programs working and looking like those in Win XP and full hardware button operation. There are much more features like launcher, skins, backlight/volum regulation ect.

I believe some of us would like to install mamiware Videocall.cab (in attached) and have the buggy VC out in our Universal ;)

Everything that is in has been tested and everything is running perfectly..........so far as I have been able to see with the testing we have done so far.

\extended_ROM\show_battery doesn't exist message

Even after a usage of UNI_ext_rom_unlock.exe

The problem is the files that you have in your extended rom.

Extended rom is used by Operators to house the cab files for their customisations. These customisations are installed on first boot after a flash by an autoconfig file.

I would advise you to flash a blank extended rom or unlock and unhide, then delete all the files in it..........ASSUMING YOU DO NOT NEED THEM.

Agreed. Less is more - lose the writing across the screen and perhaps change the colour of the lines from pink to blue.

If you can - replace the Universal with the black O2 Exec version - just so cool with those blue lit keys.

I do have one thing to ask is there anyway to increase the speaker volume? When I am not using the Bluetooth headset and I accept calls and turn the speaker on I can barely make out the words.

You can add your own themes.

Although there are a few builtin to choose from.

I haven't applied a theme by default, all I did was change the default colours.

No stats I'm afraid, I only created the others to please as many as possible, the main focus and testing has been on the FF version.

As you have not provided a radio nbf file inside your Full Flavour.rar file, I'd like to ask you whether the radio file contained in your previously released BSTYL26_WM6PRO_Bussiness_VCupdate_1a_G4.rar file, which I still happen to have in my lappy, is 1.17.00 or not, because I'm presenly using radio 1.15.00 with latest Jason's ROM, and couldn't explicitly find v1.17.00 around.

Radio stack is not Rom specific sir, it is entirely up to you, some work better than others depending on location and operator.

Personally I'll be going back to 1.18.

Position of text is a slight problem yes, but the main focus was on the functionality and making sure everything worked as it should.

And yes, the amount of work that went into this Rom was huge.
I know all the graphics are not "Perfect" or to everyones taste, but it's something different than the usual Roms we all pump out.

No, no, no! No source for me, I don't want to see what this looks like from the inside! Sorry, but I'm "allergic" to code, or the other way around, but when I last tried coding something, it ended up in a full reinstall of my PC :S

But I would be interested if the buttons in the comm manager could be swapped around, like swapping BT with Flight mode, just to keep it ordered.

As for memory, I'm stable with 25megs, nothing else running. Though this is bound to go down pretty soon as I install Spb Weather, Insight, etc...:D

As for the last ROM, it looks better, handles better so far, more stable so far, I don't know what else...:o All over better.

I have noticed that after restoring PIM Data, for example PPCPimbackup
that the device requires a Soft Reset, haven't bottomed this out yet, but my G4 was very unresponsive after a PIM Data restore untill SR, everything fine for 1 week and counting since then.

If not can you re-flash and test again please and report your findings back to us.

Neither Laurentius nor I have found any issues with using IE yet.

* Older version of Performance tool is used (without the reset option on OS hang)
* Icons look choppy in programs menu (no real problem)
* Pbar 1.5 does not display properly on 128Dpi VGA
* Storage Card is not recognized with standard SD mode (4GB SD Platinum)

Can you use Dutty's explorer, browse to a wav file and right click, choose open with and you can browse to the program you wish to use to open it. Just tested on mine and WMP is playing WAVs fine.

That's the problem, I did switch it with that....

Enhanced mode works, but.... folder/file corruption
Standard mode does not show Storage Card in File Explorer.....

In the latest JC's rom it does work @ standard mode

Voip looks cool, now I just need to find a good provider who doesn't charge for calls. Fring is like that, but after I installed fring on my phone, it went completely haywire, so I'm a bit antsy about giving it another go...

You can just disconnect it, I think...It won't brick the phone, you can reset it back into bootloader, and try again.
You have to do so many things wrong to brick the phone, by the time you manage to, you'll probably succeed flashing it a couple of times...:D

Reset your device.

Enter BootLoader mode by holding, backlight and power buttons in whilst pressing the reset button with the stylus.

Connect back to your pc with usb cable and start the flash again.

Open word or excel etc, and right click on the file you wish to print.
I haven't tested it, if you can and feedback that would be great, I don't have the facility to test this.

1m 51,47s from pressing the reset button to full functionality, after typing in the PIN rather clumsily, closing an error message relating to Spb GPRS Monitor, and my owner info, which I accidentally clicked...:D
for so much clumsiness, rather fast still. The last rom used to be up and running in more than 2min...

