Upgrading an Apache using Linux

Hello,
I would like to know if there are any mechanisms known by anyone here to upgrade the firmware of an Apache using Linux. I believe I have the correct image file but definetly not the know-how.

I use a vmware windows XP image... I know, icky, but it does work fine...