An issue so far: telephone call timer font does not appear fully, and appears in weird position. (a little upper-left from the screen centre, instead of being on the far right side of the screen.)

Also experimenting with the memory leak issue.

The phone won't find the SD card if I set it to standard (non-SDHC). I'm using 2GD Kingston SD Card.

If I click 'messaging' on the desktop, the tap highlight would always stay there, no matter what. I also found this in your previous v3 rom.

Will post back later.

LOL...I've volunteered for testing here a couple of times, but never got around to actual testing:D

I used to have a Nokia headset, but I don't know where the charger for it is. I have the terminal adaptor, but not the charger it's for, lol:D:S

Also, I've noticed that connecting via ActiveSync overrides WLAN, which is perfectly okay, but WLAN is not reenabled afterwards, and after unplugging, has to be turned back on by hand...

TCPMP with FlashPlugin for youtube will be done for the extended Rom, I use it too, just a question of time to get it done, tested and released. Hopefully next week some time.

Confused on the SD issue now........... You did Soft Reset are changing the SD Mode?
Backgrounds will not change in RealVGA 128DPi and 96 DPi as the themes will only be for 196DPi, probably the same for the Icons. I was really short on space so only the basics are in the Rom to support the RealVGA Modes.

One question: There is NO radio file included so the radio stays at 1.18 (from V3 of your last ROM). I encouter problem with this one...if I make phone calls not all my scentences comes over well to the other party?

Was this a problem of the "Old" V3 rom or is it the RADIO 1.18 and should I just use 1.15 with this ROM??

One question: There is NO radio file included so the radio stays at 1.18 (from V3 of your last ROM). I encouter problem with this one...if I make phone calls not all my scentences comes over well to the other party?

Was this a problem of the "Old" V3 rom or is it the RADIO 1.18 and should I just use 1.15 with this ROM??

Hi Radio is entirely up to your own preference, some work better than others, it just depends on your location and operator.

Basically.............use whichever works best for you.

Have you tried activating "Automatic Gain Control" in settings for the mic?
This may help improve the quality of what your callers hear.

Smart dialing does not seem to work (i.e., start typing letter at the desktop and the contact list does not show up). However, I get the feeling that it works "behind" the telephone skin, since I sometimes see the arrow button by the bottom of the screen in the realvga mode.

Can't use keyboard to dial a number in phone mode. Only have to tap the screen.

Both the telephone number and call timers during the call, whilst not showing the keypad, do not display properly.

Only the on screen dialer pad will function in portrait mode, you can use this as letters by touching the numbers on the phonepad to dial by name.

To use the keyboard, switch to landscape mode with the device open and this should work.

Your default theme is really gorgeus! But I have detected serious issues here, which are about to make me return to Jason's latest ROM very soon:

1. My Exec is connected to my laptop (running WinXP) for hours now, and Activesync simply is stuck at the calendar sync phase. No error message is issued, but no passing to the next sync item either. I always synchonize all my calendar entries (~750);

2. I have a free version of SBP GPRS Monitor which came along with my Exec when I first bought it. It simply refuses to intall here. At the beginning of the installation process it says I must update the ROM to the required version. I recall experiencing this same problem in a previous ROM by kdskamal I flashed some time ago, which, by the way, also had that Windows grassy boot screen;

3. As with many WM6 ROMs released so far, SIP calls can be heard by one party only. When such error occurs, I use to install Custel's Voip cab to have it fixed. I'm quite sure it would work here too, but I'm not willing to test it now, because I must have my Exec fully functional by tomorrow morning;

4. PocketCM refuses to make calls to my SIP contacts (I have some of my contacts with something like "sip:name@sipprovider.com" stored as one of the entries at the contacts database), and I don't know how to disable PocketCM and have the normal contacts application, which has always worked for such a feature, started instead;

5. Both the D-pad and the keyboard's up&down keys simply skip calendar, tasks and messaging today plugins. I have already seen such an error before too, but I coudn't remember the solution. I have, in fact, first detected this problem on this ROM in the Wireless Today Plugin, but this one I have fixed by creating registry key "Redirect" in "HKLM\ControlPanel\WrlsMgr" and pointing it to "CommManager.exe".

Please, take a look at these, to me, blocking errors.

Many thanks for the work you have done. Desparetly waiting for a kitchen!

The annoing thing which still does not work properly for me is A2DP. My handphones is Nokia BH-501. The simptoms are as usual - music plays for a second, then disappears for a few seconds, then plays again, then disappears, and so on.

If it helps in diagnosing the problem - the hadphos work fine with Cambridge BT stack - no sound distortion. Also I recall that the original O2 ROM (WM5) used to give a good soung from time to time. I mean, I had to reboot and pair the headpones few times before it started working. Reboots do not help with all WM6 ROMs.

I still hope MS BT stack will be fixed one day... :)

Is it only me or is backlight suppose to bring up backlight setup when pressed? Can this fix example from registry that pressing backlight button it just does light backlight?

SDdaemon is not part of our flash............. I'm guessing you didnt't clear you data after the flash. Pleaseread the included instructions carefully as I believe you missed out the step where you hold the two soft keys and press the reset button and then select 0, this must be done at the end of the flashing process.

The battery and memory meters on the top are in the StartUp folder, you'll see them, and that thing in the bottom is the pBar, but where it is, I don't remember. But I know I managed to remove it after about five minutes.

Sorry B&L, but those things just had to: I use Battsleep to monitor the batery and the memory, and those bars spoke to me in russian. And the pBar...I might give it another go some time, but now, it didn't look good there;)

Well, i'm fasninated with this rom, its realy a super rom.
I instaled't yesterday when it came out, and all is working great.
Except for one this that is bothering me for the last 2 roms i'v tryd.
The camera is working realy nice at first time use, but then I switch to store pictures in my storage card, and after that the camera is brocken, full of interferences and always a message saying cache error and the device reboots.
I change all settings to the original state, but no go, the camera stays brocken.
Please can you guys help me.

Having played around with this ROM for a few hours I have to say that is very hard to locate items within the new style icons on the folders. Perhaps they should look like folders in the next release?

Sounds and Notifications - there does not seem to be an event for an SMS message. Does with work off the MMS option now?

The ROM is fast and stable indeed and no more GSM Radio crash error. But the ROM did make the keyboard pretty useless. Sometimes the Keyboard just stops responding and the only keys that work will be the start key (the one with the windows icon on it). I did not have any problem sync it to VISTA or XP.
1. The smart dialer doesn’t show numbers when you use 128 DPI or 96DPI in Real VGA.
2. Sometimes the keyboard just stops responding.
3. Like in the previous version the Today screen skips most of the things including inbox. The only way is to tap on those icons. That does suck doesn’t it?
But even with these small issues I am going to stick to this one because at least it is stable and fast. There is something I am confused about when I was using the “Thingonaspring” Rom and I use to connect to the laptop via Bluetooth my batter use to last al most like 9 hours but with this Rom it goes down to 40% in less than 3 hours.
Thank you for the ROM and no matter what anyone says your Rom does show all the hard work you put in.

in Portrait, call-timer is showing OK, but no information of who calls/phone number.

I like the icon aproch to the folders, but there are some apps double in diferent places like the storage settings...

I initially had this problem and no matter what I tried the keyboard light would not come on - I can't remember what I did but I unticked something somewhere and then ticked it again and it works all the time now. Sorry to be vague.

Dear Beast and everyone,

I have disabled the dialler skin [by HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin\Enabled = 0], and I could now search for contacts simply by typing names from the desktop. Call timer and dialled number during call in landscape display correctly, too! However, the graphic for the 'back' button in the dialler is missing (see attached & the same happens in 192 dpi). I guess I would need the button's graphic file to be put in the \Windows\ directory ? Could anyone post it please if this is the case?

Also, I usually use Bluetooth File Sharing to transfer files between my Mac (Powerbook G4 OS 10.3.9). However, this function simply does not work with this latest rom. My apple cannot see any file in the "shared" folder.
(I choose "browse device" from the bluetooth menu on my powerbook desktop, then select the Universal from the popup window)

for now just use the regedit app to disable the skin.

and doubleclick ENABLED and change the value to 0.

Just one thing, in the overclocking utility it says it may harm your uni. Is this true? or is it scare mongering.

would you consider putting the slower option on by default.

In an earilier post i mentioned that when using the task manager to close applications you had to open it up each time to close the next app by using the red cross next to it when on the today/front screen, i should of said it was Pbar not task manger (pbar has loads to play with), it is not really a problem just something that nagged me.

I have download the new ROM yesterday, u mean now the first page have been updated with revised after you have modified the "SOUND & NOTIFICATION"?

I could find notification for New message & Reminder. How to modify the registry to add these 2 modification.

This is the best rom i've ever had - so fast!

Things i dont like are:
the icons on the pbar thing and the ones in the programs menu there really horrible i'm afraid.
the different folders in the programs section
lack or TCMP, VC & keyboard ctrl / alt + alt tab
The memory bar never gets past a 3rd for me - it would be nice if you could set your own level so if you had say 20mb free it would be full it's depressing it never gets out of yellow. :P
No settings for 3 uk in the startup setup.

Things I like:
The black theme
Mastermind - i love that game
the SPEED - it's really nippy.
USB HHD
The new menu.

Things left for me to test - Wifi, having a bit of trouble with that I type in the key then it just brings up the list of networks avaiable minus the one i just setup? :s

A2DP - I've never really had this working well on the exec :'(

I am having prob with my storage card. If I use
* Enhanced Mode
cd card works but it dissapears when the device shuts down. Only was to ReEnable the CD card is to take it out and in again
*standard Mode
No CD card at all

Is there any solution to this?. It's kind of a showstopper for me cause if I have my emails on the cd card and then recieve new one, the phone hangs cause there is no sd card when it just "woke" up.

Stupid question.
In the first page I see:

Vanilla Flavour (RGUs included)
Business Flavour (RGUs included)
Full Flavour (RGUs not included)Now question is:
The first and second are different only for the installed apps, isn't it?!

And the third does not have the source for who want create their own ROM, but is it Vanilla or Business?!

Now I have WM6 6 PRO with 1.18 radio, which is slower in my case, do you know from what ROM I can get a 1.15 radio?

And finally, I red all the posts till now, and there are some bugs to solve, but all this problem are relatad to which ROM version? Business, Vanilla or Full?!

That's the problem, I did switch it with that....

Enhanced mode works, but.... folder/file corruption
Standard mode does not show Storage Card in File Explorer.....

In the latest JC's rom it does work @ standard mode

I am getting the same thing. Enhanced mode works, but loses the card after sleep. When I switch to standard mode, the phone does not see the storage card at all. When I tried Jason's rom, the storage card worked in standard mode. This is really a big problem!

for now just use the regedit app to disable the skin.
HKLM\SECURITY\PHONE\SKIN\
and doubleclick ENABLED and change the value to 0.
soft reset your device and it should be fine.

i do this but i thean some diferent skin! not the skin of you :D

Are you sure that you cleared storage after flashing the rom?

All apps should be working fine, no one else has reported this issue.
Also after configuring your device and restoring contacts, you should soft reset the device.

I have donwloaded th Business version.

It apperas I ill have the issue at the customization phase of "Extended_ROM\Show_battery " doesn't exist.
It is at around 25% of the customization phase ( .CAB installation)

May any of you give me some advice.

What could be done to get rid of this problem?

I don't remember what these apps were.

But simply no, you don't need them.

Use your stylus to soft reset as soon as the installs start.

Hi thanx for your great rom, it's very fast and stable, I don't mind the small bugs in this rom, I can't remember testing a rom without bugs, this one is by far the best:)
one thing keeps irritating me in wm though, it's the stupid calculator :P
I don't think there is any program that looks worse, any skins for calculator?

o and since yesterday I have one problem, I noticed it a few hours after flashing this rom, my touchpad allignment is failing, I need to reallign it in screens every few minutes otherwise it doesn't work propperly.. In the upper part of the screen I need to touch it lower than I should.. could this be a rom problem or is my touchpad f*cked up?

WHY? - this is very annoying to me:

1.-(enable password/pin lock) ..start a program, for example the file explorer.
2.-press powerbutton to make PPC sleep, (or let it time out and sleep)
3.-press powerbutton/start PPC

now the program is hidden, and today redraws.

EDIT: (it's not related to this ROM only)
..searched and found a thread about it, nobody has a solulution ?

Beasty and Laurentius latest Rom update:

This is not a new or latest build WM6 Rom, this is an improvement/major update to our last release.
There is no VideoCall functionality in this Rom at all. No Outgoing & no incoming VC.
The purpose of this release is to make a stable, reliable WM6 Rom with some good packages and graphics.

Thanks to all the Developers on this forum and others (DarkForces Team & 4WinMobile)

No it does not.

However, wait for the weekend and an update for full flavour without pocket cm as default, HTC Taskmanager back in PBar removed. Icons removed from programs group , today screen fixed, icons removed from programs group, camera buffer issue fixed, notifications fixed.

So may posters ask you to put this or that in the ROM and leave other things out.
The only thing everyone should really be interested in, is a stable ROM.

I've found a WMP bug. It can't play WAV files. I've tried associating a WAV file with WMP but it still can't play it.

I think that the final available storage wouldn't be the same because the extra apps wouldn't come installed.
